Tasty, nutritious, fast service
Big menu: you can choose anything you want: prawns, crabs, chicken, meat, different type of rice and side dishes. Reasonable prices, portions are good to share + you can choose size of every dish (regular-medium-large). Fast service, staff is polite. Working hours: lunch (12pm-2:45pm) and dinner (starts at 5pm)
Be the first to ReplyBestest wok hei filled Zhi Char in Old Singapore
Am particularly fussy about eating zhi char and this is my 1st time dinning at Kok Seng Viola revelation of wok hei at its peak Prawn noodles in broth came piping hot and seafood so fresh & succulent it danced Prawn paste chicken was so good that we ordered a 2nd and 鱼香茄子 is definitely a must try 5 star rating for food & service! Prices are reasonable
Be the first to ReplyTasty Chinese food for both locals and foreigners
Very good dishes from Kok Sen. Must order the dry Yong tau foo, prawn horfun, kailan with roast pork, prawn paste chicken and I am sure alot others are good too. Just that I am always stuck with these few to venture out to other dishes... Operation can get very messy when they are busy but still, not stopping us from patronising them.
Be the first to ReplyExtraordinary local Chinese Cuisine
Everything was so good, very well deserved be a Michelin Bib Gourmand authentic Singapore local food. There are a few must try’s - the big prawn noodles/ Ho fun; golden dragon chicken; Yong Tau Fu, braised bitter gourd with black beans. We have been here many times and it never fails us. Restaurant is always very crowded, it is better to make a reservation. Service is good and food is served without a long wait.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent & tasty Chinese food
It was jam packed when we arrived at the restaurant but we were ushered in after 10 min. Service was extremely fast & food was super delicious at this Michelin restaurant. Price was reasonable. The big prawn ho fun & crispy chicken skin with stuffing were must try’s. We wanted to try to Yong dao Fu but it was sold out.

Serving tasty local dishes, this old school eatery continues to draw the crowds through the years. Takeout is a good option considering the limited capacity, with the food tasting just as good.
Be the first to ReplyKok Sen to the rescue!!
I ordered for delivery via Grab Food, but for whatever stupid reason, Grab decided to cancel my order at the last minute without telling me, and despite me putting in the order 2 days in advance. Fortunately for my family and I, Kok Sen contacted me and said they will send the order direct to me. Thank goodness! Food arrived on time, piping hot, delicious. I would recommend this place for zhi char. Big prawn hor fun, clay pot Yong tau fu, seafood fried rice and prawn paste chicken were especially good. Will definitely order with them again, but this time, go direct to them.

Checking out this place with high hopes. Order the 3 popular dishes and all are salty to maximum. Total cost $50 for 2pax lunch.
Be the first to ReplyLong Queues but Delicious Food
Visited this place with my family as we read rave reviews about the food.
Arrived to find an almost hour long queue on a Friday night but once we were seated and orders were taken. The food arrived quickly and did not disappoint.
We especially enjoyed their Big Prawns Hor Fun.
Popular but disappointing for us
With high expectations, we selected this popular che char restaurant for our dinner take away orders. We arrived to collect on time, but had to wait over half an hour, a long time, for our order to be ready. We tried a range of dishes including their signature Big prawn Hor fun, Har Cheong Kai; Fried Yong Tau Foo, stir fried kailan with roast pork, bitter gourd with pork, etc. The Hor fun was good but rather spicy. The other dishes were average.
Be the first to ReplyGood Zi char
This place is usually packed if you come during peak dinner time. We waited about 20 mins to get a table and another 20mins for the food.
Portions here were bigger than we expected. Tasty and flavourful. Would have liked a big more "wok hei" in the fried hor fun. The Crispy roasted chicken was a standout, skin was crispy and meat was tender and not dry, a good recommendation from the staff there.
The hotplate tofu was slightly underwhelming though, go for their other tofu dishes instead.
Best to eat here in bigger groups to share the big portions.
Excellent clay pot Yong tau fu
There was a short queue when we were rhere. While we were waiting for our order, there are many people ordering takeaway. It didn't take long for the food to come. The claypot Yong Tao Fu is definitely very good and is a must try. Ordered clay eggplant and beef hor fun and both are really good too. However, the place is not wheelchair accessible.

Popular place with long queue. Service is quite slow but the food are mostly delicious. Had to wait so long for a dish to be serve. Their beef horfun is really great. Also, their prawn sheng mian is great too. Fresh prawns. Their sambal sotong is mixed with dried shrimps which is unique and delicious. Their belachan chilli is great too.
Cash terms only.
Great local restaurant – you could walk past it though and what a mistake!
We picked up on this place when we were in Chinatown where we didn’t want to eat and it was only a short walk across to it. We were pleased to see a queue when we got there suggesting the place was popular with locals and the back-packing community. We queued for only a few minutes before getting a shared table with a local couple who were helpful with the menu. There is loads of choice and the chicken, pork, broccoli and rice dishes we ordered were great. The place could possibly concern those people with fears about hygiene and as I write this some time later, I can confirm that we suffered no repercussions. I paid cash for the bill though perhaps they have a card machine. We really enjoyed our meal here, it was nice to be surrounded by so many locals and I’d thoroughly recommend it.
