Le Voltaire Paris Reviews
Wonderful Food and All Around Experience
My wife and I were in Paris for a few days and heard this was a traditional, classic French restaurant - we weren't disappointed! The food was traditional and absolutely delicious, prepared beautifully and we were both shocked by the very large serving sizes (they must be accustomed to serving Americans). The ambience was very dark and romantic, but the staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, so it felt classy without feeling stuffy. Thierry and a young woman whose name I didn't get were particularly delightful, and Thierry (Titi) has a wonderful, playful sense of humor. If you want the latest, trendy gastronomy (foods turned int foam) don't bother, but if you want a romantic setting with fantastic classic French cuisine, you should try Le Voltaire.
Amped up Voltaire
Wonderful restaurant. We stopped in for lunch (with a reservation) and the meal was delicious. Very friendly staff. Wines by the glass were delicious and not badly priced. Our appetizer was mushroom salad with cheese which was tasty. The sole was as good as it gets and the cote de beef with mustard sauce was superb. Donโt leave without the fries though, really maybe the best ever. And coffee ice cream was a treat.
Chic, family friendly restaurant
Tucked away in the 6th arrondissement, Marcello is a chic Italian gem with effortlessly cool vibesโthink stylish Parisians, candlelit tables, and a hidden basement-level courtyard that adds just the right amount of mystery and charm. We loved the pasta vongole and the summer watermelon saladโfresh, light, and beautifully presented. The strawberry pavlova was a perfect finish, and our kids were happy with their classic pasta picks. Though the crowd was mostly French, the staff couldnโt have been warmerโespecially to our 7-year-old, who was journaling at the table. They brought her colored pencils. Itโs those small, thoughtful touches that really set this place apart. The homemade pasta was beyond delicious. Well-run, hip, and invitingโMarcello was exactly the kind of spot we were hoping to find in Paris. Looking forward to another meal.
Delicious, perfectly cooked steak and frites.
One order is enough for two. We were the only ones not aware of this. Excellent wine list. Impeccable service.
Love it!
Traditional french cuisine in a very chic ambiance. Interior has an old Paris vibe all over it. The food was more than good.
The Temple !
Simply excellent. Pure French culinary excellence. French cuisine and table arts at its best. Amazing dishes, amazing quality, perfect service.
Good cocktails ๐น
We stopped by for drinks and found excellent cocktails. They have a happy hour from 4 PM to 6 PM, with cocktails for only โฌ5. Worth a visit if you're in the area!
Terribly slow service
We visit Paris every couple of years and Voltaire is always the best restaurant we go to. This visit was so disappointing mainly due to the super slow service. We waited a long time for the main course and were served quite a while after the two adjoining tables who came in after us. Ordered dessert and my husband asked for an after dinner drink. After finishing dessert the drink never appeared and we were ignored. Asked for the check but waited so long for the check that my husband had to go to the entry to ask for the check.

We had an amazing dining experience here tonight to celebrate my sisters birthday. Food is top notch with out a doubt! Our server Kevin and all of the staff made sure to give us top notch service. I am a server in La at a very upscale steakhouse and I have to say that the team here shows outstanding technical service "with pleasure" and went above and beyond to make sure our night was memorable! Thank you so much for the legendary night!
Have been here a number of times over the past 10 years.
First, the service is impeccable... wait people lovely. Lovely ambiance. The food has gotten mediocre. Very expensive Dover sole is not sole! A very large white fish, bland, tasteless maybe flounder family. Omelette was made as requested, baveuse, soft. Excellent French fries.
My friend and I stopped here for a couple drinks and a meal.
I had a couple of beers, and she ate a meal and had a beer herself. The meal from her perspective was very good, And she was pleased with her meal. The service was pleasant, waitstaff was kind, the restaurant was clean, well-maintained, and the service was prompt. It was a great experience, and I will be back the next time I am in Paris. The location is incredibly convenient.
Talk about quintessential French cuisine.
The service was amazing. First off & most importantly the lady opening up the restaurant let me in before opening hours. It was cold outside in late October & I needed to kill time before the Louvre opened for tours. This nice & courteous lady & her staff prepared a true French Omelette for me. Everything was top notch. The food was excellent, the service & staff were very friendly & professional. Talk about a place to people watch...Le Voltaire is right across the Lourve & Seine River! I no longer drink alcohol but what a bar to kick it at! It's like a French Cheers Bar. This is definitely a fine establishment to visit while in town.
