Sorry, underwhelming
So dimly lit we struggled to read the menu, which is eye wateringly expensive. Was so looking forward to this dinner with old friends but will not rush back. Masses of excellent serving staff and. Excellent skyscraper grissini with Parmesan… but the portions are tiny and the costs are sky high for average food. £25 for an under seasoned burrito did not hit the spot despite really good peas and beans and tuile. Kid goat pasta had 2 pieces of gristle in it, also under seasoned and bland. Supposedly had chilli in it, found no trace. When pointed out at the end good for them they took it off the menu but at over £40, who is happy to pay this these days, I don’t know. Really good wines. I just expected a lot more, sorry again,
Be the first to ReplyDISAPPOINTING
I went for dinner with friends on a Saturday evening, the place is nice and welcoming... but the positive things end there.... The choice of dishes is very poor... out of 6 starters 4 are salads!!! The calamarata ordered, defined as slightly al dente, was served to us practically RAW.... Even the dessert ordered, a simple tiramisu which was truly disappointing...certainly not from a restaurant among the top 15 in the world. The service was also low level, the waitress poured water for us in a really rude way and took away our plates while we were still eating...she was obviously in a hurry to go home I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT....

Another super meal matched by super service from everyone in the team. We had a lovely time, great wine recommendations, everyone was friendly and attentive, despite it being busy. Thank you.
Be the first to ReplyOnce the menu and the service have been removed, all that remains is the starry price!
We went to the Locanda full of enormous expectations which were sadly disappointed. Deciding to skip the aperitif that was offered to us to start, we immediately asked for a bottle of sparkling water and we were served a bottle of still water. Having pointed out the mistake, they apologized and brought us the requested water. Meanwhile, the basket of bread and some breadsticks have arrived. Good cheese breadsticks, but with a well-known flavour, the bread basket had a few slices of fresh bread, two pieces of very rustic facaccia and a small rosette-type sandwich which was quite biscuity and very burnt underneath. We put the sandwich on the burnt side on display hoping that the waiter would notice it and replace it for us, but, despite frequently approaching the table to fill the glasses with water, he didn't pay the slightest attention to the sandwich. The oil brought in a separate bowl, however, was really good. It's a shame that at a certain point they took it away from us without even asking. We ordered two starters: the sea bream carpaccio was good but not exceptional, while the beef tartare was not at all balanced as the flavor of the vinegar strongly covered everything else. As first courses we had a plate of tortellini and one of cappellacci with ricotta and asparagus. The tortellini broth was completely devoid of salt and tasteless, good but no wow effect on the tortellini. The asparagus that accompanied the cappellacci was good, but the filled pasta was heavy and the cream only tasted of cheese. The dessert was good (an apricot tart), but the pastry they offered was embarrassing (a mashmellow, an amaretto, a chocolate pastry with an unpresentable shape). Finally, they made a mistake on the bill by also charging the natural water that they had brought by mistake at the beginning. In conclusion I would not go back and I would not recommend it, perhaps for the English it is an excellent restaurant, but in an average Italian restaurant the food is much better.

I went to this restaurant for a birthday dinner. Very welcoming environment, very kind, friendly and knowledgeable staff. They certainly make you feel very comfortable and make you forget you are outside. The name inn fully reflects the environment sought by the staff. Wide choice for gluten-free, in fact only one starter could not be made gluten-free, for the first courses they had gluten-free pasta so you could take any first course and even for the sweet second courses the choice was vast. As soon as you sit down they bring you some gluten-free bread and breadsticks to accompany with some excellent oil. We took two first courses, a tagliatelle with goat ragù, chilli and percorino (with gluten) and a risotto with quail ragù and grana padano (gluten-free), then a kidney, lentils and puree with broccoli, garlic and chilli and finally the tasting as dessert of chocolate. I highly recommend this place for both gluten free and the restaurant overall.

