Be the first to ReplyI came here for lunch and chose the $98++ set.
It's my first time after their renovation and really impressed with the non-personal-but-also-intimate-environment at the restaurant (no unnecessary attention by waiters who stand close by your table which I find very awkward although the waiters there are still very attentive).Really glad that there is an upscale Japanese bbq place that opens for lunch located conveniently in the heart of Orchard Rd, because you know when the craving strikes in you might not be able to wait until dinner time (happens to me all the time).Anyway, I was impressed with the super wide selection of Japanese beef air flown directly from different regions in Japan. I was mind blown and spoiled for choices but I didn't want to spend too much time in reading the menu because of my hunger hence the lunch set. The set consists of:Appetizer: Beansprout with some other vegetables (light and appetizing)Sashimi salad: Thinly sliced sea bream, salmon & tuna with fresh lettuces (refreshing but the fishes were too thin)Beef platter (I've posted a picture of this): Highly marbled beef, not sure about the parts but oh boy they were sublime! Overall the cut was not that thin so it's easier for you to achieve medium rare when you bbq it. Damn wagyu me in love!Seafood platter: Very fresh hokkaido scallop & blue fun tuna Clam soup: A tad salty but not too badDessert: Mini matcha creme brulee (not too sweet and it's just nice)I'll be back!
Be the first to ReplyI stopped by here to splurge a bit on a weekend lunch.
And for the most part, I would say that the experience at Magosaburou was solid, although a bit pricey for what you get. While they are known for Kobe beef, seemed like more than half of my lunch set was in fact seafood, but they also executed that well, and perhaps better than the beef in some ways! I chose a 4 course lunch set which was comprised of the following dishes:1. Namuru - 3 different types of veggies2. Sashimi salad - nice salad with salmon, tuna, and scallop3. Grill course - 3 types of beef, a scallop and some veggies, served with rice and soup4. Dessert - panna cotta with a nespresso coffeeI liked the namuru as it was a light way to start the meal and tasty. The sashimi salad was also very good. Loved the dressing and the salmon actually had some flavor here. As for the grill course, the beef was good, but all of the sudden, 120g of beef just didn't seem like much as I wolfed down the protein quickly.Plus, one of the cuts was very tough, so not sure if I would get that again but I forgot which one that was :(. The grilled veggies and scallops however were outstanding. And the clam soup was also one of the best I ever had - great light flavor, one perfectly cooked clam, and some veggies. And the panna cotta was the perfect way to end the meal Overall, Magosaburou has some really good things going for it, although not always with the Kobe beef. The setting is also quite nice, on the 5th floor of the Ion Orchard building with nice views of the neighborhood and trendy interior (loved the umbrella chandeliers). Not bad for mall food :).

we ordered their premium cut of chuck eye roll which was at a discounted price. This cut would be recommended for people who like soft and tender meat. They do not just melt in your mouth but the oils that are released after grilling wrapped the entire slice and that fragrant aroma of meat lingers. Mixed Sashimi SaladThe tangy sauce which has hints of yuzu gives the usual sashimi a refreshing taste. Having sashimi in a salad way is better than just a sashimi platter. We chose "Fresh Sea Bream" that was stated as imported directly from Japan. Spots of Himalayan rock salt which must have been stained green by the konbu. You can choose your own dome( steak, "national treasures magalican pork" ) Since we've ordered fish, this one is not a gyu dome but more like a fish dome. The fish is really fresh and not dry or flakey. Picky fish eaters among us even gave a thumbs-up. But apart from the visual effect, it may be more worth it to order other kinds of meat. Garlic Rice with Salmon Chunks of fresh salmon mixed into the aromatic Niigata rice. This has other varieties such as beef & leek, chicken & bacon. But do not expect fluffy Chinese style stir fried rice as this is stickier and resembles a loose version of onigiri. Assorted KimchiAs you might have already seen, there are some Korean cuisine in the menu. Presented with spicy red chilli flecks and you can have it just like that without finding it too salty. HitsumabushiChopped grilled eel on rice served with Japanese Herbs and brothPrefer this to the garlic rice. I could not figure out what the pink mustard-like sauce (seems like mentaiko). We mixed everything up together with the wasabi to get a Japanese version of Korean Bimbibap without the sweet bean paste. This is worth trying for a change from usual teriyaki eel don. Stewed Ox Tail SoupClear soup with a hint of wine aroma. Desserts Matcha Creme BruleeGive the Crispy shell a crack and enjoy with the bitter matcha Custard below. Orange grapefruit jelly Orange CheesecakeTaste too gelatinous and seems like a hard jelly rather than a light cheese mousse cake. Overall, what left me the best impression was the yakiniku beef. It would be a wasted trip if you never order a beef dish. One need not only only order the yakiniku to try the beef as there are other cheaper alternatives like wagyu beef with Tamago on hot plate. However, one can give the desserts a miss as I find them overpriced for the quality
