Ox is Awesome!
Incredible food, with some of the best food/wine pairings I’ve had — I really enjoyed the way they enhanced each dish. Great service and pretty, minimalist atmosphere. Definitely will return next time I’m in town!
Be the first to ReplyVery average - no idea how they have a Michelin Star!!
My friend bought me vouchers to eat dinner at this restaurant. I hadn't been here for almost 10 years. The first time I went in 2014 I was underwhelmed and this time was no different. We had the tasting menu which was way overpriced for what it was. On top of that they said there is an extra course of cheese - we didn't realise at the time this cost extra and of course they duly paired the wine. So the extra cheese course with wine pairing for 2 people was £48!! What a rip off. The bill came to £355 - £80 per person for the tasting menu, £55 per person for the wine pairing - the extra for the cheese and £32 service charge!! If I hadn't the vouchers to take the sting out of it I think I would have cried at how expensive it was. Don't get me wrong if the food had been exceptional I wouldn't have minded!! The only dish I would say was good was the venison tartare!
Be the first to ReplySeasonal and Fresh with Friendly Service
We dined at a variety of Michelin-star restaurants on our trip throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland and Ox was near the top of our list. We arrived a few minutes early for our reservation and decided to have a drink in the lounge. The vibe was very cool but still comfortable. The server was very nice and friendly. For dinner we opted for the wine paring and were glad we did - everything was delicious. The stand out was the staff, though. Everyone was so warm, welcoming, and funny. The food was phenomenal, made with local fresh ingredients. The pace of the meal was just right. I would definitely recommend Ox.

Yes the restaurant is not cheap , yes the sommelier up sells from the reviews but you know that before you sit down you can choose not to go or not have any extras. Saying that we arrived and indulged . The tasting menu is presented as a list of ingredients which was different and a unique touch . The snacks were a great beginning to the meal , small and perfectly created . The bread in its own little bag was delicious . The standout for me was the salsify on the beef dish . The pre dessert was quite sharp and would have been off putting on its own but the wine pairing helped to sweeten it up . The staff are friendly and professional . It’s nice to see the staff coming through the restaurant . I assume it is a necessity due to the nature of the building but adds to the atmosphere.

Best meal we have ever had. The food was outstanding, service to match and great wines. We had the winter tasting menu and each course was 10/10. Fantastic restaurant and highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyA perfect setting for a special family meal
Absolutely wonderful food served in a relaxed but elegant space, with friendly and attentive service which made us adults and our young teenage children feel equally welcome. The tasting menu was a real treat, and great value for the quality of cooking and service on offer - thank you for a fantastic afternoon.
Be the first to Replysymphony of wonderful textures and flavours.
Finally getting around to writing a review of the excellent Ox. Before our visit (06.08.22) there was more than a little trepidation given some of the reviews we had read. Suffice to say any concerns we had were totally unfounded. All dishes were a symphony of wonderful textures and flavours. Utterly faultless. The wine pairings were superb and the most generous glasses I have had in a restaurant in many many years. On a final note we interacted with numerous members of staff who could not have been more pleasant or professional. Worth the spin up from Dublin? Absolutely!!
Be the first to Replygreat but nothing too crazy
food was good, but nothing "WOW" we'd expect from a Michelin rated restaurant. service was super friendly and very knowledgeable of the menu in the other hand.
Be the first to ReplySimply exquisite
Tonight I was told I was being taken to OX for a tasting menu. Oh my word! Exquisite, delicious, exciting, welcoming, & just thoroughly good! I’m a real foodie so I adore trying anything new. This little gem was so on point! The staff were friendly, professional, enjoyable & knew their stuff. I loved it. Unfortunately I knocked my glass of wine (clumsy) & it shattered all over the floor. Within seconds it was mopped up, cleaned away, never to be mentioned again. Literally! Nothing was too much trouble. The French guy was super professional & the Spanish girl was cheery & fun. I do not live in Belfast but if I did I would bring all my friends & family here. Really! So so good!!! 👍👌

