I'm used to ordering from Kazunori. The takeout (at least from the Westwood location) has always been prompt and pretty decent for the price. I only recently started trying the hand rolls in person at the Marina Del Rey location. I know that there is always a long line and they have to constantly rush people in and out, so the customer service isn't the best. Like you'll get someone just say "crab." and smack a handroll down in front of you while they wait, not so patiently, for you to finish your food as soon as possible so they can rush you through and get the next paying customer in. It has never been so bad that it's been review-worthy or that noticeable to be just outright unpleasant. And yet, that was the case here at the DTLA location. The food is not good enough to balance out the terrible service. I'll admit we got there late, around 9:20, when their closing time is 10:00 (maybe update the Yelp page also since it says 11:00?). They could have easily told us that they were done for the night, but nope they chose to let us stay just to be jerks to us. The host asked how big our party was (a party of 4) and then after that didn't communicate with us at all. Seats opened up and at one point there were some open seats lined up. Two people in line shoved in front of us and just sat there, and so we thought maybe we were supposed to just sit as soon as there was an open seat. No explanation from anyone though. 3 seats opened up and my friend asked the server if we were allowed to sit and he said "....you can. but it's only 3 people". She also had to literally chase him down. In a one room area. Come on. She said "Oh... then we'll wait then. Or are you guys going to close very soon" and the other woman said "Yeah. In one minute" Okay... so the 3 of us sit at the chairs available and one of the members of our party decides to sit at a chair way off to the side. Suddenly the two people next to us got their receipt. We told our friend to come over next to us. The hostess tells him he can't order because the people haven't left yet (she also scoffs). Then the other host goes over to him and tells him "are you going to order or not?" The woman then comes back and says "why don't you join your friends" ?????? ???????? Again, why not tell us that you're closed for the night instead of just being extremely rude and contradictory?? It was two of our birthdays, we had already made the effort to meet in DTLA, so we decided not to make a fuss and we stayed to eat (how foolish of us) The actual chefs were fine, but we could not enjoy the food because of how rude the hosts were, and they didn't even make eye contact with us the rest of the night until the end when one of them said "hope you have a great night!" after we already paid.... I hate to be this person but it really feels like the 16% gratuity fee just made it easier for them to be so rude. We were really just some extra money squeezed in at the end of the night to them. Disappointing. This review will most likely do nothing, because all of the other reviews complaining about the terrible service doesn't seem to have an effect on the restaurant actually making an effort to have good service. Sadly, I don't think we'll go to any of the locations ever again.
