I wish some of these Indian restaurants would put a little
I wish some of these Indian restaurants would put a little more effort into customer service. I arrived at the restaurant around 6-6:30pm. There was a couple standing in front of me. We stood there at the entrance, waiting to be seated for maybe 3 mins. No sign of anyone. I picked up my phone and just called up the restaurant. Finally someone came out of the kitchen to answer the phone and she realized it was me calling her. She got us seated. Everything was digital, so there was no need for me to wait for any service. -- Gobi Manchurian : such a disappointment, it tasted more ketchupy and didn't have the semi crispness that it should have ++ Chicken appetizer: loved it ++ For the entre, I ordered the mutton dish. I thought it was a 4/5. The parathas that accompanied this complimented it's taste -- Masala dosa: I can't believe that they would completely mess up the chutneys. IDK if it's cost cutting, but the chutneys were bland. I'd even say they over diluted it with water. What a shame

Restaurant specializes so much in take out orders that going there to eat is a frustrating experience. I was really excited to have South Indian food but I was very disappointed in the quality and taste. Have tried this place a few times just because they are close by and a couple of times I got food poisoning from eating their food. Will not go there again!

Stopped here for lunch after seeing Lunch combos on their menu. That looked interesting and opted for it ahead of the other buffet place. The location was quite weird. Wasn't sure whether the GPS was taking us to the right place until we arrived. It pretty much looked like an office building. The interior is nicely done. They have a very nice waiting area, well decorated. There weren't many customers around when we arrived. We were seated on the far side of the restaurant. No menu available. We have to scan the QR code and order on the app. We went ahead and ordered the lunch combo. They have one appetizer, choice of 2 curries, rice, bread and dessert for $12.99. Looked pretty decent. Picked up Chicken curry & Veg chettinadu for first combo and chicken & paneer butter masala for the other. Also ordered a chicken 65 on the side. Almost took them 15 minutes for the dood to arrive. Talking about the combos, it disappointed me. The chicken curry was good - flavorful. The Paneer masala was underwhelming! What they served as Veg Chettinadu was not even close to what that dish really is. I thought it was Sambar and they made a mistake. The guy who served the food and also the lady who was in charge - both tried their best to convince that it was Veg Chettinadu. They even served me a bowl of sambar to prove it. The best part was Chicken 65. It was really good. Well cooked, but not oily, flavorful and delicious! Happy that we ordered that on the side. Their menu is very big. So many options. The Combo was really underwhelming. But the Chicken 65 gave the hint that their ala carte might be a better option. But very much disappointed with the food!

Way too big of a menu, the price is great, just sell less stuff and master those dishes because a lot were mediocre.
Be the first to ReplyWe came here on Sunday and caught the buffet.
It was delicious. Service was friendly, prompt, and attentive. I've eaten in many Indian food restaurants and most of the dishes were spot on in the buffet. Chai tea was complimentary with refills. Prices were very good and I will definitely return, which is high praise. Their location isn't great so look for, it's worth the hunt.

Be the first to ReplyThis is a mixed bag review.
Walked into a completely empty restaurant, which could have been assumed as being closed, partial lights, no tables set. Understand it was a Monday eve, but inviting it was not. I had friends meeting me so proceeded to alert that I was there, suddenly someone carrying take out pops out of the back. They pointed me one of the few 6 person tables in the restaurant, very tight and awkward to get in and out of. It did not feel dirty just old and rickety. The service was fine, nothing to write home about, the menu pretty extensive. Most of the time they were not in sight. Now without factoring the atmosphere/service the food was very tasty and satiating. Though we ordered 2 portions of samosas, 1 had 2 the other 3, 1 had chutney the other amli sauce, so strange! They do a solid take out business so forsee any future interactions to be just that. Take out.
Be the first to ReplyI got take out on Christmas Day and really enjoyed my food.
I had to wait over 20 minutes past the given pick up time; I expected to wait a bit on Christmas Day, however, I would've preferred a more accurate pick up time as I rushed from my previous location to make sure I was there on time. They did offer free drinks to those waiting for food pick up, so that was a nice and thoughtful gesture. I ordered tikka masala, mild spicy, with double chicken and paneer. Very yummy! I couldn't imagine not getting double chicken; the serving I got did not feel like a double serving, so a normal serving must not be a lot. The paneer was perfectly made with the right amount of firmness and tartness. The curry was delicious. Besides the first naan on top, the garlic naan was lacking in the garlic department. It was still warm and soft, and soaked up the curry well. I left no crumbs! The mild spicy still had a good heat to it that was perfect for me. I had a decent tolerance for heat, so I was surprised I could still taste the heat. Be careful if you don't handle spice well!

We love the dosas at Nala's! My favorite is masala dosa with sambar & coconut chutney. My kids love the plain dosas with sambar. We like the extensive menus and the staff. The online ordering in the restaurant they did briefly was NOT good, so I'm glad the last few times they've taken our orders in person.
Be the first to ReplyThe chicken tika masala tastes like tomato sauce.
I also added the hot option but they didn't actually add it.
Be the first to ReplyThis is seriously a hidden gem in Austin.
My family gets takeout every week and they never disappoint. Try the mushroom curry and the gobi Manchurian.

