I loved everything about this restaurant.
The intimate setting, the service, the food, the wine selection and even the photos of cute pups Orsa and Winston on the walls. I didn't expect much at first but the 5 course menu for the price is so worth it! There were multiple compliments of the chef throughout the dining experience. Definitely well deserving of the Michelin star rating!

Lights were dim, so a very nice place for a date. Wait staff was excellent. Every dish was a different experience. Every was prepared beautifully.

Have to say one of the most mediocre Michelin restaurants I have been to. Pretty disappointing for a Michelin star restaurant. They do compliment a lot of dishes but none of them are impressive. Chawanmushi is a little too cold. Everything else just seems not meeting Michelin star criteria. Wine pairing too. Nothing makes me remember. On the other hand, this place is not expensive. 125 per person can def fill a person with a bunch of compliments. If you are looking for decent food for a reasonable price this is not a bad choice.
Be the first to ReplyThe tasting menu is good quality and filling.
There are nine dishes in total although the menu only listed five items. The most impressive dish is the squid ink agnolotti. The mascarpone is of the right consistency so the entire dish doesn't taste too heavy. It also goes really well with the lobster cream and pine nuts. Other items are good but not mind blowing. The cod texture is a little dry and too lean, and I don't find the blueberry jam or the strawberry corn cake complimenting the cod. The chocolate mousse dessert is a little thick and dry and also cake like. The ambiance is nice and simple. The service is definitely not on par with Michelin standard. The servers didn't explain the wine menu well, and when asked for a recommendation, he gave a simple answer without elaboration. They also didn't come to refill water often and required asking them to do so. They didn't come fold the napkin when you left for bathroom. Overall, it felt as if they directed their attention to those who ordered more wine because they're the cash cows.

My boyfriend and I had our Valentine's Day dinner at Orsa & Winston. The restaurant offers a 5 course meal at a set price of $125 per person and the chefs gave us an additional 5 gifts. The food was delectable, and the combination of the various ingridients in each dish further enhances the flavor of the overall dish. The service was impeccable and the waiters explained in detail the origins of each ingredient in the dish as well as the wine from the wine pairing. The wines were hand picked by a waiter who selects the wine that pairs the best with each dish. The ambiance of the restaurant was modern and spacious. The restaurant had an open kitchen which gave an impression of an inclusive environment. I believe the price point of the meal, the amount of food we got, the spectacular service, and the exceptional experience from the chefs make Orsa & Winston a restaurant worthy of its Michelin Star status and a visit.

Orsa and Winston was an incredible experience for an incredibly affordable price for dinner. We had the 5 course meal and beverage pairing. Easily worth way more. I am Chinese and I have tried multiple 3 Michelin star restaurants and this one blew me away with its simplicity and relatable flavors. I usually hate sweets but the desert and wine pairing was perfect and had me eating more than 2/3 of the desert. Wow. Roman was our sommelier and he didn't seem as expressive as other sommeliers I have met so I doubted he would be able to pull off an Asian fusion pairing. Luckily I trusted the Michelin ranking. It turned out to be an impeccable pairing with a variety of different perfectly placed wines and sake. You must have the beverage pairing. The ambience was simple and private, a perfect place for a quiet modest date. You feel like you were cooked a I will recommend this place for my friends and family. Thank you. Enjoy!

The food is great - started kinda average but just got better. The seafood rice porridge is a can't miss. Service was great also, ambiance no issue. My irritation lies solely in the additional 20% service charge that is not a tip. Seriously, you're doing a prix fixe menu. Plenty of other restaurants in the higher dining space have gone to a full ticket price (including tip) model. I'm fine adding a tip after. But service fees that don't go to the staff? That's your overhead. Bake it into the price of your meal. Kinda deceitful to do it the opposite way.

