Moti Mahal Delux New York Reviews from The Last Year
Hands down the best high end Indian food anywhere.
When we visit from California we look forward to an excellent meal and this is the place. First of all, the cauliflower is phenomenal! It was recommended with our samosa appetizer and it was so good I ordered another' for myself. I could have been very happy just eating it, the sauce was a touch spicy and just delicious. The tamarind sauce is so so good with samosas or on top of my chicken masala...also really good. Butter chicken was also very good. Someone got the lamb chops and was very happy with their choice. Dito for the tandoori chicken. My niece got the shrimp curry and loved her dish too. We were too full for dessert but couldn't stop raving our entire meal about how delicious it was. Highly recommend.
Staff were really friendly.
That is the best quality based on dining experience here. The original restaurant in India claims to be the original creator of butter chicken. Wall Street Journal pushed an article in 2/24 about the 1 original owners suing each other for the title. Anyway, if this is the quality of their butter chicken, I would not sue. Waste of legal fees as the chicken was ok. Not great. Dry and not flavourful. There are better butter chicken in NYC. Sorry, original does not mean the best.
After hearing this was a popular chain in India, I had
After hearing this was a popular chain in India, I had visions of an Indian Din Tai Fung or Ootoya. And that's pretty much the experience we got: slightly upscale, good quality Indian food in an elegant setting where you would feel equally comfortable bring a first date or your mother. - Khasta Aloo Tikki: Scrumptious - crispy aloo patties, sweet yogurt, mint sauce - Gafari Shorba: Tastes more or less like cream of chicken soup with some diced apples for crunch. Could've been more interesting if they'd added some spices. - Murgh Makhani : Is this the best butter chicken I've had? No. But it's not bad. The curry was spot on; the chicken was overcooked. - MMD Signature Chicken: Got this by accident, but I wasn't sad about it. The chicken was super tender and the curry was complex. - Lobster Masala: Not bad, though it's hard to top Semma's lobster dish. - Shahi Tukda: Whatever you do, leave room for dessert. We loved this so much, we got it twice. Flavor profile: caramom, pistachios, cream (like many Indian desserts). Delish. If you're stuck on the Upper Boring Side, don't settle for one of the overpriced, generic Italian restaurants in the area. Come here. Experience flavor.
I wanted to try more Indian places after getting some great
I wanted to try more Indian places after getting some great butter chicken at a resort in DR a few months ago. Came here with a friend, each of us ordered murgh makhani (Butter Chicken) and we split some goat biryani and some butter naan. The naan was fine, though not great. The flavor of the butter chicken was right but the chicken itself was either old or overcooked. While the goat in the biryani was a tiny bit dry I am not going to rate this too low because I forgot to make sure to ask if there was cilantro in it, there was, and i stopped eating it. I will add that, it wouldn't kill them to add ingredients to a menu. Speaking of menus, It has been 3 years since Covid. Time to bring back real menus. The place looked homey and inviting. Service was also fine.
Just right from the start: The food is good, no problem
Just right from the start: The food is good, no problem with that. Service and ambiance also good. The issue of this place is that they try to suck the dollars out of your pocket at every corner. First, they put a bottle of water on the table that is not for free. Second, rice is not included in main dishes which are not cheap to begin with. They charge $6 for one portion of rice, which you only learn when you see the final bill. Simply outrageous. Third, the portions of main dishes are barely enough. If you come in really hungry, it will not be sufficient. Fourth, when you pay they don't do a paper check but bring a digital device to the table. They obviously use this method to try to rush the payment. First they show you the list of items on the bill and a total amount without tax. The prices look unsuspicious - aside from the fact that you were not expecting a charge for rice. Then the minimum default tip shown on the device is 20%. I know that many places start doing this. But what is completely inexcusable is that they calculate the 20% from the taxed total. That is fraud, plain and simple. In the end, a meal for two that you expected to be max $70 comes in at $92. That's no good. Any customer who realizes what's happening here is rightfully upset. We will not be returning. We don't like to be fooled
My dish was ready at the estimated time for pick-up.
