The restaurant deserves the stars
Creative and innovative cuisine. The chef is really great. Friendly and competent service Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyGreat, just great
Great little restaurant. Every course of the tasting menu is a journey of discovery. The cook is someone who has an idea and takes me on a journey. And the journey takes me mentally to faraway places, but the products remain local and sustainable. The wine list is well-maintained and the prices are very fair. The atmosphere is very pleasant, the room is full of history and has an unobtrusive, simple design.

If the "surprise menu" consists 1:1 of the à la carte selection, apart from the intermediate courses, then I find that surprising - to put it mildly. We would have preferred to choose what we would like from the menu ourselves. There is a vegan, a vegetarian and a surprise menu with meat/fish to choose from. We opted for the meat/fish option. Here too, we probably had the wrong expectations and were surprised by the preponderance of meatless courses (including the main course), which all tasted good but did not correspond to what we thought we had ordered.

When we arrived at Maison Manesse, we were given a nice round table and just had to decide whether we wanted the vegan, vegetarian or the menu with meat/fish in 4 or 6 courses. For us, 6 courses was a clear choice and because we have always done well with vegetarian food, we chose the corresponding menu. To start with, two greetings from the kitchen, warm sourdough bread and a glass of slightly fruity white wine. We are in the mood and are looking forward to the menu. The pictures show our little culinary journey, which was accompanied by a second white wine - again a really good recommendation from the sommelier, who was also very familiar with wine regions that were unknown to us. The artichoke and the eggplant remain particularly memorable from the menu. Overall, a harmonious dinner in a pleasantly relaxed atmosphere!
Be the first to ReplyFanstastic food with a challenging wine pairing
We celebrated a birthday and visited this jewel of a restaurant in Zurich Wiedkon. We had the full menu and wine pairing for the three of us. The ambiance and seating was great. We felt welcome. The food was absolutely amazing! So tasty and beautifully prepared. Art on the plate, it truly was. Our favourite was the vegetarian foi gras mini sandwich. We missed a red wine with this one. Maison Manesse is more of a white wine restaurant, so we were told. The wine pairing overall was challenging for us. We tried to believe that the wines were great with the food, and gave it our best, but ended up not liking any of them a lot. The only wine we really liked was the red wine we ordered extra, to accompany the cheese platter. The wines are all from small local vineyards, so we were told. Not the usual French or Italian blends. Maybe our pallet is not used to this adventure. The desserts are a highlight, but I won’t give away the surprise! Go check it out yourself. The service was outstanding and competent. We even got a small birthday gift. Thank you !

I personally found this food to be quite inspired, their playfulness with textures and the state of ingredients (raw, cooked, pickled, fermented). My absolute favourite was a crawfish bisque that they add to their pork shoulder dish. Something incredible happens when the sauce from the pork mixed with the light foamy shrimp sauce. Second best highlight of the night was the mushroom tea served as a finisher to their kohlrabi and mushroom offering. The distillation of mushroom and the melting of a mint infused ice cube takes me back immediately to south east Asia, sitting around a big bowl of soup, which is typically served with fresh herbs and veggies, including mint. This restaurant went out of its way to accommodate my last minute request for a table on the one evening I was in Zurich, and I am very lucky they did. I admit there was a minor hiccup of miscommunication on one of the wine pairings, but my 3 hours at this restaurant overall revealed that these people love and respect food and wine and that is something I do not take likely. And something you surely can taste. I thank them for my evening - another food adventure I won't soon forget.

