This Ramen place has always been a 4+ star ramen place in
This Ramen place has always been a 4+ star ramen place in my book. I dont LOVE ramen, i just like it. But i can say this place was my favorite Ramen spot in the bay. They are always consistent in their food over the years and made a great office lunch place. I normally get a Shoyu Ramen and a Chicken Karage starter. The Ramen really hits the spot especially on a cold day. The Chicken Karage though is really what makes it for me. Ive had some bland, noncrusted, non flavored Karage in my day. But here at Orenchi, the Chicken Karage convinces me this is what Chicken Karage SHOULD TASTE like. Though I have not been to Japan, i can only guess this is the difference between fried chicken and a chicken karage. That being said, I can only positively say that Orenchi has the best Chicken karage ive had anywhere (yet).Usually a great place to eat. However recently ive seen other reviews that agree with my last visit. They started charging an automatic 15% service charge that started when they started to open back up a bit after COVID. Many people say this is a scam. I dont particularly think its a scam, but I do think this was a bad business move for Orenchi.. this is my takeaway from this decision (which is just my opinion btw and have no valid standing to why this restaurant did what it did):Orenchi wanted to start making money again due to being closed for a long time during COVID and so they decided to follow all guidelines and rehire to open again to serve food. So in the interim of doing this, they decide to charge (aka fine) the customer a 15% fee to reopen their doors. So instead of increasing the prices of their ramen to counter the expense of reopening, since they want to stay under $15 a bowl to attract customers and enforce customer-retention, they simply force a 15% "service" charge that does NOT relate to tip for the workers. So the customer ends up getting fined for the same bowl, but instead of thinking they raised prices, Orenchi made a point to make it look as if they are fining customers for patronage and still hold their hand out for tip culture. This means every bowl you eat here will end up with you feeling bad for their workers. Its pity penalty.. I wouldn't call this a scam per-say and i do feel for them, but there was clearly a better way of doing this.. It is honestly sad to know my favorite ramen place left me thinking this is more of a money-grab instead of a homely ramen shop. Until this changes, this is/was a good ramen place I used to go.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food.
Not a long wait on Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays. A little wait for food but worth it.

Quick easy fast and good as long as you are patient waiting in line! Plenty of parking and lots of choices on the menu

I arrived here on a Friday evening and was pleased that we had a reservation, as the place was nearly full. One convenient feature is the ability to order using a QR code scan.
Be the first to ReplyThis location is little, but we showed up on a Wednesday
This location is little, but we showed up on a Wednesday night and immediately got a table for two. We tried the fried chicken first. The chicken itself was good and had a good crunch, but the sauce it came with was basically just plain mayonnaise which was off putting. We also ordered gyoza, they were ok, nothing special. I ordered the Orenchi Ramen and my friend ordered the special, Donabe Spicy Miso. She liked hers but I didn't try it. Mine was very tasty, the broth was flavorful and creamy with just the right amount of noodles and toppings.

Got here around 6:30 on a Saturday and waited around 40-50 min for a party of 5! Most of us got the Orenchi ramen (pork tonkotsu base) and it was pretty good. I wish it came with more meat, there was only one slice of the chashu. It also came with mushrooms, an egg, and bamboo shoots. Also got takoyaki, but these were so hot I burned my tongue. Service was great, the girl at the front was really nice in giving us estimates on the wait times.
Be the first to ReplyThe service was pretty good.
Not intrusive and did their best to accommodate the various needs of guests without it being an issue. The food was ok. Very rich broth, could've used a bit more substance in the soup itself. Flavors were typical. The space they are using they've done a great job with. They really have. Strip malls are only so good if spaces, they've made it inviting. A little chilly in the winter so maybe keep you light jacket with you. (Obviously this doesn't apply in summer.)
Be the first to ReplyDecent Ramen.
OG Ramen place in South Bay before Ramen, Nagi, and all the other competitions. A couple years ago I would've waited an hour to come here but now I won't come even with the wait. It is not what it used to be. They did remodel the place and it's the same owners, but vibe isn't the same as before. Got the tonkatsu and the tsukemen and both was just OK. Broth wasn't as flavorful, meat wasn't melt in your mouth. you have to ask for the garlic and chili now, they don't leave it out anymore.

