Mamma Maria Boston Reviews
#1 North End Italian
Best Italian food I’ve ever had including Italy! Everything we had was incredible and the service was first class. I was quite worried as we couldn’t get a reservation but walked up and got there early. Will be on my list for my next Boston visit!
Wonderful dining experience
Great experience from ambience to service and food. Visited with friends and loved all of our selections: Tuna Cannoli, Halibut, Steak, and Bone Marrow. Our drinks were mixed perfectly and table service was impeccable.
We were here on a Monday to celebrate my mom's birthday.
It's so hard to get even a reservation here, I booked ahead more than a week before. The food was excellent and the price is very reasonable. My mom over their fresh baked bread so much that she ate one piece too much, wrap the rest of them back home and kept on eating them!! My child ordered 2 appetizers instead of an entrée and the waiter didn't mind and they 2 appetizers definitely made us full too. So portion wise it was great as well. The only thing is they have stairs and I was worried that my mom couldn't walk up, but she did. So just be aware of that. Otherwise, I would definitely come again and recommend to others!!
Worst Dining Experience
I called ahead and was told outdoor seating is available on a first come first server basis. Upon arrival I was greeted by a bearded gentleman in a sports coat who informed me that outdoor seating was not available for at least 30 minutes despite the fact that I could see three empty tables. When I informed him that I would be happy to wait he told me to go ahead and leave and come back in 30 minutes and if a table is available at that time, he would let me know. He was very condescending in his tone the entire time. Since they were booked for seats at least 2 weeks out I decided to stay so I could experience the food. I ordered a pasta dish and it was absolutely delicious. The waiter was pleasant. I plan to return back to this restaurant multiple times and leave similar feedback if I have a like-kind experience.

We returned to Mamma Maria (after having visited while living in Boston) for a rehearsal dinner. We ended up sitting in nearly the same spot of the restaurant. Our experience was so delightful! The staff was incredibly friendly and skilled (working in very tight quarters). The food was DELICIOUS. And the drinks were flowing!

Romantic Dining
The food here is exceptional, all their pastas are made in house. Everyone enjoyed their meals. My only negative comment is that the restaurant is located in a historic house and the rooms are tight. The chiavari chairs were not comfortable. Next time I will opt for the outdoor seating which looked delightful.
I couldn't believe how beautiful this place was.
It was like a dream and the food was top notch. Fancy dishes that left you full. Great combo. So glad we were able to make it to this spot. Our server was so kind and our food was promptly served. They brought us a dessert because we mentioned that it was our anniversary. Such a beautiful night.
We went here for my girlfriends birthday.
Needless to say, they did not disappoint in any way. The service was polite professional and quick. They brought us some bread and olive oil to nibble on. Although it was a bit crowded, it felt very cozy and romantic. I had informed them of the occasion and they brought us a very nice birthday dessert plate. The server took a picture for us which was very nice of them. I had to shake his hand at the end because they made me look so good in front of my girlfriend. Definitely recommend this place!
Enjoyed a leisurely dining experience this evening.
Party of five - four ordered the lobster ravioli. An amazing dish combining a variety of flavors and fresh ingredients-pasta was perfect as well. All agreed. Our server Ovi B was courteous and appreciative of our business. Will be back for sure! Be sure to make a reservation. Outdoor dining is an option if desired. Located in a story-book setting.
Delicious and delightful
We dined outside in the courtyard which was delightful on a beautiful August night. Our waiter was very attentive without being intrusive. The dishes come out at a leisurely pace so don’t be in a hurry. My white was picked by my server and was spectacular. The sourdough bread was great. I lived the pasta duet starter. We both had filets which were so tender and perfectly cooked.
We sat outside in the beautiful outdoor patio.
The food was delicious and the bar upstairs is small and intimate. I will be back just for a drink. Highly recommend this lovely restaurant
Lovely ambience/location
We so enjoyed eating outside. Service was impeccable....wine was delicious. Osso bucco dleicious & ample serving. Would eat here again for sure. Beautiful location for dinner.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars! The food was the best Italian food I've had outside of Italy! The staff were super friendly and I did not feel rushed at all. The ambiance is great for a group of friends or a date night. I can not recommend this restaurant more!
