Waited 13 min and no one came to our table. We left.
My husband and I came in to the Tuscan Market for the first time yesterday evening. We waited 3-4 min for the hostess. When she arrived she apologized for the wait which was nice. My husband asked that we have a table away from the doors to the outside. She said “Ok” and put us at the table closest to the door. My husband and I looked at each other and he spoke up. She said she was sorry and then scanned the open tables. She said she did not think we should sit in the area that’s enclosed in plastic (I guess maybe that’s usually outdoor dining?) because there is an issue with it and wind blows in. There were more than a few other tables that would have been in a warmer area but we just wanted to eat so I kept my coat on and sat at the original table. We waited for 13 minutes. Not a single waitstaff came over, not a single one walking by even looked at us. I used to wait tables and if myself or other waitstaff had seen people waiting that long we would have acknowledged the customers and said “has anyone come over to take your order?” The last straw was when I saw a couple who came in after us, get waited on. We hot up, handed our menus back to the hostess and left. The arrogance and lack of service were such a put off. I will never go there again. I wonder how much money the owner loses due to people leaving like we did.

Adrianna was fantastic. This reminded me of amazing European trips with an open market meal. She was wonderful, a great guide to amazing food and gave incredible service. Please don't miss out on an incredible meal in an incredible place.
Be the first to ReplySuch a disappointment.
Husband and I stopped in to eat at the bar. The menu looked good. We received a friendly greeting. Ordered my first drink, a pear old fashioned. It can but didn’t really impress me at the time. The ice was sort of melted and the drink wasn’t that cold. Ordered our dinner. I had chicken picatta and asked to substitute fresh Angel hair pasta instead of the standard linguine. The dish was very salty and the pasta was clumpy and undercooked. I didn’t bother to complain because it was passable and I was hungry. Ordered my second drink, an espresso martini. I watched the bartender “mix” the drink. She seriously over poured the first ingredient, like a 7 count and then proceeded to add the other ingredients in strange proportions. She barely shook it and when she tried pouring it in the glass it seriously overflowed. The color of the drink was a murky grey. After the first two sips I was done. She came back and asked if I liked it and when I said no, she offered to make me something else. I asked for a Negroni. Simple drink to make, 3 ingredients equal parts. The drink I got was overly sweet, yet strong. Overall the server was nice but when you are paying $15 per drink I expect them to taste like they are supposed to. I was really disappointed that they could not come through in staple items in their menu. Won’t be going back any time soon.

So, tonight me my husband, my daughter, her husband, and my 3 week old grandson visited Tuscan market. They were on a usual 30-40 minute wait. When I went to put in our name Ryan(who I later found out was a manager) was one of the most accommodating, personable, kind thoughtful people I’ve come in contact with in a long time. I know people Say this all the time, but I was a server/key/bartender for many years and it is NOT easy. Ryan realized we had a baby and worked diligently to get us taken care of. I can’t explain how important that is. I’m sure Ryan deals with so many people on a daily basis and does it with a smile on his face. The food was great as well. Thank you so much for having such quality employees like Ryan!! We will be back ASAP! Thanks again, Kate Morrison

First time dining at Tuscan Market eatery. Beautiful decor. Friendly staff and delicious meals. We enjoyed our dinner very much. I had chicken parm and hubby had bolognese. We highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyTerrible Trattoria
We decided to sit at the new indoor bar for a drink and pizza after doing a class at the Trattoria. We had not eaten at Tuscan Market since pre-COVID and had a very disappointing visit then, so decided to give it another try since we were right there. Things have not changed. The server was nice enough, but did not keep up with cleaning off the bar. The Margarita pizza was absolutely terrible. Crust was like fried dough, hardly any sauce, and unmelted cheese. The pizza was lukewarm at best. We had ordered roasted red peppers and portobello mushrooms (only type offered) for toppings. There were probably 4 pieces of mushrooms, and could hardly find the peppers. We had once piece each and that was it. We expressed our displeasure with the pizza to two of the servers. They said they were sorry and walked away. They did not get a manager to talk to us, not that there was one around that we could tell. Finally, the (minimal) toppings were add-ons totaling $5.00! The server should have told us that he was going to find a manager to discuss at least comping us for the toppings. We left without really eating anything and went to another place in town and had a lovely dinner. (Where, by the way, after telling the server there about our awful experience, she related that she hears at least once a week from folks on how bad the Trattoria is) So, we paid for a "dinner" at the Trattoria that we could not eat. Yes, we should have asked to speak to a manager but that most likely wouldn't have made any difference. Just don't understand why people keep going there. Anyone we talk to say how terrible it is, so lesson learned. We will certainly not go back, and will be spreading the word on this absolutely terrible experience.
