Ohshima Japanese Cuisine Orange Reviews from The Last Year
This is a very small sushi spot, come early to get seats.
The sushi here is very fresh, love the variety of fishes they offer on their menu. I recommend coming here for the sushi and omakase. The staff is friendly, and restaurant is clean.
It's my favorite sushi place around my apartment.
Very reasonable price for the best quality of fish. A lot of the fish there are directly from Japan and they are so sweet! Recommended!

Decided to stop by today since I've been curious about the new ownership changed to see if the quality is still superb. It did not disappoint me, the service was great and attentive fish quality was still amazingly fresh. Definitely coming back again and glad quality is still the same as before.
I feel so sad after I walked out from this place.
It used to be really good and authentic. But not anymore.
A small cozy place.
First time visitor based on recommendations from some friends. You pick the omasake options they offer for the day. when you plate have arrived, they will walk you through the different dishes and recommend where to start. It is recommended that you take a picture before start eating so if you run into something you really like it's easier to reorder. Services are great, but there is a 1.5 hours eating time limit due to popularity. I would recommend this place but you will need to have a deep pocket for it.
I've been coming here as a regular customer since 2019.
However, I'm sadly to say the overall quality has gotten unexpectedly low after my visit today. The quality of the fish wasn't as fresh as before, in fact, they tasted a bit watery. The nigiri rice didn't taste well and it was overpowered by the fish. I couldn't really tell the difference of each course because they tasted really similar, I'm not sure if they flavored with the same sauce. The quality is okay, but I'm just really really disappointed by how much this sushi pace has changed ever since they're managed by the new owner. I don't think I'd be coming here again, it's really sad for me to say it's time to look for a new go to spot!
Long time Ohshima customer since 2012.
Sadly, today will be my last day as a patron of this establishment until new ownership or things significantly improve. The new ownership has brought a clear decline in the quality of food and options. They took out favorites like chawanmushi and live spot prawns (at least not today). The appetizers we had (octopus wasabi and shrimp tempura) were bad. They both tasted fishy, like they used old shrimp and octopus to make these dishes. It was pretty unbelievable, but even with the wasabi on the octopus and tempura batter on the shrimp, you can clearly taste a fishy taste. Omakase was not great. They don't serve the additional dishes with the omakase anymore (such as the grilled fish dish). The fish on the sushi was not cut evenly (some parts are thicker than others), and the some fish had a fishy taste despite the amount of salt and ponzu poured onto the fish. The fish was cut thinner than before, while the rice taste and texture were off (tasted slightly undercooked and not enough rice vinegar). The fish was so over salted that I drank about 4 glasses of water through the 10 piece omakase meal. The same was true for my wife and brother in law during our dinner. The pricing also went up about 20-30% with new ownership giving another reason to look elsewhere for omaskase options. Service was ok. We had a few moments of near empty water glasses despite the restaurant being less crowded than before new ownership. I'm not sure how long they can get by based on the reputation of the old restaurant, but long time patrons will be disappointed. The signs were there when we got there, as there was no line 30 minutes before opening on a Saturday (we got there at 4 and were the only ones in line before opening at 4:30pm). We decided to give it a go anyway and regret it. I am still giving the place a 2 star as some fish pieces were still good, like the cherry salmon and chutoro. However, even the cuts on those pieces were not very even. For people who have never experienced the old ohshima, it may be fine. However, it's a definite and obvious decline in quality from before that is simply not worth the money given there are now other options at similar price points.
Correction, they have made it to the Michelin guide.
Have not yet received a star. They do deserve a star nonetheless.

This place is delicious and they really take the time to make amazing sushi I absolutely recommend. THIS IS 1 michelin star level sushi! (And priced at that level). The sake is also wonderful as is the ambiance. Don't let the outside fool you. Service was also great. There are better sushi places to be sure, but this is among the best in orange county and la county. Cheers
We have been to this restaurant to try their Omakase but
We have been to this restaurant to try their Omakase but very disappointed as their sushi quality and tastes all below average. They just gave us cheap quality sushi with no uni and shrimp..We have been to a very nice Omakase restaurant in other city but wanted to try seeing their reviews. Seems like their chefs are Japanese but their Omakase sushi are just like average quality ones . We may not go to this restaurant again as we can not expect any tasteful sushi. Very disappointed. Their mixed tempura was good but too expensive compared other restaurants.
Excellent omakase at great price!
Excellent, fresh sushi, with efficient and smiling service in a lovely little space. No frills omakase 10 piece only $66? Amazing!

It can be under your name or a name you choose! Some reservation offers already include the AppointmentTrader Transfer Service which will transfer the reservation in to your name. If its not included you can add it on after buying the reservation for a small fee. One thing on that though: As many reservations become available at last minute, taking a reservation in someone else name is quick and great for privacy. Most reservations on AT are listed with a virtual phone number, so all you need to do is present the phone number at the hostess stand and you are good to go!
