Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse - Lexington Reviews from The Last Year
Wow...where to begin on what was the best dining experience
Wow...where to begin on what was the best dining experience and service I have ever had in Lexington. Food was absolutely excellent from fillerless crab cakes to perfectly cooked filets for two of us to great chicken for my wife. Food was perfect and service may have been even better. Doug was our head waiter and Gus his assistant. Was my daughter's 16th and Doug could not have been nicer or more accommodating. Special menu for her birthday with Happy 16th on top for us to keep. Photo with all of us. Rubys just goes the extra mile....maybe extra five miles to give guests a great experiences and it shows. Cannot recommend enough. 5 stars easily!!! Top restaurant in Lexington no questions.
Jeff Ruby's is a classy, luxury dining experience you don't
Jeff Ruby's is a classy, luxury dining experience you don't want to miss! Everyone should enjoy a meal at Jeff Ruby's at least once. The food is superb, the staff doesn't miss, and the design is unlike anything else you will find in Lexington. One of my favorite parts about going to Jeff Ruby's is admiring the beautiful and unique decor and fixtures throughout the restaurant. The attentiveness of the staff is unmatched when compared to any other restaurant I have been to. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, however, the roasted carrots with whipped goat cheese is my favorite shareable side dish! Let them know if you're celebrating something, they will bring you out some of their famous butter pie!
Hands down the best place to celebrate any occasion in
Hands down the best place to celebrate any occasion in Lexington!! Farris, DJ, and Zach always go above and beyond to make sure each meal is fabulous. The staff is so warm and welcoming. I only have great things to say about Jeff Ruby's!
One of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at.
On 06-19-2024 my wife and I had a most amazing dinner, not only was the meal the best that we have had since forever and the service was excellent. Our waiter Josh and his assistant Eli were professional and helpful in helping us select the perfect meal and they were spot on. Although our meal was expensive we considered it money well spent
My family recently met after 2 years of not being together
My family recently met after 2 years of not being together due to life's obligations, one of which was active military duty. I selected Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse - Lexington for our special evening out! We were absolutely delighted to be served with some of the most exceptional service. Shout out to Josh and Gus!! As out of town guests, we loved the atmosphere that was very Kentucky cozy without being heavy or dated. The food was phenomenal. From our Miami roll to our East Coast and West Coast oysters, and our mouth watering Japanese Wagu steaks, topped off with a dessert unlike any other, this is one of the best restaurants we have been to. Our dining experience was just that - an amazing experience! Thank you again from our ever so grateful hearts!

My wife and I shared the A5 Wagyu strip steak with Brussel sprouts and they were delicious. Ended with the butter pie and it was absolutely amazing!!! The service was first class. We will be going back for sure!!! Thanks for an awesome 40th Anniversary meal!!
Went here to celebrate our daughter's graduation from UK
Went here to celebrate our daughter's graduation from UK with her Doctorate Degree. When we walked in my first impression was it was very tight and busy. However, with college graduation being the same weekend as the Kentucky Derby I'm sure that had a lot to do with it. We sat out in the patio area by a bar. The menu is ala cart, pretty pricy. I had the salmon and hubby the rib eye, we ordered the Brussels Sprouts and a side pretty much like potato a Groton to share. My salmon was juicy and cooked good. Nothing really more special than other good salmon I have had, just much more pricey. Hubby enjoyed his steak, said it was good as well. The sides were all good too. As I said nothing over the top of with the food than other less expensive steak restaurants. For how expensive the food is I was very disappointed of the lack of cleanliness in the area. I feel as the restaurant is pretty much listed as a high end restaurant more attention on making sure the floor is clean should be taken. Over all our waiters were very nice and attentive. Had a good evening celebrating such a wonderful occasion.
This place is expensive for the sake of being expensive.
The ambience is immaculate, very high-end, luxurious, flashy, and exuberant. The service is friendly, classy, well-trained. The food? Meh. Like, really meh. It's especially meh when compared with the price. I have been a few times and every meal I have ordered, including their steaks and burgers, was just sub-par. Good, but not great. My Girlfriend got pasta, salad, and chicken and said the same. You are dressing up and going to a fancy restaurant for the purpose of going to a fancy restaurant, not for the quality of the food. The desserts are VERY clearly frozen, which is highly disappointing considering the price. I would only return if my meal was paid for by employer/event. If you want higher quality food for half the price and the same fancy environment, go to Carson's down the road. FAR, and I mean FAR, superior in quality of food and service.
The Wildcat Cake!!! Oh my gosh.
There is nothing like it!! The steaks are always amazing and the service is always fabulous. That cake though. I cannot get enough of it. I know that after dinner deserts are not always a thing, however, if you miss out on the Wildcat Cake you've missed out on perfection.
Best Experience!
Our dinner experience at Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse was top notch! Our server, Kazman was amazing. He was attentive, personable and very thoughtful. The GM, Farris also came by to say hello to our table. We had the Lobster, Filet and Wagyu NY Strip - all were cooked to perfection! The dessert presentation was quite a show and also delicious! Highly recommend the Bananas Foster! We enjoyed cocktails like She’s a Daisy and the Brule Old Fashioned… all of which were balanced and delicious.
Great Night in Lexington.
We enjoy a wonderful dinner in Lexington the first weekend of April. The Sea Bass was amazing and one of the best dishes i have ever had.