Unfortunately I have to confirm the veracity of what was announced to me at the hotel. Little more than a good tourist restaurant. Disappointed expectations for the whole family. Chef Locatelli was not on site, but perhaps it was for the best. Cappellacci cold and insignificant in flavor. Lobster linguine, shameful to say the least, especially if you consider that there were only a few claws of the lobster in a rancid sauce. Tagliatelle with kid that tasted like a good ready-made sauce. At that point it wasn't worth eating anything else. The only positive notes: well-structured wine list (even if it only included Italian wines) and very friendly wait staff.
Be the first to ReplyAnother wonderful evening at this gem of a restaurant!
Another fantastic meal at this wonderful restaurant where we were treated with excellent service and superb food and wine. Our only quibble would be that our mains arrived very quickly after our starters, we would have liked a 15-20 minute break but they arrived as they were clearing our starter plates which was too fast. Other than that though supreme perfection!

My partner and I chose Locanda Locatelli for our anniversary dinner, but sadly, it left much to be desired. The service was warm and accommodating and the environment was pleasant with tasteful decor. The homemade bread and breadsticks were delightful. Special commendation to the sommelier for suggesting an excellent wine, albeit at a steep price. However, the positives end there. For a Michelin-starred restaurant, the attention to detail was lacking: cheap cutlery, subpar table settings, and cramped seating arrangements. Maneuvering around our table felt like solving a puzzle, and the close proximity to neighboring tables was discomforting. The term "locanda" suggests an inn-like atmosphere, but the prices certainly did not reflect that. Therefore, I would expect to be able to sit down and get up without the waiter having to reposition the table every time. Turning to the food, it fell short of expectations and value for money. At any restaurant in Italy you can enjoy a similar dining experience for a fraction of the price. Our appetizer, "Carpaccio di orata, ribes nero, pastinaca e limone bruciato," failed to deliver the promised flavors of currants and burnt lemon, presenting instead a bland sea bream carpaccio. The main courses, "Linguine all'astice" and "Risotto al ragù di quaglia e Grana Padano," were passable but forgettable. The linguine lacked a satisfactory amount of lobster. The risotto, advertised with "quail ragout," was a slightly overcooked tomato risotto with two bites of quail as garnish. Our main courses, "Guancia di manzo brasata al Biferno e cacao, verdure di stagione" and "Pollo arrosto al limone, purea di patate, zucchine scapece, peperoncino," were satisfactory but failed to impress. The beef cheek lacked the anticipated hint of cocoa and although the roasted chicken portion was generous, it was very dry and served with a rather basic side dish. Disheartened by our dining experience, we skipped dessert, settled the hefty GBP 400 bill, and left never to return. Too bad we could not even meet the chef, who was not on-site.

Have been looking forward to trying this place for a while but sadly it just didn’t deliver. The food was ok but really nothing special. Service was efficient but really lacked the personal touch. Would not bother going back.

A bread basket with a great variety that would feed 10, Superb pasta, Unbelievable flavour in the lemon chicken, and my God the Cannoli to finish were awesome. Only real complaint is the wine list is extensive and confusing, I didn’t know whether I was paying £40 for a glass, half a bottle or a bottle ! Overall great experience , yes prices are high but it’s a Michelin Star restaurant that is always rammed so they are doing something right 👍
Be the first to ReplyLocanda Locatelli: A Great Dining Experience, But Some Room for Improvement
Locanda Locatelli is a one Michelin star Italian restaurant located in Marylebone, and it's a fantastic place to dine in. The first impression of the restaurant is excellent, as you are greeted by a modern reception area with the Michelin sign. The staff takes your coats, and you are led straight to your table. While you are deciding on your food, the restaurant offers a bread basket that is made in-house and tastes super delicious. However, there is no bread plate provided, leaving crumbs on the table throughout the meal, which may not be to everyone's liking. One of the drawbacks of the restaurant is that the staff does not ask about dietary requirements or allergies. This can be problematic for guests who have specific dietary needs or restrictions. It's essential to communicate your requirements to the staff beforehand to ensure that they can accommodate your needs. The restaurant offers an extensive range of Italian wines, which is perfect for wine enthusiasts. Although the staff pour the wine for you initially, they may forget to refill it, which can be disappointing. Guests may have to choose between sitting with an empty glass for 20 minutes or pouring the wine themselves. The starters are delicious, with good serving exposition, but some plates may have finger marks on them, which is not ideal. The mains are tasty, with a well-cooked steak that has a lot of spices. While the spices add flavour to the meat, some guests may find that it overpowers the taste of the meat itself. The pasta with octopus is quite salty, but the sauce is full of flavour and thick, and the pasta is cooked well. The side dish of potatoes lacks presentation and is full of oil, which may come as a surprise to some guests. However, the dinner ends with complementary candies with the bill, which is a nice touch. Overall, Locanda Locatelli is a good restaurant with some minor drawbacks. The food is enjoyable, and the service is friendly, but there are some improvements that the restaurant could make to enhance the dining experience. Nata Miles

