I decided to go based on reviews, but later found out it is my Japanese friend’s favorite restaurant in the city when he visits from Japan. I can see why. I didn’t count the seats, but I would estimate 20 total and there were, I think, about 6-7 chefs, so each was working with about 3 people. Impressive and friendly and it made you feel special. The drink person was behind us, so we had to get used to someone suddenly talking from behind or appearing with drinks and some dishes. Now about the food. It was very special, delicious, interesting and a bit different than other places I have visit that are similar. They seemed to have a lot of smoked foods, which was interesting even if not my favorite type of food. There were three types of uni, including one reportedly packed on the boat in saltwater and shipped unfrozen to the restaurant. I also had a flat fish flavored with it’s own liver. The sea trout and sake lees soup was another favorite. All elevated out of the broth (fish broth with the sake lees) on a piece of daikon, there were delicious parts of the same fish – sashimi, smoked eggs and crispy skin. It was a wonderful sensation of tastes and textures. There were many things I wanted to try from the a la carte menu, which is only possible after purchasing the omakase, so I chose the smaller one to allow many additions. That worked best for me. They have a nice list of beverages and some one who is like a sommelier. I cannot wait to return!
