Nothing Special
Ate here with friends. Husband had Prime Rib and I ordered Loco Moco. We also had appetizers… had Wings and Korean Short Ribs. Prime Rib didn’t have much flavor… was simply a slab of meat. Moco Loco was nothing like what we get in Hawaii. My favorite was the Korean Short Ribs, they would be a 5 in my book!
Be the first to ReplyGreat inexpensive food!
While visiting Las Vegas, we decided to visit downtown and found dinner in the California Casino at the Market Street Cafe. I loved my Country Fried Steak which was very satisfying while my wife enjoyed her Saimin. Service was excellent. I would recommend the restaurant to anyone seeking satisfying comfort food.
Be the first to ReplyEnjoyable Lunch
We had an enjoyable lunch here. The friendly waitresses, the island theme menu and decor all made us feel like we’re back in relaxing Hawaii. The zippy’s award winning chili was the standout with a rich, well-balanced flavor and good texture. The Caesar salad tasted fresh with just the right amount of dressing. The daily special ribeye steak with a savory teriyaki sauce was done perfectly. They made good macaroni salad here. Our dining companions liked their teriyaki chicken and katsu curry as well.

Be the first to ReplyPrime Rib melted in my mouth.
Oh my goodness. The prime rib was to die for. So tender, melted in my mouth and tasted wonderful. They cooked it just right, medium rare. I had to leave some on my plate which I hated to do but I was too full. It was only $18.99 and we got a large salad, baked potato and their veggie of the day. And to finish our meal off they served us Cherries Julibee for desert which also to die for. Wish they were closer. For you that like Oxtail Soup that is their specialty and a lot of people were ordering that. I believe they serve it until they run out and maybe just at certain times. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is inside the California Hotel in downtown Vegas. Get there early so you don't have to wait in a long line.
Be the first to ReplyA evening to remeber!
The service was outstanding. I ate at the counter because I was alone that evening. That turned out to be a wise choice! The lady behind the took my order and was very friendly. I had the prime rib dinner and it was excellent. It came with a large salad and a baked potato. the steak was huge and it was cooked perfectly. i ordered it cooked medium and it was so good very tender and just the right amount of seasoning! The real treat came when the bus lady took the order for drinks. She was always there being very attentive always checking to see if I needed anything else. Her personality was very infectious and she was very beautiful! her name was Darline, the name on her nametag she was wearing. She made my dining experience so perfect. She is someone I will not soon forget. The wonderful meal the service I got from the buss person Darline just convinced me to make this a weekly event if not dining there with even more frequency! Can't wait to visit again and hope to see Darline there if I'm lucky!
Be the first to ReplyPhotos added. Lunch at The California
It has been a few years, but my wife and I wanted to give Market Street Cafe another try. We were seated immediately and both had an Iced Tea. My wife had the Saimin Soup that she enjoyed. I had the Steak and Eggs with Hash Browns and an English Muffin. Everything was fine, except the steak was way overcooked for medium-well. I smothered it with Hines 57 and it worked. The service was pure Aloha and I will return again soon. Be sure to validate your parking (the food bill must be $30 or more).
Be the first to ReplyExcellent prime rib among a number of great choices.
The hostess kept everyone in line informed that the wait for the restaurant and the food would be greater since they only had two cooks. This was not the case, as it took only 20 minutes to get a table and no longer than usual to get our food. Our waiter, ‘YoungK’ and the staff were great: Attentive, quick, friendly which I would have thought have been impossible as the place was jumpin. The restaurant did not have the Vegas smoke smell, but unfortunately the line to get in is in the casino, so we wore our masks, and we were not the only ones (thank you Covid for making this look normal). We both ordered the prime rib special and couldn’t believe the size and taste of the cut. Outstanding. You get salad, vegetable, baked potato and dessert for one reasonable price. Lots of other delicious looking specials that we will have to come back to try. They are known for their Oxtail soup, but it is only available after 9 pm and subject to be sold out. There also was a surf and turf special only available late at night.
Be the first to ReplyFriendly Staff, Fast, Efficient, Great Food
Ate Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner here, all were delicious. Food served very fast and hot. Staff helpful and friendly. More bang for your buck.
Be the first to ReplyResonable wholesome food.
I've rated this restarant as "average" but let me say, I like average, average is what I'm after. I'm a simple person with simple taste. I came to this restarant on September 4th quite by accident after another nearby restarant was so full it had a line out the door. I lined up for less than 5 minutes and because I'm a solo traveller I was seated at the counter top which was fine for me. I was given some coffee a couple of minutes after sitting down and my order was taken about 10 minutes after sitting down. I was warned due to them being very busy food was taking longer than useual. It took about 30-40 minutes to get my food. I ordered the moco loco which was beautiful! Looked great in the bowl and tasted even better, I was well happy with the food. It's simple, honest food. Nothing too fancy or over the top. Sure, my experience took longer than I was hoping but I understood they were busy. Vegas as a whole seemed way more busy during this trip. Anyways, long story short, would I come here again? YES! Would I recommend you to come here? YES! Great food. The moco loco costs around $13 and it certainly filled me right up.