One of the better ramen places in the South Bay! Came in on a Friday night and was seated fairly quickly in about 10 mins. Their ramen is very flavorful and spicy but not too salty which I love! Definitely coming back to get my ramen fix.
Be the first to ReplyCame by at 6pm on a Thursday night.
Not too busy and was seated right away. Staff was very friendly. Ordered the Agedashi Tofu and the Orenchi ramen with some additional toppings. The broth was okay and the overall quality was decent. The eggs were done nicely though. Maybe it was an off night. Would try again another time.
Be the first to ReplyI got their tonkotsu ramen and really enjoyed it.
The noodles were springy and flavorful, and the broth was really delicious. I am really excited to try their seasonal ramen the next time I go back!
Be the first to ReplyThis place was oooook.
The decor inside is really cool, love the furniture selection and the anime wall decor. The service was kind of hot and cold. Different people helped us so it was kind of disjointed. I love that they had a vegan ramen option but I'm disappointed that when my ramen came it was lukewarm. There was plenty of vegetables and a variety that I haven't seen in other vegetarian ramens (eggplant/bell peppers) which was wonderful but the broth wasn't hot and the toppings were cold so that just made the whole thing meh. The noodles were also very Al dente. I wanted to like this place but with so many ramen places in the South Bay they need to step up their game a bit.

...clever bait. Meager chashu, mediocre broth, unseasoned egg. I don't understand why anyone would go here when there are a plethora of better ramen shops. If you haven't had Ramen Nagi, I suggest you take your money there instead.
Be the first to ReplyOrenchi has been a Bay Area staple since my high school
Orenchi has been a Bay Area staple since my high school days. I remember the lines during dinner were so incredibly long that my friends and I would try to come during lunch if we didn't have class afterwards. I came here again recently to hang out with my bridesman and the interior is a lot more modern now! They also have outside seating with tents if you prefer to sit outdoors. Since we came right at opening, we were able to get our table pretty quickly and put in our orders. We ordered the 3 piece karaage and fried gyoza to share and we both ordered the regular size Orenchi (tonkatsu) ramen as well. The karaage was super hot and crispy with just the right amount of salt. They cut the karaage in halves which was nice because each piece was pretty large. The gyoza is pretty basic but it hit the spot because we both didn't have breakfast. As for the ramen, their broth is absolutely stellar. I could drink a whole vat of it. It's super rich, creamy, and you can tell they spent hours making it. Sure, it's salty. But is it worth it? YES! The ramen noodles were great as well. They had a nice thickness and chew to them that I really appreciated. Overall, Orenchi continues to be a solid choice when it comes to getting ramen in the bay. All the dishes we ordered were great and I highly recommend trying out their Orenchi ramen if it's your first time! I'll definitely order a larger bowl next time because the regular size disappears too quickly.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time here since their renovation in February and I
First time here since their renovation in February and I must say it definitely seats more customers which keeps waitlist low. Spicy miso always hits the spot and it's one of few ramen places that does the soft boiled egg perfectly! I am super sad that the hamachi carpaccio is no longer on the menu, but that's ok! My go to appetizer is now the raw octopus which is seasoned very minimally but very tasty! We were suggested to order the house cold sake with the appetizer and it's definitely got my stamp of approval!

