If you like cold canteen food this place is perfect for you!
Amsterdam was heaving over Christmas so I feel some places are just catering to tourist...mass quantity food, at maximum price, minimum quality, as you'll never see them (the tourist) again. The food was pricey and the quality was disgusting. I know for a fact the food was mass produced way before and served from canteen style containers. It all came out in about 5 minutes and was lukewarm. Reading past reviews it seems like it used to be a good place but has lost its integrity and has got lazy / greedy.

While in Amsterdam, you have to try some rijstaffel - it's just a thing you have to do. Unfortunately for this visit I was there solo and it can be hard to find a place that caters to rijstaffel for solo adventurers. This place was recommended by hotel and it did not disappoint. Located at the edge of the city centre, it is easy to reach and find. They always keep a percentage of their tables open to walk ins which was great as I had not booked! I was immediately seated in a cosy nook, the lighting was dim and it gave slightly pub vibes which was exactly what I was in the mood for. The menu is fairly simple, a nice selection of starters and then a choice of rijstaffel. I went with the Kantjil sedap to start, this was like a mini indonesian tapas selection of bites. A nice variety, lightly spiced served with a choice of dipping sauces - see photo. Presentation was a bit lacking but that isn't why I was there ;) For the main I had the Nasi Rames, a combo of rice meat and veg dishes. It arrived in front of me and I was delighted - a seriously heaped dish of food, I don't remember all the names, but there was rendang, a beef stew, cucumber salad, stir fried veg, delicious crackers, satay (of course) and a portion of serundeng which I had never had before and noted the name. The serundeng is spiced, grated and cooked coconut which you can use to add flavour and texture to each of your bites of food. Heavenly. The starter was 15 which for what I got was a little bit steep, however the main was 20 and is a great value meal. If I am in the city centre again and need filling up on tasty food at a reasonable price, I will be back!
Be the first to ReplySlow service, lackluster food
If you want to wait 1.5 hours for overpriced bowl of boiled cabbage, white rice and two Buttcheeks of chicken on a stick, this is the place for you.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing and disgusting
Disgusting and tasteless food. The rice was flavored with some powder stuff, the vegetables were not fresh but frozen. The chicken breast skin wasn‘t crispy but slimey and the waiters were unattentive and rude. Just very disappointing and a waste of money.

Visited on a recommendation but sadly it did not live up to expectations. Food was luke warm on cold plates which was remedied but service was also poor. We had to ask to order drinks and the waiter didn’t come back to take desert order. Front of house was helpful and maybe we were just unlucky as it seemed a popular restaurant but we left disappointed.

I'd never tried Indonesian food before, but I'm glad I did now here. The service was excellent, and the food was delicious.

The food was nearly tasteless, essential herbs and spices that belong in these dishes were notably absent. For example, there was no ginger or garlic to be found in the babi kecap. Some of the dishes were almost cold when they were served like the sambal goreng telor and the pepesan ikan. If you want to taste Indonesian food, this is not the place unfortunately as the restaurant is beautiful.-

Amazing food, really well cooked and well presented. Don't forget to book in advance to make sure you get a table. Menu was really easy, staff were incredibly helpful and the meal and experience were great. Would thoroughly recommend the restaurant.

Bland average food. Mushy vegetables- tons of slimy cabbage and carrots. A tourist restaurant of low quality.