The restaurant is a well recognized fine dining Italian restaurant in London. It deserves its reputation. It is well appointed. More importantly the service was superb—very polite and attentive, without being overbearing. Wine steward did not push high end wines. We thought the food was excellent. I began with tortellini in brodo which I was quite prepared to compare my mother’s. It was different, but very good. I followed with the fegato, which was done very nicely in a great sauce. A tasty spinach accompanied our main dishes. The breads were nice. For dolci we had a selection of cheeses accompanied by a nice vin santo. Afterwards were treated to a plate of sweets. I thought the price/quality ratio was reasonable.

We were a party of 6 and were blown away with top class service, topped up with 4 wonderful wines and free chilled tap water at no charge. We chose mainly the vegan/vegetarian options and were extremely happy with the choice and with what we had to eat, the Monk's Beard being a great hit as was the risotto. To be greeted in such a friendly way in such a busy restaurant and to start off with home made bread and verdant Sicilian olive oil was a fantastic ice-breaker.
Be the first to Replynot worth it
as for the food, we were not satisfied. Our main course was pasta all astice but all we could find on our plate were a few very small pieces of lobster. This was not at all worth the price not even worth te name pasta all astice.A better name would have been pasta with tomatoes. As we reserved a table an month in advance, we requested a table at the window, but we were seated next to the kitchen what was not at all relaxed. And also the service was not friendly, only when we ordered our food and wine they were friendly, from then on they rushed by. We booked a room in the Hyatt with this restaurant in mind, so we were very disapointed.
Be the first to ReplyCan things be too slick?
Having read Giorgio Locatelli's last two books and agreed with almost everything I read it was with great delight that my wife and I booked a table at Locanda Locatelli. The service was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly and the food terrific. I have to say I really really enjoyed the olive oil (as someone who produces their own its difficult to say this was better). Amongst all this perfection though something was missing - I think that it is just too slick and a bit corporate.

Giorgio Locatelli has been producing fine Italian cuisine in London for nearly 2 decades. Our visit confirms he has not lost a step. The food is excellent and the service attentive. You will not be disappointed dining here.

Delicious food and excellent service. We sat outside the restaurant and the waiting staff were very attentive and polite. Food was incredible.
Be the first to ReplyUpmarket atmosphere, good food but service not quite there
The atmosphere and the prices mean that expectations are set very high. The food was indeed very good. The service was OK, but not quite up to the expected level.

Waiter give first menu card to me than to women (small details, which make the difference between an Osteria and a place) Table was trembling and waiter intervetion helped a bit but did not fix it. No alternative table offered, despite plenty free. Aperitive was a Martini Watermelon Vodka cocktail. No chance to sense the Watermelon as vodka was more than half of the drink and no sugar made it sour Grissini with parmigiano were black and totally burned Antipasti Gamberi of Mazzara were ok, but why were the peperoni bitter in it? Killed an otherwise good dish First dishes Dish served (gnocchi al pecorino) was cold. Informed the waiter. No change of dish, put in bill full at the end. Ask for the pecorino, waiter said it is just a bit for the taste, but gnocchi were swimming in pecorino sauce. Not ideal for a lactose intolerance. So we ordered another first dish: Astice with linguine. Astice with linguine was burned (garlic was overfried) and 2 shell of astice were still in the dish. The black burned garlic was not giving to the tast of astice any change to surface. Peperoni in it were bitter like hell The pasta al capretto was a dream. Really outstanding. A round 10 out of 10. The maialino in something, waiter told us to be small, delicate and light. It was a bloody 3 pork belly piece of some 300Kg fat pig with a crust of 3cm. Maialino means small pig in italian. This dish was fattyover any possible reason and measure. You get far better one in a cheap China restaurant and far less fatty Animelle dish were OK, but not an experience. Just ok. Somelier was excellent, and patched with a couple of good recommendations the evening.