Soup is a bit too salty (Ordered the orenchi ramen)Egg is 100%Portion for a large only adds more noodles/soup
Be the first to ReplyOrdered the Tonkotsu with spicy miso.
The broth was rich and had a lot of vegetable flavor. The soft boiled egg is the star of the meal. It is cooked to perfection with creamy center. The wait can be long but not unusual for a good ramen place.
Be the first to ReplyI'm a Ramen lover, appetizers were good.
But the broth was just ok, the reviews of this place is just hyped.
Be the first to ReplyRamen here is still hard to beat.
I mostly do takeouts now but it still so good!!The broth and noodles are unbeatable!! I've been to other ramen spots in the bay. The broth is slow cooked and taste authentic, with deep flavors that is addictive. Ramen Nagi is the only other place than can match this place. But if you want to skip the lines, come here. And unless you go to Japan, this as close as it gets. The only negative is the meat, too little per serving.Otherwise, tofu appetizer was amazing. Gyoza, nothing too great. Maybe the other reviewers don't want people to crowd this place, like in the past. Loooong lines before pandemic.Keep up the great work, this business deserves to prosper as it has amazing food!
Be the first to ReplyOrenchi used to be the spot to go to.
I remember having to come early and wait in line just for the chance of getting on the list. Sadly, it no longer lives up to expectations. Ordered takoyaki and the tonkotsu ramen, the takoyaki was frozen and inedible in the middle. Ramen was okay, nothing to write home about, just tastes different and was very underwhelming. With so many options in the bay, definitely will skip this spot now.
Be the first to ReplyWorst ramen I've tried so far.
Tonkotsu broth was not creamy at all and super salty. Karaage was fried too much and dry. Chashu was thin and dry as well. Hard to find a place to cook everything wrong.
Be the first to ReplyThis place used to be good but it has gone down hill.
The food is just mediocre but with all the ramen competition in the Bay Area, this should be the bottom 20%. I ding them most on the service. The host was borderline rude and couldn't care less about service. We got here on Sunday at 1:15 pm. We were ignored by the host while he placed back and forth doing whatever he was doing. Place was around 25% capacity. When we were eventually seated, it was at the worst table in house, facing a very dirty kitchen. We retreated to changed our table and the host said it's not possible because we've ordered out food (via QR code on table). ย Mind you there were plenty of tables around and at this time, no other customers were coming in. You won't be confused on which table you serve at this point cos the rest of the customers already has their food. So my entire meal I looked into the entrance is a nasty kitchen. Very unappealing. At 10 mins before closing, another server came and literally said, you need to finish up. We are closing in 10 mins. At that point, I was done eating, my husband was on his last 2 bites of ramen, and we had a piece of chicken karaage left. I informed the server that he can see we are finishing up and will not take that long. But if he insisted on his leaving on time, give us a to go box. He can back with the box and literally fling it in the table. At that point we asked to see the manager. This Japanese looking staff member pulled the server aside and went to the back. Then all the staff went to the back and no one came out. It was unfortunate that we had already paid with this new QR code system. It was the biggest disappointment. It sure felt like we were being discriminated upon and one after another the staff were just rude. Either that or we arrived 45 mins to closing on a Sunday which is too late for them.
Be the first to ReplyNoodle, soup, pork, and egg all tasted good.
But a little bit salty. Good news is that much easier to book a seat right now.
Be the first to ReplyIt was horrible! I haven't been to Orenchi in a long time.
I was pleasantly surprised that there was no line. It was 11:30. Brand new decor and layout. The ramen was chewy and the broth was salty. There was only one piece of paper thin roast pork. I finally figured out they don't want me back as a customer!!The service was good since I was still the only one in the restaurant when I left. I guess I didn't see the obvious? Not going back.
Be the first to ReplyThis is not the same Orenchi from pre-covid.
The restaurant got a nice interior remodel and upgrade, while the food got a huge downgrade. What changed? The broth is salty with little flavor, ย noodles are worse than instant noodle with a grainy/doughy texture, and the service is terrible. Not to mention they hide a "service tax" on the bill without telling you. There must be a new owner. Used to be one of the top ramen places in South Bay. Now it's honestly worse than instant ramen.
