Island Retreat for a Day Without the Retreat Service
The experience here is definitely worthwhile. You have to take a boat to the island from Cannes and then are promptly seated. You are able to explore the island and enjoy the scenery from every seat in the restaurant. However, I was unhappy with the service here. Some members of the staff seemed to be in a rush for us to leave so they could seat another table and the prices were high for the quality of food. I was disappointed that the service did not match the ambiance.
Be the first to ReplyShockingly, stunningly awful
We were on a week's private cruise from Cap d'Antibes to Marseiles and back. One of our party of 3 had been to La Guérite last year for a wedding reception and enjoyed himself, so recommended we go there for lunch. At the end of our meal he was deeply embarrassed, not to say mortified. The setting is attractive although there are far better ones along this coast. The service was stretched and unfriendly. The food was shockingly bad, arguably the worst meal of my quite long life, and shockingly expensive even by the elevated standards of the Côte d'Azur: €480 for 3 miserly starters made from poor ingredients (€30 for a very little bowl of bad Greek salad?), 3 small thin pieces of stale overcooked seabass fillet whose uniformity of shape and size strongly suggested defrosted, a bottle of sparkling water, and an execrabke bottle of Chablis that could strip varnish from wood. The ambience is Club 18-30 without the class. An endless procession of motor boats delivers groups of unsuspecting tourists, hen and stag parties to be fleeced as they sing along to a desperately limited live group playing very old pop hits (Sweet Caroline 4 or 5 times in the 90 minutes we were there). Far worse than Club 55 in St Tropez, which until now has been my "must avoid" yardstick for wildly overpriced mediocrity. A truly depressing experience in every way. If the food and wine were even adequate you could just about bear it in exchange for the location, but as it is the only sensation is that of having been gouged and treated with contempt. Even one star is five stars too many.
Be the first to ReplyGreat party atmosphere, good food but very expensive
Had a great time with friends and food was outstanding. Real party vibe, great music. Service was good, although 2 main courses were late. They brought extra food and knocked some money off the bill. Very very expensive though, so a once only occasion for us.
Be the first to ReplyBeware the €15 bottles of WATER!
We had a nice enough lunch with friends and family, until the bill arrived and we were charged 6 x €15 for six bottles of water that no one in our group ordered. Total rip-off: €90 on water?!? And when I asked about tap water, the server told me it tastes bad. Location is great, atmosphere is great, food is average and extortionate.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth over 250€ per head
The place is greatly located on the island of Lerins but the management should review their business model. You cannot be paying over more than 250€ pp it is not worth it no matter who you are. Your name shouldn t be the price increase reason and this is what happens. Any sport or entertainment figure should be careful and not pay whatever to be there. Definitely not worth the service the food or anything
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful place, DISGRACEFUL SERVICE.
Gorgeous setting, lovely food and fabulous music. APPAULING STAFF with aggressive attitudes towards customers. In desperate need of training in social settings, an absolute embarrassment and disgrace to the beachclub. Expect to wait for food for 1.5hrs and drinks 2hrs.
Be the first to ReplyVery rude staff
Good food - although limited menu Nice waiters Good setting - beachy Overpriced - food / drink Very rude bar staff - terrible Very overpriced boutique
Be the first to ReplyGood for Seaside Party & Nice food
We visited La Guerite back in September. We made the reservation through our hotel otherwise it was impossible to make a reservation. They have a model where they pick you from the harbour with their boats, when you arrive you have to wait at the bar (as part of their set up they expect you to spend some time at the bar for drinks) then you are allowed to go to your table. We chose to sit in the restaurant part this way we enjoyed our food enjoyed the live music but a bit away from people who are partying on their tables. We had nice artichoke salad, gambas tempura, la Guerite pasta and octopus. For 2 persons , we were full and couldn’t finish the pasta. We also opened a Provencal Rose Wine (Chateau Minuty) and enjoyed our food, live music, party and the whole atmosphere. If you had the chance it is a good idea to go once
Be the first to ReplyGreat vibes, music and food in a beautiful setting
Immaculate view, vibes, food, and music. This place is definitely worth a trip for the experience of the ferry, St Maguerite as a whole and all of the above. We enjoyed the octopus so much we almost reordered it after essentially inhaling the first dish of it. It was likely the best octopus I’ve had in all of Europe. We enjoyed every plate we had and the drinks were also delicious. The only reason I’d knock off half a star is because we had to wait a bit despite having a reservation and the service, even once seated, could have been improved.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful setting, great food, upbeat atmosphere
With 3 friends we had a wonderful, entertaining lunch here. The atmosphere was fantastic and the whole place gets into the Mediterranean vibe and has a great time. If you are looking for a great lunch venue on the edge of the sea that lets you stand on your chair and groove to the music, this is it.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed
We visited this place on August 2020, during COVID times and it was simply wonderful, every single employee was attentive and helpful with the guests, the food was also very nice, a but expensive but when you find a good service you pay with no regrets We made our reservation plenty in advance and we were so excited to be there again. Shame on the place for the worst service ever, we felt like in a completely different place than 2 years ago The food was not good, super expensive , the sides were cold and we waited after each request at least 15 minutes so imagine the lunch I think they are focused on getting full than on having good service and it is so sad because the place is beautiful I hope someone pay attention to all the bad reviews and do something
Be the first to ReplyWonderful day
Wonderful experience, great music from the band and towards the end of the evening from the DJ. Not cheap but worth the money, fantastic atmosphere and all round experience. We stayed all day from 12 until close at about 7pm, danced on the tables and had a great day. Thank you Le Guérite, we will be back for sure.