Great dining experience all around.
Food was made with great ingredients and prepared expertly. Service was perfect. Raluca was perfectly attentive and made great recommendations. Looking forward to returning.
My wife and I had a very disappointing experience here last
My wife and I had a very disappointing experience here last night. After waiting nearly 40 minutes for our entrées, they finally arrived at the table cold. When we brought this to our server's attention, instead of an apology or an attempt to make things right, we were met with rudeness and condescension. To make matters worse, the manager was called over and treated us with the same dismissive attitude. At no point did anyone apologize or try to improve our experience. Dining out should feel welcoming and enjoyable, but unfortunately, we left feeling disrespected and dissatisfied. We won't be returning and cannot recommend this restaurant.
Great Pasta and service!
Had to call to get reservation (3 weeks out), but fortunately we were able to get a table! This place is amazing! Pasta was excellent, dishes were unique and we would go back. Service was also great, it is a gem.
Wife’s Birthday
Dinner at Mamma Maria was nothing short of unforgettable. From the charm of the historic townhouse setting to the flawless service and incredible food, every detail exceeded our expectations. The staff was warm, knowledgeable, and made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. We started with the beef carpaccio and burrata—both were perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. The standout of the night was the Veal , rich, tender, and packed with flavor. Every bite felt like a celebration. The pasta was fresh and cooked to perfection, and the dessert was the perfect ending to a flawless meal. This was a special night for us, and Mamma Maria made it feel even more meaningful. It’s clear why this restaurant is so beloved. We’ll be talking about this experience for a long time.
Fancy Itlalian
The restaurant is very nice inside. The bartenders are excellent. They are on top of everything if you're sitting at the bar. The osso buco is delicious. The burrata and pit fruit app is very good. The fruit is so fresh. The only reason this is a four star and not five is the food was so slow coming out of the kitchen. I would go back for sure!
The décor of the place is like a serious top-quality restaurant
The décor of the place is like a serious top-quality restaurant. Do not let it fool you! The food quality is marginal at the most. Overcrowded and noisy. No way the kitchen can cook quality food for so many guests! IMPOSSIBLE The price you pay for the dinner is for the decor but not quality Italian food.
A must visit when in the North End.
We live in Boston and would highly recommend this restaurant. Luis was amazing. He was friendly, professional, and just the right amount of checking in. We did not feel rushed at any point and truly appreciate that. So many are rushing you lately to turn the tables. The homemade daily fresh pasta rivals what we had when in Italy last fall. Thank You for a lovely evening in your beautiful outdoor area.
There are so many choices in the north end but this one
There are so many choices in the north end but this one needs to be on your list. I had made a reservation on a Friday night for 6:30 but our train from NY was running an hour and a half late so I called to see if I could move the reservation and they totally accommodated it. It was my cousins birthday so I was so relieved. The restaurant is so cute! It was 2 stories and had a beautiful patio area as well. We were seated on the second floor and it was so nicely decorated. We ordered a red bottle of wine and I placed our food order below. Pasta is made from scratch and the menu changes constantly so they don't do "specials". Complimentary fresh bread with pesto (no nuts for anyone with allergies) that was outstanding. Beef carpaccio- so nice with tangy capers, bitter arugula and fresh Parmesan slices. The meat was so fresh. All the flavors were great. Burrata with croutons. Creamy yumminess! Lobster pasta- holy cow. The sauce was super light and the pasta was stuffed with huge chunks of lobster. It was AMAZING! I ate every bite! 2 types of pasta- one was a tortellini and one was a ravioli. One had meat and one had veggies. My husband really enjoyed it and cleaned his plate! Rabbit pasta- our friend had not had it before but loved it. He said the pasta was amazing. Rustic pasta- my cousin absolutely loved it. She said the red sauce was so flavorful and the pasta was so fresh. Since it was my cousins birthday, they gave her a dessert and it said happy birthday in cinnamon. It was gorgeous and the dessert was very tasty. Our server was lovely and we had a great time. I would recommend this phenomenal restaurant and can't wait to come back to Boston so we can come back here! Sorry no pics but please know the dishes were as beautiful as they were tasty.
