Little Sakana Japanese Sushi Bar & Grill San Diego Reviews from The Last Year
I recently had the most exquisite dining experience at this
I recently had the most exquisite dining experience at this sushi restaurant, and I can confidently say it's among the best I've ever encountered. From the moment I stepped through the door, I was warmly greeted by the friendly staff, but one individual, in particular, stood out, our server, Precious.

drove down to SD to meet some friends and went to Little Sakana to eat. let me tell you, it did not disappoint! Our server, Precious, did such an amazing job explaining the menu, was super attentive and friendly. The food was soooo good. loved the crab rangoons as an appi !! super worth
The food was great.
We get a regular array of food (tempura shrimp roll, cali roll, cucumber roll, etc.) Nothing too crazy that young kids wouldn't eat. We are never disappointed when we go. The wait was pretty quick (there's a QR code to check in when you get there). The food is a decent price, but it adds up quickly when you're hungry, so be careful.
Came here for dinner with my family for AYCE.
We walked in around 830pm (last call was at 9pm). We were seated right away, and our server KAILYN's service was exceptional. She was super friendly, kept coming back to check in on us, and she made sure we got all our orders in before last call. We love coming here for sushi and highly recommend this spot!
Definitely recommend checking in early if you have a big
Definitely recommend checking in early if you have a big group as the wait time can be long. Ordering is made simple and staff are very quick to bring out orders. Food itself is good, but don't expect an omakase experience. Although seats are spaced out it can still be really loud.
So I forgot to take pictures because I was so busy eating
So I forgot to take pictures because I was so busy eating and catching up with some old friends... but I always come to Little Sakana for AYCE sushi when I'm in San Diego. It's about ~50 dollars per person so come hungry and be prepared to eat your moneys worth! We only go for nigiri and miso but you can get a lot of things (rolls, appetizers) for regular AYCE. Sashimi is extra cost. Seating is pretty quick and service is great at explaining things like how to order and the daily chefs special! They even do a little birthday thing if you let them know (a song? and a scoop of ice cream). Totally recommend if you think you can eat $50 of fish!
I tried this place a few times when I'm working in the area.
On the plus side you get a lot of variety if you do the AYCE. But the biggest problem is their fish is always not good. They seem to use low end salmon and tuna. Sometimes when I get sushi, the restaurant gets a bad batch of fish but thats pretty rare. This place always seems to have bad tasting (fishy) salmon. They try to cover it up with options that have sauces on nigiri (hot sauce) so you dont notice. I personally dont like that so I dont order it that way. The tuna is always grainy and breaks like it was frozen at the wrong temperature. Its the same issue I have when I try to freeze fish at home. My freezer isnt made for sushi. The rolls are grocery store level stuff. Not packed right most of the time (fall apart) and too much mayo and sauces with very little fish in the filling or on top. They have temperature problems with hot foods. Ordered eel, came out cold... I hate cold eel. Fried stuff has always been soggy rather than crunchy so I never order that with exception to the fries or the cream cheese filled things, but who goes to a sushi place for that stuff? The servers are usually nice but sometimes I do end up waiting a while before someone checks on me for an order. Overall they do a good job. At $30 for lunch it really isnt a good deal so I knocked it down one star. It really should be like $20 at most. I can get much better quality at $30 a meal pretty at any sushi restaurant. Its worth it if you eat a lot I suppose.
I have to say that this place is awesome.
My family (party of 11) barely made it for their AYCE last seating which was at 830pm. Once we were seated, we knew that we only had 30 min to order since last call for food was at 9pm. Our server KAILYN greeted us immediately and reminded us that last call is at 9. She didn't rush us for our orders but instead ensured that our stay was worth it. We ordered so much food and it was delish. KAILYN ensured that we got everything we ordered and came back to check on us several times, making sure that we were good to go. Thanks KAILYN for taking care of us. Highly recommend this place. Not only was the food delicious, service was amazing!!!
Little Sakana is a great choice for food and ambiance.
It's usually busy but the wait time is never too lengthy. Good food and service.
I have now had the pleasure of eating that little sakana
I have now had the pleasure of eating that little sakana three times. Twice at Mira Mesa location and once at their south Bay location. I've done all you can eat option or three times and have not been disappointed yet. The big perk is that this all you can eat is me to order and is not buffet style like a lot of other places. The servers are always very quick and extremely polite. The food comes out very quickly, which is big all you can eat as there is a two hour time limit. there's almost everything you can imagine available on they always can eat, including the, appetizers, salads, soups, rolls, regular rolls, and premium rolls. Inside of the Mira location is definitely a nicer and great for a date or a dining experience for the South Bay one is more of a casual field but they're outdoor area with heaters and a decent view is a great experience. The quality of the fish and rice is quite good and definitely will be visiting this establishment again in the future. Highly recommend this place!
Food and service are great
As a sushi lover my husband and I were very skeptical of going to all you can eat sushi restaurant. Let me tell you this place exceeded our expectations. All the rolls are freshly made for you. The variety and the quality is amazing. Canβt wait to go there again when on vacation. My mouth is watering when I think of this restaurant βΊοΈ The service is great and fast. I totally recommend this place !!!

Ask a Question |
Whose name will my reservation be under when I arrive at the venue? |
It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