Be the first to ReplyRidiculous
If you are into obnoxious people and astronomical prices this might be your place to be - - Enjoy! ………………………………………………..
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful experience, average food and extravagant expensive for a tiny portions.
Beautiful place but extremely expensive, 98 euros for a 15.cm truffle pizza, the lowest price of a bottle of wine is 160 euros. The band is average and don't you dare ask for an extra play after they get your tip. The portions are not enough even for a single person, they are samples.
Be the first to Replygreat guerite
we had an amazing afternoon the vibe was fantastic and the food was great, slightly expensive but worth every penny spent there, making a reservation is highly recomended,
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere - beware of thieves
Great location and great atmosphere for my daughter’s pre-wedding lunch. Soured as I lost my wallet - subsequently retrieved but minus around €450. Presumably a light fingered staff member helped themselves to it. No morals at all!!
Be the first to ReplySpoilt lunch
Lovely location but the ambience was ruined by a group of ‘musicians’ singing loudly around our table for far too long. Even when asked to move to the other side of a table because the dog in our party was scared they refused. The staff did nothing about it. When two of us mentioned that our chicken was too pink a rather sour waitress said she would let the chef know for next time! Poor quality all round.
Be the first to ReplyA promising start to eat and talk with friends ruined by loud busking musicians
I will echo a previous review earlier this month. The good first. The location is superb, the food is good, the staff are generally pleasant and efficient.
The not so good is the disproportionate pricing of the food and wine. It is difficult to spend less than a hundred euros per head and we spent way more. The outrageously bad thing that this restaurant has got quite wrong is to allow a group of musicians to wander among the tables. They were playing a loud electric guitar and banging a snare drum. Firstly they are not good (even painful to listen to), they are far too loud and they dominate the restaurant and thirdly seem to expect large tips for being there. For about 35 minutes we were forced to endure this loud cacophony and were quite unable to have any conversation at our table. Frankly this ruined our meal and I resent that. One of our group actually got up and left the table until they moved on. The staff rather arrogantly said that people come because of the music but your reviews suggest many resent it. The place is large enough to offer diners the option to be played to or to sit away from the music. In fact no-one seemed to enjoy it. On the other hand the restaurant does have some great music they play at low volume over the PA system which is sympathetic to the ambience. Finally, if I am paying these prices I do not expect to have to pay for a towel to dry my hands. This is a service that should be provided by the restaurant. It’s not the cost , it just makes me feel they are trying to get every last cent out of me.
In summary, I would like to go again, enjoy the beautiful setting, the good food and the ambience in a relaxed way and not have ghastly loud music played at my table. In reality I will probably not go again as there are many other good places nearby.
Sorry to be negative but I really feel you should rethink how you run this place.
La Vie est Belle or La Dolce Vita in France
La Guerite = Life! Amazing experience, great food and wines! The location is a gem, a great atmosphere and the kitchen is superb.
We‘ll see you certainly AGAIN!
Thanks for a great day.
It could be so much better .. I won’t go back
It could be a 5… food was actually very good, fresh and well cooked; service friendly and rather efficient; the place is really nice, right on the water ..but..
- they offer a boat shuttle service upon reservation without mentioning nowhere that is costs €20pp .. one finds the “surprise” at the end on the bill .. under “various”
- despite being good food, it doesn’t match the prices, which are more of a multiple star restaurant .. which this certainly not is
- at lunch there is a music ensemble playing extremely loud but moreover bad around the tables .. this may be their fun concept, but personally I found it extremely annoying .. I came to enjoy the peace of the island .. the sound of the sea waves certainly nicer that the terrible noise offered by the bad music group ..
