Fantastic dining experience!
Authentic Finnish food. We Came here purely based on the trip advisor reviews which I’m glad to say were spot on. We booked earlier in the day and we got the last table. They are very busy on weekends so book early. The staff greeted us with a warm welcome and we had a great table by the window. I had the vodka aperitif with cranberries , excellent Finnish vodka. Then I had sautéed reindeer , my friend had another reindeer dish. Both were fantastic, so tasty and cooked really well. We were served by Sergei who looked after us all night , we really appreciated how great he was. Thank you Sergei!
Be the first to ReplyOverall, the food was fine (except for the terrible rye bread), but due to this poor customer experience, I will never come back
I made a reservation a couple of weeks ago and was really looking forward to trying Lappish cuisine. I arrived a bit early and was immediately seated. From the very beginning, I didn't feel very welcomed. I ordered my food, and everything was served in such a rush that I felt as though I was in McDonald's, expected to eat everything as quickly as possible in order to leave. The rye bread was the worst I've experienced during my travels in Estonia and Finland. The other meals were fine, with the Lappish salad actually being very good. I struggled with the reindeer dish as I was quite full. Nevertheless, I still had my forks in the position indicating I was still eating. Despite this, the waitress asked me if she could take away my plate. I agreed. Then she asked if I wanted dessert, which I, of course, refused. Following this, she asked if she could bring me my bill. This has never happened to me before, and I considered it very rude to be essentially pushed away from the restaurant immediately after finishing my meal.
Be the first to ReplyWell worth a visit for high quality Finnish specialities
We knew Lappi was a bit “touristy” but wanted to give it a go anyway. It was so Much better than we had anticipated. Excellent cocktails, local specialties and friendly service. We shared the starter platter and the mains platter - very generous portions and got to try a lot of tasty interesting foods.
Be the first to ReplyVery good quality
So yes it is a bit touristy and no Finnish people would go here just as a normal dinner. However, the quality of food is great and flavours wonderful. Basically it does give you a taste of the north nordics and it does so very well. Highly recommend the shared starter platter to get a full range of flavours.
Be the first to ReplyGreat meal in a cosy atmosphere
The criticisms of this restaurant made me hesitate, but I’m glad to say they are unfounded. The interior is cosy (not touristy), staff friendly, and after eating in a few Michelin starred restaurants in Helsinki the prices here were a relief, while the quality of food held up well too. Yes, tourists eat here, but the ratio between tourists and locals was the same as everywhere else we ate and visited (saunas included). If you’re looking for a relaxed meal with good reindeer options at half the price of Gron etc. this is a great option.
Be the first to ReplyExpensive tourist trap
We have been here tonight (29/1) and the whole place feels like a big tourist trap. The interior looks good, some say typical Lappish, it could well be a bar in Austria. The girls serving are really friendly, nothing bad about that, but when outside within 55 minutes, spending € 132,- for 2 beers, 2 starters, 2 mains and a dessert, is way overpriced and not worth to go here at all. Then - on top of that we have had better food (reindeer) as well in Helsinki where we enjoyed a full evening out, instead of literally being asked after the dessert “shall I bring you the bill”… Apart from that - the reindeer carpaccio was served very cold, it came within 5 min after we ordered, so probably ready in the fridge. According to the waitress it should be served that cold, but we tasted nothing until we left it standing and getting a bit on room temperature. The main course was ok - had reindeer shank - the meat was a bit tasteless, we had reindeer at Kuu restaurant and tasted so much better. The dessert was ok, nothing special, but for € 12,- a bit overpriced. When we got the bill we initially didn’t notice, but then we saw they charged us € 1,- pp for still water, we have never been charged for that in Helsinki and seen a lot of other restaurants. Upon asking the men (manager…?!) behind the bar - he had some explanation and according to him it is normal in Helsinki…anyway - then at least you should add the price upon asking your guests if they like still or sparkling water. We also spoke to him about the fact that we didn’t like the carpaccio that cold and at that time he literally said - “luckily there are a lot more restaurants in Helsinki to go to”. In that case - my advise to anyone considering to go to Lappi - pick another restaurant where you can spend an evening enjoying good food, good atmosphere and good service.
Be the first to Replycozy restaurant for a typical dinner
I have been in this typical restaurant for a solo dinner, at the end of january 2024. I had no reservations, but there was place for me so i did it. the waitress was very kind and smiling, and very helpful in explaining me the composition of the dishes. I tried sauteed reindeer. It was a bit tasteless (i thought reindeer meat was more tasty), and a bit expensive, but i think in line with Helsinki prices. I general terms it has been a good experience. the restaurant is quite hard to find, because of the low lights inside and a not-so-good illuminated sign.
Be the first to ReplyLovely food, great service
We really enjoyed our meal at Lappi as it combined the three key elements in abundance. Nice ambience, great service & delicious food! While I accept that this is not a cheap restaurant, you can accept you are paying for the location (city centre), atmosphere (traditional Lappish interior) as well as the quality of the food and service. We enjoyed some Kukko beer with our food…to start we had the Lappish salad which had a tasty dressing and the classic Salmon soup which were both very generous portions. For mains, we then enjoyed the Reindeer Shank and the Entrecôte & Fillet of Reindeer. Both were cooked beautifully, and served with very rich and delicious sauces. The real star was our server. He was helpful, attentive & knowledgeable as well as being super friendly and spoke perfect English. He basically glued all the elements together and ensured we had a lovely evening at Lappi. Overall, highly recommended for tasty Finnish cuisine and an enjoyable meal out.

