The pizza pies are super amazing, no doubt the hype, but I had to wait almost 3 hours in a queue, that was a bit too much to wait for a pie is what I personally
Be the first to ReplyDelicious pizza.
Perfect crust, a ton of basil and the right amount of flavor in the sauce and cheese, one of the best margarita slices in NYC.

Guy brought me here on a date and I'm now legally obligated to marry him because it was that good. It just the perfect pizza and calzone, I really couldn't fault anything they had. We got way too much and it was still delicious reheated. Half reg za and half pepperoni and hot peppers. Get the calzone with garlic. If they have a pasta special get it.

Don't love the wait and miss when the neighborhood could order take out, but it really is that good.

I got takeout and this is some of the best pizza I've ever had. I had the pepperoni and basil. Worth every penny.
Be the first to ReplyIs Lucali good pizza? Absolutely.
Is it worth the hours you'll have to wait in order to secure a table? Debatable. Maybe I'd feel different if I weren't the one who had to wait to score a table, but the job fell to me. I arrived at around 3:30 pm on a weekday and was delighted to be the first person in line. At first I thought I was aggressively early for this, but within around 10 minutes there were a total of eight people who had lined up behind me - one of which was a TaskRabbit being paid to stand on this line which, honestly I might consider doing if I were ever to come back to Lucali. By 4:15 the line was wrapped around the block. A little after 5 pm, the hostess came out and asked what time I'd like to be seated. I asked for 7, which again, if I were to redo this day all over, I would've been ready to eat at 5 to cut down on how many hours of my day were spent waiting to eat pizza. I went to a nearby bar to grab a drink and wait for my partner to arrive. I picked up a few bottles of wine to have with the pizza (It's BYOB), but we only got through one of them due to how fast this place turns over tables. There's only two options on this menu - a calzone and a pizza. We got one of each without toppings. Again, the food is good, don't get me wrong. It's just not mind blowing enough for me to spend four hours waiting to eat it. The interior is cozy and it's pretty cool to see the pizza being made a few feet from your table. But I don't know, I think it's kind of over hyped.
Be the first to ReplyLucali is a old school traditional casual style restaurant.
Perfect to go with family and friends. Although it is very hard to make a reservation it is totally worth the wait. If you are a smaller party you are more likely to get in. There is no menu everything is pizza and calzone. You can choose multiple toppings for your pizza/calzone. the service is very very fast and friendly. would 100% recommend coming here.
Be the first to ReplyFinally able to eat at this renowned pizzeria.
Arrived at 3:45 pm and was about 10th in line. They started taking names for reservations at 4:15 pm. Able to get a table for 2 right at 5 pm. Had a nice table for 2 along the wall. It's a very small restaurant with an impressive pizza oven in the back. You get 1 hour at the table. They have a limited menu so it pays to order immediately upon arrival. We split a large pizza which was absolutely delicious. The basil was so tasty. The pizza was nice and crispy. Definitely among my top pizzas. Since we've waited so long for the reservation we also ordered the calzone. In hindsight the small would have been sufficient. The base calzone has cheese, we added pepper. It was very tasty and the sauce provided was more than enough, you do not need extra sauce. Also note it was byob so bring something fun to have with dinner. Lastly, service is fine, nothing spectacular. The food makes up for it.

Nothing more I can say #1 spot in NYC nuff said , wait time is gonna be forever but let's be honest people wait forever for crappy food so just wait and get the best .

With a family of three, we made our first visit to this pizzeria. The excitement of the crowd that gathered around the restaurant prior to opening was infectious. It was an incredible experience to try the entire menu that consisted of a pasta dish, pizza with various toppings and a large cheese calzone. My mantra is that freshly baked pasta, especially pizzas and calzones must be eaten immediately. The service was very simple, easy and fast. You should know what you want before you are seated. Bringing your favorite vino adds to your experience. An hour is not enough for me to eat and enjoy the atmosphere and evening with family! Can't wait till the next time!