Wonderful food, in a lovely venue , beautifully designed and lit. Food was exquisite, delicious flavours. Service was fantastic.
Be the first to ReplyPoor value for money
After having visited Belfast's other Michelin starred restaurant, my daughter and I were excited to try Ox to celebrate the successful completion of her studies. What a disappointment. The first few courses of the tasting menu were microscopic and mediocre in quality. We were then served a delicious beef dish, which, although small in size, was the only course where more than one to two bites of food were offered. This was followed by a small albeit tasty strawberry dessert, and then a mediocre dessert. We are the type of people who enjoy quality over quantity, so if the food had been amazing, it may have been ok with us to leave hungry. But considering that tiny quantities of mostly average food cost over 200 pounds (with only two glasses of moderately priced wine and one cocktail between the two of us), I have to say that I feel cheated. The only upside was the staff, who were courteous and attentive. Overall, I would not recommend this establishment to anybody.

we are quite use to work in high end restaurant, we just felt that the menu was overpriced and the quality not there. wine pairing was very safe and not quite accurate with the food. food ok but not to what Michelin got us used to.
Be the first to ReplyJust feel disappointed
Firstly I have been looking to get back here after COVID for a while so finally made the trip and was so excited but left feeling decidedly underwhelmed. The service also appears to have been hit with the post COVID staffing issues. I dont expect to go to a michelin star restaurant and twice be asked if I've finished as I am still chewing my food. Everything felt a bit rushed and basic. I will say that the wines where lovely and paired with the food very well however everything else felt off. The amuse-bouche was a mixed bag without the flavour explosion you would expect. The tomato tea tasted like cupasoup! I will say the beef dish was beautiful and the charred cauliflower delicious but We've dined in a lot of fine dining and michelin star restaurant and I've never left feeling as robbed as I was here. For 2 of us with wines the bill was over £350!! Seriously there are many other places that will leave a better taste and overall experience in your mouth and wallet!
Be the first to ReplyNice but soooo expensive
We had the 6 course tasting menu but rather than wine pairing, we chose our own wine. The food is good, but in common with many upmarket restaurants post-Covid, the wine is very heavily marked up. Having never been, we’re glad to have visited, but we can dine just as well elsewhere for a fraction of the cost. It’s no doubt good for those on expense accounts and business people out to impress.
Be the first to ReplyVery disappointing return
I don't know if the pandemic has meant staff have left and therefore service is a bit untrained or what has happened, but I was sadly disappointed on returning to OX (until now, my favourite restaurant). The food has always been good, but the stand-out for me was the incredible service, which had been welcoming and flawless up til now. Now it seems detail and even some of the basics have gone by the wayside; for example, wine pairing glasses were placed randomly around the table (on the left for me, on the right for one friend, in the middle etc.), pre-drinks were suggested but then the bottle was left for us to top ourselves up, and then the first course plus wine pairing was brought when we hadn't even finished our champagne ... it did feel that the evening was absolutely on their schedule, ours not even taken into consideration, which is entirely opposite to the welcoming curation I used to feel here. Why offer pre-drinks if you don't pay attention to the speed your customers are drinking them, and adjust the start of their tasting menu accordingly? I did feel that attention to the customer was absent, again not at all what I would have expected on previous performance. We had two course that none of us were thrilled with, which was again not what I would have expected, but otherwise the food was good, not exceptional. But for me the two very worst aspects of the evening were a) the wine pairer interrupting our conversation each time, without waiting for a pause, without an "excuse me", without a cough - just talking straight over us as if we weren't there, and b) when we agreed to have the additional cheese course it was charged at £12 pp, when it is advertised as £10pp, and the "would you like a glass of port to accompany?" actually described a tiny glass at £22 each (!). Sadly I led 4 friends who left feeling fleeced by a bill for £840, despite voicing our dissatisfaction before leaving; the service charge of £75 was applied regardless. In summery, my great memories of OX when I was working on Thrones of exemplary, understated and unfussy service, where you really felt valued as a customer, have been replaced by feeling kind of ripped off. I hope whatever issues they have (training, care, attention?) are addressed and OX gets back on track to match its increased prices. I actually felt embarrassed that I had sung the praises of the tasting menu and wine pairing and persuaded my friends that it was absolutely worth the money; right now it is not.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding food