The food was absolutely delicious! I went as part of a large work event for dinner and it was quite the experience. The jumbo shrimp appetizer was delicious, very large and fresh texture and appearance. The meatball appetizer was very flavorful and seasoned well. I ordered The Freddie salad as part of my meal which was a basic but delicious salad containing roma tomatoes, applewood bacon, and buttermilk ranch. It was creamy and the flavor of the bacon gave a very distinct addition to the salad. For my main course, I got the filet mignon cooked at the temperature they recommend at the restaurant. It was perfect and had a nice salty spiciness to it. The sides were a very delicious asparagus (I'm usually not a fan of this veggie but here it was delicious), amazing mashed potatoes, and some of the best macaroni and cheese I have ever had. The top was crispy with what looked like bread crumbs and it tasted amazing. The wait staff was very kind and professional, and attentive to each of our tables. I appreciated the ambiance and decor of the restaurant, it felt very old school (in a good way) and welcoming - like the old steak houses my parents used to take me to as a kid. Overall a great place to eat if you are from or visiting Lexington.
I visited Jeff Ruby's while in town for a business trip.
We had a large group of us (about 17 people) so we had a private room and I can't say enough about the server. She was AMAZING; she stayed on drink orders 9and there were a lot) the food was presented promptly and plating was very well done. Great team there, can't say it enough. To talk about the food, we had a specific menu for our group, so I will speak on the appetizers, we had a variety of meatballs, seafood balls and shrimp all VERY delicious and the shrimp were HUGE! Then we were able to pick our entree, which I choose the NY Strip Steak which you can see in the picture was large for a strip and very well cooked. We shared family style, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese and asparagus. The mashed potatoes were smooth and silky just great. The macaroni and cheese was a little disappointing with a lack of flavor. Lastly, we were able to pick our dessert which I choose the creme brulee. Great crisp top and really liked the beautiful presentation and touch of berries and creme on top. Very well done. I would also like to give compliments to the bartender, a fantastic espresso martini. I will be back to visit again.
The service as always was impeccable.
The server was courteous and interested in our party of 6. They had a special that most guests ordered.

Been here a few times and the food and service has always been great! Forgot to take a pic of the apps until we were almost done and then completely forgot on the dinner and desert.

