The lighting on the rooftop was funky and when you take pictures of the food, it looks washed out. The music was too loud.
Be the first to ReplyA very interesting fusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine.
As a vegetarian, there were a lot of options available to me. The miso eggplant and cauliflower tempura appetizers were so delicious! The mixture of umami flavors surprised me and left me wanting more. The green sauce they used in a lot of the dishes was amazing - like jalapeño cilantro based with something more. The "eat your veggies" was my favorite. I love that it features okra on it. It took a bit longer to get our food, but the wait was worth it. The music was too loud, but after a while we were able to block it out.

I don't know what was off the night you were there but Lumi is amazing! The food is terrific, the service is impeccable and the vibe is just off the charts! We came for a late dinner after our flight was delayed, and they couldn't have been more welcoming! Pearl and Lucas were stand outs. The atmosphere was fun and chill, great music. We sat outside and we were more than warm with the heaters going (we took out jackets off!!!) We ordered the special Box which had 9 types of Sashimi, beautifully presented in dry ice, a bit of flair and absolutely delicious. It's a fair price too, $50 per person, and each person got 9 pieces. It was one of the yummiest sashimi plates I've ever eaten! The sashimi pizza is definitely a not miss and we had the Surf and turf roll which was the perfect ending to the meal. We were satisfied but not over stuffed. (The menu looked so good that we could have easily ordered a bunch of other things!!!) The cocktails were beautiful and delicious, you MUST try the slushie!!!! We didn't have dessert, they have 2 options but honestly the roll was a good instead of dessert compromise. I would come back here in a heartbeat and I hope that my review jumps the ranking up to where it deserves to be! I only wish we had places like this in the SF Bay area!!!

Food was exceptional! Service was good, only knock is that they required a 20% gratuity and they add an additional 5% service charge "for healthcare" I personally don't like that because all in all that's an extra 25% on top of your bill that is already pricey as it is. I'd rather have them just charge more lol. But overall positive experience and great quality!
Be the first to ReplyI ordered 4 dishes.
I would not have assumed from looking at reviews that I would still be hungry after that! But everything was very small portions. The eggplant skewer was delicious. Thinly sliced eggplant, fire grilled, and doused in a sweet but salty miso sauce. You get two skewers with about 2-3 bites on each skewer. The charred yellowtail roll was also very good. The miso soup was a bit too salty - I just wanted to heat up a bit since the seating is outdoors! They do have heaters that they can put near you which helps. The pizza was my biggest disappointment because EVERYONE on here has hyped it up, along with the servers. I don't get the hype at all. The crust is a super thin fried flour tortilla, which was a miss for me. The tuna was super thinly sliced and tender, but tasted a bit too fishy to me. It was missing some avocado and perhaps a bit more substance. For $32 I expect it to at least be a substantial appetizer! Service was top notch, servers constantly clearing, refilling water, and friendly. Nice view and atmosphere. But for $100 to not be full...not sure I'd return. FYI I don't know how often this happens but their elevator is out of service and you do need to walk up 4 flights of stairs to get there.
Be the first to ReplyThe sushi had a strange aftertaste.
The ambiance was nice and the service was good however, I would not come back for their rolls

They make up how long the wait will be when checking in late. Very weird. Told 10min wait, checked back in to the tune "it might be another 30 to an hour I can't tell you exactly"

Darby was great! The food was amazing but her drink recommendations were fire! Highly recommended for date night no worries about the quality!

My favorite restaurant in all of San Diego and I've lived here 25yrs. I think that says it all. The staff is so friendly! And the place is beautiful. I always sit at the fire pits. I go with my best friend but I also went with my family for my bday this yr,
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful rooftop bar with live DJ playing house music.
The truffle pizza is delicious but super small (snack-sized, for one person-small). The service is not the best. We were told by the hostesses downstairs there was space for a party of two at the bar. We headed up. There was no space at the bar. There were plenty of empty tables-I'm talking more than five empty tables, and they told us they couldn't seat us. We made a reservation via Open Table on the spot (reservation at 9:30PM), and they still made us wait past 9:40PM to sit us because they were looking for menus. -.- They could have just sat us, and then looked for the menus. The sushi rolls are hit or miss.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food, beverages, and service.
Stacey and Andres were so on point in providing us everything we could ever need in our dining experience and helped us have the best time possible. Special shout out to them for making this such a great night out

