They do not accept foreigners, do not go!
I don’t understand why my experience as foreigner were totally opposite from the previous reviews. They just simply don’t accept foreigners. It’s fine to be yourself but please let people know so that no one would waste lots of time to try to go there.Totally unacceptable.

We came across this gem of a restaurant by accident and can only agree with the other positive reviews. The pork is absolutely superb and actually would melt in your mouth if you could resist chewing on it. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful to even non-Japanese speakers like us.

As a couple from sweden, which both work as chefs and are foodies, we where lucky to stay in the area and just happend to drop by. One of the most welcoming and cozy places we visited while i Kyoto.
The staff, the food, the atmosphere, all amazing!
The local farm to table produce and the cooking metod made this restaurant really stand out in the sea of brilliant places this city has to offer!
If we ever travel tru Kyoto again, we’ll make sure to come back!
The best ever pork dish we have eaten
2 Australian couples were looking for somewhere to eat and we had passed this place once as we walked up the street and finding we were in need of a cold beer we turned around and entered the door of this restaurant. We were not sure what we would find as it was not exactly for non Japanese speaking customers. We were warmly welcomed and ordered 4 beers which were icy cold and presented with the Japanese menu that had pictures of their pork dishes on offer.
We ordered the aged tonkatsu pork being a sirloin cut (enough for 4) and the shoulder cut along with a salad and dressing. They told us that it would take 30 mins to cook which was fine by us as we were enjoying the beer, by this time the owner had called upon his assistant who spoke English and she told us how they raised the pigs, slaughtered them, aged the meat and then cooked the meat (truly paddock to plate).
The salad turned up first and was beautifully presented and fresh and the hollandaise sauce was to die for, then the pork dishes arrived and they were truly out of this world,
melting in your mouth with the satisfying crunch of the perfectly cooked panko breadcrumbs.
After savouring every delicious mouthful we thought we could not eat another thing and then they presented us with a little sandwich made up of two small slices of fresh bread with a savoury cooked egg slice in the middle that had been coated in some sort of herb/salt mixture and once again we were blown away by the perfect taste and texture.
Another round of beers and we were all in heaven.
This restaurant had only been open for 3 months and were the 1st western visitors and if our dining experience is any indication they will be open for many years.
The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and intimate as it only had seating for about 12 people, the service was attentive and thoughtfull.