A relaxing atmosphere and tables were spacious with a nice distance between them. Low noise level. The food was good overall. I had the filet and it was skittle too chewy compared to other restaurants I have dined at through out the USA. Service was excellent and on the spot.
We Will Try Again
Overall, We enjoyed our dining experience. Suggestions: Just say no to the kale salad. Someone was very heavy handed on the vinegar in the vinaigrette, thus making it pretty much inedible. Just say yes to the barrel filet mignon with grits and shrimp. Prepared medium, just as ordered, and it was absolutely delicious. There was a rowdy table of gal pals beside us who were pretty obnoxious in language and mannerisms. So say yes to biting your tongue and overlooking rudeness. Having just come from the UK game, we were perhaps underdressed. Therefore just say yes to tossing your barely butt-covering little black dress in the car before dining here (NOT). Anyway, we will return for that filet for sure.
I had a really disappointing experience at Jeff Ruby's on
I had a really disappointing experience at Jeff Ruby's on Friday. This was actually the third time that I've gone there and my steak has not been cooked properly, but usually they seem to go out of their way to correct it. This time was different and a very lackluster experience. My steak was overcooked and gray all the way through. I brought it to my servers attention and he seemed a little irritated but agreed that it was way overcooked. I was eventually brought another filet but I had been butterflied and it came out way after the rest of my party had finished their meal. It was a very disappointing experience overall. I've been to Ruth's Chris and there the servers will point out if a steak has been prepared incorrectly before you even have a chance to bring it to their attention. Do yourself a favor and make the drive to Louisville to go to Ruth's Chris. Jeff Ruby is not worth the exorbitant price.
Who wouldn't give this restaurant 5 stars? From the moment
Who wouldn't give this restaurant 5 stars? From the moment you walk in you are treated with the utmost care. I loved the décor and was stoked to get seated in the Gatsby room. Our wait staff was incredible! The food was phenomenal, to the point that I thought about it for a month afterwards. It is probably best that we live so far away.
Came here a couple times- the first was amazing.
Got the Wildcat cake and it was delicious. Loved the decorations and the chandelier in the main dining room is gorgeous. The service the first time we went was strange, the waiter always forgot something. He brought the appetizer but no plates. He brought dessert but no spoons. He brought the check but no pen. However when we went back a second time, the service was above and beyond.
Fabulous
This party of 5 had a fabulous experience with Johnny Kentucky as our server extraordinaire! He has the balance of hospitality and professionalism that made the experience 5 star plus! Oh and the food….every bite was delicious from the Freddie Salad, Surf and Turf to the Butter Cake!! The mixologist deserves a 5 plus star rating as well! This was my first time at Jeff Ruby’s and I will be back!

Everything in general is great at Jeff Ruby's, and the first half of my steak was a very good medium rare, however, it wasn't evenly cooked as the second half was medium well. Ended up eating 2/3rds of it but the last third was too overcooked for my liking and I was already full.

