The best crab Omelet in my life!
Super well worth the wait! I read some haters about this and that. Here you have the truth. One of the last places in the world were you get cooked by the chef herself. Excellent crab Omelet and drunken noodles. Highly recommended and when get back to Bankok will be on my number one things to do list. Service was really nice. Yes the wait is long, but in other parts of the world you have to wait monts to get a table. Most bad reviews are made by people with no travel or good restaurant experience. Hoo! And price is really low considering it is a Michelin star restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyLives up to its hype.... brilliant
So this is how it goes. Reached there at 11.45am. You need to enter your name on a sheet that is there and note the number next to your name. Ours was 68. On a board they display who had already been seated... in this case it was 23. With a few minutes they started calling numbers beyond 23. Who was present was given a menu, those missing were removed from the list. They managed to reach number 50 which was very promising. However this does not mean you get to sit in the restaurant. From here onwards, gradually you are called to a table which takes anything between 15 to 45 minutes. Once your are called to a table you Await your food which can be again upto 45 minutes. Somewhere in between all this the new numbers were called, this time from 50 to 55. A bit later again from 56 to 67... so close to our 68. Eventually 2 hours 45min later we got called to our table. 15 Min later was good. And 3.5 how hours later we were out. If we had been told that it would be 3 hours, we would have walked away. Instead as it was in stages, there was always anticipation that we were next.... it's our chance soon.... and so forth. In addition, there is a restaurant next door that had chairs outside allowing us to order drinks while we waited The food...... outstanding. The crab omelette was like gold. Soft fluffy and really full of crab. Given the hype we were worried that it may not match up to our expectations..... how wrong we were. It was divine I know alot of reviews are about the service being rude and so on.... the reality is the jay fai cooked nonstop those 3 hours in the heat without a break while the staff ran the place super efficiently. The had no time to chit chat and explain to customers the waiting time etc given that it was all displayed there. I don't blame them Go with am expectation to wait but remember the nirvana at the end
Be the first to ReplyDid I get over charged??
I went to Jay Fai today and ordered crab omelette and drunken noodles along with a beer. Should have been just over 2000 Baht. I also paid for a ladyโs order. She had a single dish with a beer. Checking the prices online herโs was 700 Baht and beer which should have come to 850 Baht. The most I should have paid was 3000 baht!! The bill came to 3750 baht!!! I only noticed this after I left the red and went back to my hotel. Iโm quite miffed about this and it is the only review I want to leave. PLEASE check your bills!!
Be the first to ReplyEasy to eat
For me, trying the food here was not as difficult as I thought. I met a kind older sister who helped me make a reservation. He helped me until I sat down to eat. Even though he is not very good at the language, he tried to make me as comfortable as possible when tasting the food at this restaurant. And I was impressed by the service and impressed. The food of this restaurant is very good. Try asking for services from her. What's app+6613076344
Be the first to ReplyGenerally good food but not worth the hassle (Long review)
Jay Fai runs one of the most celebrated Bangkok food places (News articles and celebrity pics on their walls would attest to it) so we had to try it on our last trip to Bangkok. The bottomline is I have done it for the experience but I would definitely NOT go back again, all things considered. I am writing a long review because in my opinion, this place is venerated beyond what it deserves so I want to talk about both sides of eating here. Thailand in general and Bangkok in particular has phenomenal food and you're spoilt for choice, hence I wouldn't waste my time doing this whole experience again. Most people waiting seemed to be tourists and first-timers, very few "regulars". Other people have mentioned the sometimes confusing booking system and long waiting times (3 hours+ on average, we saw many people miss their slots and having to reenter at the back of the queue because they stepped out for a drink in the middle, so be careful while waiting). Waiting so long on a sweltering afternoon does take away from the experience. Before proceeding further, let me mention the prices are not exactly hawker-stall level (A meal for 2 can easily cost 100-120 USD here, which is at least 3-4x of what typical meals at such places cost in Thailand/Asia). Hence I'm a little critical of the inattentive service and other aspects such as charging for ice separately when all their water, coke, etc. was served almost at room temperature. The food itself was hit and miss. The seafood Tom Yum had amazing flavour and I kept going in for more. I'm afraid I can't say the same for another supposedly must-try dish, Drunken Noodles. This dish was usual hawker fare I thought, nothing spectacular. One huge positive is the generous portions of seafood - The drunken noodles and tom yum both came with massive sized prawns which were lovely. However, both these dishes also had some of the toughest and most chewy squid I have ever eaten. We had to spit out most of the squid, it was rubbery and inedible. I'm not sure if it was just a bad piece of squid or the cooking but again, one would expect this to be taken care of. I want to call out the crab omelette: It's a unique dish, unlike any other and the large quantity of crab is just unbelievable. For a crab lover like me, I was over the moon just because of the amount of fresh crab meat on offer. However, I wouldn't call it the most flavourful of dishes, it was bland, and aside from the greed for fresh crab, I would have struggled to finish the dish. Like I said at the start, Bangkok has so many good options, even if Michelin-starred food is what you are after. Unless you want a selfie for instagram, I would spend my afternoon at one of the other places, eating similar if not better food with much lesser hassle and without having it to literally sweat it out for food. For these reasons, I'm going with a 3/5 and an average rating for Jay Fai, a place I would happily skip.