Takes hours to give grub hub drivers their food Literally is cold when given. Only had two groups seated and still chose to ignore the drivers and takeout people. Even had a couple waiting a hr for they're food. Not worth your time and the staff are rude.

**********SCAM ALERT**********Don't ever go to this restaurant . Every food we ordered was cold and quality of food was very bad. They are not willing to replace the food too. 1) Ordered unlimited parotta - no side was given and they just heated the frozen parotta 2) Ordered dosa - Can't believe how they could deliver a cold dosa 3) Veg kuruma was cold and tasted very bad 4) lunch box - taste was really bad . Food was half cooked Service was very bad . The only good thing we ate were onions and lemon that was given as toppings . Wasted 100$
Be the first to ReplyGreat South Indian fare.
We ordered a big lunch with Mysore masala dosa, rasam, idly & vada combo and kotu parotta. The kids got paneer butter masala with naan. The food was fresh, authentic and arrived pretty quickly. Our favorite was filter coffee to finish up a great big meal. Definitely going back to try the other things on the menu!
Be the first to ReplyProbably the worst staff and food in austin.
I don't really understand how they are open. I've gon over 4 times and hated it every time from the experience of terrible rude heartless staff or the stuff they call food here. I'd rather go to the chain across the street. I've run out of options

Let me preface this by saying I've never eaten here; I deliver for Uber Eats and have delivered from this restaurant a handful of times. Absolutely the worst, most unprofessional staff I've ever seen. Waited several minutes before anyone even showed up to the front desk. When I asked about the order I was picking up I was met with silence. 10 minutes goes by and I ask again "Hi, I'm here picking up X order, can you tell me how long it'll be?" No response. Like I'm not even there. 20 minutes goes by and the front desk employee reappears. I ask again: "I've been here 20 minutes now. Can you please tell me if the order is anywhere close to being done?" Yet again, ignores me as if I don't exist. Either their front desk completely ignored me the whole time or he didn't speak English. Either one is ridiculous. I've never seen more than 3 parties ever in this establishment so it's not like they're packed and can't get my order out. There was ONE person in the restaurant at the time this happened and after 25 minutes of waiting I still had no order or any indication it had even been started. Giant waste of my time, absolutely ludicrous wait times, and horrible unprofessional staff. I'd give it 0/5 if I could.

The food is good that it far makes up for the service and lights that are too bright. Highly recommend getting here as quick as you can before it gets busy because I foresee a James Beard award next year.

This place is not it. I wish I would've read the Yelp reviews before ordering. The veg samosas were good. But that's about all the praise I have. The chicken tikka masala, was watery to the point my fiancรฉ just called it tomato soup. There was barely any chicken in the ... soup... at all. He also requested it hot spicy. He said he couldn't even taste a mild spice in the sauce. The rice is definitely not basmati rice. Seems like it's maybe Jasmine uncle ben's or something. My veg street noodles were edible. They were alright. Not alright enough to save how we feel about this place. Hard pass.

Whole place stinks inside. Saffron south is the only amazing indian food ive had in austin
Be the first to ReplyThis place used to be average when it first started in
This place used to be average when it first started in South Austin. Now it's terrible. I have been ordering here on and off for last one year as there are no other restaurants in South Austin which have idli/dosa dishes. I have been given stale chutneys and sambhar in take outs. Not to mention, watery butter paneer and veg curries that mostly have potatoes. I was so upset about such food given to me three different times (ordered in the last 8 months) that I had complained to the manager and owner. But they failed to make the food atleast edible. The only reason this restaurant is still open in south is because of lack of competitors.

My boyfriend and I ordered Nala's through Uber eats very late one night right before they closed. We got a buy one get one free of the chicken tikka masala, the jumbo paneer tikka masala, naan, chapanthi, and the vegetable pakora. We were pleasantly surprised to get a gigantic amount of food! I know sometimes restaurants will get rid of some of their food that they'll have to throw away if it's close to the end of the night. We ended up getting SO MUCH naan and an extra order of 4 samosas with chutney. Also gave us extra rice. For the price, it was such a great deal! The curry was tomatoey, creamy, and a little bit spicy (we got medium, I could definitely go for hot or extra hot next time). The chicken tikka masala curry was a little stronger than the paneer but both were still tasty. The chicken was tender and flavorful and the paneer was big and chunky! The samosas were excellent, full of spices and herbs and gigantic! The naan wasn't crispy but was still good. The vegetable pakora was a bit soggy from the peppers and onions but still had good flavor, just probably wouldn't order this to go again. Would definitely order again! Especially for the buy one get one free chicken tikka masala! They were full portions, not "combined" like some other bogo Indian food I've seen on Uber eats.
Be the first to ReplyDownloaded Yelp, because I've already reviewed on google,
Downloaded Yelp, because I've already reviewed on google, and I can't give this place enough bad reviews. You can walk into this place and wait 10-15 before even seeing an employee. Not like they are busy with someone else, like there are no employees in the front of the business. After waiting someone will come out to let you know that it's going to be another 20 minutes for your order. Do not go here for pick up, dine in, or anything else. Terribly run business, which is a shame, because it's a good location.
