Recommendation!
Great food and service! We ate traditional pashticada with gnocchi, tuna pashticada, pesto with almonds and veal cheeks. Everything delicious. Special praise to the waiter Saša. The best!

We've been going to Konoba Mate every summer for more than a decade, and the food and service are always excellent. It's a fantastic break from the usual island troika of grilled meat, grilled fish, and pizza. A little out of the way, but well worth the modest effort. Reserve ahead.
Be the first to ReplyGood value for money, nice setting and pleasant welcome
Accustomed to this restaurant, we were a little disappointed this year, despite their presence in Michelin and Gault & M. The welcome is very warm, the service very professional and friendly. The terrace, said to be romantic, is quite pleasant. The starter, local cheese offering was good and well presented. However, the main dishes are good, but remain traditional and without a touch of originality or particular presentation. In particular, what a disappointment with the dessert compared to last summer, a unique verbena sorbet certainly homemade, but a ball placed as is on a plate. The same goes for the chocolate fondant. We are used to Ms Michelin and Gault & Millau referencing, but in France, the criteria must surely be adapted locally. The restaurant remains good value for money compared to what is available in Korčula.

What a nice spot. Such a lovely setting in a very old building. Very atmospheric and the random church bells are interesting…lol. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was very nice and a bit different from other meals we have had on the island. Very reasonably priced. Another restaurant to visit again if we are ever back on Korcula.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the drive. We cook better at home.
Not all dishes on the menu are available. Two main courses not available and two desserts not available either.. Been twice, no Rosata available twice. Not all dishes ordered are brought to the table and charged for. After a complaint, they removed the unprepared dishes from the bill. The ravioli with goat cheese is dry, with too little and tasteless butter. The meat on the grill was lamb. Was fried completely tough. The side tomato salad was completely tasteless, just a little olive oil thrown in and a slice of onion. Not even salt and pepper on the table for seasoning. Not worth mentioning in Michelin at all, every hobby chef cooks better.

My experience at this restaurant had its highs and lows. It began on a positive note with excellent service and decent house wine. However, my enthusiasm dwindled as the evening progressed. One major disappointment was the limited menu availability. Shockingly, around 25% of their menu items were unavailable, including some of their highly recommended dishes. This was a major letdown, as I was hoping to savor their best offerings. The available dishes didn't fully compensate for the limited choices. Many of them were just average, leaving me with the feeling that I might have been better off cooking a meal myself with local products from nearby shops. Overall, the service and initial impression were good, but the lack of menu options and the quality of the available dishes left much to be desired. I hope they can improve their menu consistency in the future to provide a more satisfying dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyMichelin you made a mistake
We went to this restaurant as a seal of our beautiful holiday in Korcula, on the advice of some guides and also based on our research: the overall experience I would say was without infamy and without praise. The positive judgment falls on the professionalism of the staff, on the refined mise en place (very rare for Croatia, even if not all the tables were the same, ours for example was a little out of the way and with a hole in the tablecloth, but okay) and for some dishes with a little more culinary study (especially the starters) which I repeat, are an exception in Croatia. I appreciated the omelettes, the seasonal vegetables and the pasta, but the second courses were definitely not at school canteen level. A menu that goes beyond the usual Croatian grilled squid is not enough to scream innovation and does not justify the almost €70 bill. Desserts inedible, I would go back just for the starters.

What a beautiful place, A little piece of heaven ...beautiful relaxing little courtyard, and exquisite food and service.
Be the first to Replygreat, but with a concern.
Well prepared food in a restaurant that features very local cuisine. Lovely setting, attentive service. Unexpected location for a restaurant of this quality, lending wonderful atmosphere. My only concern: three couples have reserved 2-tops on the outdoor terrace. One of the settings seats a couple in miserable direct sunlight. which couple gets seated there? The lesbian couple--my wife and I. The other 2 couples have not arrived. We query our server and are told we cannot move. Was this sexist? Homophobic? In any case, in a place of this quality, the seating arrangement was unacceptable.

Perfect food, wine, atmosphere and service. Average 40 Euro pm for 3 courses. We booked on recommendation via email, no problem. Very friendly welcome, great seats. The local house wine was perfect and we even took some home with us. We had the ham, which is cured and plenty of it. The bread was two types and treated esquisit. The main course was two Tuna Pasticada and a traditional Pasticada which was plenty enough per person, large portions! Definitely recommend the cheesecake which is a carrot cake top and bottom with cream cheese filling. Perfection! A lovely homely rustic feel with locals queuing up, so must be good!! Definitely recommend for anyone travelling through to Korkula as it's on route to and from the ferry terminal.

Gastronomic wealth of all possible flavors and a combination of incompatible delicious delicacies, a unique idea in combinations of homemade desserts, in one word, a wonderful gastronomic trip, thank you Biba
Be the first to ReplyGreat place - but slightly over-hyped
This is a great village konoba and we had a lovely meal here. The food is fresh and you can taste the care that goes into the produce. That said, there's something over-hyped about it, whether that's down to the inclusion in the Michelin Guide and the fact you need to pre-book even for a Monday dinner off-season... The food is good but super simple, the macaroni side for example is simply that, boiler homemade macaroni with nothing else. At the same time, the deserts were so complex that there was nothing fit for kids - chocolate cake with chili and fennel seeds ice cream. It's a great place but I'd suggest a bit of a reality check and a de-hype. A menu review perhaps? Either keep it simple - but then take the smirk off your faces and make the menu less pretentious; or go full Michelin and then you can keep the smirk and even raise prices, but you can't then serve plain boiler macaroni.
Be the first to ReplyDry your eyes, mate. I know it's hard to take but her mind has been made up. There's plenty more fish in the sea…
A splendid konoba not far from the main road along Korcula. It’s seldom that you feel that a restaurant lives up to its spiel of a family venture, but this place does it superbly. Delicious veal cheeks so soft that they almost ate themselves… kind and attentive service too. Do book to avoid disappointment.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent homemade dishes with personal touch
During our two-day passing by across the island Korcula we heard for this place as a "must try" so we did. Konoba Mate is placed in a Pupnat village, near the Korcula-Vela Luka highway which is about 5km from the sea...Quite big terrace with about 7 tables for 8, nice shade....we took homemade ravioli with goat cheese for starter, beef stew with homemade macaroni and lamb stew with green pees for main course and sorbetto with domestic herbs for desert. We also took some red house wine. Some traditional dishes cooked with fresh, personal touch and excellent ingredients, very helpful stuff. It was our first visit, so I can't wait to visit them again....
Be the first to ReplyDelicious food but served by arrogant and very poor waitress
We booked a table in advance - restaurant is overbooked because it has 5 tables for circa 10 people and one person serving all.
When choosing what to eat a waitress made very poor explanations and recommendations with comments to make us feel ignorant and stupid about the local food - menu is written in local dialect understandable to locals of the island. Same happened while choosing the deserts.
With trained and pleasant staff this restaurant could provide much better service. Also listing in some fish meals and dishes - you could feel the island tastes,
Nice to try but wouldn't repeat as the service is way below the student cafeteria not to mention the pricey konoba.
Pure Perfection
One of the reasons to choose Korcula for vacation is this place. Food, service, everything is top quality. And wine! House wine is just € 10,5 and, mmmm, what a wine 😊

great (ultra) local and homemade food (from the own farm of the family) which we never saw and ate before although we are every year in Croatia
- the service is very friendly and able to explain and recommend food
- don‘t miss the desert, it was so good and special
- romantic ambiente in the garden
