Best 2° option. “Chocolate Babka”
I had bad luck. When I went to try the special croissants they were sold out. If you really want to try these pistachio croissants, you must be there 30 minutes before the opining and 30 minutes before the “remaking” of the croissant at 12 (I think they do that at 12) These are so famous that they are sold out in 1 hour. Now, I had the bad luck to be there when the croissants were sold out BUT I tried the best option to eat there if the croissant is gone. I tried the CHOCOLATE BABKA. just try it. It is reeeeeally good. It’s like a mix of cake and brownie with a top of croissant dough. It is amazing. Also it has a little bit of salt. That detail is amazing. CHOCOLATE BABKA IS THE BEAT OPTION after the croissant

Total BS and an example of a business that thinks about themselves first and the customers second. Made a reservation and they made us go outside…. no mention of that possibility when we made the reservation on OpenTable. And it’s freezing outside. The only reason we stayed is because my family didn’t want to go somewhere else. Hope the food is good. I promise I will never come back. Your loss, Lafayette.
Be the first to ReplyNot as expected
The breakfast was good but not special. Not good value for the money. The service was not very polite, in addition the bakery is separate so for bakery products we had to cue and bring to our table (it doesn’t have sense to me)
Be the first to ReplyYou Should go
I can say everything was nice and A class The please was elegant The food was tasty Just the coffee was not as what I expected
Be the first to ReplyBad management
Food okay, staff including manager absolutely sucks. Nasty and disinterested. They have a croissant nazi to ensure as a paying customer (3 of us over 500 for lunch) you aren’t allowed to order the specialty bakery croissants that tourists are queueing up for. They apparently aren’t on menu and you can’t just go and pay. The manager told us they don’t put them on menu for the people that actually make reservations and dine there because they have been called ‘elitist’ and want to prevent people from making reservations to eat the croissants. This was the most moronic discussion have ever had. As a local will just not be gong back ever so I think it’s a very stupid business decision. Didnt do anything for us to address/make it right.

Not worth the detour to New York to taste this supreme pain au chocolat!!! Apart from the puff pastry which was excellent the filling was too imposing and even cloying perhaps a praline could have brought roundness to the dessert. No French manners!!!! Without a reservation for brunch you have to enjoy your pastries and your cappuccino standing near the cash register so you are constantly jostled at each checkout. Everything is written in French but no staff speaks French. Don't expect a hello from them because the only goal is for you to leave quickly and of course if you have a pressing desire to go to the toilet without reservation you don't have access. So it’s not an “infinitely sweet” experience. What a disappointment!!!
Be the first to ReplyTerrific service, beautiful music!
We had dinner at Lafayette recently for an amazing musical event. We enjoyed everything but about it, but especially the wonderful service, especially the welcome and friendly, gracious attention of Stella. I'm not sure what her job at the restaurant is, but she went way beyond the call of duty. In all it was a fabulous event! Dinner was delicious too!
Be the first to ReplyUpscale diner & bakery was decent salad selection for lunch
The Lafayette Cafe & Bakery is an upscale diner and bakery was a decent salad selection for lunch. I had the tuna & anchovy salad followed by creme burlee, both were good (if expensive, even for Manhattan). Service was reasonably prompt given the lunchtime rush.

Lafayette boasts the best pistachio-filled croissant in all of NYC. A culinary gem where each flaky bite is a delightful journey into pistachio perfection. Don't miss out on this exceptional pastry experience.
Be the first to ReplyGo-to place in NYC!
Excellent place we’ve been to twice. Great food and service. Lots of choice on the menu. Classy place in nice, safe location.