The staff was polite during my quick exchange. The Rarha Gosht (minced lamb meat masala) was $28 (including tax) on Grubhub for a dish that was hardly 2 cups worth!! While the dish was filled entirely of meat, the portion to cost ratio was absurd. The dish was filled with flavor, spice, and complemented well with rice and naan.
Good, not great, and with the atmosphere and price, I had
Good, not great, and with the atmosphere and price, I had been hoping for more. Moti Mahal was recommended by a friend of mine as a good place to take some friends for a special occasion. On arrival, things were looking good. The table we had reserved was spacious, the atmosphere was cozy and quiet (conducive to catching up with friends). My only complaint out of the date, was that on a cool night, the interior was very very hot. I tend to run hot though, so I'm willing to give a pass on that. Given the heat, as soon as I sat down, I poured myself a glass of water from the bottle sitting on the table. We then scanned the QR code and started looking at the drinks menu. I understand that menus were hard to keep clean during Covid, but given that we are now all back to dining in a tight space, I'm not a fan of being asked to read a menu on my phone. Especially at a nice place. Having my phone out makes it feel like a work lunch, generally just makes it feel like fast food. When the server came by to take our drink orders, we were also informed that the bottle on the table wasn't just how they dispense water, it was optional and they charge for it. I HATE this kind of trick. If there is something on the table when I set down, sitting right next to the glasses, I'm going to assume it is there for me to drink. I want to give them a 1 star review I dislike this so much, but that would not be fair. After we ordered our bottle of wine, we caught up until the server came by to do the awkward dance around tasting the bottle. Not opposed to this, it's common practice, but it seems crazy to me that they still do this but can't be bothered to give us printed menus. We then ordered the food (with some confusion) and had our meal. The food itself was unremarkable. Not bad, but given the atmosphere and price, portions were small and flavor wasn't as strong as I would have liked. All in all, I would consider takeout from here but would not eat in person again.
If you want an authentic Indian restaurant in the city then
If you want an authentic Indian restaurant in the city then look no further. Literally one of the only few places that have locations in India and they are the proud inventors of butter chicken. If you don't know what that is. Walk in. Talk to a staff member. Order the dish. And prepare to have your world changed forever. The ambiance is very authentic as well and as are the servers and chef. Highly recommend.
Great Indian
All dishes were great. Place is comfortable. Service good. Hope to go back. Dishes were excellently spiced. Deserves its Michelin rating.
Underwhelmed
Had a reservation here for dinner on a Friday night prior to going to a Broadway show. Greeted and seated right away. Restaurant has a nice ambiance - on the dimly lit side but romantic feeling. The dining tables are very small. Wine/Beer menu is small but adequate. Ordered 3 dishes: PANEER TIKKA SHASHLIK, CHATPATE BAINGAN, and MURGH MAKHANI. The food came out very quickly and all together. It felt very "squished" to eat on that table. The butter chicken was average - small portion and was expecting a more intensely spiced gravy. The eggplant dish was tasty and our favourite dish of the 3. The food could have come out hotter temperature wise). With so much restaurant competition in Manhattan there is room for improvement with Moti Mahal Delux.

Apparently this is a chain in India and London? Anyway, it certainly does not feel like a chain at all. Inside it is tastefully decorated, you can make reservations, and the setting is intimate. We tried the butter chicken, known as their signature dish, and the lobster masala. The chicken does not comes with rice and the lobster came with a tiny lump of jazzed up basmati rice (no idea else how to describe it)which was enough for me because I also had my meal with some garlic naan. Otherwise, an order of rice is good for 2 people, maybe three is your are not overdoing it with the rice. Both dishes were a little spicy, but not overwhelming. The lobster was served in the tail cut up into small chunks in its fragrant sauce. I would come here again if in the area.
