Michelin rated restaurant with set menu
Michelin starred restaurant with a set menu for $125 plus extra for the wine pairing. Came here for dinner with my dad on a Wednesday evening and made a reservation online in advance. There were metered street parking available close to the restaurant, which looks a bit nondescript from the outside but is located close to Bar Ama. They give us extra plates and they were all so delicious. By the end of the meal, we were both so full it hurt (but it hurt so good). Below is what we had for our meal (though note that your dishes may change depending on season and availability): - Chawanmushi - super soft and savory; a nice start. - Kanpachi crudo with iced plant and citrus purée and pluots - really interesting flavor and it was the first time I had an iced plant - Squash blossom stuffed with ricotta and black sturgeon caviar with hazelnut and pink lady apple and Parmesan salad - nicely crisped texture and a fresh salad - Angolotti wirh two types of tomatoes and Sicilian cheese and Tartufo - one of my favorite of the dishes; the tomatoes burst in my mouth and the cheese was so creamy - Matai snapper in broth - my least favorite dish but my dad did enjoy its warm, savory soup - Soft shell with aioli - both of us had this as part of our top 3 dishes, and it was an extra dish that wasn’t part of the standard set - Wild sturgeon with huckleberries and Japanese squid ink - the final savory dish and it was a nice way to end - Cornbread pancake with cotton candy grapes - another first for me, as I never had grapes in cornbread but somehow it worked - Peach with marscapone and miso glaze: I wasn’t expecting this for dessert but it was homey and had a nice graham texture - Chocolate macaroon - a nice little bite to round out the meal with high quality chocolate

(Ate at this one-star Michelin Star restaurant in November 2022.) This was my first ever Michelin star experience. I was with two friends. I ordered the wine pairing. They did not. All three of us ordered the tasting menu. One of us has a wide spectrum allergies (gluten, nuts, chicken, etc.) The first two dishes were spectacular. The Jerusalen (sic) Artichoke Soup. And the Satsuki Rice porridge. A year later, and I AM STILL THINKING ABOUT THE PORRIDGE. I think I would murder for that dish. It is definitely in my top 5 of the most delicious things I have ever eaten. But . . . the rest of the menu was disappointing, to say the least. The duck was tough and somehow flavorless, and the gianduja tart was nearly frozen and impossible to cut through. My friend and I were literally chasing our desserts around the table. Our gluten-free friend was served an impromptu creamy fruit dessert and his eyes rolled back into his head with pleasure. We wanted some because of our disappointing tarts, yet he refused to give us even a morsel. We threatened him with our knives but to no avail. The wine pairing was interesting, but I could have done without it. It wasn't life-changing the way the porridge was. Honestly, I would have been so happy with a bigger bowl of porridge, some fresh baked bread and a small cut-able chocolate something for dessert. I fully admit I am a peasant. The waiter seemed bored and uninterested and didn't really try to engage with us. I will try another Michelin restaurant at another point, but for my two friends, the tab wasn't worth it.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible food and beautiful environment
Loved the intimate, calm atmosphere and the very informative and personable waiter/sommelier. The open kitchen and limited number of tables made it feel like we’d been invited to the chef’s home. The food was incredible, starting with a savory egg custard that was better than any steamed egg dish I’d ever tried before. It was a creamy texture with complex umami flavors. Another amazing dish was the polenta with toasted/burnt cheese topping. I highly recommend the wine pairing - it was five wines that were mostly from small vineyards and paired perfectly with the fresh, seasonal dishes. We loved the main course, freshwater trout with huckleberries and lentils - the fish was perfectly done. The cost was well worth it, and not unreasonable for a Michelin starred restaurant.

One of my favourites. Love the counter seats, the charming staff and the satsuki rice risotto. Most of the dishes were utterly scrumptious! One dish had me puzzled (corn soup w nectarine and roe) and the other (giandara tart) too rich. Would I return? Most definitely, if only for their risotto (ours came w uni, abalone & scallop) and the wonderful service & cool vibe. Nearby parking lots for abt $12. Note: there is a 20% (non-tip) service fee + additional tip (so we left 20%, not our typical 25%).

This would have to rate amongst the top10 dining experiences we have had anywhere in the world. We did the dinner paired with wines and had world class food and exceptional service. Every dish was outstanding and the waiter paired wines, mainly French, perfectly. Intimate setting and reservations required. Enjoy!!

We dined here for lunch recently and was fortunate enough to have done so before the world turned upside down courtesy of covid-19.
Both of us ordered the chicken sando and it was brilliant and delicious. Their homemade white bread are the perfect book-ends for the moist fried chicken. Plus, their homemade chips are paper thin and perfectly crisply.
For dessert I had the souffle "pancake" and it was absolutely one of the best desserts I have ever eaten. The service was very professional and courteous.
Overall, just a perfect experience. I can see why Orsa has its Michelin star. I would not hesitate to eat here again and again and would definitely recommend it to family and friends whether for dine-in or take-out. An absolute gem.
World Class Food and Service
My friends and I had an incredible meal during DineLA six months ago. During the January DineLA, we tried it again and were very pleased. Consistently superb food and service are hard to maintain at any restaurant but Orsa and Winston rises to the occasion. Because I’m not a beef eater, the restaurant was able to accommodate my personal preference with no problem. The dining room was packed with people of all ages and ethnicities, clearly all enjoying the ambience and incredible food and service.

I went to Orsa & Winston for a special meal with my (adult) son, and we ordered the tasting menu. There was not one exceptional dish; everything was well-prepared and bland. Nothing popped, nothing was experimental, nothing was interesting. For $150 per head, it should be better. Save your money and eat somewhere else.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent Omakase Dinner - Creative Fusion Cuisine with Excellent Service
My cousins took me out for a dinner to celebrate my birthday and were able to find a table at this Michelin restaurant. The five course dinner was wonderful and there was a separate snack menu for you to add a few courses to the dinner, which is a must for big eaters. We had the hamachi collar, eggplant, and hand torn pasta as our additional courses, and they were delicious. The service was also excellent, as the waiters were very attentive and they described each course in details. I definitely recommend it.

I can understand why this has received a Michelin star. The food is spectacular - innovative preparations with interesting blends of ingredients, professional waitstaff who explain each dish, fabulous wine pairings with European selections that are anything but run of the mill and a clean, elegant dining room which is comfortable, not at all stuffy and perfect for an intimate dinner experience.

Rarely have I found a dinner where all courses were on point. O&A delivered just that. Fresh ingredients (seafood, and local fruits and veggies) seasoned well, just enough salt and acid to balance great ingredients.
Service was also fantastic, husband noted he has never been served by so many happy people!
Definitely worth hunting this small gem down. Enjoy
There should be lines out the door
Orsa and Winston is a sophisticated and personal restaurant with attentive and knowledgable staff, a civilized dining experience. What's more, it is the best cooking in Los Angeles right now. California haute cuisine, inventive, with top quality ingredients, and an excellent program of unusual wines. Many fine vegetable dishes. For the skill and quality, it is a bargain. Highly recommended.
