Best meal we had in California
From the outside you'd have no idea what treats are in store. My son spotted the restaurant the previous day and said hey dad that looked busy. we booked and turned up and as there were only two of us decided to sit at the bar which was a great choice. Our waiter was excellent veryhelpful and attentive. He shucked our oysters and asked about our tastes. Suggested great wine and great fish. we had blackened snapper sine squid and octopus Fresh and tasty as you could hope for!

Great food and service. We have been dining here for over 20 yeas when we come to Monterey and the food and service are great. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyIconic Seafood For the Non-Traditional Traveler
Locals know where to eat. And sometimes we tourists stumble upon their favorite restaurant. This place is small, out of the tourist areas and wildly popular with fresh seafood from local fishing boats. We heard about it from friends who also stumbled upon it. Check it out online and make your reservation. We had the grilled snapper and the grilled sole, and began with the fried calamari. It's old Monterey, no tourist menu here.
Be the first to ReplyA Monterey hidden gem
We were searching for a restaurant a little “off the beaten path” of tourists. I think we have found one in Tami terry Fish House. The interior spoke of years and years of serving great seafood. We just had to try them out. Aaron was an informative, kind, and accommodating host to us at our lunch. We ordered a plate of oakwood grilled oysters. We quickly realized 6 was not enough between the two of us. So, we ordered another round! They were too generous with the salad dressing on their house salad. So, that was not great. But the fish, a perfectly grilled sea bass topped with some pesto sauce was a dream! I wish they did not overcook their side veggies. And maybe provided some variety. There was just too much zucchini. Would have liked more broccoli and other greens. My husband’s grilled baby octopus with rice and veggies was tender and tasty as well. We shared a chocolate ganache cake. I wonder if this was an old batch. The cake pieces were bone dry. The icing in between and ganache on top saved it a little. We will definitely come back. We both agreed the place shows much promise!

Be the first to ReplyBad fish in Monterey!!!
Fish was old and bad. No taste, poorly prepared. You go out because you want better than you can do at home. Calamari, hard overcooked, eggplant on top burnt! Want good fish in Monterey don’t go here
Be the first to ReplyDISHONEST MGMT AND TASTELESS SEAFOOD,
DISHONEST MGMT AND TASTELESS SEAFOOD, The tip amount was doubled on our credit charge, and the manager refused to correct it. Unless we had in our possession the actual receipt, which was not given. Who saves restaurant receipts for a few days? Get real. The shrimp in our Caesar salad tasted like it had been frozen for a couple of years. Our main course of fish had no flavor. It is a shame they have gone downhill. In our previous yearly visits the food was very good. The waitress was lovely. The regular chef was out for the holidays. The sub chef was subpar. We feel the manager could have been more helpful resolving this issue. The sub chef was subpar. We just wanted help adjusting the tip and the manager was not helpful.

We had a 5:00 reservation and arrived at 4:55, there was already a small line at the door. The doors opened at 5:00 and we were seated immediately. Clemente delivered water and bread, followed by our server, Darwin who greeted us and took our drink order. The restaurant is small and tables are positioned close together. For appetizer we had crab ravioli which was tasty but they could have been warmer. My wife had the swordfish, which was a large portion and was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. Vegetables were excellent as well. I had the Prawn pasta with vodka sauce which was good. Darwin was the star of the show taking his time to talk to us and even suggest a breakfast spot in Carmel for us. Overall, a good meal and experience.
Be the first to ReplyA great, big disappointment
A great, big disappointment; we went to the Fish House a few years back, and wanted to repeat the experience. Our oysters were almost inedible with shell fragments in most of them. Crab cakes were a a solid, pre-fab experience. The mock-jovial service did not help. We're unlikely to come back.

I heard all about the long lines, but phoned on the day (late afternoon) and booked a table ! It was excellent. Although it was REALLY busy (and yes, people queuing outside), the service and food was amazing, I had blackened snapper, pasta and veg. Delicious.

We enjoyed the banter of the waiter and he was very knowledgeable about the menu and all of the food options. We based our orders on his description of the dishes and he was pretty spot on. After enjoying some conversation and a few had drinks a different person came with the check. The check for six people was combined and we were told it couldn't be divided. We persisted, and ultimately did stubby pencil math to decide how much we each owed. The "check usher" returned and appeared frustrated with our solution. The check had an added gratuity, service fee, and taxes included. When asked about the fees, and why they couldn't give separate checks we got, "we don't do that " flatly. This place was good, but at least one person was not satisfied with their entree. Although it was enjoyable, the check somehow got pricey for some as the built-in gratuity could not be divided and it was randomly added to one or two bills. The paying hassle was a real bother and it put a damper on the entire mood and was not worth it, at all.
Be the first to ReplyGreat seafood and great prices in expensive area
Ate here on Tuesday in March arrived about 5:30-5:45 with party of 5, no reservations. We got a table quickly but within a few minutes of arriving the place was filled and there was a line of people waiting. Wait staff was extremely attentive--not sure I've ever had a water glass topped off so many times. Food arrived quickly with large portions, but more importantly very tasty. Everyone in our family really liked their orders: crab cakes and lobster ravioli; prawn linguini, and a few specials I have now forgotten. But everyone was happy and food was delicious. Hubby was also pleased because the food was less expensive than some we have had in the area but large portions and very tasty.