There were definitely some hits and misses but I thought our meal was really good overall! It was slightly below the expectation I have for a Michelin star spot. Ambiance was nice, it's a super small spot with only like 6-8 tables. Some of the highlights included a fantastic lobster soup - filled with lots of meat and great flavor. Also the scallop and umi dish, wow it was fantastic. I also loved the tuna crudo course - it was simple but the fish was so fresh and flavorful. The most disappointing was the pasta, though. For an Italian fusion spot I was hoping it would be the highlight but it was really bland and under-thought in my opinion - especially given the truffles on it were flavorless. The main fish course was also kind of meh. Service was really good though. Wouldn't go out of my way to come back but glad we tried it!
Be the first to Replyclassy casual restaurant.
italian asian fusion. food was absolutely fire, every course was perfectly balanced and nicely portioned (i left stuffed). got the wine pairing which honestly complemented the food so well and I dont even like wine. My favorites were probably the risotto and the cornbread (the bread was magical fr). few seats but vibes were nice. also the bathroom was hella cute. street parking or paid parking lot down the street. good service.
Be the first to ReplyNothing special.
I've been to many restaurants that were better. In general I should admit that the quality of food is excellent. As well as its appearance. I expected more enthusiastic service, maybe being more cheerful, giving at least one smile. I have enjoyed the quantity of meals. Exactly what you need not to be overfull, as well as to try as much as you only can. However the tastes weren't surprising (as you expect from such a restaurant). It's not an extraordinary. The only dish that I considered being fantastic was a complement:) (garlic polenta with fish). So it was so smaaaaal. I wish I could rather triple that one and ate only that dish. And the dessert, that is also really good. So.. I'm sure I won't come back. I don't regret, but still.
Be the first to ReplyWe had great service at OW and really enjoyed the wine
We had great service at OW and really enjoyed the wine pairing. However, the food was overall disappointing. Like other comments mention the seafood porridge (add on) is the star of the meal overall. A recent Infatuation article mentions that the menu feels overall disjointed and I would agree. Many of the dishes were drastically under seasoned, particularly the fish entree with black lentils and the vegetable course. While it was described as having Huckleberries the entire dish was bland and tasted for the most part like unseasoned lentils. One of our gifts, gelato, tasted overchurned and buttery - close to inedible. I could dissect the issues with each dish individually, but I'll leave it with no dish really besides the crudo, egg custard, and porridge shined. I'm not sure if or why we would return when you have much better options close by.

I had been looking forward to celebrating my 30th birthday at Orsa & Winston for weeks and ended up feeling so let down by the experience. The only dishes that we all really enjoyed were the crudo and the dessert which had incredible flavors and presentation. Everything else just missed the mark which was incredibly disappointing for us especially considering not only the restaurant's Michelin star, but also the reviews we read ahead of time. Not to mention the special occasion which brought us there. Moreover, we were rather let down by the service. Despite the intimate setting we had to work hard to flag down our waiter each time our waters were empty. Additionally, I have some very severe food allergies so my friends emailed and called ahead to the restaurant to explain that no allergens could be served to anyone at my table despite my allergies (this was also reiterated when we were seated) however in the first course, an item I am severely allergic to was almost served to my friends. Perhaps we just were unlucky enough to be there on an 'off' night, but given the limited availability of reservations and the price tag, I'd say it's probably not worth the risk to find out.

The real deal, in terms of an LA restaurant, amid the constant sequences of hype and disappointment, that proves to be as delicious as you would hope. It's also a pleasant space.

