Superb food and atmosphere
We loved this restaurant. The food was superb, the atmosphere was very upbeat and the staff was very attentive. Would definitely go back again

Lenoir has a lovely dining room, innovative well presented food, and wonderfully informed attentive staff. As a group of 2 couples on a mid-week date night, we were excited to try the almost year old new restaurant . The experience was simply delightful. The choice of a bottle of Montepulciano brought a well informed sommelier to our table. Our dinner experience was a leisurely walk through the limited menu of the best the season can offer. You will not be disappointed with this choice!

Our new favorite casual restaurant is Lenoir, owned by Vivian Howard, renown chef and cookbook author of PBS fame. In a great location on Wentworth street near the corner of King, its menu has interesting options not often seen here, such as guinea hen baked with a tongue-tingling, spicy rub. Smokey carrots with walnuts, kale salad with apples and sweet potato skins, and cornmeal dusted catfish are perfect. Tile floor and walls, numerous windows, and hard surfaces give it an exciting buzz, with tables spaced around a centered bar encircled by sunshine yellow chairs on which to perch. Taking your luck eating at the bar does not require reservations, but patio and table dining do, and they will only accept reservations up to four weeks in advance. If I were a Charleston visitor looking for something new and very interesting, I would try Lenoir. Ask for Rudy, the perfect server who neither rushes to the table to inquire, "So how you guys doing?" - which we deplore - nor interrupts his guests while they are chatting. This is a good place. - Vaughan Alsbrook, owner of 22 Charlotte, the Historic District's #1 B&B.

The food is delicious with all kinds of wonderful flavors. And the service is incredible too. Add with that a beautiful location and you have a winning combination.

Enjoyable first dining experience at Lenoir and as expected it did not disappoint! Intimate but casual dining experience enhanced by professional service. If on the menu, make sure to order the collard and grits side served with pork rinds as an appetizer. The texture of the pork skins best described as between cracklin's and commercial pork skins with added flavor of the former. As the menu varies from week to week, the fish is always a good choice. Bon Appetit!

Great service, warm ambiance, each item delicious; we had kale salad, catfish, grits and greens and pana cotta. Each dish distinct, savory and creative.

There are good French fries and the best French fries. These fries were perfection. Paired with our fried collards was a vegetable party for two! I finally got to have the sublime blueberry bbq wings and I now know why the sauce is so popular. Great service and great food. Follow them on IG for inspiration.

My wife and I live in Charleston and we went to Lenoir last night after an art event. It was terrific.
My wife noted that she liked it because its menu offerings are not the standard Charleston fare (no disrespect to the standard Charleston fare intended). Although she’s 100% correct, I think there’s something more going on. Lenoir is so good not because it's different, but because they do what they do REALLY well.
We started with an imaginative grits & greens concoction with pork rinds for the dipping instrument. That was a meal all by itself. Delicious.
My wife had fried catfish (one of her favorite dishes) and I had a patty melt with some kind of really good sauce. Perfect in every dimension.
We also shared an order of cornbread (carbs much?) which was unique. Not thick and fluffy, but luscious, rich, and tasty.
We skipped dessert … duh.
If you’re a local and haven’t tried Lenoir yet, hop to it. Food, service, ambiance are top-notch. If you’re visiting CHS, all I can say is prepare to be wowed.
Beautiful surroundings served with a twist in southern foods
Chef Vivian Howard is one of my favorites. She and her team have a very unique way of showcasing southern foods in season.
Lenoir did not disappoint. Not only was it beautiful but everything we ate was so good.
My friend and I like to taste everything and our husbands follow suit keeping us happy. We started with the greens and grits served with pork rinds and fried collards. We practically licked the skillet clean. Splitting two mains-the ribeye and the snapper-several sides including the blueberry bbq wings and then the surprise taste of the night-dirty farro! Don’t let your dislike for liver fool you into not trying this side. So darn good.
We ended with both desserts. Both great but the carrot cake was the winner.
The service was great, the cocktails were great, the atmosphere was great, and the food knocked it out if the park for us.
Amplifying on my last review now that I found the menu
Since this is a restaurant review it is appropriate that I will eat the words that I wrote earlier concerning Lenoir. I accused it of fabricating 'buzz" by only opening five days a week. While that is true, the reasons are not what I had conjectured. They were unable to find the staff to maintain the standards that Ms. Howard has established and they are lofty standards indeed.
So how did we manage to get in? A secret is to come earlier or later and enjoy your meal but don't linger . If that sounds rushed to you then make your reservation 28 days out and join the throng.
The drinks were well done and hand poured. I really do not like eating at a place where cocktails are squirted out of a gun as I recently experienced at a different downtown hotel space. We chatted with the service people as we waited for the kitchen to open. I have found that people sitting at a bar between 5 -8 are generally very happy to be there, smiling and sociable. In this case it wound up with 5 new friends who came over for dinner to our house weeks later.
I wanted to try as many dishes as possible and started with heirloom apple salad and the blueberry chicken wings. The wings were ... wings. Nothing special but the apple salad hit all the local produce taste buds. Ms. Howard is renowned for working with local producers and the results showed up here.
Knowing that we would be taking some portions home we set out to widely sample the menu . First we chose the sides: Dirty Farro and Fall Slaw. These dishes showed off the skills of the kitchen it having tastes that were not only delicious but had great mouth feel to them. Just the right amount of chew.
If there is catfish on the menu Teri is going there. She has been on a search since Minero closed and she has not been able to find that perfect combo of crisp and tasty. She was more than pleased and there were no leftovers to take home.
I try to look for things I don't cook but in this case I was drawn to that tasty Berkshire Pork Chop that I had seen someone else eating as I just sighed with envy. I even had thoughts of sneaking the bone off his plate while his back was turned and blaming it on the server clearing early.
The chop was what i wanted and expected. I like my pork to be what I have learned kitchens call rare plus. That means it should not be red, but please do not let it be a drab brown or I will send it back. They listened , they talked with the kitchen and what came back was a perfect glowing pink. Juicy and filled with flavor it complemented the sides of produce.
Onw ay or the other get over there. The only change we would make would be to get different seats as the sound level can be intense.