Be the first to ReplyVery Good Food in a "Meh" Atmosphere
The atmosphere is dated and worn, perhaps from the 90's. But the food and service was very good! I had fish and chips, which were crispy outside, tender inside. The fries were hot, crisp, and thankfully not too salty (one of my pet peeves). It was good sustenance, generous portions, and fair pricing. All with friendly service that aimed to please. The menu is American diner meets Hawaiian, so they offer mainstream food and some more adventurous items.
Be the first to ReplyBest Oxtail soup in DTLV, actually only oxtail soup in DTLV
Oxtail, saimin, Moco loco, Portuguese sausage and eggs. Never disappoint! I've gone outta my way even if I'm at a hotel on the strip just to get their famous oxtail soup. The lines are crazy.. as your waiting half drunk and deciding on whether you need to yack or not, the second your seated and you take a spoonful of that broth ....gooodness the enticing flavors just make you feel like a new person. This place makes me happy!! Yes oxtail rocks!!
Be the first to ReplyStale, Old, Reheated French Fries and borderline Cold Chili Served here...
On a recent weekday afternoon, during a busy, lunch hour, I sat at the counter inside the Market Street Cafe and ordered the Patty Melt and a bowl of Zippy's Chili. In all fairness the Patty Melt was good, however, the fries that were served with it were definitely re- heated, old and stale, far from the meaning fresh. it was obvious they did not want to throw them out and save money by trying to pass them off to a paying customer. There is NO way the chef who plated these fries did not know they were old and inedible. Well it did not work, instead they lost a customer. The Chili was also not served at the proper temperature, and after I was served my waitress was gone and nowhere to be found, at least the bus person was able to fill my water. Overall a poor experience, with simply poor food, Thus the Overall rating of POOR!
Be the first to ReplyGood, this time
We come here almost every trip, 3-4 times a year. Hubby always gets the oxtail soup. He said it was as good as always this time. I wish there were more late night options. I struggle to find something that sounds good late at night. Some French toast and some more breakfast options would be greatly appreciated. But, this time I tried the steak and eggs and it was pretty good. I would order it again.
Be the first to ReplyQuick breakfast before the ariport
This place has spam, and a Hawaiian vibe. I had rice with my Portuguese sausage omelet. Reasonably priced and assorted menu items.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time here, very impressed
Our first time to this restaurant, and the food was very good. Four of us all had the prime rib dinner. It was $13.99, and came with a choice of potato, salad, broccoli (which was cold), and dessert of cherries jubilee. As I saw other entrees go by, they all looked good. We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Hawaii Local Favorites!
The California Hotel and Casino Las Vegas caters to Hawaii tourists, and, being originally from Honolulu, i live in Las Vegas now and this place is great for Hawaii local favorites! Great Fried Saimin and the number one must have Zippys from Hawaii Chili! Always a popular place to come for many years.
Be the first to ReplyGreat service and Great food!!
We had a promotional deal for staying at the property and this was one of the only resaurants open here, due to the current situation we are supposedly in. We really enjoyed our dinner and the wait staff was great from greeting us to the time we settled the check. Even with the pandemic, there was a small line to get in and the place was full, this could be due to the fact that its the only place open but I dont think so. I had the Asian Soup Combo, which I highly recommend, my wife had the club which she said was excellent!! Give it a try when your downtown!
Be the first to ReplyHere for prime rib special
Usually if it’s near dinner time and I’m around the California casino I come here for the prime rib special. It wasn’t too bad, but the cut didn’t seem as large as I remembered. Since I came here at 4pm becuz I needed to eat early before I took my flight back home there was no crowd for a Saturday.
Be the first to ReplyOxtail Soup beginning at 4 pm
We visited on a Friday night at 8 pm and had only a very short wait to be seated. One of the friends we were dining with was very excited to be able to order the Oxtail Soup. Normally this dish is only available after 11 pm but now the soup is available beginning at 4 pm. Since the diner is not currently open 24 hours, they decided to offer the soup earlier in the day which made our friend very happy. He really enjoyed the soup and left with a big smile on his face. My wife and I ordered the prime rib special which we really enjoyed. We miss the salad bar but understand why it is not currently available. The cherries jubilee ice cream is a nice touch at the end of the meal if you order the prime rib.
Be the first to ReplyHorrible tough, not freshly made prime rib
Due to COVID19 and the lack of customer's the prime rib special dinner we always get from here was horrible on 9/16/20. The salad baked pototoe, and cherry jubilee were a good. The prime rib was not fresh, and too tough to chew. It was definitely cooked several days before it was served to us. Even the fat on the prime was yellow, hard, and old. I didn't eat it. I did not want to complain to our waiter that had no control over a struggling resturants food quality. I would recommend taking it off your menu until you can serve the quality prime rib before COVID19.
Be the first to ReplyPrime rib special is worth it.
I was highly recommended to visit and try the prime special and I was not disappointed. For $11.99 I had house salad, prime rib and cherries jubilee for dessert. The salad was great. I loved the baked potato and green beans with my juicy prime rib.
Staff and service was great and I would definitely return to next time I am in Vegas.