Such a lovely and fun experience dining here! Overall from the food to the ambiance, was fantastic. I don't think I've had Japanese Italian cuisine before but have seen it here and there in the LA area. I do think there were some dishes that could have used improvement and I think the service fee that people mention can be off-putting to some.//CONTEXT//Came here as a party of two recently in Feb 2023. We made a reservation about a month beforehand and it was for a Tuesday so definitely book early if you want a Friday or Saturday reservation. Booking was done online//FOOD//The food was delicious! There was a lot of small "gifts" but honestly probably just part of the price and experience but it's 11-12 in total! I was extremely full after! Another comment is that there's a lot of truffle added to dishes but I didn't feel like it did anything, for example this truffle pomodoro pasta. I couldn't taste or smell any truffle, or the truffle on potatoes. Normally I feel like it enhances a dish but I just didn't get that here.* Chawanmushi with custard and caviar - this was pretty good! Mine wasn't hot and didn't have that normal umami flavor that chawanmushi normally makes me excited about. * Roasted artichoke with Meyer lemon: this was so good! It tasted like roasted/crispy squid!* Kampachi Crudo with Dashi Vinaigrette and Ume and Kumquat: this was so so good! The sauce felt like olive oil (I might be making that up) and the kumquat was so refreshing. * Plancha grilled Hokkaido Scallop: this was so tasty! The green sauce had a nice spicy Spanish kick* Cabbage and caviar and anchovy crisp: sorry I forget what this was but it was a pink cabbage with caviar. This was super bitter personally but I loved the caviar and anchovy crisps'* Roast potatoes with truffle: yummy potatoes and cooked to perfection but again didn't really taste the truffles at all * Pasta pomodoro with ume and truffle: ooof my favorite pasta! The noodles were Al dente and so perfect, loved the marinara sauce. But again for the truffle didn't think it added anything to it* Satsuki with uni and abalone: this was an additional add-on for $35 and was definitely worth it. This is super filling but was one of my favorite dishes! Rich and umami, every bite was so warming* Sea Bream with truffle and huckleberry and chicken aju: this cooked dish was perfection! Again the truffle didn't add anything but the aju was amazing, huckleberry was so unique! I've never had huckleberry before except in ice cream lol* Corn bread: delicious!* Goat cheese with focaccia: personally wasn't a fan of the cheese but I think goat cheese is acquired in taste* Yuzu sorbet and coconut milk: super tasty and a great palate cleanser* Panna Cotta: this texture was thick but I loved the rice cracker and taste!* Canadian chocolate//SERVICE//Our server was attentive and polite! Not overbearing or anything and friendly//PRICE//At the time of Feb 2023 it is $125 per person plus we did two $35 addons for the Satsuki dish, and like mentioned there's a 20% service charge which I felt was weird but they say it pays their workers and whatnot. But honestly I think they should bake this into their pre-fixe price because I can see people being super confused or annoyed by this. //OVERALL//I really enjoyed the entire experience here! Definitely could use a bit of refining for some dishes but loved it!

The food was good but they quite literally LIE about their prices on their website. Their website said the multiple courses meal is $125 per person on Tuesday nights, and yet we went there TWO WEEKS AGO (so, not V-Day) and it was $200 per person not including drinks. They are dishonest liars and the food was fine but not at all memorable. Avoid at all costs. Spend the $750 dollars on something else.

I had dinner last night at Orsa & Winston and it was absolutely delightful. The intimacy of the space and knowledgeable staff added to the ambiance and overall positive experience. Now let's talk about the food! Listed on the menu were five dishes, but so many surprises arrived at my table from chef. I have a new obsession with Tallagio cheese thanks to last nights meal. The crab "soup" and sweet potato dish were particularly fun and inventive. I also want to add that all wines are natural and organic! For the past two years I've only been able to consume natural wines so this made me giddy.
Be the first to ReplyBest place to celebrate my birthday.
Every dish is carefully thought out. From color, texture and taste. Every dish was a standout for all different reasons. Just when I get an attitude about a dish and ingredient I'm shocked. I thought for sure I wasn't going to like the chilled celeriac soup. Pfft! Blew me away. I've learned my lesson. Never will judge by ingredients. Ever. I love that the ambience is clean & simple. Doesn't take away from the food. Bravo and thank you.

