I've been to Ivory Pearl 5 or 6 times prior to their menu change and was always impressed with the taste of their food. I recently went since the menu change and was disappointed to see that some of my favorite items are gone and the entire menu has been revised. Every dish (besides oysters) was disappointing and lacked flavor. Wishing for the old menu back as it was consistent and delicious. Seems they're pushing for more upscale offerings and not delivering the same quality. Will not be returning unless the menu changes back to what it was.

i was excited to try their new menu and it does not disappoint! the clouds and caviar are basically the tots in black tie. the salmon is a nice touch to balance out the "cloud". king crab tortellini is good, but just a LITTLE dry. definitely get some roe in each bite. the saltiness elevates the experience. legs and eggs was a pleasant surprise. can always use more caviar, but the smokiness on the chicken was unexpected and highly enjoyed. if you don't like the smell of new orleans in a sunday you won't like this dish. according to the owner the smokiness can be hit or miss for guests. it was out the park for us. a fried chicken that tastes like a backyard bbq, can i have another please? rounding out the meal was the shrimp and sausage gnocchi - a winner. my only suggestion is add some ciabatta so we can sop up the goodness of this broth. everything about this dish is five stars. dessert was a deconstructed banana bread which we enjoyed.as always, service was top tier, and the playlist was the cherry on top. best spot in boston and they still hold the crown for me for best oysters in town.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is cozy.
We made a reservation and came on time. The host told us that we have to wait because our table is not ready. After all, "other guests are finishing their dessert." No problem with that. We were waiting approximately 15 minutes, and finally, our table was ready. No one left the restaurant, then I have a question "who was finishing the dessert? And why we were waiting for 15 minutes?" Since this place is small and there is only one exit you can see everyone who is leaving this place. This food had a unique way of serving. I loved the way it looked, however, it tasted okay. Yes, everything looked amazing but it tasted just okay. We ordered Ponzu Mushrooms, Seared Scallop & Foie Gras Torchon, and for dessert Buttered Banana Bread. I was disappointed with Seared Scallop & Foie Gras Torchon it was only one scallop, not even that "huge" as our server called it. The sauce was delicious, other than that I cannot say more. Everything else I tried was just okay. The cocktails were good.
Be the first to ReplyOysters, excellent! But that was the only satisfactory part.
For a new restaurant, one would think they would go above and beyond. Waiter was below average, with little personality. Only recommendation was for the most expensive item on the menu. Messed up wine order-manager didn't rectify.$28 for one scallop, really? Most unprofessional part of the night-the waiter brought the electronic bill and announced the amount in front of our guests. Upon leaving, we mentioned this to the manager-"Well, that is our policy." Don't plan on treating anyone, quietly. With so many other oyster bars in the city, I would certainly skip this one.

Ivory Pearl has always caught my eye as someone who frequently passes by Tappan street. Decided to give it a go for a date night with my partner. The atmosphere was romantic, colorful and calm. Service was quick and respectable, albeit a bit average; our waiter didn't make any recommendations for food or drink or go above and beyond in any way. Our cocktails were good, however nothing interesting enough to justify another round especially given the cost, most cocktails range from $16-18. Oysters and plates came quickly and were very good quality, but if you're looking for substance, Ivory Pearl isn't your best bet. The portions are very small and the cost will likely drive some away from multiple of the same dish. Both my partner and I enjoyed the taste and presentation of most of our food and drink (with the exception of the scallop, singular, and cost $26), however nothing blew us away. We were disappointed to see that multiple menu options that were raved about in previous reviews weren't on the menu for this night (tentacle dog, burgers, sandwich, etc). This has us wishing we had visited on a different night, and may have been happier with our selections if these were available. In summary, the food, drink, presentation and service are decent enough, but very pricy and ultimately unremarkable. The only way I can recommend Ivory Pearl is if you're looking for a good oyster happy hour in the Brighton/Brookline area. I'm glad my partner and I gave Ivory Pearl a try, but we're uncertain if we're going to return in the future.

Went to this restaurant as Barcelona was packed on a Thursday night. Never head of this place but overall experience was interesting and pretty good. We started with a couple drinks. My wife's cocktail was fantastic and the bartender was kind enough to make a gin drink work with vodka. But man, $18? Not sure if we go out enough anymore to see if that's the going rate. The tostada we ordered looked amazing but we were let down with the flavor and the crunch itself kind of tasted stale. The fish sando was great and the squid pasta had a nice creamy flavor. Great service also. But again, $150 for a decent meal is just too much in opinion but these restaurants need to stay alive I guess. Other reviews had raves about this place and the atmosphere. Looks like a fun spot to hang out at, bar-side.

Amazing restaurant with a unique twist to every dish we had!! It was truly phenomenal. Their new Executive Chef, Jamie Kembrey, brings his unique experience from across the world and tailors each dish for a refined pallet. But to someone like myself, I just know what I was tasting was delicious and had a flair to it but couldn't tell you exactly why. However, when the Chef came to our table to present a dish, he was super friendly and welcoming of our questions. What a great guy. (We learned about him when he opened a nice restaurant in JP with 5-star meals at casual dining prices - he has an undeniable gift.)Small, intimate setting with a large bar. Really friendly staff and nice ambiance with a casual or fancy feel. Leaving it to be whatever kind of night you want to make of it. I highly recommend the Ivory Pearl restaurant and can't wait to go back!!

Great vibe in this place! There are only a few tables and limited seats at the bar so I definitely recommend making a reservation. The drinks were fabulous and so unique. A little pricey but they were definitely craft cocktails. I tried the ceviche for my appetizer and was slightly disappointed. It was pretty bland and was quite sweet - I was looking forward to a more traditional citrus taste. I also ordered a few oysters and they were fabulous!

IP is my favorite neighborhood bar and I can't believe I'm just writing this review. Service is always top notch and the food and drinks are unbelievable! Whether I'm out for a meal or just a quick drink and oysters at the bar, I always leave wanting to come back for more. I eat a lot of oysters and let me tell you that these are the best shucked oysters on this side of town : always perfectly shucked. Thanks IP for always making my day!
