lucali Broadway Brooklyn Reviews from The Last Year
Best pizza in NY and it's not even up for debate.
There's a reason why Lucali start taking reservations at 4pm each day for 5pm opening but just to be safe, be on line by 3pm because it's already 40 people deep. This Cash only BYOB is truly that special. You will know upon the first bite of that glorious pizza made from the best ingredients possible.
Was it good? Absolutely.
Was it overhyped? I would say it was. This is a pizza good for who enjoy the pure flavor of the tomato sauce and cheese. Excellent balance acidity and cheesiness. I would give a big credit to the four different cheese given on top. Each of them provided an extra layer of flavor. Even without the papperoni, it was a flavor bomb. However, $40(w/ pepperoni) was a little bit steep. Moreover, I had to be in line for an hour to order for takeout and wait for another three hour to get the pizza. I would not say it was worth it, since there are more excellent pizza joint in the city without waiting. Be sure to be there before 4:00 to ensure a table. If it was raining day, you can ask for take out and enjoy them at the outdoor tables(there is cover).

What really makes this place so good is how simple the pizza is. It is so simple that it becomes amazing! Its simplicity allows all the flavors from the ingredients to really pop. It's a thin dough, airy and crispy. The tomato sauce it's perfectly balanced. The cheese blend is a harmonious combination of saltiness, acidity and sweetness. I highly recommend it and will definitely come back.

Some of the best pizza in NYC, which is obviously really saying something. Lucali was founded by American pizzaiolo Mark Iacono in 2006. The unpretentious yet elegant restaurant serves pizza, calzones, and that's it. Beer and wine are BYOB if you decide to dine in. No delivery, cash only. If you intend to eat here, plan ahead, and be prepared to wait a while. I called to place a pickup order at 5:30pm on a Wednesday, and was told that the soonest my order could be ready was 8:30pm. I accepted, and arrived to Lucali promptly at the quoted time. The friendly hostess took my payment, and presented me with a (massive) large pizza. The pizza was nothing short of incredible. My husband wanted pepperoni, so we got that along with mushrooms and shallots. The wood fired crust was thin, but structured enough to support the flavorful layer of cheese and ample toppings. Every bite was memorable. Definitely worth the hype.

Really enjoyed the 'za at Lucali.
Best ever? Depends on your taste. I'd place it on par with Song e Napule in Manhattan or Juliana's in Dumbo. It was amazing how fast it came out after ordering. BYOB with no corkage fees. Cash only. Fine 70s soul tracks on the sound system. The pies are pricey. Not sure what keeps them from accepting credit cards.

Lucali is a stand-out pizza joint in NYC! Due to its popularity, you can only make reservations the day-of for dine-in or take-out (if you're lucky!). People line up an hour before they begin taking reservations for the day, so I recommend planning your day accordingly. I ordered a Pepperoni to-go and arrived on the dot at my reservation time. The staff was friendly and the service was fast! This was hands-down one of the best pizzas I've had. Also, they're VERY generous with their basil which elevated the pizza even more. All in all, highly recommend stopping by whether you're a hungry tourist or a local looking for a new dinner spot.
The pursuit of the perfect pizza is a journey many
The pursuit of the perfect pizza is a journey many undertake, and it seems you've found a slice of heaven in the form of a margarita pizza that has surpassed all expectations. The anticipation that builds during the wait, often a deterrent for many, in this case, adds to the overall experience, culminating in a taste that is described as extraordinary. For a pizza connoisseur, such an experience is not just about satisfying hunger, but about savoring a culinary masterpiece where the freshness of the ingredients, the perfect balance of flavors, and the precise cooking technique come together to create something truly memorable. In a world brimming with countless pizzerias, each claiming to have the best offering, it's a testament to the quality of this establishment that it stands out from the rest. It's not just the taste, but the entire experience that seems to have left an indelible mark on your palate. The margarita pizza, a simple yet classic choice, often serves as a benchmark to measure a pizzeria's prowess. The fact that this particular pizza impressed you speaks volumes about the craftsmanship and care put into its creation. The joy of discovering such a gem is something many seek but few find. It's a reminder that sometimes, the hype is not just noise but a beacon guiding the culinary adventurers to their next great find. In your case, the journey led to a pizza that didn't just meet the lofty expectations set by the hype but exceeded them, delivering not just a meal but an experience to be cherished. It's these moments that remind us that food is more than sustenance; it's an art, an experience, and a story worth telling.

