A friend recommended this to me as a restaurant rather than a cheese shoppe (they are connected). It's an open, bright, airy spot in Long Island City, easily accessible from Manhattan, right next to the subway stop. Service was great. The people are awesome, so I want to get that out of the way immediately. The food is, of course, cheese based. I went during brunch, so my choices were a little more limited. For brunch they have Mac n cheese (I'm sure that's decadent and heavy!). They have a butter board and ciabatta. They have soups: French onion, chicken noodle, tomato. Breakfast sandwiches, quiche, melts, and more. I had the brunch burger, which had a decent flavor, but wasn't my favorite. Though topped with an egg, it was a little underwhelming. If doing brunch again, I would do the meat and cheese board (multiple options to mix and match cheese and meat and various price levels), and a few other small sides, or maybe the quiche. Lunch and dinner expands a bit: Brussel sprouts, salads, poutine, cheese curds, sliders, lobster bisque, burrata (I'm going to start putting this in every review--when will this trend die?!). There are also entrees, such as mushroom risotto, meatloaf, turkey shepherds pie, rasta pasta. I had a couple of cocktails that were wildly underwhelming, so I recommend going with wine. Why five stars with all the complaints? One, service is so cool and welcoming. Two, I just didn't capitalize on the best parts of this place. It's not a cocktail bar. Don't hone in on the cocktails. Two, the dishes are fine, but this place is best for: first dates or casual outings where you enjoy a cheese and/or meat board with wine. Then maybe stroll next door to buy some of the cheeses you tried. Also, don't fall into the trap of thinking this place is an independent little NY shoppe. This place is owned by Kroger. Cool place, just know what it is, and set yourself up for success. And one more time: the service here--the people--are awesome, now matter what.