Meh. That's how I would describe my experience here. My wife has had many business lunches and dinners here, so she wanted to take me for our anniversary. The ambiance and live music is good, a bit much and a bit gaudy at times but no biggie. The food was great, my steak was cooked perfect, the Brussel sprouts were to die for, no complaints. Now for the bad. Service...it sucked. Our waiter was for lack of a better term, stuck up and unconcerned about us. He spent most of his time 2 tables over entertaining a group of 8 older ladies, probably lobbying for a good tip, I won't fault him for that, and smoking, I will fault him for that. Drinks sat empty, cocktail orders took 20+ minutes, he checked on us twice, he was passive aggressively rude, it really detracted from the entire evening. If it wasn't for his trainee, we wouldn't have gotten our food, cocktails, water refills, or the bill. He was great, so nice that I ran across the street to get more cash to give him a substantial tip, mainly for saving our disastrous anniversary dinner. I may be biased because my wife hyped this place up and I expected more than I should've, but if I pay $600 for dinner, I expect good service. If had to do it again I would go to Carson's, Tony's, Cole's 735 Main, even Malones...for similar quality food, similar ambiance, drastically better service, all for much less money, thus making the cost/benefit analysis a no brainer. Food: 5 stars Ambiance: 4 stars Service: 2 Stars Price: 3 Stars Averages out to 3.5 stars, which I think is fair.
A pleasure filled evening
Great service and atmosphere for visiting with friends and enjoying the steak and lobster and crème brûlée and a glass of wine.
Great date night!!
Amazing!!! DJ got us a table at the last minute before the UK game. It was wonderful. Drinks, foods, and overall a great night!
Do not go! The most rude management team ever! We have
Do not go! The most rude management team ever! We have four people that go to Jeff Rubys after a basketball game.... we are told upon arrival there are no tables until 10 PM. However, you are welcome to go to the bar... We walk over to the bar and nearly every bar chair says "reserved". Sort of weird since you can't reserve bar chairs, right?... Unless you're friends of Jeff's... We were told. So wow the entire bar chairs nearly all reserved... Even if you stand there and wait for someone to get up... Once they get up a staff member throw down a big sign that says reserved the people that have been standing there waiting for an hour and a half, Can't even get a table... I speak to a female manager... To complain of the issue... And she's part of the team... And tells my party of four that we will need to leave... Obviously, at first I refused to leave because, mind you . We have waited for a table for about 45 minutes... Just as I was told... But the rest of my party insisted we go to Tony's restaurant where we can get better service... I finally agreed to this scenario... Couldn't have been better plan as our service at Tony's was remarkable... not only is the service better at Tony's, their espresso martinis, but Jeff's to shame! Not sure if I'll ever go back to Jeff's to deal with such rude and inappropriate behavior from team members, including the female manager. Or maybe I'll try to, on the game night get a bar chair reserved for me. So in the future, if anyone ever needs a bar chair at the bar, keep in mind Jeff Rubys does reserve chairs at the bar, so do not let them tell you any different... Let them know you are just friends of Jeff's and see where this goes! Simply explain to them the last time you were in Jeff's nearly over 50% of the bar chairs were reserved, so why can't you get a reservation?
Great service, beautiful restaurant.
Food was very good. Steak was in the top 3 I've ever had. Wine list was impressive. Cocktails are top notch h
Don’t trust Jeff Ruby’s to get anything right!!! Thanks for ruining our New Year’s Eve plans.
We made reservations two months ago by phone, and even booked a night at the hotel next door because of our dinner plans. I just called to confirm and they don’t have our reservation. My husband and I were together on speaker phone when we made the reservation, so I know for a fact we talked to someone at the restaurant at the end of October. And now you don’t have our reservation??? Now where do we eat at the last minute on NYE? We traveled from the Caribbean to celebrate an evening out and enjoy Jeff Ruby’s for the first time. I even bought a gift certificate for my husband as a Christmas gift. Anybody want it? I’ll never darken this door. If you can’t get reservations right, I can’t imagine anything else is at all enjoyable at this establishment. I’ve heard mixed reviews from friends about Jeff Ruby’s, but I thought NYE would be a good night to have the experience even if the food isn’t great and it’s basically overrated. Terrible service. Completely incompetant hostess. We asked to speak to a manager and they hung up on us and now they won’t answer the phone. Disappointed is a gross understatement. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Jeff Ruby's Steakhouse
So the Fat Man and his wife wanted to have a date night, we felt like getting a little dressed up. So we ventured out to Jeff Ruby's in downtown Lexington, KY. Jeff Ruby's offers prime steak cuts, sushi & a vast choice of whiskeys in an upscale dining space with chandeliers. For our appetizer we tried the Oysters Rockefeller which comes with Spinach, Mornay, Parmigiano-Reggiano, 19 Pernod. The oysters offered good flavor in every bite, and were cooked through with a slight chew. The spinach and cheese compliment the oyster with a little salt and creaminess to the bite. The licorice flavor of the pernod is very subtle but added a dryness to the salty bite. For my entrée, I went with the Barrel-Cut filet with Mac n cheese, Brussels sprouts and a bourbon peppercorn sauce. The steak was cooked to a great rare, perfectly red in the center. It had a good salt level with a great outer crust. It was tender and juicy, the peppercorn sauce is very peppery on the front and backend with a heavy saltiness and good flavor, it reminds me of a gravy. The Mac n cheese noodles were overcooked, and the cheese sauce tasted like it had broken, leaving it gritty. However, the cheesy crust on the top is great with a crunch when digging into it. The Brussels are fantastic, they are cooked tender with a good sweet maple sauce, that is not overly sweet. My wife had the Bourbon filet with cheddar grits and Bourbon garlic shrimp. The grits have a good cheddar taste, but they were a little watery for my liking. The shrimp is cooked perfectly with good flavor, and they were of good size. Her steak was cooked perfectly to a medium rare, and it was tender and juicy. Jeff Ruby's has a full bar, beer and wine selection. The staff was very attentive and well-informed of the menu. I highly recommend a reservation. The Fat Man says that Jeff Ruby's is Fat Man Approved with 3 chins.
Loud and chef having a bad night?
We were seated at a high top table in the piano bar area which was last available when we made reservations. The volume of the singer and piano was deafening. No one, including servers, could speak to be heard. Ridiculous. Next up: My salmon was visibility over cooked and tasted like it was going bad. The refire was even worse as it was undercooked and raw in the center. I refused the further attempt to have any other substitution and of course was not charged. My friend’s meal charge was also removed and manager did apologize, which was appreciated. This was my friend’s 3rd negative experience in a row at this location which pretty much means we are out. A shame because it is a beautiful restaurant and I know they can do better.

