Nancy's Hustle Houston Reviews from The Last Year
If you are wanting a cute spot for sharables and great
If you are wanting a cute spot for sharables and great food, this is it! The service was impeccable and the restaurant was adorable. We loved the burger and the Parmesan & Pancetta Croquettes!
The ambiance is amazing.
They have a record player at the door. Enough said. The staff was friendly to this visitor from the Pacific Northwest. And the food...well, i have to say the cheeseburger was the most amazing burger I've had hands-down. From coast to coast, I must say that Nancy has perfected it. The Nancy cakes...light, golden & the butter, oh my!!! If i had more time and wasn't trying all varieties of food, I would have come back the next night. Will certainly revisit on a return trip.

Shh.. don't tell anyone. This is the best restaurant in Houston. The prices of food and cocktails/beer/wine/NA cocktail list are accessible to all. On top of this, the food is excellent and the wine program is excellent, and the staff clearly love working there. What else could you want?
Average Food and Above-Average Rudeness
I've never encountered so much rudeness from a restaurant in all my life! First off, the hostess was most likely either drunk or on a high dose of prescription pills. She told us when we got there that there would be a 35 to 45-minute wait, even though we had reservations. We told her that was fine because the place was busy that night. Even though we were fine with it, she became defensive and rude, as if we were arguing with her or verbally attacking her, which we were not. She did seem impaired. Others waiting said the same thing. When we were seated, our waitress was absolutely hateful and made mean faces at us. I have no clue as to why. We tried to be nice to her, but she wasn't having it. She kept reminding us that there was a two-hour limit on the table within the first 10 minutes that we were seated. When our food came out, it was just dropped onto the table, without a word said. We just sorted it out and ate. The food wasn't bad, but it was nothing great. We definitely didn't want to hang around long enough to reach that two-hour limit. It was too loud in there, and the arrogance was THICK! How this place has been nominated twice for a James Beard Award is beyond me!
I went there for a girls night dinner.
We sat outside and the atmosphere was amazing. We ordered appetizers to share and had to order double because they were so good. We didn't have to wait too long for the food even though they were busy. Definitely recommend this for a date or girls night.
LOVED this spot! The eclectic flavor combinations really
LOVED this spot! The eclectic flavor combinations really worked here. The spicy pork & butter dumplings in the yogurt & dill was SO good. Everything was really great here. The service was amazing, the vibes insides are immaculate and gives a very 70s vibe. Went for my birthday dinner because this spot has been on my list for years. It definitely lived up to the hype & all the lists rating this as a top Houston restaurant!

This restaurant was such a fun date night! My boyfriend and I sat at the bar and the staff was so helpful and kind. The food was great! We got the burger, Nancy cakes, and a pumpkin pasta! The atmosphere was so nice and cozy!
We just finished an outstanding meals at NH.
First, the food was outstanding. We started with the dumplings which were really good. Lots of fresh dill. My wife had the chicken since she is allergic to fish and the ribeye had some fish seasoning for umami. The chicken with the roasted fennel was fantastic. I mean really good. Would recommend in a heartbeat. I had the ribeye which came with a rice side. I will say that I don't think the quality of the beef was anything to write home about, but the way it was prepared was pretty freaking amazing. The sauce for the beef was something as was the rice with the beef fat and crispy shallots. I would order the ribeye again for sure. I forgot to add that we also had the potato sourdough with butter with the dumplings. ORDER THE BREAD! I forgot to mention that we started with cocktails which were quite good. My wife had an old-fashioned and I had a gin drink recommended by our waiter (gin, mint, lime). Second round was another old-fashioned and a smoked mezcal sazerac. Very good. Dessert was fantastic. We did was we never do - ordered the dessert with the paired drink. Cheesecake and Madeira and cocoa almonds with coffee. WOW!!! Both paired were excellent. Ethan was our waiter - took great care of us. Good recommendations. I'd ask for Ethan again. We've been to NH twice before years ago. Now I remember why this place is such the buzz. GO!!!!! You won't regret it. We sat inside which was fine. Next time, we'll try the patio.
Great food, great service and loved the ambiance.
It feels like a hole in the wall kind of spot and it delivered in every way for the fine dining feel.
Nothing but great things to say for one of the best
Nothing but great things to say for one of the best resturants in Houston. Highly recommend the nancy cakes!
Kim was phenomenal!!! Perfect suggestions, impeccable table
Kim was phenomenal!!! Perfect suggestions, impeccable table maintenance, great vibes and a warm energy. The food was delicious and inventive. Don't skip out on the lamb tartare.
This was my first time at Nancy and will not be my last.
The ambience of the restaurant is calm and fun. The wall art speaks for itself and the open kitchen is a fun touch. I will say this was the first restaurant where I didn't hear the kitchen that much. All the chefs were calm, quiet, focused. It was wonderful to watch. We ordered a variety of food with the help of our wonderful server, Heather. She was incredible and worked with me on my dietary restrictions for being pregnant. She recommended several cocktails that the team can turn into mocktails. Same thing with the butter on the Nancy cakes, the aioli on the burger - she attended to my needs like a gold star. Heather...you are amazing! Overall the food was so delicious and I plan to go back again the following month. I love that the menu changes too.
Ambiance and Service is really top notch.
Food is great too, but didn't hit the spot for me. I came here with a friend on a Sunday for dinner and found no wait luckily. The wait staff and our server were really friendly and casual which I think really fit the vibe. The interior is just gorgeous as well. We ordered a few items off the menu to share, such as the croquettes which I really enjoyed because they were soft and flavorful, their octopus dish, which honestly had a strange flavor that me and my friend did not necessarily like, and their ravioli, I thought it was better but not a favorite. Their fries and desserts were also good! I would come back to try a new menu or other dishes!