Really authentic place in the heart of the city. Amazing vibe and ambience. Great with allergies too. They know their ingredients well. Good food and succulent. Flavoursome.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Finnish food in traditional setting
Delicious Finnish food with traditional decor which was very warm and inviting. We ate sautéed reindeer with mashed potatoes and Arctic char with beets and turnip on mashed potatoes. Both were delicious and plated beautifully.

By chance this restaurant was round the corner from my hotel. It’s so gorgeous inside with the decor centred around wood, very cosy. I had the grilled entrecôte and reindeer. It was excellent quality, amazing flavours on the plate and well presented, I really enjoyed it. It was quite pricey but for the quality I didn’t mind so much. Great central location. Would be a good option for a romantic dinner with the low lighting but any occasion (or not) really.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible experience.
I waited about 15 minutes at the entrance, but the waiters gave the last table to the girls who had just arrived the same as me without booking. They also asked about possibility to seat and in a few minutes they got a table . it was extremely frustrating and it looks like they expect them to spend more money, which is most likely wrong as i heard them discussing the menu.
Be the first to ReplyTypical restaurant
Typical Scandinavian restaurant with great food and lovely staff. I had the salmon soup and it tasted really good. The service was top ! Even if it’s a little touristic place they made me feel well and comfortable. Definitely recommend

We planned to eat at Restaurant Lappi for New Years Eve. We booked long in advance for 20:30 in the evening and asked if there was anything special we needed to know or be aware of as it was 'New Years Eve'! We arrived at 20:35, having already received a reminder phone call from the restaurant asking our whereabouts. We ordered drinks and studied the menu. We ordered the sharing starter platter at €52.00 and asked if we could order mains later, we were told no problem. The starter was served on a large wooden board and very nicely explained by the waitress who was helpful tentative and polite throughout. However, we were then rushed by an explanation that the kitchen will soon be closing and we needed to order mains, we chose to skip and head straight for desserts. It all felt a bit rushed and should we have known, we would have arrived earlier. The food and drink quality is where this restaurant really underdelivered for us. We ordered 2 apéritifs, the 'Reindeer's Tear' was just neat alcohol and the 'blueberry royale' was flat and uninspiring, for the price, we expected a lot more. The starter platter came with cold and hard bread, the butter was rock hard and broke the bread when spreading. The platter itself was a mixed bag of things, the flavours were all really strong and competing with one another, too overwhelming and too much the same flavours to be enjoyable. I can't comment on the mains as we were rushed an were not allowed to experience this. The desserts were a 'white chocolate mousse cake' which was REALLY bad and very bland, it had not flavour and nothing to compliment the meal. The atmosphere and decoration in the restaurant was good and wholesome, the service (in part) was very attentive and polite. The food and order of service is the reason for 2/5. We left feeling really deflated and really disappointed, it could be so good, but in the end we cannot recommend this restaurant and would avoid next time.