We've been in this neighborhood for a bit more than 2 1/2
We've been in this neighborhood for a bit more than 2 1/2 years, and whenever we walk by this place, it's busy. We have a perfectly good Indian restaurant a block away from our home, but I've wanted to try this one. Saturday night, we wanted dinner and a walk, so without a res we decided to just go and take our chances. No problem, as t turned out! The ambiance is upscale, soft lighting, soft music, white tablecloths. There's a small dining room with a bar, but clever decor with mirrors makes it seem larger. Then there's an indoor/outdoor space that is indoors but like a glassed-in porch. Pretty, and comfortable. My only negative is that darn QR-code menu. Call me old-school, but I like a printed one. Perhaps if we'd asked, they have that, but we do have phones and we do know how to use them, so w rolled with it. I'd say vegetarian menu options are maybe a dollar or so more than usual, and they are a bit different than the usual, but the food is really really good! There are several appetizers. We often order a bhel puri chaat as a shared appetizer. Here it's quite different, called dahi puri chaat. It was 5 small filled shells, with yogurt and chickpeas and a few pomegranate seeds. They were delicious! When I told our server that we really liked it, she suggested that next time we try their palak patta chaat, so we will. My husband's entree was called subz panchmael, a "vegetable mélange" in a garlic tomato masala. He's not a spice guy, and the server explained that everything is medium but could be adjusted, so he asked for and received a mild sauce. His go-to is usually chana saag but here they list only saag paneer, so he stepped out of his comfort zone and was very impressed! I often get baingan bharta but the eggplant dish here is called chatpate baingan. Rather than the usual mush, this has distinct chunks of soft, melt-y, eggplant in an excellent flavorful sauce. I like spicy and had told the server when she took our order, and my dish had a tingly kick to it. Yum! I'd overheard our server at another table talk about lemon rice, so we ordered that. Pricey, but really unique and tasty. We also had 1 order of roti, which was delivered warm and a bit crisp at the edges, just perfect Chose not to order any dessert (& only tap water), but we had a fantastic meal and lovely service, in a beautiful atmosphere. We'll definitely be back!
Amazing Indian restaurant
Little restaurant not to big. Romantic atmosphere and the windows looking on the street is so nice. The Indian food excellent and not expensive. I recommend.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.

Need to cancel a bid, not getting a response… how do I do it? |
Click on "Take off the Market Option" in your portfolio
Working on your bid? |
Your bid has been “matched” with a reservation. From the time a reservation has been located, the seller of the reservation must connect with moderator to give transfer information for reservation. If the seller;however, does NOT respond to reservation transfer, then your bid is reprocessed and returns to the first step, which is connecting your request to a reservation.
Process after bid is accepted. |
Hey @EvocativeFold67, welcome to appointmenttrader! Once the reservation is in your portfolio, you definitely own the timeslot, the review team would not have approved the trade if the reservation wasn't confirmed - so you are going :-) Judging from your post you bid today and are going tomorrow - don't worry as long as you initiated the name transfer, you are good - the transfer service has to work with the opening hours of the reservation team of the respective venue. You will likely see the transfer confirmation a couple hours before your reservation time.
Where do the Reservations on AppointmentTrader come from? |
Mostly from people who don't need their reservations or appointments any longer. AT has no relationship with places listed and acts as a platform connecting buyers and sellers making sure that listed reservations are real and that privacy is not compromised when transacting.
What happens if my bid expires unanswered? |
Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.

Give the best answerNewbie sellers— how fast do your reservations sell?
I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

This app is a catfish and overrun by people programming “bots” and algorithms. It makes it frustrating for someone not well versed in this to have any movement. I thought this would be a fun side hustle, but unfortunately it’s become like any other “side hustle”. Don’t waste your time with this crap. Not a question, just a suggestion. Also don’t pay these fake “gurus” hundreds of dollars to teach you. Might as well sign up for a software class. 😕