This was my second visit to Locatelli, having previously enjoyed a meal a couple of years ago. It was exactly as I remember it - superb. There’s nothing to fault, the food, service, decor, drinks, ambience, staff… all superb. My GF had “Pasta parcels filled with braised veal, butter & sage” followed by “Slow cooked suckling pig, mashed potatoes, caramelised Granny Smith apple, almond sauce”. Presentation and tasting was perfection. I wish I could upload pictures but the trip advisor app isn’t playing ball. I had “Ring shaped pasta, red gurnard, tomato, black olives, chilli, almonds” followed by “Roasted sea bream, wild chicory with garlic and chilli, "Bagna Cauda" Again, faultless. Of course we had a tasting of each other’s dishes and loved them. We shared a dessert “Strawberry soufflé, mascarpone and digestive biscuit ice cream” which was just sublime. All was washed down with a 2015 chianti. A perfect evening.

From start to finish this was a great experience.
We were welcomed for our reservation with a lovely italian greeting which brought my wife and I back to our honeymoon in Amalfi. Once seated the service continued to be great.
The breadsticks and bread basket are incredible and I highly recommend the Giorgio's Negroni to start for a drink. My wife is pregnant and there was a large Mocktails list which she was excited about.
The fried zucchini, goat cheese salad, tortellini in broth were all delicious. I forget what my wife had admittedly.
I read many reviews about the service being snobby which was a concern going in but we did not experience that at all. They were welcoming, friendly, and we shared many laughs with different servers throughout.
This is truly a Michelin star experience.
Very disappointing
I went there with my family to celebrate my son's graduation at Oxford's. I thought it would be a marvellous evening with great food, how wrong I was, how disappointed.
The food was not so good, nothing was special even the dessert which I generally like: I took the choice of chocolates but everything tasted the same...Anyway the worst of all was the main course, the meat was full of fat and over-cooked. I ate a little but then I couldn't go on so I told the maitre but his answer was very disappointing. He said that the English meat is not the Italian one so we have to be content with it ( in a restaurant with one Michelin star???). He even doubted my word, he said I had eaten part of it so probably that part was good...He laughed at me and he made fun of me in front of my family and the staff , I felt so ashamed.
We ate in other London restaurants were the meat was very tender well cooked and not fat at all!!!
The bill was very expensive but I expected that what I didn't expect it was to have such a bad experience.
Don't come here to party; come here for a refined eating experience
t’s hard to understand why people take things so personally nowadays ; the idea that this restaurant should have a raucous atmosphere means one has missed the point . This is a high quality subdued Michelin star restaurant with outstanding food and staff that have a deep knowledge of their craft - putting the right things together for the palette . We have enjoyed our food immensely and the whole experience - we relaxed and found the ambiance very suited to us in order to enjoy the tastes and varieties on our plates . We liked the service which was very unobtrusive and professional . I would not go to this abode if I wanted a party but I would recommend it for anyone searching for a relaxed and wonderful eating experience
Be the first to ReplySnobby and miserable waiting staff
Keeping this short. Waiter argued with our wine preferences and belittled us with our choices. I don't want to be judged when I dine out.
Shame as I always wanted to eat here.
Miserable staff overall. Stuffy atmosphere generally. No fun, smiles, interaction. Dull as dishwater. Out of touch. Wish I'd spent my money elsewhere.