Did the taster menu with wine pairing. Absolutely one of the best restaurants we have had the pleasure of dining at. Superb.
Be the first to ReplyLunch menu
Came to the restaurant for the 3 course lunch menu. Nice food but 100% not Michelin quality. I’ve been to multiple Michelin restaurants across Europe and the UK and was very disappointed. My biggest critique is, it was not flavoursome or creative. Expensive for what it is. Staff are friendly, helpful and accommodating.
Be the first to ReplyEarly Mother’s Day Treat
I treated my Mum to the 6 course winter tasting menu as an early Mother’s Day present. The experience was fantastic from start to finish.
We arrived early and decided to have a drink in Ox Cave (just next door). The decor was lovely and the cocktails were divine. Definitely worth starting or ending your evening with a drink there.
When we were seated in the restaurant and received our first course, we were very impressed. Each dish was presented beautifully and tasted delicious. The staff were highly attentive and helpful throughout. When we asked about the sourdough bread, the manager brought out extra (free of charge) which was a lovely touch. Looking forward to returning very soon, highly recommend!
Disappointing
Went there as an early mother's day treat for lunch. We had the 4 course testing menu and paring drinks It was very underwhelming. My daughter explicitly said she didn't like nor want ox tongue and she was still served it. The desert was some posh form of jelly and Icecream tasting like potpourri. At £209 we won't rush to return. The serving staff was pleasant but as soon as the restaurant got busy we felt ignored: when we first arrived water was being poured in our glasses after a mouthful then I had to do the service mysel, not that I mind but when it goes from being waited upon hands and foot to being ignored...I think the service should be more consistent. I've ate un much nicer restaurants but they were in France...
Be the first to ReplyFood sublime but wine pairing needs improvement
The food was delicious with a particular highlight being the scallops. We ordered the six course tasting menu and wine pairing. The service was very attentive and personable. Our only disappointment was the limited wine pairing (4 in total) and measurements were very small for the price (£45). Considering it was a near £300 dinner for two we expected a tad more generosity. Would return again.
Be the first to ReplyTasty but expensive
Food was great and the wine tasting was good and the cheese was good too. Didn’t really understand that the extra cheese/port course and wine paring was extra. Lovely but just so expensive.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing tasting menu
I was taken here for a special occasion by my daughter. We have been to tasting menus in top restaurants before and always enjoyed the experience. We were excited to try Ox as we knew it had a Michelin star. Unfortunately, the meal was very disappointing. Firstly the restaurant decor is drab and very ordinary we could have been in a coffee shop. None of the 6 courses excited us, all very bland flavours and such tiny portions just a mouthful each. Even the bread was just plain sourdough with ordinary butter The best dish was the dessert and the rhubarb foam accompanying it the worst being the raw halibut starter and the beetroot pre-dessert which tasted more like a starter. We had a cocktail each and the bill for 2 was £180 as they added a hefty service charge also. We were still hungry afterwards. The staff members were very efficient, pleasant and helpful so I can't fault them at all but the food left much to be desired. Quite honestly we felt it was a waste of money and not up to the standard of the other top restaurants in Belfast and Londonderry
Be the first to ReplyBirthday treat
Birthday treat at Ox. We’d been before so knew what to expect and we weren’t disappointed. We opted for the wine accompaniment and learned a lot from the sommelier’s descriptions. Food was amazing and none of it disappointed. Can’t wait to go back again.

I have eaten here a few times. The food and service are exceptional. The chefs create memorable dishes/food combinations, the sommelier selects great wines for the tasting menu and the staff are knowledgeable, professional and personable. But you get all of this in a very relaxed atmosphere. Its fine dining at its best.
Be the first to ReplySlightly disappointed.
I’ve heard so many good things about the OX and I have been waiting quite a while due to covid to finally try here.
Service was good but drinks were very slow, the food was good but it wasn’t exceptional, it was hit and miss on some of the courses not being cooked correctly.
I’m not sure I’d rush back.