Be the first to ReplyThird time was not a charm
Our recent visit here was not a good one. We were outside in the enclosed patio area, which is nice - but is it loud, from music and patron conversations. The serving was slow, I am not completely blaming the server, but it was 15 minutes for our drinks to arrive, about 25 minutes for our food and one dish was barely warm. We were never offered a dessert or coffee. On the plus side, our food was delicious, but portion size was small.
Be the first to ReplyStrike out on the third time!
This was my third time to the Market-I usually eat at the Kitchen down the road. The food needs help. The Pollo Panini was so hard to bite into as well as the NY Italian Grinder Panini. The food took a very long time to get. The server never checked on us. We had to call the server over to get the check. The music is on so loud for lunch time. The tables are crammed into the restaurant which makes it hard to get in and out. The Manager should make rounds to get feedback from customers. The hostess walks around but there are tables to clean which she doesn't do. The bathroom was a mess. Very disappointed. I will return to the beer garden but this is my last time at the Market.
Be the first to ReplyGreat location and food
Lunch was relaxing on a hot spring day. Sitting outside under ceiling fans. The menu has just enough to choose from. You must try the hummus and homemade pita! Amazing. Service was friendly but slow. We didn’t mind. A must try.
Be the first to ReplyTERRIBLE
We went to the restaurant (Tuscan Market place) today for breakfast. the server was extremely good. The food however was not so good. The sausage was disguised as a hockey puck, the eggs were cold and the potatoes were burnt. My 10 yr old grandson is a much better cook. After leaving the Market place we ran into a couple that had just left there as well and said that their's was also bad and they complained and got the breakfast compted. This a one and done never again.
Be the first to ReplyAs always it NEVER disappoints
As always the Tuscan Table Market Place never disappoints. The service is phenomenal and the food and drinks are as always tremendous. I would highly recommend a visit as this is the premier Italian destination in New England!!
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing, Disappointing and more Disappointing
We really wanted to like this place. Atmosphere is nice and all the take out food looks great but... We asked to sit outside at one of the fire pits. The hostess points to one of them and say go sit there and I'll send a server. The fire pit was not on or not working, it is extremely loud outside, could not carry on a conversation. After 10 mins, no server. I went inside and asked the hostess if we could eat inside. Hostess asks us to come inside and stand by the register while they clear a table. We are seated at a table and after another 10 mins, no server. We ask a passing server to send someone over. The hostess comes shortly and brings water and says server will be with us shortly they are very busy. Another 5 mins and finally a server. We order drinks. My wife and I got Rockingham Boulevards, their take on a Boulevardier. Server says they serve them on the rocks and I ask for mine Straight UP. Drink was served at room temp and came in a rocks glass. My experience with this drink is it's served chilled in a Manhattan glass. We asked for bread, never received any bread. We ordered apps: Gnocco which was described on the menu as fried dough with prosciutto, olive oil and fig jam. The prosciutto was dried out and there was no olive oil or fig jam, just dried figs. The meatballs were horrible. They were cold, sauce was cold and center was cold. They were very firm and appeared to be more bread than meat. The fried brussel sprouts were very good, crispy and spicy. After another long wait, we decided to leave without ordering dinner. We were charged full price, no apologies.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced and Disappointed
