Great food, backed up by impeccable service, can not be denied! What a great experience, intimate and relaxing, a must ! Amazing appetizers, sautéed artichokes, grilled octopus both superbly prepared. Unbelievably fresh pasta ! Deliciously grilled fish, and the deserts was delightful, don't miss the tiramisu! A slice of Italy A special shout out to the madre, great job !
Be the first to Reply4-star prices, 2-star food, ambiance, & service.
Disappointing from start to finish. There are many better options on restaurant row--Sicily, for one, if you're craving Italian with wonderful service & cozy ambiance, comparable prices.

I have lived part of my life here and only now am posting about this amazing place. Why? This time, even more than before, made me feel like family and a queen all at the same time. The food was amazing and, unlike so many others, did not give me heartburn from the meat sauce.
Be the first to ReplySuper nice staff and excellent food.
Quiet away from the bustle even though in midtown
Be the first to ReplyLovely service, food was terrific.
If you like liver and onions, this is the place to splurge.
Be the first to ReplyVery good Italian restaurant.
Prices are good. Wine list is still weak. Good for lunch, dinner and after theater.

Delightful spot on 46 St - we had an amazing swordfish, tender and good sized entree. Also the calf's liver was surprisingly tender and seasoned to perfection. My friend enjoyed the pasta bolognese, and their desserts deserve you saving some room in your belly. One other note, the latte and cappuccino are noteworthy.

Orso was lovely! This was my best theatre district restaurant experience ever. The staff was gracious and thoughtful, like being welcomed into a good friend's home. A small menu, but everything is done very well and tastes great. Each dish had a nice touch that really brought it up a notch--the flank steak was served on a beautifully chopped broccoli rabe, the lemon sorbet had rosemary in it, etc...This is not a place for tourists. Yes, there are famous people eating here; but at Orso you shouldn't plan to gawk or take pictures. Enjoy your meal, enjoy the company you come with and without stress make it to the theatre in plenty of time.
Be the first to ReplyNice comfortable restaurant off the beaten path of tourists
Nice comfortable restaurant off the beaten path of tourists and tourist trap restaurants. Small and intimate. Authentic Italian cuisine from start to finish. We started with cocktails and very generous I might add. Appetizers of tuna tartare and prosciutto, pear and arugula; very delicious. I usually do not order pasta but I did and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. Pasta with sausage and broccoli; a nice portion and not overwhelming. We shared a dessert as the finishing touch.
Be the first to ReplyI would give Orso somewhere between 3-4 stars, but only
I would give Orso somewhere between 3-4 stars, but only because of previous reviews claiming this was their best meal in the city and my expectations were raised but not necessarily met. The food is solid but nothing to write home about. I was slightly disappointed since it seems like they're still going through some sort of utility check up/renovation and have a more limited menu (ie no pizza options). I had the linguine and mussels (w red sauce btw) which was good. Shared the buffalo mozzarella and arugula salad as appetizers, and the mozz was my favorite. If you're in the area for a show, Orso is a decent choice for a convenient meal close by but I wouldn't recommend coming out of your way for it. Service was great though, from coat check to waiters. They provided a complimentary scoop of gelato with a candle for a birthday in our party which was very sweet.
Be the first to ReplyWent here for dinner during the business holiday season.
I was part of a pretty large group and though we all fit the tables are tight and we needed to be at two tables to accommodate us all. That in itself is not a problem but when you add the table tightness to it this was less than ideal.Service was good, they had a nice selection of bottled beer, and I had the lamb chops scottadito with eggplant-mint purée, green beans, radish, arugula. They were good but I still left with the feeling that the value just wasn't there for what I just ate. Yes, this is Manhattan and considering the location it probably should not be surprising.
Be the first to ReplyA friend recommended this restaurant to us and Joe Allen.
We dined here first and the host was so incredible nice. He was telling us that people were leaving soon and our table would be ready soon. The lady bartender was amazing. We got a glass of champagne. Once we got to our table, we were greeted by a really nice waiter. We loved our different animal plates (kids loved it too). We ordered the following:Burrata - Delicious.Tuna tartare - DeliciousLamb chops - exceptionalBranzino alla piastra - Yummy. Great flavors. Crispy skin and moist fish. Rigatoni alla Bolognese - kids ate this entire dish up!!! My daughter's favorite food is Bolognese and you guys nailed it!Pistachio biscotti - crunchy and deliciousOverall, the service was amazing and the food was exceptional. I would highly recommend this restaurant. We're so glad we tried this restaurant on our first night in NYC
Be the first to ReplyI wanted to make a 6pm reservation for 4 on Sunday .
The earliest on open table was 7pm I called the restaurant and the host told me the earliest they have was 8pm. I made the 7pm on opentable. We arrived around 6:45 and the restaurant was 2/3 empty. By the time we were on our main course we were only 3 tables left. We ordered the most expensive bottle wine on their menu and after tasting it the server place it on the table and said that their policy was to let us pour our wine ourselves.... he had no other tables to tend to. We shared a pasta dish... of course they let us split it ourselves instead of doing it for us in the kitchen. There are at least 20 other restaurants on this block. Next time we'll definitely try a more welcoming place than this.

Food was excellent for what they have available which is half their usual menu. Yummy hearts of lettuce salad and rigatoni . No news as to when they will be fully up and running. Unfortunately the Maitre D is grumpy as usual . I feel sorry for the wait staff that has to deal with him on a daily basis. This time he was angry because we didn't want to check our coats. The people at Joe Allen are always cheerful . What's up?
Be the first to ReplyProbably the best meal I had in NYC.
I was disappointed when I saw that they were not offering Pizza. My partner and I ordered Branzino and Papperdelle. I left thinking that the not having the pizza oven was a blessing in disguise. The service was outstanding.

My friend, who works in Midtown, met me here for dinner, and the waiter was thoughtful to ask if we were on our way to a show so that he could help manage our time. We were not, so we didn't have to rush. I had the pappardelle with tomato sauce, and she had the lamb chops - and outordered me. While the pasta was delicious, the sauce was so simple (I get it - it's supposed to be a simple Pomodoro sauce), while the lamb was seasoned so nicely and served with a gorgeous veggie side. We each enjoyed the hosue wine, which was a great $ deal as well. Overall a nice dinner in a lovely spot!
Be the first to ReplyWe ate at Orso before going to a show.
Small restaurant with Good Italian food, traditional Italian wine list and pleasant service. There was a prix fixe menu, but you could order the items on it separately, as well as off the regular menu. The staff is extremely friendly and made us feel like we were regulars. My order was the roasted beet and grilled pear salad with pistachios, goat cheese and a balsamic reduction. For dessert, tiramisu which was delicious as well. Location is also great - 1.5 blocks from Times Square so close to theatres. For pre-theater it was fine.