Lumi is a delicious, fresh and fun vibed eatery in gorgeous downtown san diego. From Taking the inviting elevator up to the third floor, to the amazing dishes we enjoyed, you are in for a treat! The tempura fried shrimp was light, airy and extremely flavorful atop a delectable aioli sauce. a must try is the wagyu nigiri. This meat literally melts in your mouth topped with the thinnest pieces of ginger and a perfect spice wasabi. My veggie roll was so beyond perfect and clean tasting. The service.. this is why i am giving it a four star. When we arrived upstairs, we were barely greeted, the nice young man was repeating that he's having tablet issues. after about 5 min, he takes us to a table right next to the chefs preparing culinary greatness. A server came over and poured us water that was warm. I should have asked for ice or the water should have been ice cold. Our amazing server ( i wish i remembered her name!) came over and took our order and was absolutely delightful. Then a different male server comes over and started pouring water into our just filled and full glasses and walks away. The two servers , one male one female who brought us our food.. awful. The female tossed my dish , my order of shrimp in front of my husband. No words , literally tosses it on the table. The male server who brought food was a bit clueless and just slid the dishes on the table and walked away. Odd. The food and atmosphere are wonderful. The servers need some lessons in manners except our kick ass person who took our order.

Once upon a time Lumi was only open for dinner! Now your brunch options downtown have just expanded. Complete with a stellar DJ spinning tunes from the 70s to the present, a delicious menu with an awesome Japanese "pancake" and outstanding guacamole brioche toast is waiting for you. We also had the yellowtail sushi whose flavors exploded in your mouth. We loved the signature cocktails, and Ziya, our server, was most knowledgeable and attentive. To complete the decadent meal, we closed out with a most unique chocolate dessert in the shape of a cigar. Yummm! We can't wait to return!
Be the first to ReplyNo justification for coming here again.
.. Took my girlfriend here for her 21st birthday. The good: ambiance was nice on the rooftop, we were seated next to the kitchen that you can see in. Not too cold until the half end of the dinner. The okay: service was okay. Our server was nice, but we weren't greeted or anything until 10 or more minutes after seating, and we were about to leave to go to another restaurant, but then our server came. The bad: I have to say this place was painfully "not worth your money." This was the first time I've ever requested to speak to the chef due to bad food. The executive chef and the 2nd in command chef were both gone, so I had to talk to the who I assume was the manager. I had told her the chicken karage was basically the worst chicken I've ever had, which is not a hyperbole or exaggeration. It was semi crunchy, EXTREMELY BLAND - and when I say bland I mean there is no taste at all, no salt or seasoning to be found within a ten mile radius, no chicken taste. It came with a sauce that you can spot in my pictures, but the sauce was "alright" and there was so little of it compared to the chicken and even when pairing the two it could not save it. I tried dipping it in the soy sauce and the chicken just tasted like pure soy sauce. It was irredeemable. Thankfully at the end of service when talking to the manager she comped it. She was very nice and understanding, and told us that she agreed that it was lacking flavor. After the chicken we were scared to waste more money so we decided to get the chef's choice which included more food and just leave to get food after. The chef's choice also found in my pictures was ONE HUNDRED THIRTY FIVE DOLLARS. It was enough food to split between two people as a small meal or snack even. The roll had an off putting sourness to it that cut through the tasting of other ingredients. The other pieces were fine, but it wasn't anything mind blowing. The quality was fine. Compared to how much it would cost at any other regular sushi place which is more or less 65 dollars, it was a total rip off. The price also wasn't listed on the menu. The sushi did not justify the price at all. The bill with the karage, sake flight, and the chef's choice sushi combination with a 20 dollar tip came out to 202 dollars (with 10 dollars taken off from the comped chicken). The rolls were over 30 dollars after tax so we got the chef's choice in the assumption it would be less expensive as you're ordering more food, but I was wrong, for the price of that I could've just gotten four rolls and had more food. My jaw honestly dropped when I saw the bill. Half the rolls also had asparagus which my girlfriend doesn't like so there was not much to pick from. I've had two experiences that made me vow to not go to resteraunt archetypes again Puesto - a "elevated" Mexican restaurant that basically was overpriced white washed mexican food that gave me the epiphany to never go to expensive Mexican because the food will be overpriced garbage And This place, Luma, I won't be going to an expensive sushi/japanese restaurant for a long time. Not worth your time or money. All you can eat sushi is infinitely a better choice. Also learned that having a Michelin star chef making the menu doesn't mean it will be good. That's also a let down.