Came on a Thursday night kind of last minute and it was packed. We were estimated a 30 minute wait but seated in about 10. It was FREEZING inside the patio looked lovely and lively. We had a table inside closest to the kitchen our waitress was very knowledgeable but dare I say over explained the menu lol. It's a very hipster establishment and shows in the menu. We shared the Nancy cakes which I felt were pricey at $19 for 4 pieces despite the trout roe. They were tasty though. I had the snapper entree. They prepared the snapper like a salmon filet which I haven't had before and the top was burnt but otherwise was a solid dish. My friend had the burger which was quite wide but is a smash burger that's cooked through. I also had a cocktail that was a riff on a whiskey sour and it was ok. All in all it was good and glad I tried it but not at the top of my list for places to return. Parking: lot behind the building with about 10 spots and then lots of street parking.
I still dream bout the rib eye I had a month ago.
It was delicious. Will order again. And I absolutely recommend the sourdough bread. It's made in house. The ambience was nice and the server was attentive but gave enough space to enjoy the food and the atmosphere. Great date spot!
Came here recently with my family but unfortunately
Came here recently with my family but unfortunately received bad service. After ordering 5 plates to share we were told their robot speech that we needed to order entrees at once or what we were thinking of ordering to help the kitchen. When we said that we were not in a rush and would rather take our time, our surly waitress got defensive and snapped that a steak would take up to 45 mins to make. She went off in a huff and later when we did order again, the food came out in 10 minutes! Exactly why I said to her that we didn't want to order right away. Won't be returning due to the bad service .
Very Adorable! I have been to Nancy's Hustle once.
Not for bad reason but because I don't have time. That one time I went was for Mother's Day and my mom recommended it. First off the service was amazing. Very personal with customers and put a lot of thought into the experience for us. They have an allergy policy and they really taken it into consideration. Now the food was delicious! One thing tho was I didn't see a lot of stuff for myself to eat honestly but I'm pretty sure I could've found more. The area is small but very comfy and cozy. Candles light up the tables and it's nice overall!
Great food and pretty much afooordable.
Y'all should better try this joint. The service was perfection and it is a pretty decent place. 'tis a good spot for a quiet meal with.
Tried this place for the first time and I was blown away.
We all shared dishes and all of it was good! Definitely coming back.
Met a friend for happy hour.
Stayed much longer. Service was great and food did not disappoint. Will be bringing the hubby to try it out.

The food were all fantastic! The menu was extensive and lots of food to offer. A bit pricey but its reasonable with the quality of the food they have. They have so many excellent food options. We always have pleasant dinner there, as the restaurant has elegant vibe, very romantic too. The bar area offers cool cocktails and wines were amazing. Ordered the Lamb Dumplings, Nancy Cakes, and Lamb Tartare which taste really delicious and has decent flavor. Great quality ingredients. The staff were friendly and served food promptly.
Worse service and rating therefore poor
Food great however never had such bad service and the experience was therefore not what was expected from a #1 restaurant. Actually I should have been more observant, as the first wine pour was lower than the second. We are visiting from NYC so therefore more disappointing! The hostess did try to make amends by subtracting our 2 wine and 2 beer! We have of course great experience in dining both at home and internationally!
Nancy cakes are manna from heaven
We dined here in a party of three. The wait staff is skilled and well mannered. The food is original and tasty and well presented. The atmosphere is nice, two rows of tables in front of the kitchen, 50’s milk-glass pendant lights and eclectic nick nacks. The Nancy cakes are like refined, elevated cornbread pucks with heavenly cultured butter and salty trout roe on top …I dream about them still. The octopus is great, the beef and butter dumplings are delicious. The capellini and poached swordfish is very nice. Pass on the corn crepe cake with white chocolate mousse; it doesn’t live up to the rest of the menu. I can’t wait to go back!
Disappointed! And mystified at the good reviews
We finally managed to go to this restaurant, which we’ve wanted to do for a long time. The drinks were nothing special. Ambience was okay. The starters (Nancy’s cakes and spicy beef dumplings) were excellent, and we looked forward to the rest of the meal. Alas, it was downhill from there. The Capellini with poached swordfish was mildly flavored and nothing to crow about. The wood grilled half chicken was generous, but the breast meat was too fleshy and did not have any flavor. The Parmesan cheesecake tasted exactly like what it was. A strangely flavored cheesecake with honey and black pepper on top. The Watermelon Kombucha granita was a bit better, but marginally so. Tasted like flavored ice chips with candied pieces thrown in. Service, though efficient, was detached and restaurant staff generally had a markedly morose demeanor. Kind of mystified at the high ratings. Maybe we missed the good days….
If you want management to be your mommy
The food is excellent. The wait staff was wonderful. The management obviously does need patrons to be return guests. My husband is visually impaired. He was scolded by Christina (manager) when he was using his phone light to read the menu. Really? Who yells at someone at their restaurant for wanting to see the menu? Selling food is their business. To sell the food, you need to sell the restaurant. Epic fail.
One of the very best all around dining experiences in Houston.
Husband and I just had a the most amazing experience at Nancy's Hustle. From the Hostess (entrance) to the wait staff and bartenders. Like being in the East Village but you are in Houston. We enjoyed the Nancy Cakes, Beef dumplings, Parmesan Croquettes, Chicken and Shrimp. Best flavors, not to much just perfect. Each plate was plated so well and presented by wonderful servers. Our table was serviced at just the right time between each plate with no rushed feeling. We had mocktails and they were terrific.