I recently visited Lucali, and while I had high hopes for the pizza, I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed with the flavor. Don't get me wrong, the texture was great, but the taste just didn't quite hit the mark for me.However, the calzone was a different story! It was delicious, and I would definitely go back just for that. The wait was a bit long, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to make it back anytime soon, but if I do, it'll be for that calzone. The ambiance at Lucali was truly amazing, especially sitting outdoors in the summertime. It made for an awesome experience that really added to the overall vibe of the restaurant. If you don't want to deal with the long wait, I highly recommend ordering takeout. We did that the second time around and it was a great way to still enjoy the food without the hassle of waiting in line.Overall, while the pizza didn't quite live up to the hype, I still find myself wanting to go back, and I don't know why.
Be the first to ReplySimply the world's best pizza.
Every bit tastes like a miracle. It's not the dough, the cheese or the sauce that makes it special. It's everything, just a perfect combination.
Be the first to ReplyFor starters, this was the best pizza I've ever had.
HOWEVER. Compared to my previous favorites, Lucali didn't blow my mind and subvert my expectations of pizza like everyone said it would. Yes, this is the best pizza I've had, but only slightly, and when you consider the ridiculousness associated with the shop (Carroll Street is pretty isolated, you have wait for hours and whore yourself for a reservation, the pizzas START AT $32, etc), I wouldn't go again.
Be the first to ReplyGot here on a Friday afternoon with my boyfriend at 3:10 pm.
The line had about ~20 people when we got there but when we got to the front of the line we were able to choose our reservation time at a reasonable time. The food itself is definitely worth the hype but I honestly thought the calzone may have been more of a showstopper to me compared to the pizza. I enjoyed the pizza of course, but it was great to have the calzone too. Definitely recommend. This is also BYOB, so we brought a bottle of wine and the servers were friendly. It is a small restaurant so be cautious that you may get bumped by the workers going through the different tables but overall it didn't interfere with my boyfriend and I's date night at a really good restaurant!

It all starts with waiting in line starting around 2:30/3 and then putting names down starting at 4:15ish, so not anything ridiculous but definitely plan if you are hoping to come here. The staff was very friendly and provided prompt service. The ambiance indoors was great and the pizza, well you've gotta try it to realize how good it really is. The crust is amazing with extremely fresh tasting ingredients topping it off. You can tell that despite the pizza being quite simple with a limited selection of toppings, it is of very high quality, from the tomatoes to the flour and cheese, you can taste the care taken into making each pie. Even the calzones were amazing with a the perfect filling and a crust that was crisp and not even in the slightest but soggy. Would highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyCame here today (Sunday) and got in line by 3:30 pm.
There were about 15 people ahead of us. Waited till like 4:15-4:30 p.m. and then a pleasant woman started taking names, numbers and time requests. They do it by the hour starting at 5pm, and we were lucky enough to get our table for 4 for 5pm since we were all already starving. You are given a brief disclaimer that it's cash only and byob, then it's adios till game time. You come back and the woman at the door starts calling you by name and telling you where to sit. As soon as you are seated service is fast and the food is as well ! There is already tap water on the table but you can of course whip out all of the drinks you brought as well to start chugging right away. For my family of 4 we ordered 1 plain, and 1 with half mushroom/ half green peppers. We also tried 1 small calzone ( fyi, small is huge and good enough ) . Now to why it's the BEST PIZZA IN NYC: It comes out piping hot- 1 pie at a time. That ensures that each bite is fresh out of the oven. The pizza is the PERFECT thickness. It's slightly crisp, with sauce and cheese oozing. Careful not to burn your mouth- it's that hot. The flavors are bursting and if you've never truly appreciated basil- these pies will blow your mind to smithereens. I don't think I can eat a plain slice without fresh basil after tonight. The calzone was the last to come but it was no joke either. We opted for a garlic filling and I could taste it in every bite. The marinara and freshly grated cheese on the side was a nice touch. I'm not a huge fan of riccota but if you are then you shouldn't skip it. All in all the whole experience went by like a blur. I wish I could go back in time to right before the first pie came out and I took a swig of my ice cold beer. Of course the celebrity nods don't hurt ( Beckham, Jay-Z and Beyonce ) but fluff aside the pizza is just that freaking good. Just like you, I read all the reviews I could and have come to the conclusion that if you didn't like the pizza/experience( i.e the negative reviews ), then there is something wrong with YOU.