Delicious croissants from their bakery. Brunch was good and coffee was super. Not the cheapest but a lovely treat!
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the line… nor the price
A few months ago, in Barcelona, everybody started talking about a local bakery that sells the new trending pastry in NYC: a round croissant filled with pistachio. I have never had the opportunity to try it out and, to be honest, that does not sound too appealing to me: in my opinion, a croissant must be shaped like a 🌙 and, most of all, it must be plain! (or it’s a cornetto…) But again, when we arrived in NYC, we didn't know anything about the city anymore, so we checked on the Internet. I looked for salty food and my wife looked for sweets (well, I did look for ice creams and doughnuts myself, to be fair) and she found Lafayette, the original “inventor” of this round pastry (they call it Suprême, btw, but it’s… a croissant). First, we had to queue (under the rain!) for about 20 minutes to get inside just to order to go... While we were queuing, we could see through the Windows all the "content creators" inside showing a camera how much they were enjoying their Suprême: sad. Once inside, I was amazed by... the darkness of the venue. I couldn't even see what I was ordering. Honestly, I knew what I was coming for, otherwise, I couldn't have known what to order... they don't want us to see what we eat? That's a shame because, when I got used to the darkness, I could guess that the venue actually looked very nice. I sincerely don't know why they don't turn the light on. So the clerk at the counter told us about the 4 flavors available that day and we picked pistachio and the seasonal: Suprême de Noël. I must say that the pistachio Suprême was very good, at least the half where there was cream. The other half was just like a regular croissant, a good one but nothing from another world either. The Suprême de Noël was not that good, the cream was too thick, I guess to make it seem like an actual "bûche" but that didn't fit the Suprême so much. Don't get me wrong, it was not bad, but for $10 a piece and a 20-minute rainy line, I expected way more. I would trade this for a good croissant or a pistachio cornetto anytime. Quality & taste: 7/10 Quantities: 9/10 Atmosphere: 5/10 Originality: 7/10 Ratio price / quality: 2/10 Service: 1/10 How I felt afterwards: 3/10
Be the first to ReplyDon't provide free tap water with purchase
I stopped in the bakery to get a morning pastry. As I was paying, I asked for a cup of water (to accompany my purchase) and they told me that you can only buy water and refused to give me a cup of tap water.
Be the first to ReplyGood Sunday brunch option
We ate as a family of 4 on Sunday midday having booked. (they messaged twice to ask for confirmation, but we still had to wait a short while). Ate a mixture of grilled tuna salad, kale salad, endive salad and shakushka; all around $25-30 which seems a lot for greens, but that's just New York I suppose. But all were very fresh, looked good and tasted good. Cold brew coffee was powerful too.

Worst experience ever. Tasteless food, bad coffee. Confusing place, arrogant waiters, worst manager. Run from this place.
Be the first to Reply50th birthday lunch
Birthday lunch following SJP around her best establishment in the west village of New York. We arrived early and sat inside which was perfect. Very attentive staff all round and food was delicious. Before we left a surprise birthday cake was bought out, a very nice touch. Thanks to all the staff
Be the first to ReplyImpressive innovative menu, seamless service and everything tastes effect!
Brunch here was a tray and I can’t imagine how it could have been better. Our corner table indoors was lovely for 4. The menu offered so many choices for everyone - including the non-meat eater who loved the Smoked Salmon Benedict on a bed of frisée with toasted Brioche on the side. The oatmeal was stunning as was the fruit plate. House Coffee was great and our server never let our cups go empty. Service was PERFECT! Everything was impressive and I haven’t even started on the pastries. I will definitely go back and recommend to everyone.

Fantastic place, great food, great service 👍 I recommend the oysters, one of the best I have never tested. The bread and butter is super good too.
Be the first to ReplyWe were transported to Paris........
Perfect weather; table outdoors; good company; food was okay. I would not call it good but more than adequate to round out our lunch. I had a medium rare brisket burger that came out well done, and a beet salad that looked and tasted like canned beets. We were 5 people and had a great time. The atmosphere made up for the food and I would go back. Prices high for the quality.....
Be the first to ReplyHORRIBLE PLACE. Avoid at all costs
I would leave zero stars if I could. Lafayette restaurant was a wonderful restaurant before Covid-19. New Team and New Manager = The place is horrible. The service is mediocre for the price and to make it even worse it is not even respect the clients. Hostess stand was rude.New Manager was rude. Come here if you want attitude. Don’t spend your money there. HORRIBLE PLACE. Avoid at all costs.
Be the first to ReplyExceptional
Lafayette offers exceptional service, food, and ambiance. She loves the risotto and the frisee salad. I love the steak and the french onion soup. But we both love the fries! Cannot go wrong.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic New Year's Eve eve
We ventured out for a pre-fixe Dec 30 dinner in "Le Village." Our private "chalet" was festive, charming and cozy, and the service excellent. Food was excellent. We were disappointed that they had run out of the short ribs we had pre-ordered, but the replacement NY Strip steak au poivre was fantastic.
Leftovers for lunch were even yummier.
Fabulous New Years Dinner in Village!
We did the New Year’s Eve pre-fix in our own personal cabin outside. It was exactly what we wanted for New Years! The portions were very generous and delicious such a rare combination in New York City. The staff was completely attentive and we so appreciated working hard especially with everything going on. The Village houses were exactly what we wanted to have a nice time and be safe. Will tell all of our friends!
Be the first to ReplyFestive Christmas Eve Dinner
Our family had a lovely, delicious, festive Christmas Eve feast at Lafayette. Starting with the bread and cheese selection, all of the salads (my faves were the endive salad and the beet salad), the entrees were delicious, and the dessert! Mousse au Chocolat, fabulous. All the staff was super friendly, the timing of the service was impeccable. Thank you for a lovely and memorable Christmas!
Be the first to ReplyFabulous dinner and service!
We booked this restaurant as we had an early curtain at the nearby Public Theater. And we are glad we did - we told our server Katy that we were in a hurry and she took care of quickly and we made our show with plenty of time to spare. The mustard beurre blanc sauce that came with the salmon was so delicious! The brisket burger was also absolutely fabulous! We can't wait for our next visit!
