Since yelp doesn't really have much of a presence in Singapore, I resorted to reading blogs and was enlightened on the breakfast delicacy that is Shui kueh. What is it? Shui is the Chinese word for water and these rice cakes are steamed in little tin cups and individually scooped out by hand as you put your order in. They're slippery, moist, soft and topped with diced preserved radish and you can also add chili oil on top. I'm not usually the one for spiciness, but I tolerated that one and in fact, it MADE the dish for me. I could taste dried shrimp in the topping too, which reminded me of bagoong! Haha. The lines for Jian Bo is a testament their popularity and they're really the best in the island. ย S$2.50 for 5 pieces is not a bad price for a snack. I can't imagine that Singaporeans really have this for breakfast since it's a very indulgent treat. Despite that, I loved it so much because the texture reminded me of Filipino "Kutsinta" and it you've had this dessert, well, the shui keuh is the savory version of it. 5 deliciously cheap stars!

I had a long layover in Singapore so I stepped out of the airport to try some local food and went to the Tiong Bahru food market. This was such a good choice and there was so much good food around. If you are like me and want to try a whole bunch of different food this place is a must. I read about this online on multiple sites as one of the most recommended places to eat and boy it was worth it. My first time having Shui Kueh and it was fantastic. Soft, but juicy and moist delicious rice cakes served with diced preserved radish and some hot sauce. I cannot stop thinking about when I can have this again as I live 15 hr flight away from Singapore.

The best hawker stall food in my entire trip is here at Jian Bo Shui Kueh. It's located to the left corner immediately as you enter the 2nd floor of Tiong Bahru. You can't miss it since there always seems to be a line there. The shui kueh doesn't look like much at first. It's just steamed rice cake topped with a pile of radish with seasoning. However, the topping is amazingly delicious. In fact, it was one of the only food I finished on the entire trip and went back for another order.Plenty of people also stop by to get it to go. I was tempted to take a 3rd order with me but had to refrain. If I'm ever in Singapore again, I would definitely be back to eat this.
Be the first to ReplyThe best chye poh and the rice kueh is super soft and moist.
Absolutely the best chwee kuey in Singapore
Be the first to ReplyThis Shui Kueh is pretty good, and affordable too.
The kueh in itself is pretty average; however, those vegetables that come with the kueh is unbelieavably tasty. It has this sweetness to it, a little bit of sourness and is crunchy. Worth a try.
Be the first to ReplyYeap this shui kueh is nice.
Probably one of the best shui kueh, translate as Water Cakes, you can find in Singapore. The shui kueh is steamed rice flour and steamed in a small cup. The texture of the steamed rice cake is smooth and light. Topped over it is Chye Poh condiments, and this is the best part of the dish. This shop's chye poh differ from the rest in that you can taste the dried shrimp in it. The others does not add this stuff. That the main difference here. However, this condiment is too oily. You can see the excessive oil dripping down the shui kush and the pool of oil when you are done with it. Otherwise the review would been 5 stars.
Be the first to ReplyI hunted this place down due to the reviews.
ย I didn't realize it was in a hawker market upstairs. ย What a neat place. ย All kinds of different food vendors. ย All the food is extremely cheap and so far delicious. ย This place is no exception. ย The main dish (shui kueh) is delicious and a must try!!!