I don't get why this place is so recommended the food is awful, we had to wait forty minutes for our table even with a reservation. Service is eh. The chicken katsu was so bad we stopped after two bites. The rice was the exact same as rice a roni. The poor host at the front looked miserable to be there and I agree with him. I wish they would've given out table away rather than waste my birthday dinner here.

Had an awesome night at Lumi! The vibes there are just unbeatable. Shout out to the bartenders, especially Stacey, absolutely the best. She made killer drinks and made everyone feel like a friend. Definitely my new go-to spot!

The food here was so fresh and delicious! My boyfriend and I didn't even try the sushi, which is what Lumi is known for, and we were still blown away by the flavors and pure deliciousness of the food.

Had an amazing time for my birthday, Jose is the best server!! Definitely my favorite spot in San Diego.
Be the first to ReplyFood was delicious! 4/5 BUT not worth the price.
The service on the other hand was bad. The server came to us 3 times. She took our order, brought us our food and gave us the check. If it was a busy night I'd be more understanding but it wasn't busy at all. I felt as if I was an outcast. The tables around us were constantly checked on and helped but no one ever came to us. We waited 15 mins for the waitress to get back to us just for us to pay. Then when it came to tipping of course she FINALLY decides she wants to try and have a conversation with us. The ambience is LOUD. Even the women at the table next to us were screaming at each other just to have a conversation. Definitely would NOT recommend.
Be the first to ReplyLumi is a elegant Japanese restaurant, conveniently located
Lumi is a elegant Japanese restaurant, conveniently located on 5th Avenue in the Gaslamp Quarter. The interior is well appointed, with stylish, modern decor. The rooftop dining area offers some of the best views of downtown San Diego. Service is efficient and friendly! I'd highly recommend the sake flight. The fresh and clean option is best for individuals new to sake. The flight is served with an information card, detailing tasting notes and suitable pairings. The Akira Back pizza, whose namesake is the principal chef of the restaurant, is exceptional and itself worth a visit! Ingredients are fresh and is a generous portion. The truffle oil sets this dish apart. Dessert options are limited, but offer a fun take on non-food items, such as cigars. The Akira Back cigar is fashioned like a cigar, but is entirely edible. Lumi is an excellent spot for a date. Diners will enjoy and exquisite meal in a contemporary setting. Enjoy!
Be the first to ReplyThe food is amazing, the staff even greater.
I was having trouble making a reservation on OpenTable, so I called the restaurant and Marvilla picked up. She was so accommodating and helped me and my party of 5 get a table the same day! When I got to the host stand a hostess named Elyse answered all my questions, recommended the Akira Back Pizza, and it was the best thing I've ever tasted. Everyone at lumi is so nice I totally recommend coming to if you're in SD!

Brown hair and blue eyes. This place was subpar at best. Food was meh. Our waitress was like a sniper, you know she's there, but you can't see her. She came to the table maybe a few times total. Overall, the waitress made the entire experience horrible. 0/10 don't recommend. Also, no good areas to take baller pictures like this one.
Be the first to ReplyOverhyped place! Sushi was okay and drinks were not strong.
We got two drinks and a roll and our tap ended up being $60-$70 which is okay if it was good. The drinks were just strong the roll my husband got was suppose to have lobster or crab I forgot but it was filled with mostly veggies. Service was okay we ask to be seated by the heat lamps due to the cold weather and they did but didn't want to turn the lap on for us.
Be the first to ReplyCame here for valentines day.
The service was excellent. They had a special 5-course dinner menu for valentines day but we opted to get separate items. We ordered the beef and shrimp skewers, the surf n turf roll, the spicy miso soups and a couple drinks. First off, this place is probably much nicer during the day. At night, it was very dimly lit and the chairs are an awkward height compared to the table. The high tops were probably more comfortable. The beef skewers were BY FAR the best beef skewers ive ever had. The meat was incredibly juicy, tender and flavorful. The shrimp skewers were good too but not amazing. The spicy miso was good but a little too fishy for my liking. The surf n turf roll was really good as well. Overall i would definitely come back, the view is probably better during the day as well so thats when ill return.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing food.
We had lots of varieties of appetizers and entrees and drinks. Everything was delicious, but the service was horrible. We were there for a friends birthday dinner and the service was ridiculously slow, it took over 3 hours for the entire meal. It just put a damper on the festivities. We appreciate the birthday desert, but it was a bit underwhelming vs what we got from a comparable restaurant from earlier in the day.