Awesome time.
This restaurant is a must in Boston. The outdoor dining area is awesome, it was a muggy night so we ate inside. So elegant, cozy and romantic. Wait staff was terrific, wine selection was perfect. Both appetizers and dinners were spot on and DELICIOUS!

A pretty cute restaurant tucked in an unassuming place in North End. Came for a celebratory dinner with some friends and the service was pretty amazing. I got one of their signature dishes, the osso bucco, which is one of their signature dishes and will not come off the menu. It was really good but a bit rich for me. I am generally also not a big fan of risotto but can tell if people like this dish!
Went here for a second birthday dinner! Service was amazing
Went here for a second birthday dinner! Service was amazing and showed us dishes as they came out to give us an idea of what looked good. We started with bison gnocchi and the melons with prosciutto, bison is a must have. Then we got osso bucco and the rabbit pasta. Rabbit pasta was decent, overrated but the osso bucco.. damn now that was a dish! Just look at the picture attached :). Restaurant was elegant but no dress code requirement! (Would stay away from shorts tho)
Food was amazing!!! Definitely make a reservation.
Authentic Italian cuisine. The only issue is we sat upstairs and it was a little warm. BIG menu and a lot to choose from. Food and service was great!!
Perfection
This is one of the best Italian restaurants anywhere. The food, service and ambience were perfect. The hostess was lovely and helpful. Our server was excellent - - knowledgeable, efficient and pleasant. And the food was extraordinary. Be sure to make a reservation.

I've never had a bad meal at Mamma Maria and I've been coming here for years. The services, food and ambiance are all divine. I wish I branched out more but I always end up getting their rabbit pasta dish. It's a house favorite!
Best Italian food by far in the North End.
From the duck to the ravioli everything was delicious.

First and foremost, it was disappointing to arrive with two bottles of outstanding Napa Valley wine only to find out you can no longer bring your own wine. Apparently this was a recent change and you can no longer BYOB Other than that, the food was superb. Service was a little slow for what I am accustomed to. It was a really good experience, but one that I probably will not repeat while I'm here in Boston.

Last night was our first visit, our 25th Anniversary- it won't be our last, it was perfect! The outside ambiance, the host, the server and the food! All over the top. Every smile, interaction, every sip and bite. This is what we hope for every time we go out to eat, few deliver, Mamma Maria did! Thank you.
"this is our 'go to' restaurant in boston.
the staff are wonderful, professional and friendly. we love bringing friends here to share in the top-notch, delicious food and the warm and elegant ambiance. we've always had excellent dishes with superb service. kudos to the chef, his staff and all personnel at mama maria's. can't wait to return!"
Amazing food in the North End
While wandering around the North End looking for a good spot for Italian food we happened across Mamma Maria's and was excited to dine on the patio on a beautiful spring day. Our server, Christopher G was awesome! He took the time to explain many of the menu items and even make some drink recommendations. All four of us ordered something different and no one was disappointed. I had the Veal Cotoletta and my wife had scallops with risotto both were great. Amazing food all around. Looking forward to our next trip to the city so we can go back.
Fantastic experience
Exceptional food, service and atmosphere. We made an effort to try a great sampling of the menu and truly everything is fantastic. The staff is so on it and always comes at the right time to see what you need and how you are doing. The restaurant is in the most amazing setting on a little square in the North End.
Pasto Perfetto
Would highly recommend experiencing what this fine dining restaurant has to offer. Family came here after Harvard commencement and it exceeded our expectations. Both the service and food were impeccable. Table ordered the house's signature dishes. I had the baked clams and osso buco. The veal was velvety soft and married perfectly with a medium-bodied Chardonnay. Barely tasted the tannins. The entree was cooked perfectly in terms of moistness and texture. Waiter was very professional. The restaurant has both indoor and outdoor seating. We sat on the second floor in a smaller area with many windows. It made the meal feel more intimate despite being in a popular, well-trafficked restaurant. Based on the service and quality of the meal, we felt it perfectly matched the occasion.