It's been about 10 days since my wife and I had dinner at Maison Manesse. I've been trying to figure how to explain, in the context of a Tripadvisor review, just how good Maison Manesse is. I've been unsuccessful, but I'll do my best to convey the overall excellence of this restaurant. Maison Manesse is located away from the center of Zurich, which is good because getting away from the stereotypical Zurich location helps get one ready for what is a very special evening. The room is lively, but the tables aren't too close. We ordered the 4 course menu, which became a 7 course meal with an amuse bouche, a 'mid-bouche' and two dessert courses. I'm sure I can't describe each course, but I'll do my best to describe some of them. The amuse bouche was a small bowl of kohlrabi with apple and almond foam. This dish was a revelation, the flavor was pure and clear and made us smile. One of the items was a fresh fish ceviche. The fish was from Lake Maggiore and the ceviche was done with oranges. Wonderful unexpected fresh fish dish. Another item was a broad bean and pastrami dish that was flavorful and fun. Two desserts; beetroot ice cream with lot's of goodies and a dish with green strawberries, pistachios. Again, completely unexpected and completely excellent. I should note that our need for gluten free dining was handled perfectly with no fuss. The chef even baked gluten free bread for us, a difficult, time consuming task that is sincerely appreciated. The GF bread was wonderful. Service as superb. Our server took great care of us and never seemed to tire of answering our repeated question "what did we just eat?!?" Lot's of laughs and smiles. We ordered a bottle from the 30 or so page spreadsheet that is the wine list. The one thing I'd do differently would be to simply let Raymond choose the wines. This would raise the discovery element just a bit. Simply describing the dishes doesn't really express how good Maison Manesse. Service was excellent. All the food was fun, interesting and very tasty. I wouldn't have ordered any of the items served from an ala carte menu, yet I fully enjoyed each. I think this is what made the evening such a discovery for me. Highly recommend, looking forward to returning some day.
Be the first to ReplyA great place to visit
I visited the restaurant together with my girlfriend a few days ago for dinner and it was really, truly grea experience. We did the full menu with wine pairing. My girlfriend selected the vegetarian option, and was concluded that it was the best combination of dishes she ever had tasted. The wine pairings were the highlight for me. Especially since some of the wines were made especially for the restaurant. Delicious! It was a great experience and we will be coming back!
Be the first to ReplyVery very rude staff
There were three people serving us dinner when we were there and the female worker was particularly very rude. But even another worker was not discrete at all. They humiliate you in front of other people and make weird remarks about what you order in fronf of other guests.
Be the first to ReplySeldom had such a good meal
The restaurant does not look posh but had a comfortable, relaxed feel. But you can see that it was decorated with a lot of care. Even the plates and glasses are selected with care. The food is …. I don’t have words for it. It is so good! We had a ‘noix gras’ and we don’t know how they did it but it really tasted like foie gras. Unbelievable! So do go here! We live in the Netherlands but we will come back to this restaurant!
Be the first to ReplyWorth it. Gorgeous food and wine - fresh concepts executed perfectly, cool setting, top service.
Our evening at Maison Manesse was a happy and memorable one. The food was delicious but more than that, it was exciting and different and had us talking and thinking about it all evening and beyond. The decor isn’t typical for this calibre of restaurant in Zurich - it has a relaxed modern rustic vibe much cooler than the usual, and it chimes with the food. The sommelier / wine pairings for the tasting menu are what really elevates it - a few decades into boozing, it’s rare to be in a restaurant encountering whole new wines and producers and making notes. Top class and friendly service. 100% recommend and will return.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing lunch
Tried their lunch menu, which offers new options every week, vegetarian, fish and meat options: starter and main for ~28-38 chf for 2 dishes.
It’s absolutely delicious, great service and always beautifully served! I picked the grilled zucchini salad as a starter and the aubergine, feta on couscous main. Best ever!
Disappointing for the price
We ordered the 4 gang Menu and it was overall underwhelming, especially that the "main course" for everyone including meat eaters was a deep fried piece of celery root. The accompanying lightly cooked romaine leaves in a watery green sauce with spring peas were more disappointing than the celery root. The wines were clearly selected with much care, but none were to my taste and incredibly expensive considering the price to buy in a store by bottle. Service was ok, but certainly lacking for Michelin standard. I was sitting in the corner and always had hand over my plates and cutlery to the server. That’s ok in a normal restaurant but I expect more attentive service for these prices. In all, our second disappointing experience at Maison Manesse so we will not be returning. For almost CHF 300 per person, it’s just way overpriced for what is delivered.
