Moma Roma Reviews from The Last Year
PERFECTION!
I had dinner at MOMA while I was on holiday in Rome in March 2024. My experience can be summed up with one word – PERFECTION! I went with the tasting menu: Amuse-Bouche - Seasonal Garden Salad - Cuttlefish Tagliatelle with Puttanesca Sauce - Pumpkin Cappelletti with Provolone Cheese Fondue and Licorice - Chamomile Risotto with Smoked Eel, Honey, and Origan - Braised Veal with Licorice and Fennel - Polenta Cake - Vanilla Chantilly with Raspberries. I also went with the four-glass wine pairings. Each and every aspect of the meal and wine pairing was a one-of-a-kind experience. I am so happy that I was able to experience MOMA and look forward to returning on my next Roman Holiday! Thank you MOMA!
A certainty over time
A stone's throw from Piazza Barberini, this restaurant is absolutely solid. Cozy and discreet environment, attentive but never intrusive service and fantastic, absolutely wonderful mise en place. World class appetizers precede a menu that is not very vast but each dish is a small masterpiece. Well-deserved Michelin star and very attractive quality/price ratio considering the level. Go there and you won't regret it. A ten and praise.
Fabulous
My wife and I visited Moma on our first night stay in Rome and whilst I booked this restaurant from the UK with little know about it we were absolutely delighted, the food was perfectly cooked, the staff provided perfect service and the ambience was lovely. The tasting menu with the wine pairing was perfect with every dish and wine pairing absolutely spot on. This restaurant is well worth a visit.
With this being my second time in Italy I really wanted to
With this being my second time in Italy I really wanted to explore the Michelin star side of Italian cuisine. Moma, although not our first choice, was a nice treat to indulge in while abroad. We opted for choosing a various items from their a la carte menu verses a traditional tasting menu. We started off with some small bites a crunch beet dish (5/5), a goat cheese "ice cream sandwich" (3/5 and a little too butter for me), and a beef tartare (3/5 pretty average). The second round of light bites was a chicken liver half dome (2/5 as I'm not a fan of chicken liver), and an anchovy cracker (2/5 nothing memorable). After the small bites we had the crispy sweetbreads with broccolini (6/5 and it melted in your mouth like butter), a citrusy eel risotto (6/5), and fresh truffle and lamb pasta (3/5 if it were warmer I may have enjoyed it more. We also had the cod and bok choy (2/5 as it had little to no flavor other than the general bitterness of the dish), the crispy quail (3/5) and a fois gras verrine. I though that I would've immensely enjoyed the fois gras dish, however the original flavor of the fois gras was lost in the pursuit of Michelin star glory and thus me giving it a (2/5). Also, the parting mignardises were a delightful way to end the night.
Pleasant.
Pleasant and discreet setting. Impeccable service. Pleasant catering (I'm not a gourmet). The prices are obviously a bit high but it seems worth it... Ideal for a couple's dinner (provided you are not stingy, a minimum of around 100 euros/person is required).
Wanted to book a Michelin star restaurant on short notice,
Wanted to book a Michelin star restaurant on short notice, and their ready availability made me nervous, but we had a terrific meal. We had tasting menu with some interesting challenges: one diner was omnivore, another pescatarian, and third had several fish allergies. Kitchen did a great job of accommodating our preferences, making substitutions that made everyone feel valued... very atypical of our experiences with other Michelin starred restaurants. Food was creative, delicious, beautifully presented, with only a couple of misses. The service was particularly polished but also warm and friendly. We were last to leave but did not feel rushed. For price and quality, we felt excellent value. I wouldn't be surprised if they land a second star in years to come.
Amazing
We had a wonderful evening at this restaurant. The staff are very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. We had the menu and it was amazing. Every course was an explosion of flavours. Don't hesitate whether you should take the premium wine arrangement. Do it. The wines are as special and delicious as the food.
Poor experience
Very disappointed. Came here for my birthday meal. The food was not tasty, bland, flavours did not match. Surprising given the Michelin star and this was one of the main reasons we picked this place. The staff were professional in fairness but it is down to the food at the end of the day. Not one dish tasted good, was let down massively.
Smoked star
There is love in Moma's cuisine and also high professionalism. However, it is inconceivable for a starred restaurant to have access to a bar and eat all the time with the smell of heated pizzas and sandwiches. Smoked star!
Food that will be remembered
Great dining experience, lovely wines, friendly staff, very good value for money, highly recommended!
Atypical star
I only tried two courses (tartare and lamb ravioli) and I found them good but not worthy of a starred restaurant (for textures, concentration of flavours), as were other aspects (only one amuse buche, no "desserts" with the coffee). I must say that the prices are also low for a starred restaurant, even lower than many restaurants in the surrounding area without a star. Given this last consideration, it is an excellent restaurant overall
Fantastic Lunch - Highly recommend
This was lovely restaurant. Thoroughly enjoyed food and ambience here. Would highly recommend. The staff were great.
TOUR DE FORCE
What a sensational restaurant. We worked our way through a gastronomic adventure (the tasting menu) with matched Italian wines. It was a tour de force of Lazio food and wines with the occasional jump to something unusual. Serious, professional and exemplary service made it a pleasure to dine in pleasant surroundings. Not a cheap option for dinner, but a value proposition.
Lovely lunch in this modern 1 Michelin star
Modern decoration, creative food and welcoming staff in this 1 michelin star restaurant. The risotto with camomile, smoked eel, honey and oregano leaves mentioned by Michelin is really good. The braised veal cheek and the baba au rhum were excellent as well. We liked less the octopus and the sabaion. Nice selection of wines of which we were recommended an excellent one.
We had a fantastic meal here at Moma.
Every dish on the tasting menu was meticulously designed and extremely creative. The wine recommended to us by the sommelier was incredible. The staff was extremely attentive and professional. A well deserved Michelin star.

Should not have a star, I'll give it two here because the first third of the tasting menu was good, particularly the small starter course, and the vegetable course. The rest was a disaster with one dish being inedible for us and other nearby tables (the risotto), while others like the cuttlefish puttanesca having flavors not becoming of a star - the sauce tasted exactly like sugar free ketchup from Whole Foods. The wines were good. In terms of service it was another miss, no water service, missed explaining some dishes, dripped wine all over the table on every pour, etc. Would not recommend.

Whenever we come to Rome, we look forward to a visit to Moma. Thank goodness it survived Covid! I visited alone this time and the staff were so welcoming and just the right amount of engagement. First, the staff are all professionals. Welcoming, efficient and thoughtful in their suggestions. Second, the food. It's sublime and well paced. The amuse bouche suggests the innovative and sophisticated flavors to come in the courses to follow. I had spaghetti aglio e oil with squid, and second was local fish in broth. I didn't order dessert but was happy when some lovely petit fours was brought to my table. Woah. The food is refined and delicious. Don't attempt to modify the menu items unless you have an allergy. I cannot wait to visit again!