Be the first to ReplyA mixed bag
This place has both good and areas to improve. Good: Food really is good - crab omelette was our favourite, we also had 3 other dishes that were good Areas to improve: The queuing system was quite confusing and a bit overwhelming but we knew it would be a struggle - and accepted this before going We started queuing at approx half 4 and went and had a drink at a local bar came back and waited probably another half hour. The wait once seated was a little long but with one chef we all were happy to wait. All in all we were half way through eating all dishes at half 7. They charge for ice! 150b for a bucket - our waters arrived room temp so it was necessary to get ice. This seems excessively greedy. The staff were friendly enough after expecting them to be too busy to interact as it seems through over reviews. We ordered 4 x waters, ice and 4 dishes our total bill was 3,390b. Overall, I would recommend as it is an experience whilst in Bangkok, but I wouldnโt go back now I have been.
Be the first to ReplyInteresting
Have never waited 4 hours for food before but new what to expect, it is Thailand and thats how they roll, lol. The King Crab Omolette was fantastic.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible service and completely over rated crab omelette
Horrible service, the employees are so rude and the crab omelettes are awful. Do not waste your time here. People only come to brag on Instagram because this place was on Netflix. And the food is so EXPENSIVE Go to Chairoj instead, if you want a crab omlette and an authentic local experience, thank me later! Just google it.
Be the first to ReplyPURE CULINARY ART
The place is very simple, clean, small and authentic thay style. Be there in advance and take your time to understand that...you have to wait! But it is really really worth it!!! Very helpful, friendly and professional staff. She (Jay) is very powerful woman, impressive and stunning and she is the only chef cooking every plate coming out from the kitchen. Of course she has a couple of great assistants cooperating with her and it is really a gorgeous show to see. The famous crab omelette is delicious, not cheap but there are so many crabs inside you can make a sandwich for the day after! Please go there, enjoy and do not stalk with pics thanks
Be the first to ReplyDouble Standard, Poor Service Staff
the experience at Jay Fai was way too atrocious that I need to leave a review to warn anyone who is thinking of going! staff were arrogant and unfriendly. They showed unfair treatment, different service standard when comes to caucasian guests. the staff were visibly friendlier to them. We were rejected as they were full house on our first visit and no take out allowed. went back the next day way earlier than yesterday and to our disbelief ,we were told its full house again! worst, they will only resume business again the following wed!! while we were trying to accept the fact and finding alternatives, we saw a caucasian lady with three packed food for take out from the restaurant. no matter how good your food can be, at least be ethical! thanks!
Be the first to ReplyJay Fai is great to watch, but food & experience not worth the hype.
After receiving reccommendtions and reading lots of hype online we decided we would treat ourselves on the last day of our trip. We only queued for 2 hours, which was much less than we were expecting and got a table about 3pm. Most people waited much longer than this though. Watching Jay Fai cook was mesmerising, and we got the perfect table to watch her at work. She really does cook all the dishes herself, which is probably why there is such a long wait and slow turnover of tables. Unfortunately the rest of the experience was pretty poor. Despite ordering whilst in the queue (you're given a menu for 3 mins to make your choice), we waited at the table for another hour before being served. The food we ordered was rich in ingredients but very bland in favour. The crab omlette was bursting with crab but not much else I can say about it. The bill came to 3,000 baht for 2 people - 10x more than pretty much anywhere else in Bangkok. In summary, Jay Fai was great to watch and it's amazing she still cooks every dish. In my opinion, it absolutely was not worth the hype, the 4 hours in total time taken, the disinterested staff or the extortionate prices. There is so much amazing food in Bangkok, that you don't need to waste your day or budget for this!
Be the first to ReplyRespect lady Jay Fai
expect long queue, my friend reached the place at 7am to queue. 8am started to distribute number and he manage to get No.23. We have waited till around 12pm to get a seat and around 1pm for our food. I have tasted crab meat omelet, stir fried prawn with yellow curry, drunken noodle and tomyam soup. All are good and couldn't say not worth it after plenty hours and dollars spent. Overall, worth a try if you have time to spend for waiting. The spirit and determination of Jay Fai in doing every dishes are what deserve the star.