One of the best pizzas in NYC! First please note that if you want to book a reservation you have to stand on line the same day at around 2-3pm. And it's a first come first serve basis. I've been told that there are people that will stand on line and make a reservation for you at a fee. The ambience is rustic and intimate but the restaurant is small so it can be a little loud. Also please note that you have to bring your own beverages.. they only serve water. We brought wine and a bottle of seltzer water. Also it's CASH ONLY. Now to the pizza and calzones, the menu is small in terms of toppings. However their pizza crust is light and airy and amazing. The sauce is delicious and the toppings are fresh and all three combined makes for a incredibly delicious pizza. Also their calzones are great and they serve them with a ample amount of marinara sauce. The service is great and the chefs are very friendly and approachable. There is a tip jar up front for the pizza makers. I also noticed that a lot of people were picking up orders. All in all a 10 out of 10.

Pizza was 10/10, service was 5/10, ambiance 9/10, BYOB 10/10. Came here on a Wednesday evening and was able to get a table for 8pm after waiting on line around 3:30pm same day. Lucali is definitely worth the hype - the pizza is delicious and the fresh basil is such a nice touch. Also, had a small calzone and it was out of this World. Service was definitely not warm and fuzzy - felt a little uncomfortable when asking for anything from the waitress so took a star away for that but otherwise a NYC staple.

I'm genuinely sad for those who give Lucali a less-than-stellar review because of the wait times. It's an easier process than a lot of what people are saying. And it's implemented, I'm sure, to reduce the number of no-shows and canceled reservations. I got there with my wife a few minutes after 4pm, which is when they started taking names. There was a decent sized line when we got there, but as we waited, there was no one behind us by the time we put our names down. They give you a choice for what time you'd like to come in, so we said 5pm (which is when it opens). We spent the next ~40 minutes getting cash (place is cash only), a bottle of wine (it's BYOB here), and just briefly exploring the area. At 5pm we were promptly seated. Our server was very nice and everything was done well. The menu is brief - an 18" pie, a small calzone, and a large calzone. They also had a special pasta dish available, but we opted for the pizza and a small calzone. Plenty of food for 2 people; we could've done without the calzone, but it was delicious. The pizza of course is the star of the show. Excellent crust, all the ingredients were very fresh. The technique of putting a scattering of breadcrumbs under the pie creates an extra crispy crust. It feels like thin-crust but is nonetheless filling like pizza should be. We got pepperoni as a topping and it was an excellent complement. The only thing I could ding this place for is that they might've forgotten our calzone order. We finished our pizza, and our server asked if we were done. She was apologetic, and the calzone came out shortly after. This was also excellent. A lot of delicious ricotta inside, and the sauce and a couple leaves of basil comes on the side. Not cheap but considering it's BYOB you can still make this a somewhat-affordable date night. Pizza is $32, I think. Prices on the menu on the website. Officially felt like a Brooklynite after eating here! Would definitely come back.
Delicious pizza.
Perfect crust, a ton of basil and the right amount of flavor in the sauce and cheese, one of the best margarita slices in NYC.

Guy brought me here on a date and I'm now legally obligated to marry him because it was that good. It just the perfect pizza and calzone, I really couldn't fault anything they had. We got way too much and it was still delicious reheated. Half reg za and half pepperoni and hot peppers. Get the calzone with garlic. If they have a pasta special get it.
Father’s day dins
First time here and finally got a table! Our family of 9 had an early dinner here and ordered a few pies. All brought in timely manner, tasted great and the service was good too! We ate outdoors because it was nice weather.
Pizzeria to avoid
1 bad pizza Slow and unpleasant service, we wait for hours to enter, very poorly managed. Poor reservation system, Cash payment required! True New York snobbery
