Joe's Shanghai New York Reviews from The Last Year
Go anywhere else! Cash only tourist trap!
I don’t know how this is a top rated restaurant on other lists, but I wish I had read the reviews on TripAdvisor first. Don’t waste your money here! Bland food and I saw waiters being rude to European customers just because they didn’t understand what they ordered. It’s also cash only which we didn’t see until we had finished our food and had to send my husband out looking for an ATM. What century are we in that they can’t accept cash? I’m disappointed we wasted our only meal in Chinatown here. Don’t make the same mistake!
Amazing service, ambiance and food! My first time visiting
Amazing service, ambiance and food! My first time visiting Chinatown and this establishment, I was impressed. The next time I'm in NYC it's a must! I had the beef broccoli and was blown away at how tender the meat was. It was also seasoned to perfection
this place had the most reviews.
i thought it was just ok, fried rice wasn't to die for, sweet n sour ok, dumplings ok, considering how busy it was, service was pretty quick. If there's a line up, go somewhere else, not worth the wait

The dumplings (pork and crab) were amazing! We also had the crispy beef, spicy beef, and Shanghai noodles with chicken. scallion pancakes were also delicious! Long wait, but worth it! Cash only for payment.

Food is always delicious! The whole family loves going there. We are get the soup dumplings, rice and chicken.
Surprisingly busy on a rainy Thursday @7:30pm.
This is my second time here and the soup dumplings are probably the star. Crab or pork are good and sizable. We didn't order as much this time but the rest of the food didn't exactly hit the spot. . Pork Soup Dumplings - must get . Crispy fried beef - very sweet and crunchy; can't totally taste beef . Shanghai fried rice - kind of bland . Beef Crispy Pan Fried Noodle - also not notable, contains canned baby corn, canned water chestnuts, canned star mushrooms, carrot and broccoli. The noodle used is the type you'd have in a bird's nest type dish. Restaurant has nice modern "old Shanghai" decor. Note: Cash only

Soup dumplings is my favorite, service is very fast, everything on the menu is great. Always packed, there is always some waiting but worth it
These are the biggest dumplings I've ever seen! The crab
These are the biggest dumplings I've ever seen! The crab dumplings are super flavorful and had a lot of soup inside. Dumplings come out fairly quickly and service was quick as we were seated right away. It's a cash only establishment.
Everything was so good here.
Star of the show was the soup dumplings. They are huge! We also had pan fried noodles, eggplant, green onion pancakes, Peking duck and some other things I couldn't remember.
Service was Great! Best Fried Pan Seafood noodles!
Service was Great! Best Fried Pan Seafood noodles! Delicious dumplings! I'll be back!
This place has the best dumplings I've ever had! My family
This place has the best dumplings I've ever had! My family has gone here before, but we wanted to find it again because of one thing we loved the first time we went, the soup dumpling. We had gone to chinatown in Italy not long ago to get some soup dumplings, unfortunately they disappointed us. We got to this restaurant and were instantly seated at a table, we ordered some pork soup dumpling, scallion pancakes, spring rolls, and fried dumplings. The food came out in a couple minutes and we tried one of everything, and it did not disappoint. All of the food was delicious. The soup dumpling broth was rich in flavor and the scallion pancakes were very crispy. The only thing that was not entirely perfect was the spring rolls, instead of spring rolls they gave us egg rolls, it was not a big deal though because they were still delicious! The look of the restaurant is beautiful and very clean! I will definitely be telling my friends to come here!
Disappointing soup dumplings
I was so disappointed with my visit to Joes. Not only the restaurant accepts only cash but now they automatically add 18% tips to the bill. I came by for lunch and was able to get a table right away. The service was ok and the waiters were halfway attentive. I did order crab and port soup dumplings which were very disappointing. The top of the dumplings were hard like they were made early in the day and steamed to the point of drying. The broth inside the dumplings wasn’t flavorful and the broth was cloudy. This is no longer a good place for dumplings. It’s time for me to try another place next time I visit Chinatown
NOT good for vegetarians!
Visited with a group from work and in spite of the website saying it serves vegetarian dishes, really it is very limited in this area. Most of the dishes in the "Vegetable" section of the menu included pork or crab or shrimp so I ended up with a plate of mushrooms and pak choi for $21. I had some very average vegetable dumplings but there are no veggie soup dumplings on the menu. The food was okay. The meat-eaters seemed satisfied and impressed but it was nothing special for me. Chinese food is often not great for vegetarians but their website specifically says it serves vegetarian dishes so I expected more than this. They take cash only but there is are 2 cash machines just inside the front door so that isn't really a problem.
so-so
We ended up at their place because the wait at Shanghai 21 was 1 hour. In short, I expected better than our Chinese restaurants in France! A little very disappointed! Waiter who speaks poor English
I did not expect
They recommended this Restaurant to us after walking the BROOKLYN Bridge, you have to walk about 20 minutes, but it was worth it for the very delicious food.
Exceptional pork and prawn dim sum
Must try their dim sum, a sensorial experience because they are filled with meat and broth, served with an excellent vinaigrette sauce. The noodles with good meat, huge portions, at the end bring segments of orange to refresh the mouth. When you arrive they immediately serve fresh water with ice. Kind and professional. We entered at 7pm on Saturday with practically no queue, but at the exit it was full of people waiting
Not friendly, poor service and quite frankly a restaurant that let our great first day down in New York
A party of 10, clearly tourists from uk, was t clear about size of dishes, waiter let us completely over order, no offer of help and advice, ended up with a large bill and more importantly wasting quite a bit of food. Very rude, no help and a place with no personality!!!
Very good Chinese in Chinatown.
Kind welcome. Efficient service. Obviously, it's difficult to choose when the menu only talks about unknown dishes. So we asked for the same thing as the table next to us (it looked good!). And it was very good. And not expensive ! Well done !
Great by cash only
Really enjoyed their famed soup dumplings and some other items, but be sure to stop at an ATM on the way or walk with your cash because why are they cash only???
Perfect Chinese food in NYC
Fantastic Chinese foof restaurant in Chinatown NYC. The place was packed with many people waiting outside. Foods were delicious, eapecially the peking duck and dumplings Xiao Long Bao. Too bad they did not have live lobsters. Otherwise everything was excellent.
Ok but nothing special
Good food but nothing special, plenty of places just as good nearby without the wait!

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
How to list a Nobu Malibu reservation
Hi, I have a reservation to Nobu Malibu, but since they don't do text or e-mail confirmations I haven't been able to get my reservation posted. I have posted a screen shot of the phone conversation on the listing, but it keeps getting rejected. If anyone has an idea how I can get it approved that would be much appreciated, thanks!

Give the best answerConcierge change fulfillment time
I posted a request for a reservation this Thursday between 6:30 and 8 pm and initially the potential seller said it would be fulfilled by today. Now they changed it that they will only fulfill it by 5pm that same day. Basically I would have an hour and a half to get to the restaurant. Is this allowed?

Give the best answerApp
This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
