Extra special dining
One of my best meals ever. Interesting and tasty selections, many options for your personal preference of preparation. Attentive but unobtrusive service. What more needs to be said?!
Be the first to ReplyYes, it is pricy but the best service I have seen.
Yes, if you eat a full meal there, figure $100 each. I have to see the service there is the best (or one of the best) I have every seen. Very good and helpful since this was the first time we were there. My daughter got the place from a recommendation from a friend that was into food. The food was very good too, each specially prepared. We enjoyed it all. I view it as a special event restaurant, as it was for us. Worth a visit when the time comes.

Everything you order, every bite you eat is a total treat. You will pay dearly but Matsuhisa is a spot we absolutely love. We've never ordered the rolls but stick to their specials & always order items like the Nobu Tacos, Black Cod lettuce cups, Yellowtail Sashimi, King Crab Tempura, Lamb Chops, Sea Bass & Wagyu Beef if we're splurging. The service is usually top notch & the ambiance warm & inviting with a sexy undercurrent.

We came on Tuesday evening. The place wasnโt busy at 5:30. But it quickly filled up at 6:30. So reservations are recommended. Itโs definitely a new age sushi spot. There are unusual items on the menu different from your traditional sushi restaurant. The presentation is great. But I found that I do not like the palates. Some sauces for the sashimi was way too sour. Not a pleasant citrusy flavor. My husband enjoyed the meal better than I did. What annoyed me was the portion of the dishes. Iโd be more than happy to pay the price and feel good about the food if you charge enough money and give me a decent mouthful of it. The fish was sliced super thin. While they looked good, they do not give you much substance. Itโs the skinny model syndrome. I can now cross this place off my list. Been there, done that.

It's easy to understand why Matsuhisa is so highly rated. There aren't many restaurants where, no matter what you order (from an extensive menu), you will always be delighted with what's put on the table. Its ambience is interesting and delightful. Service staff (Brian this time) is consistently friendly and competent but not intrusive. This across-the-board quality does not come cheap ... our bill for two and just one glass of wine apiece was $350 with tip.

Matsuhisa is one of those restaurants that you expect flawlessness in food, service and execution. Our visit was exceptional on many fronts, but not without some mis-steps by the staff.
Letโs focus on the positives for the appetizersโฆthe chicken gyoza and tuna taco were delicious. I thought the beef skewers were not up to standards; they were overcooked and tough, the shrimp tempura was salty, and I felt fleeced by the tuna tartare with caviar. For the price I was expecting more than a small bowl of minced toro with a spoonful of caviar.
We loved the sashimi and sushi, it may have been some of the best in the US. I ordered the sashimi combo and the flavors and textures were perfect, other than the octopus (I am just not a fan of octopus). The slices were beautifully presented, moist, luscious, buttery, full-flavored, everything you would want. I will give a bit of a warning about the wasabi, take note that it is fresh and very hot, just a touch is required if you are looking for a little spice to the bite.
While we were smiling after the sushi and sashimi, we decided to order a bento box, and we were glad we did. The chocolate cake was divine, and the green tea ice cream was perfect.
Service was varied, from perfection to needs improvement. When you are spending over $100 per person, perfection is expected and needs improvement is not acceptable.
Overall, I was hoping for a memorable evening, but only felt as if I merely checked the box on going to Matsuhisa. If every dish had blown me away and the service was impeccable, I would relish returning, but few dishes cleared that hurdle, and the service was further away.
Perfection
My husband, myself and another couple enjoyed date night here. We are in our 40s and don't get out too much (KIDS!). So yes, even uncool older people can go here ;) This was a huge treat. Our server Genevieve was phenomenal. We gave her a budget per person, and she surprised us. There were a few misses (lamb chop, most of the rolls) but the good things were beyond good. Service was incredible. Yes, it was expensive ($400+ per couple with alchocol) but there are soooo many mediocre meals out there, I'd rather do this once in a while than mediocre often. Loved jalapeรฑo yellowtails, bincho truffle, lime cod, sea bass, dry miso salad and the off the menu dishes she brought us. Thank you for a fun night out!

This was going to be our big treat during our stay in Cherry Creek. It was on the ground floor on the apartment building we were staying in, so the location was perfect. I had been to the partner restaurant in Aspen and was expecting great things. But it wasn't great. It wasn't bad either. Food OK. Service OK. Atmosphere OK. But were we wowed. No we were not. Many better places to eat in Cherry Creek without the price tag

Incredible experience. The staff went out of their way to make our anniversary dinner special. Our waitress was absolutely perfect. Very helpful. The food is second to none. Highly recommend Matsuhisa Denver.

Our order had a very long female hair. Our main course took almost 30 mins to arrive. And once it arrives, my husbands order was missing. No apologies from the leadership, no apologies from anyone. Sushi was amazing. The server never talk to me after showing him the long hair from the dish and messed up our courses.

This was the first time dinning here and it has been one of the best experience ever. The level of service and attention to detail by the staff is exceptional, friendly and attentive.
The food: I donโt think there enough words to describe how wonderful each and every dish was prepared, the quality of the sushi, the flavors that works so well together and how beautiful each dish was platted.
We ordered a lot of food with some standouts like the lettuce wrapped Black cod, the truffle shaved tuna, red snapper with the right amount of heat and tang. We even had room for dessert and the rice pudding and bento box is a must.
A large bottle of sake shared by all added to the enjoyment
Thanks to the staff and chef for such a memorable experience
Matsu has it down pact in Denver.
Delicious food with some new dishes from usual menu. Waiter polite efficient knowledgeable and non invasive. Place very nice looking with great bar as well.

We wanted to have a special birthday dinner, and decided to go back to Matsuhisa. We made a reservation, and were glad we did, because all the tables were taken by about 6:30. We started with a Peruvian Margarita - slightly spicy, no salt and oh, so good - and Sapporo beer. For appetizers, we had the black cod lettuce cups which we had loved the first time we were here. You can't really split one of these, so we each had one. We also ordered the umami chicken wings - wonderful flavor, easy to pick up and eat. We then had the king crab tempura with a creamy spicy sauce (not too spicy, just right) and the rock shrimp tempura with a butter ponzu sauce and avocado pieces added. Both were excellent! Next time we go, we want to have sushi, as several tables around us were enjoying traditional sushi, and it gets great reviews!
We ordered the chocolate molten cake bento box, with ice cream, to take home, like we did last time. Excellent with a little red wine! We did see a shaved ice dessert at several tables with children, and it looked like they were having fun with it. I'm sure it tasted good too!
Despite it being on the pricy side, it is well worth it, and, most importantly, you leave wanting to go back.