Beautiful dinner
Phenomenal experience. Our server was great and the food was outstanding. I got the pasta duo and my boyfriend got the suckling pig. We shared the gnocchi boar appetizer. Didn’t waste a bite. Wine pours were generous. Can’t wait to go back.
excellent
Seated upstairs on a busy night. Excellent service, wonderful food. Drinks generous and good wine selection. We had a child with us and they were very accommodating.
An Italian Treat
I was a little bit worried as I didn’t think the reception upon arrival was the warmest but this place is fantastic - our service was perfect, really attentive and helpful and the food was fantastic! Lobster ravioli was probably the best pasta dish I’ve ever eaten - cooked to perfection with generous and tasty filling - would love to go back!
Great dinner experience
This was a very pleasant dining experience from start to finish. We made reservations and were promptly seated at our time of arrival. Very nice atmosphere, elegant but not too formal and nicely decorated. Our waiter was fun to deal with, easy going, knowledgeable about the menu and very courteous. Food was excellent and also the wine / beverage list was extensive. Will come back for sure next time we are in town.
Best restaurant in North End, and probably one of the best
Best restaurant in North End, and probably one of the best original Italian cuisine you can have in the U.S. Wonderful service, great ambiance. Thank you Mamma Maria for this amazing experience !
Wish I could give it more stars! Excellent in every way.
A truly fantastic dining experience. Highly recommend
Oustanding Dining Experience in Boston
We ate here in March 2024 for my wife's birthday and it was a superb experience. The service was attentive without being overbearing and the food was execptional and the chef did not scrimp on portions. I would recommend anyone visiting Boston to pay a visit.
Fabulous food
Food was amazing. Highly recommend!!! Service was super fast - it felt like our food was out very quickly after ordering. We were a party of 9 - and everyone loved their meal. Perfect size too. I got the eggplant parm and loved it. Cesar salad looked amazing too.
I sat upstairs at a four top bar.
It felt like a private room in my bartender was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. I went with his recommendations which were the rabbit pasta and lobster pasta. Both of these dishes have been on their menu for over 40 years, it was my first time trying rabbit and it was tender and juicy. I would compare the rabbit to dark meat chicken. I felt like family when dining at Mamma Mariah and will definitely be back to Bostons north end.
Very great food, service, and ambiance! Was something like
Very great food, service, and ambiance! Was something like out of a movie!! Got the rabbit pasta and it was delicious!! Highly recommend coming here if you're in the North End!
Perfection
Amazing!! Food was a 10, service was a 10++. We hope to have many excuses to come back. Our waitress Emmer (sorry if miss spelling) worked here for 8+ years.. fun, professional, totally excelled our expectations. We will remember this forever!!
The Only Mistake We made this trip was Not Coming HERE every night!!
Osso Bucco was a house specialty! It was an enormous portion and the meat fell off the bone! I ordered Lobster Agnilotti another Excellent meal! The food was so Amazing!! It just doesn’t matter what you order it will be good here!! All fresh ingredients & homemade pastas. The pesto sauce for the bread is out of this world! Finally cannoli in a tea cup was the perfect end to our meal!! Excellent I really can’t say enough about this restaurant!
Mamma, there goes that man! Mamma Mia! Here we go again.
Mamma Maria, doesn't have a slogan yet, but it should. By far the best meal in the North End. If a restaurant changes their menu daily, it's a good sign. There's no messing around here, so don't even think about stepping foot on this hallowed ground if you're not locked in. Sublime, transcendent, and incandescent are words I use to describe my own basketball skills, but they fit here as well. We had the Lobster Agnolotti to start and I had the Venison prepared two ways. Never had venison, don't even know what it is, but it was absolutely delicious. Thanks for reading, I appreciate each and every one of my loyal fans.
Beautiful establishment & the food was phenomenal.
We sat at the bar bc it was fully booked when we were there& the service was on point.
One of the best Italian restaurants in North End.
It was on my list for a while and I'm glad we decided to finally try it! The restaurant is small but very beautiful. It clean, quiet and aesthetically pleasing. I got the lobster ravioli and I loved it. Would love to try the other dishes on the menu soon!
