Deserves more than five stars.
The staff and service are friendly, the service excellent, but the food is AMAZING! Presentations are beautiful and the flavors may bring you to tears. Better than the French Laundry? Definately.Much better without the "attitude" and ridiculous high price. Go now before it so popular you can't get in.Fabulous!

Such a great find, very much a creative take on Italian cuisine (not your traditional fare). We enjoyed everything and the service is spot on.

Wow! Mono was not what we expected when, after a month of touring, we decided we'd had enough Irish / Scottish food and decided on this restaurant because it is billed as an Italian Restaurant. It's most Italian aspect is the extensive Italian wine list. You're not going to find spaghetti with meatballs or veal piccata on its menu. Instead you will experience a restaurant clearly vying for a Michelin star. The service and imaginative presentations are outstanding. The atmosphere is modern with very soft new age? / soft jazz playing in the background. We could carry on a conversation without raising our voices. Very pleasant. Our meal started with an unexpected three item stuzzichini (amuse bouche). Bread was not served in a communal basket but instead was individually presented on a plate of what I guess was dried chickpeas or ? and consisted of a breadstick, a "cracker" and a slice each of two different breads. You can find the menu online but it won't prepare you for the experience. My wife had the mussel appetizer and I had the Gorgonzola which was melted inside bottoni pasta. The sommelier suggested an excellent, reasonably priced, Chianti to accompany our meal. To his credit he did not try to push an expensive selection but concentrated on our menu choices and chose accordingly. Our main course was the lamb which included four small perfectly cooked medallions sprinkled with a dried powder of, I think, mint on a plate with its accompaniments. Desserts are extremely creative. My wife chose the Crowdie and was warned by our waiter that it is not to everyone's taste. The sea truffle gelato was good but the Katy Rogers base was, shall we say, different. She would choose something different next time but she agreed that stepping out of your culinary comfort zone has value. I chose the Swiss Roll. Unusual and delicious. In short, don't deny yourself the experience of dining at this exceptional restaurant.

I was really lucky to have found this place that I went back the next night. I happen to walk pass this restaurant on my way back to the hotel. I viewed the menu and decided I will walk in and have dinner. I had my backpack, my rolling bag, big jacket on as it was raining and looked like I was going to some diner. Despite my appearance, I was warmly welcomed and led to a table. As a single woman travelling I have learned to enjoy dinner by myself and I become more aware of the service, how friendly the staff and the food. This place is the best restaurant I have experienced and I have been to some Michelin star restaurants and this place is spectacular. The food is creative and the sommalier knows his stuff. I enjoyed wine pairings and when customized to my meal selection I find it elevates my experience. As mentioned, because I loved it so much I came back on my last night in Edinburgh to order the tasting menu. I had 3 nights in Edinburgh, my 1st dinner was at The Dome, and both nights I selected Mono. I still dream about my Mono dinner. I wish I could find a restaurant here at home similar to Mono. I highly recommend.