I recently visited Lucali for pizza on a Monday night and was so glad to get a Resy reservation, so I didn't have to wait the rumored 3 hours in line! The ambiance was really nice, and you can see the pizza being made. We got a margherita pizza with garlic topping and it was really good. The tomato flavor was stronger than the cheese which I really appreciated and you could immediately tell this was high quality stuff. And the garlic and basil hit strong. The crust was a bit hard, making it hard to eat, so I left a lot of it. One pizza was enough for two people, so that's a plus! Plus, the BYOB policy is awesome, more restaurants should do it. The one thing I didn't understand was why they didn't cut the stems off the basil leaves. I tried a bit of the calzone from another party and it was also very good, but you need to dip it in the sauce. I think overall, Lucali is a top tier pizza in NYC, but it's not worth waiting 3 hours for. Plus, you can say you went to the same spot as Jay Z! 5/5 stars!

Amazing! Best pizza ever!! We've been here 2 times now and it will continue to be a go to place when we visit NYC.
Be the first to ReplyTreated poorly at the door.
I wouldn't recommend the hike here if you're only having a few days to spend in New York. There are dozens of better pizza places in the city that provide a better experience without the attitude.

Their pizzas are one of a kind! Didn't have to wait too long. The calzones are known to be awesome too but I didn't get to try them.

Besides the regular complaining about the wait they also were serving VIP tables with salad pasta and meatballs . The owner wants to make sure to talk to everyone it's pretty bizarre . It's not worth your time the pizza is fine there are many other places to go to that have better pizza just do your research. Also they make sure to tell you your taking to much time it's silly . I am a native New Yorker and I have to say this is bs ! Really for tourists !
Be the first to ReplyThe true underdog of the night was the calzone! In addition
The true underdog of the night was the calzone! In addition to two pizzas, we ordered two large calzones for a group of 8 - a mushroom, pepperoni and artichoke, shallot calzones. I liked the artichoke one and the tomato sauce and large, fresh basil leaves take it over the top for THE Perfect bite. With BYOB and large portions to share, our party thoroughly enjoyed the meal, leaving full and satisfied and having only paid ~$25 per person including tip and tax.

CASH only, which is an odd business model nowadays, where it's more and more cash less. It's also nowhere written on their google maps place, which would be great to know, before your visit.I'm a real pizza lover, especially the neapolitan style pizza and because of the hype about this place I was really curious to have one of these. The prices are pretty high for a pizza, 32$ but if it's really that good, maybe it's worth it and give it a try?Unfortunately they closed the shop on Thursday, without updating their google maps place, there was just a board inside their shop, that it's closed today and see you tomorrow again.Which is funny because, if you're not from this area, you want see this board until you spend an hour to reach this place. That's an absolutely no go if you run a business like that!Second day, second try and the board outside says it's cash only no credit cards, so no cash no pizza. If you still want to visit this pizza shop, try to be there early, I went there 8 minutes after they have opened up and it was already packed so you have to wait for a free table. People in line before where told 1 table 1 hour time.
Be the first to ReplyCute place with awesome pizza.
It's just a pain to go there on weekends especially, long lines and too crowded.

Wait wasn't big deal, got there at 3:45, put name in at 4:15 for 5pm seating. Took stroll around the block, grabbed a bottle of wine, headed back to restaurant, then had an amazing two course pizza/calzone meal. Super cool wait staff