We were advised to make reservations, as it is small. We did and were seated shortly after our reserved time. We had a great server and the food was awesome. I would highly recommend this restaurant (with reservations).
Be the first to ReplyToo many great choices . . . we have to go back
This restaurant fills up about 5:30 pm, even during the week, so get there early. It has limited seating since it is in a remodeled house. The server was attentive and paid attention to detail. I drink my water without ice and he had the busboy refill the glass with water, no ice. The food was incredible, hot, and beautifully presented. When the waiter was giving the specials, I interrupted to say that was what I wanted. I did not want to hear more. Before the specials, I was having a hard time deciding what to pick. When the food arrived, we were delighted with our choices! We cannot wait to go back!

If I could give this establishment more than 5 stars I would! First of all we arrived at 8:32pm and they close at 8:30pm. They saw me grimace and they quickly unlocked the door. :) We got a table right beside a window and our waiter came over with a very long list of the daily specials which was very exciting to hear but to many choices to remember. We ordered from the menu - much easier. We started with artichokes and baby grilled octopus. Both were fantastic! My wife had the Alaskan halibut and I had the swordfish. Both were cooked to perfection. A nice title of Sauvignon Blanc topped the meal off. We shared a decadent cannelloni for dessert. Another great thing about this restaurant is the staff. You can really tell they loved their jobs and their exuberance trickled down to make it an extraordinary dining experience!

Visited in company with my spouse and brother-in-law and his spouse, all of us avid foodies. Recommended by my brother-in-law, the choice could not have been better! The service was professional and efficient. The menu was comprehensive, full of fresh seafood options. The food was extremely tasteful and the portion generous. My appetizer of sauteed baby octopuses was outstanding and very well cooked, luscious and not at all tough. My main course of halibut was perfectly cooked and well accompanied by tasty vegetables, like a ratatouille. The restaurant was packed from the time it opened at 5 PM, and there was line waiting when we left. One of the better points was the reasonableness of the prices, especially for the level of freshness and taste!
Be the first to Replyunassuming place in expensive area
This is clearly a popular place with locals, off the beaten path of the Monterey seaside. My clam chowder and salad were good and my partner enjoyed an order of scampi and a pint of beer. At $54 it didn't break the bank. Not fantastic, but certainly a decent meal in a lively restaurant with a pleasant vibe. Service was fine.
Be the first to ReplyGreat dinners this night!
We had a 6:30 PM reservation that our Big Sur bike tour people had to change for us to 7PM because of getting back from 17 Mile Drive a bit later than expected. We actually arrived at about 6:45 and were seated within a few minutes. Husband got the scallops in a cream sauce with mushrooms, and he said it was some of the best scallops he'd had. I got a combo dish with salmon and shrimp. I liked the shrimp, but LOVED the salmon as it was prepared so deliciously! This place was packed and I could see why because everything we had as well as our service were all very good. We thought about coming back another night, but we just ran out of days there!

Turned up without booking and had to wait 30 mins. The wait was well worth it with great food and atmosphere. Would recommend to anyone

Loved this place. Line might be a bit long but it's so worth the wait. I loved the yummy cioppino and the warm ambiance.

When we go to Monterey we always go to the Monterey Fish House and it never disappoints. My wife had halibut and I had salmon. Both had ample portions and were well prepared. We had a nice side dish of pasta and veggies. Too many great dishes for a once every other year visit.

The worstest restaurant of our 6 week trip to the USA. Very very loud Ambiente. The fish products were actually fresh but prepared without joy or passion. The plates came full splattered, the fish was swimming in a brown water (should have been the Sauce). Dessert: the ice cream dripped out of the plate. The staff was trimmed to feed as many guests as possible in a short time. A pure food dispatch! And all this for 120$ !!!!! Never again!

We found this place when driving through Monterey on our way to Big Sur for vacation the line outside is what caught our attention the food inside is what people come back to and now we agree the service was the best! What a great find, got to try it!
Be the first to ReplyGreat view, good price
Any place here has a great view. We sat at the bar and could see the bay. Alejandro was an awesome bartender, great mixology. Crunchy fish tacos had a nice bite. Burger was cooked perfect, short on fries though. Free trolley stops right at that block.

Highly recommended by locals I talked to. We went there on a Tuesday around 5:30 and there was a 25 minute wait. Went back Wednesday to be the first in line😎 for dinner service. We chose to sit at the bar. The guy at the bar was the best. He took the time to explain the specials and even explained an Entree my Buddy wanted three times. We started off with the Oak grilled oysters. I’ve never had oysters and decided to try one (it must have been the beer). It was a life changing experience. Very, very good. I had three of them. They were delicious. I’m a fan of oysters now😂. Next was the Clam Chowder. No life changing experience here. Just average. Clam pasta - excellent. Lots of clam. Food ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Service⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️, Appearance - small and crowded but clean⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Price I thought was fair. Believe the hype.