A unique concept, a japanese minded menu tastfully infused with flavors typical of the northern italian tradition (the amazing risotto with sea orchin and parmigiano above all). We were impressed by the elegant simplicity of the venue, by the attentive service and obviously by the food and wine selection. I highly recommend the tasting menu which comes with multiple "culinary gifts" from the Chef in between courses. A fully deserved Michelin Star in my opinion!

Came here for dinner since Orsa and Winston retained their Michelin star. And I was completely wowed by their entire menu. Each course was absolutely amazing and every bite was delicious. I was extremely impressed with the ambiance, service, plating, and entire menu. The high lights for me were definitely the satsuki uni risotto, and the duck. But every course was cooked and prepared perfectly. Their food is definitely unique with the Japanese and Italian inspired menu. I'm looking forward to the next time I'm going to come back because they frequently rotate their menu courses and I can't wait to try what they come up with next. In total we had 11 courses since they brought out a lot of extra small courses. And even the bonus/extra courses were extremely well thought out and delicious.
Be the first to ReplyTruly excellent tasting menu, all courses were delicious
Truly excellent tasting menu, all courses were delicious and visually stunning. Service was attentive and our table was comfortable. We had several courses between courses so I ended up a bit stuffed, it was just too delicious not to eat everything. The only drawback for me was the beverage program, there's no outside corkage which isn't the end of the world but I did feel like i wasn't getting great value on the wine since it was pretty "fresh" so likely a pretty affordable bottle at 3-4x. I'll still go back next season.
Be the first to Replyman what a disappointment.
the meal started off good with the hamachi crudo. lots of flavor: good balance of heat from the aguachile, vinagrette was salty and sour, ice plant was refreshing, hamachi was sweet. great balance of flavors. the satsuki rice risotto dish was pretty good as well, i liked the flavor and the presentation of it. the risotto was flavorful, uni was nice and creamy, and abalone was a nice touch.the seared scallop was very confusing. it was just vegetables below a single scallop? very plain dish. all the small bites were pretty disappointing though. the tuna with passion fruit purรฉe was very plain, while the next small bite with the fermented cabbage was wayyyyy too sour. then the goat cheese and honey just didn't pair well because the goat cheese was too cheesy(and that's coming from someone that loves cheese). duck pasta was also very disappointing: pasta was hard and flavorless and duck confit just tasted like regular duck meatyuzu curd was pretty good, but final bites were meh as well.i think overall, some good dishes saved this from being a much lower rating. the small bites and most of the dishes didn't really work well, and i actually disliked some of them to the point where i didn't want to finish them; i don't think i've ever actually DISLIKED a dish at a michelin place before, at worst i just thought they were good but nothing special). it didn't feel like there was a variety of flavors; everything basically tasted the same in the end.

It was a wonderful experience coming here! All the dishes were amazing and the ambience was very cozy/romantic. I made reservations about two months in advance to ensure I got the date that I wanted and also requested to sit at the counter so I could see the chefs cooking. I did not have to wait a long time between dishes (contrary to what some others experienced) and even though portions looked small, I was full by the end of the meal! Fav dish of the night was definitely the satsuki rice with the uni but loved all the dishes. The other person in my party for the wine pairing and it seemed really worth getting. To note there's a 20% service charge on the bill that is separate from tip. Wouldn't think parking is very great here so prob take a Lyft!

Be the first to ReplyDined in tonight and had an amazing time.
The staff is very friendly and thoroughly explains each course. off menu bonus courses if you sit in front of the kitchen like we did. My favorite dish was the satsuki rice. Every bite I moaned and rolled back my eyes.

As a restaurant owner, I enjoy eating around a lot and exploring new flavors as well as the classics. I don't usually leave reviews but this is pound for pound, the best culinary experience I've ever had that combines old with new. I'm biased as I do love Japanese cuisine and seafood, but the way they curate the flavors and ingredients is just gorgeous. Take my word and just give it a try. Fine dining is alive and well in LA folks.