Lunch visit
The restaurant is just across the river on the left bank and very well located. The service is great with friendly staff. Food too is of high quality French style. Worth visiting for lunch
Delicious, high-quality food and service French restaurant.
Outstanding service and quality of food. Staff spoke English and were happy to serve in Eglish. Had steak, and my teen had a rack of lamb, and it was absolutely delicious. The steak was so good that it was melting in my mouth. Also loved the fact that they had pressed (fresh squeezed) orange juice. The entrees included fries, two sorts of mashed potatoes (white and sweet), and vegetables. My teen wanted to be adventurous and ordered med-rare lamb. She tried it, and it was not enough cooked for her. They took it back and cooked it for her and brought a new decorated plate with vegetables. It was absolutely remarkable. The quality of the restaurant is top-notch from all perspectives - food, services, and hygiene (extremely clean), decor. If you love french cuisine, this is a great restaurant.
A Welcoming Institution on the Seine
Voltaire is an institution, and it's common to see celebrities and other notables there. My wife and I have dined here many times though always outside. Using the restrooms, however, we admired the wood paneled walls throughout the restaurant giving it a clubby atmosphere, but stuffy they are not. Some of the tables though are at rather close quarters. It is an awesome experience to dine on their veranda overlooking the Seine, though it can be a bit noisy given the traffic outside on what is a major artery in the city. The staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. I would recommend a dozen escargot to start with which are luscious. With excellent lists of delicious main courses and wines, it's a sublime Parisian experience
A welcome return
A welcome return to my favourite restaurant in Paris. Le Voltaire has never failed to please both on the food and service. I am glad that I reserved a table in advance as the restaurant was full and therefore had a great buzz to it. I hope that it will not be too long before I return.
Amazing lunch
Unexpected and very positively surprised to find this 5 star + restaurant as we walked out of Louvre Museum. Everything was absolutely perfect
Very good lunch
Excellent lunch. Without having reservation, but we were given a very warm and polite reception. Pleasant space, calme and well decorated. We enjoyed everything we 've chosen from the menu, and more particularly le filet de daurade and the asperges. The service has been exemplary, they know well their job and they do it in a perfect way. Bravo

It's great location is a fun place to plot adventures for the day or even for the evening. While I didn't have any meals, I did pony up to the bar to ask for a flat white coffee. Delivered with perfection.
An amazing place.
.the staff the food all top shelf..deserving of 10 stars..staff impeccable service. The food was simply the best..if in Omaha this place is a must..congratulations Chef and staff for an overwhelming experience!
Ordered the sole.
It was like rubber. Left over half on the plate. On the positive side, the waitstaff were lovely and we were in Paris!
Old skool French.. sometimes you are lucky, sometimes you are notโฆ
This is a quintessential French restaurant. Last time I went, it was so good, I hurried back! I wish I hadnโt! The food was clearly warmed up, soggy french beans, crusty french fries and mash with a crust. Delightful setting but sadly not worth it.. I left feeling dissatisfiedโฆ.
Nice but not great
This is such a famous restaurant, and sadly it did not live up to the expectations. The onion soup was great, but the main dish (chicken) was not well cooked. The interior is dark, and in my opinion, oppressive. Service is good, but not outstanding.
Completely exquisite experience that I warmly recommend.
Our service was impeccable. The food was delectable in the true French tradition. And we throughly enjoyed the ambiance -- in fact, everything about our experience there was lovely.
Always the highlight of any trip to Paris.
If you are looking for traditional French cuisine of the very highest quality then you must go here - it is fantastic. The food and wine were impeccable, and the service was warm, friendly and attentive. One of our very favourite restaurants in Paris.
Always come here for Dover Sole-this trip, not so good.
Fish was larger, thicker than past dinners, very white meat, relatively tasteless. Ate enough to satisfy hunger, left half behind. Very disappointing. Service, ambiance always good.
Very good!