Be the first to ReplyThe long wait and attitude of staff not worth the hype and publicity
As a long time Bangkok resident, experienced travel writer and 35 years of hospitality experience I held high hopes to experience Jai Fai to see what all the hype and publicity was about. Sadly we were so let down, it was my birthday and we arrived early to get a number for a table only to be told the wait list had closed for the day. The girl that spoke to us was rude, arrogant and totally dismissive, I have never been spoken to by any hospitality staff member ever, she clearly hates her job. Hence a lovely young couple offered us their number since their 2nd sitting table guests could not join. We waited for almost three hours in the hot sun, smoke from the cooking station and sheer disarray of their seating arrangements. Once our table number was called she yelled at us and said I told you earlier the bookings were closed we explained that the other people gave us their booking, she was furious and yelled at them and said to us no swapping table number, then turned her back to us totally rude and arrogant and ignored us. i have never experience such bad attitude ever. The price

Waste of time. Arrived at 13.00 saturday to find they had closed the waiting queue even though there were empty tables and folks waiting. You need to make a booking in advance to eat here. It looks like a tourist destination just because of a Michelin award. Just to eat an omelette.... The place is a very basic with plastic furniture. Obviously we couldnt try the food.
Be the first to ReplyOver rated restaurant
the staffs were rude and does not entertain any questions e.g. how long is the waiting period and can I use the wash room while waiting. we got out table at 9:10am and waited until 10:40am before food were served. The crab omellete was great but the tom yam soup, drunken noodle and yellow curry was so so only. Our bill total 4,850baht. I will probably come again for the crab omellete only in future,
Be the first to ReplyDisappointment
Was waiting in a queue since morning. We were number 68. Went to washroom after 2 hours of waiting, that time queue number was 62 and when came back queue number was 64 then the waiter suddenly changed to 75 and when we were trying to say that we are 68, she said โno you left, thats why i removed you, one person had to stayโ Very disappointed, i understand she is famous and has a great food, every one is ok to wait including us but at least to treat customers with respect.
Be the first to ReplyChef's Table visitors beware
It boils down to this - it isn't worth the wait. I know you watched Chef's Table, but the story is better than the food. Took 3 hours waiting outside, 1 hour at the table before food. The crab omlette is well made but pretty flavourless without the sriracha sauce. Other dishes were better (pad kha prao for example) but easily found other places. The staff were appallingly rude, and the process to get your name on a "list" is a joke. They constantly put up a sign saying "no more food today, no list, don't wait" only to take it down 30 minutes later and start a new table waitlist. Happened about 4 times while we were there. Similarly everyone is confused about the process to get a reservation/table, because the staff themselves appear not to know what they will decide to do.
Be the first to ReplyExtremely overpriced and overrated!
Hadn't actually looked at the prices of this place before going there. And then standing in a queue and waiting for hours.....no thanks! For Thai Street food.....just because she now has a Michelin star and was featured on Netfkix. I had checked the prices out 3 years ago on our last trip to Bangkok and they were very reasonable then....but not now. 1000 BAHT for a Crab omelette.....you gotta be kidding me.
Be the first to Reply2 hrs wait time
We arrived at 2 pm, got a table at 3 pm. We had lunch at 4 pm. By the time we left the resturant, its 5 pm. Food was above average, fresh. Wait time is horrendous in a hot weather. Table service was poor for the amount of money paid; 5000b for the meal. Good experience , but will not go there again due to the long wait time .
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely overrated
We got to the restaurant at 830am to avoid the queue but we still ended up waiting for more than 3 hours before the food came. We were the lucky few who could sit while waiting but a lot of the people have to stand there and wait. The food was good but definitely not worth waiting for more than 3 hours. The crab omelette - imo was in particular too overrated. Although Jay Fai is Michelin-starred it really doesn't worth the waiting and paying this much money.
Be the first to ReplyNot thing special. Curosity kills the cat.
We have been eating thai foods for many years. They charge very high price. Poor service. The setting are very poor. The waiting seat squat down and if it break could hurt someone. Very tiny potion of food Lack of genuine authentic type food, leaning toward western taste. You can get much better foods and services in air conditioned restaurants. Not worth waiting for their ordinary foods. Tourists many have a chance to chit chat with each others while waiting for hours in a hot environment. That propably the only best thing about going to this street food restaurant. What people read on internet can definitely create CURIOSITY THAT KILL THE CAT. I wrote this as soon as I got back to Australia. Regretted to waste time and money for this experience. It is up to you to gain this unforgettable experience. Ha ha ha๐ฅถ๐ฅต๐ช๐ค๐๐๐๐
Be the first to ReplyGet the crab omelette
Get there early! We got there around 8.15am and we were lucky enough to get seated in the first round. If you donโt get there before 9am, youโre either in for a long haul or a disappointment. Donโt be fooled into thinking youโll get your food quickly, be prepared for a long wait as Jai cooks each dish herself. The crab omelette is de-li-cious! It really is. Yes, itโs expensive, yes, thereโs a super long wait, yes, itโs worth it.