Great Service - amazing dinner!!
Read about the site in NYT and bought a reservation at Mother Wolf in LA 2 days later. Worked great and the food was amazing!!!
Worked perfectly!
Got the reservation (that I couldn't get anywhere else) and was able to entertain a group of friends at the infamous Bern's Steakhouse.
Got into Nobu Malibu
Wonderful! My parents are visiting and we have wanted to go to Nobu Malibu for years. I tried getting a reservation myself but it was next to impossible. So glad I was able to buy a reservation on appointment trader for a decent price!
Very easy
Was very hesitant going into this experience but am glad to say that it worked out very well ! will definitely use appointment trader in the future
Fabulous Lunch
I was veeeeeerry skeptical that this would work, particularly at a restaurant as hard to get into as Nobu Malibu, and it was perfect! We had lunch outside on the patio and it was fabulous!
Great reviewer team
Just wanted to take a second to shout out the reviewer team. Even though they probably review hundreds of listings and bids a day, they still take the time to leave great comments and respond relatively quickly. Thanks!
Incredible
I got a reservation to Don Angie, which I've been trying to book for weeks! I am very happy with this service.
Best platform out there!
Super simple, easy, and fast to secure reservations for hard-to-get restaurants and locations!
This app is life changing
This app has opened my world up to so many wonderful new experiences I would never have the chance to have without access to this awesome app! 10/10!
Worked perfectly
Was a little nervous at first but was pleased to see that the booking went through flawlessly.
Highly recommended.

Last minute reservation for Delilah Las Vegas
Got a last minute reservation, dinner for 2 at Delilah Las Vegas: super impressed! The process was simple, transaction seamless. We had an amazing time! Couldn’t be happier! 😍
It works!
Ok at this point I've attended a reservation purchased on AT by a friend and sold a reservation personally. Both worked pretty smoothly, nothing sketchy about it. A few areas for improvement including a way to more directly communicate between buyers and sellers, but the app always seems to be in development. AT customer support is really(!) responsive and helpful too if you have questions!
Money transfer
As a seller, I like the fact i have the ability now to transfer money out of my AT account and into a bank account. Makes getting the money much easier then the process before.
Love this app
Got to go to places otherwise unreachable
Easy Access
Very easy to get into one of the hardest restaurants to reserve in New York.
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue?
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
Payouts Blocked Because of Sell Through Rate
Does anyone know how AT plans to handle cases where a seller is quitting the platform but has a sell through rate <25%? The error message I got said to fill more bids or find other ways to increase the rate.
Is AT really going to block sellers from withdrawing their money? Especially revenue made before the sell through rate was introduced??

I will give you 50% of ALL of my PROFITS if you teach me how to make profits?
LOL. Thank you The New Yorker.
Appointment
Transferring reservations is not supported in AT. Why not just use the name in the AT screenshot?
Buyers interested in Bern's Steakhouse: PLEASE READ
Same goes for 4 Charles and I Sodi
Prepaid Reservation Fee
Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
Congrats on 3 mil
🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🍾🧨🧨🧨 now on to 30 mill!
Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it?
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid?
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted.
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from?
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered?
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