New area opened at the old Horse Track (which we miss) with a Tuscan open market at the center. Beautiful day when we visited in the 70's. The outside ambiance was nice, but the food and service was not good and quite disappointing. In fact the entire area going up has higher priced shops not common for the Salem, NH area. We started with an appetizer and were shocked at the amount given for the price. Not even worth it for 3 people. We also received our appetizer before our drinks! I had a special drink that was presented in a shot glass for 18 dollars, it wasn't worth it. Then our meals were delayed because the waitress dropped them and NO compensation on the check for her clumsiness and our 2hr wait. Food was sub par. My son who is training for culinary career was shocked at how lousy his steak tasted and was cooked. He asked for medium and it came out well done. My chicken dish had two small pieces flooded with everything to hide the small pieces and it really had no taste. My wife was the smart one who got a salad and thankfully they didn't screw that up. Skipped desert for obvious reasons. Its a nice area with so much potential but more geared toured tourist. A new Marriot Hotel is going up next to this establishment. We will skip it next time, just out of our League.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent luncheon experience
A friend and I met for lunch. This was our first visit at the new location. We sat in the heated patio which is an enclosed room with heaters. The tables were spaced apart. We were very comfortable. My friend ordered Eggs Benedict and I ordered a grilled chicken panini. We were both happy with our food. Our waitress was great. She said breakfast is currently served til 3 PM but she was told that soon it will only be served til 11 AM. We ordered some sweets to eat later at home. The bakery has a great selection of pastries and gelato. The cannoli was delicious
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed
First time here and as we walked into the market we were impressed until we saw the ridiculously high prices. We decided to have lunch and were very disappointed by the small menu choices for lunch options. The menu also had breakfast stuff on it too. Hubby had bologonese which was bland and I had penne pomodoro which was also bland but the meatball was tasty...problem with that is that the meatball was not hot-just warm. Pasta was just as described by another reviewer...sticky. Before we left we wanted to see if they sold the meatballs...yup...$2.99 each! And they weren't huge...average size.
Be the first to ReplyFood was marginal....not worth the price
1st time visit to the Tuscan Market Trattoria. Stopped fo lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. The outside seating only had 2 waitresses who were quite busy. I had their pnna pasta with meatball. What I got was a sticky, undercooked bowtie style pasta in a tasteless tomato sauce. Service was slow so I did not send it back. the meatball was good the pasta bordered on garbage!! I noticed other patron s were ordering the pizza. I doubt I'll return. My wife salad was fine but she didn't like the service.
Be the first to ReplyStaff problems are evident
A turf war was brewing between one hostess and the entire wait staff. The hostess made sure everyone knew it was the servers' job to bus tables. I was seated at the only empty table - only empty because the eight around me were full of plates, glasses, bowls, silverware, and used cloth napkins. This is the likely reason why the swarm of flies were being swatted by other guests. A second hostess arrived to work, and realized her job would be much easier if she could sit patrons at tables, and stepped into a role that wasn't hers.....only to have the first hostess inform her of the mistake. It took 50 minutes to clear many of the tables. It was obvious their primary concern was not to interrupt my meal - tables on each side remained covered in crumbs from diners earlier that day. The pace of service remains extremely relaxed, just the same as their prior location. But take your time and it will feel like a more reasonable hourly rate. Food was surprising, if not underwhelming; who knew pomodoro sauce would have strawberries in it? Whoever is covering Table 73, it's time to clean it up!
Be the first to ReplyTERRIBLE Service, OK Food - Not Worth It!
From the moment we entered the market we were treated poorly. A young hostess glared at us when we asked for a table that could accommodate my mom's motorized wheelchair. After being seated, our waitress was friendly but it took FOREVER to get our food and drinks. Service was very inconsistent, as there were other tables that also seemed to struggle with slow service while another nearby table who was seated after us received their food before my husband even got his beer. When our food finally arrived after an hour, it was lukewarm and had clearly been sitting out for a while. My dad asked for a refill of his iced tea, and the waitress brought him an iced coffee. 1 star for food/drink/service. 1 extra star for the live music, which was nice.