4.75 overall Sole was delicious Pigeon was also perfect but we ended up ordering way too much food. Food was wonderful! It was very busy and crowded ( good for them) but because of that it felt a bit hurried! We had a good server and a GREAT dinner
A definite must
What a terrific place. The food was exceptional and we were joined in the restaurant by many regulars. Lots of hugging and kissing by the staff with regular patrons. My wife had the Dover Sole and I had the steak au poivre. We both had the mushroom soup. It was all truly delicious and loved the neighborhood feel.
Bumpy start - Amazing ending ๐
The evening started a bit bumpy as we had to wait quite long for our table, and then the place was too tight. They moved us to another table and after that inconvenience the team made its outmost best to give us an outstanding evening. Moreover, the food is fantastic! Will definitely go again..
Pretty decent place
This place was fine. Mostly full of Americans. Very good steak. The only issue is there were bugs in the dining room. Overall, it was OK.
Worst service I have seen in years
DO NOT GO. Worst service I have seen in years. Food is ok less and service is awful. Impressive how a place like this is still open. DO NOT WAIST YOUR TIME.
I ordered the mushroom salad the was 24 euro.
The description sounded great but what I received was a bowl full of thin sliced raw mushrooms and some cheese, a lemon sliced in half on a separate plate and a bottle of olive oil. For the price I wasn't expecting a DIY salad with no seasoning. Doing the math of cost of ingredients, it was maybe $4-5 worth of ingredients. There are lots of meals that the cost of ingredients are low but the chef creates something yummy. This was not one of those times. I am giving three stars because the service was good.
At the top of my list for when Iโm back in Paris
I so thoroughly enjoyed my visit here that I wanted it to be my last meal while in Paris. Sadly, a reservation was not available. If you are comfortable in high end dining environments, book this now - it will feel special and oh so French! This is traditional, glamorous Paris. They offer the classic French entree of radishes with butter before the meal. Heaven! Donโt forget to put your bread directly on the table. If you remotely enjoy mushrooms, you MUST order the mushroom salad. Itโs unlike anything Iโve ever had and beyond delicious. Iโm sad I didnโt get to have more than one! The accoutrements served with the sole meuniรจre were so impressive - my favorite part was the haricot verts - they had unbelievable flavor. Order a glass of champagne or champagne cocktail - the stemware is fabulous! This is a popular visit for trendy Parisians, those in the fashion industry and locals who love good food. However, while I was there there were also Americans, Spanish, Italians and English dining. I recommend adding Le Voltaire to your must-do list. Extra credit if you find the photo in DโOrsay featuring dinnerware that may or may not be the same that you use in Le Voltaire. Haha! (see photo)
Location and recommendation from a friend sold us on Le
Location and recommendation from a friend sold us on Le Voltaire. It was recommended for dinner but we didn't have the time. Couldn't get them to answer phone for a reservation so we decided to hedge our bets and miss the last couple rooms of the Musee D'Orsay to be there for 12 pm when they opened. We probably could have waited another 30 minutes because we obviously caught them still getting ready for service. Bread service and radishes to start. We did take a little time deciding what to have because my husband wanted everything. Opted for escargot again because we wanted to compare to our last restaurant and they didn't disappoint. They had a problem with the wild boar pate so we upgraded to the foie gras it was considerably more expensive but the snails were so much less than other starters we figured it all even out. Get the pรขtรฉ, it was really very good. Husband ordered the filet au poivre medium rare and I had the sole meuniรจre. Both excellent choices, we didn't realize all the sides that would be coming along, three kinds of potato plus haricot verts which were one of the highlights to the meal. Bottle of wine and a tarte tatin to finish it off. It was heavy and buttery but my last opportunity to have one in Paris. We asked the server about lunch versus dinner and she said the ambience is completely different at night. Most people we saw seemed like couples meeting for work lunch or larger groups. It was all very old school but we were happy we went, even if it was lunch time.
Incredible meal
This meal was truly such a delight. Thank you so much for impeccable service and such high quality dishes. Thank you thank you!
We had a group reservation for a Wednesday night at 9:30.
By 10pm we still hadn't been seated. Members of our group who tried to find out when we might sit were treated rudely, one of them being told, 'We are not your employees.' Well obviously. That attitude was not helpful or even meaningful. We finally left after being told to get out of the way. It was just meant to be a pleasant evening out. Why so much drama? If you can't honor reservations better than this, then rethink your strategy.
