We booked to stay at the Radisson Vanderbilt as we were at the Albert Hall for a concert. The check in staff were very welcoming and we asked for a quiet room. Unfortunately, the first room was road facing and due to the older nature of the building you could hear everyone talking and walking on the squeaky floorboards along the corridor so we asked to be moved. The second room had what can only be described as an aircraft engine sized air con unit directly outside the window so there was a constant hum in the room. The third offering was equally noisy albeit with a smaller aircon unit outside. At the 4th attempt we settled on a room at the top of the hotel away from everyone with it’s own corridor. On returning from our concert, as soon as we entered our room there was an overpowering strong smell of "smoke". We called the Duty Manager who agreed with us. We told him we couldn’t possibly sleep there and wanted to leave the hotel. We subsequently spent over an hour in the hotel reception going round in circles regarding the refund for our room. The night staff were very unhelpful, deliberately obstructive, and rude. It was also very late by this point. So eventually after resorting to phoning the Radisson main helpline twice, the Duty Manager gave us our refund and we left the hotel. We lodged a complaint with Radisson regarding the way in which we were treated and of course more importantly how anyone was able to access and smoke in our room! The hotel is also a non-smoking building. We did not receive any email confirmation of our complaint as promised so resorted to contacting via social media to which we received quite a standard reply without dealing with any of our issues. So, despite asking for this to be escalated appropriately, no one has either telephoned us or responded to the serious nature of our complaint. Therefore, we shall never use this hotel chain ever again. Clearly, they don’t seem to care about their customers and as such don’t deserve our business.