Be the first to ReplyTuscan Market Trattoria Bustling and Confusing
The Tuscan Market Trattoria is located in the new MASSIVE Tuscan Village which used to be a dog racetrack. The size of the shopping area is huge and most of the stores are not open but the Tuscan Market is. We stopped inside and expected to find (as is the case in all Tuscan Markets) ridiculously high prices and ok food. We were not disappointed We bought a piece of pizza for around 5.00 which was just okay. The crust was not crispy and it was very doughy. If it had been cooked a little more it might have been good the cheese distribution was sparse. This was a huge disappointment because I loved the pizza at the Tuscan Market in Portsmouth, NH. The case with the baked goods looked as if it were promising but upon inspection the Italian Pastry was inter-dispersed with lots of non- Italian offerings like chocolate chip cookies. This in my opinion is a huge turn off. Authentic Italian bakeries do not have non Italian desserts so it wrecks the ambiance and feel for which I assumed the bakery was trying to project. This trattoria is supposed to be a grocery store too, filled with "Italian" pastas, sauces and candies. Are they trying to mimic the stores in the North End? I don't know. There is a huge (more than 24 ft) cooler which sells a variety of store made pastas, sauces and par cooked prepared foods. There is also a prepared open cooler chest (24ft+) with lots of self-service, prepared food entrees and sides. It was pretty much empty except a couple of rows. I purchased a couple of containers of mac and cheese which looked good but were totally tasteless covered in the most watery cheese sauce I have ever eaten! The prepared foods look good and as prices go if you lived in one of the nearby apartments and needed a quick meal for one, you might be tempted (or maybe not ,because the selections at nearby Market Basket are just as good and half the price). The grocery sections sell many Italian items which can be found in conventional grocery stores (dare I say even Walmart) at prices that rival the mark-up at Disney World. For example, Piasana (sp?) red sauce over 5.00+ a jar ; I found same size jar in a two pack at Costco for 4.99!!! The meat case is impressive as is the meat room with its glass window complete with salami and tomahawk steaks which are aging; perhaps a modern homage to the shops in the North End of Boston. However, they should have a bank loan section available before you approach it should you wish to purchase. While it is large and filled I am not sure that the quality is any better than the Market Basket which is literally spitting distance away and a part of the village. Also, the check out area is strange. IF you purchase baked goods or grocery items there is a register in the front. Your bakery purchase is not really marked and a lone cashier, who must have psychic ability , rings them up. As someone else said, the confusion and disorganization does not help make the experience enjoyable. They offer cooking classes but they are listed on an a-frame board outside. Should you ask an employee for information," You need to go into the app " and blah, blah, blah to find out the information...too much work for me. The classroom appears well appointed but, it looks, as in the case of Stonewall Kitchen, you watch and then eat what has been prepared. Again, prices are hugely inflated. Hard to tell because I did not go into the app. The restaurant portion of the place is confusing too. I could not tell if you were supposed to take your take out food and sit at the tables or if that were the "trattoria" part. There were no signs and I only realized it was the restaurant when I saw someone with a menu in hand. Could not figure out where to even go to be seated and it looked as if wait staff had to carry the food through the throngs of market customers to serve it. I just kept thinking of the sneeze factor as they walked by. As a person who worked in retail for a number of years, I felt like walking in and reorganizing some of the! problems which were just on the surface. For example, William Sonoma, while not part of Tuscan Market, is adjacent to it and you walk from one to the other with only the cooking classroom in between. Here too there is a problem; the bathroom entrance from TM is down a hallway, the bathroom from WS is down a parallel hallway. What you do not realize is that they are leading to the same bathrooms so there is a huge line at TM and then nothing at WS. You walk into the restrooms at WS and innocently cut the line at TM which to say the least, ticks off the TM patrons! They should put up a partition in between or make one entrance because line cutting, no matter how innocent, is never tolerated well especially if you need to use the facilities. I realize, that this whole shopping, lifestyle area but, this place seems more suited for a tourist destination. Having grown up shopping in the North End of Boston, with my grandmother, I get the vibe they are attempting to represent but, it is just like they took all the little shops and dumped them into one with no clear signage or direction. It felt like they just kept adding and adding with no clear notion of the outcome, much like too many accessories. As Coco Chanel said, 'look in the mirror and take of one accessory before you leave', would be good advice for Tuscan Market too. Honestly, I wanted to love this place. It was vaguely nostalgic and after reading the bio of the developer of the Tuscan Kitchen and Village ,Joe Faro ( seems like a really nice guy, who used to own Joseph's Sauces sold to Nestle and shared the profits with his employees to the point that some could retire at an obscenely early age) and his philanthropic endeavors, I felt badly that it just did not hit the mark.
