I work in hospitality, and I find it unbelievable that there are places like this, that leave it to their delivery drivers to make an apology for their errors.
We ordered through Just Eat, in the knowledge that the wait would be 60 - 70 minutes. And yet, as we began to wonder where our food was, the app told us ‘the restaurant’s added 30 minutes to your delivery’. So I rang them up, to ask why.
I gave a perfectly polite request for a reason for the delay, to which there was no response, only an assurance that the food was going to be on it’s way. I asked if there was any chance we could have some money off our order for the inconvenience, as we would never have ordered from them if we had been aware that it would be a 2 hour wait. The gentleman on the phone treated it as if I had asked for an entire refund, and said ‘I can take the food back and you can request a refund through Just Eat... we don’t give out free food’.
‘I’m not asking for the full amount, just a small discount as an apology for the inconvenience’.
The response...
‘You’re horrible. If you want, give the driver the food back and take your refund, goodbye’...
There is never an excuse to treat a paying customer in this way, and either the man on the phone needs a stern talking to, or a serious rethink needs to be had about why they’re in this business at all.
We ate the food.
