Nice ambiance and service.
The food was good but not enough to justify $165 price tag. We dine out every weekend and try to sample restaurants on "best" lists, so have a good reference point. If you do pre-fix with no choice of substitute for this price, it has to be special. It was not. Scallop dish was good but I had a few gritty pieces. Meat had nice sauce and flavor, but a bit tough. We went to Nura last week and the dishes were more imaginative and tastier for more then 30 % less. I would give it solid 3.5 stars, because it doesn't meet expectations of what it should be.

My sister and I got the 3 course Bar menu, which at $65 pp is fantastic value for a Michelin starred restaurant! The service here is phenomenal- genuinely some of the best service I've ever gotten in a restaurant. Right from the get go, you're greeted by the entire restaurant staff. If the food is 1 Michelin star worthy, the service is 3. Our waiter knew so much about the menu, wines, cocktails, and was clearly incredibly passionate about the food. If you come here, definitely don't overlook their nonalcoholic jasmine pear drink, which is simply delicious. It went well with everything, I couldn't stop drinking it. Food-wise, I thought they did a really good job with the meats. The beef was really flavorful and the trout just melted in your mouth. I do wish they added a bit of textural contrast/acidity to some of their dishes to better balance them out though (for example, I wish instead of cooked radishes they used pickled ones or something to add some acidity/crunch). LOVED the sourdough bread, crust was perfect. Sadly I wasn't really blown away by their regular desserts; my favorite was the complimentary cream puff I got (since it was my birthday), which was very well done.
Be the first to ReplySmall spot robust flavors! My second time here in five days.
Came alone on 1/8 then again with the bf on 1/14. We were welcomed, they remembered me, that was very special. On 1/14 Saturday late dinner (9:30pm reservation), we ordered the prix fixe from the bar, everything on the menu. We were not disappointed. Starter was salad w miso dressing and an injera type roti bread; it was light and delicious. Then we had a fresh baked sour dough with fresh soft in house made sea salt butter (Amazing). For dinner we had the tile fish and beef shoulder, both delectable and full of flavor. Tried the wizard's comb cocktail and loved it. At dessert we shared the passion biscuit and chocolate situation. Both were wonderful. So for $65 prix fixe it's a deal. High quality, bright flavors and 5star service! (We ended with hot espressos, also great)
Be the first to ReplyThey try hard and they succeed.
Most of the people there are very young, including the chef, and I very much am looking forward to seeing how they evolve and mature. They're really good right now and they're only going to get better, unless success and ambition makes them think there is something bigger and better than Prospect Heights waiting for them.

Went to a celebrate a birthday, and couldn't have been more pleased. We did the bar Prix-fixe menu, and it was a great amount of food. The trout was delicious, as was the sourdough with cultured butter and radicchio salad. I wasn't thrilled with the dessert course but I think that's more a function of my palate than its quality. They even gave us two complementary glasses of champagne and a cream puff as birthday gifts!
Be the first to ReplyTruly an amazing dining experience.
We went here for our anniversary dinner and from the get go it was next level service. From the moment you walk in and walk past the open kitchen, the host, servers, and even the chefs, were so welcoming. There was a handwritten note for our anniversary and we were treated to a complimentary glass of bubbly (which was crisp and dry and delicious). Props to the staff for going with the flow with our unconventional relationship structure (to be fair it is Brooklyn so you know, not really that unconventional!) We did the prix fixe menu in the garden room, which had immaculate vibes. All the wait staff were attentive and knowledgable about the food, drink, and wine menu and were able to answer all our questions. The snack course was delicious hot bread and butter, and a wonderfully dressed mustard green salad with buckwheat crepes. Inventive and funWe were able to try both options for each course and they were all very good. When we went the app was tuna crudo (delicious) and a radicchio and beet salad. Now I'm not a huge fan of beets because they taste like dirt imo. these were a particular type of beet that was more sweet and it was honestly the best beet I've ever had.Mains were beef or trout and the trout was so succulent and melt-in your mouth. The beef had a wonderful grilled/smoked taste and was cooked really well. Dessert was a passionfruit tart and a dark chocolate mouse/cake that were both very decadent. We also got an additional complimentary profiterole that was also very good. We tried several of the cocktails, some wine, and a locally produced dessert wine and an amaro. Only thing I can ding them on is that they don't have decaf coffee but I think we can let that slide!I would definitely come back and try the longer tasting menu, and our waiter said that the prix fixe changes very regularly as well. 11/10 would recommend.

This place was great! We did the bar prefixe menu and it was $65 per person. The service was great and I loved their cocktails and that they had seasonal cocktails as well. Everything was so fresh and flavorful!

The perfect birthday dinner! You should know that there are 2 different options here (it wasn't super clear to us what we were booking online): one is a 9-course tasting menu in the dining room and one is a 3-course menu at the bar. We accidentally booked the 3-course but it was still incredible & they gave us a lot of extra bites of things which was super nice. The amount of detail that goes into everything is absurd, in a good way. You can tell that everyone is very passionate about creating amazing food and drinks, literally everything was fabulous. The menu is very seasonal and fresh, it seems to change very frequently. One of the major highlights was a cream puff that they gave me at the end to celebrate my birthday, it was the best cream puff I've ever had! The food, the cocktails, the vibe. This is a Michelin-starred stunner.
Be the first to ReplyThe tasting menu lacked finesse and an identity for me.
While our table enjoyed a few of the larger dishes more than nearly anything we had at eleven Madison park (screw that place), the majority were just alright. The saving grace was the nonalcoholic pairing, which easily is on par with the best of the best. Lovely flavor and mouthfeel achieved from juice blends and techniques like coating three interior of bottles in beeswax. The alcoholic pairing was good as well - and equally well curated.Portions are small. I'm usually fine with that, but we entered fairly hungry as I improperly gauged the scale from photos online and the number 11 on the "carte blanche" menu. We asked for an additional serving of bread ($10) which fixed that problem. Don't do what we did, eat lunch beforehand lol. This was one of the first times they offered the rice add on and they asked us for feedback on it. The cost was $15, and our table agreed that the rice add on was akin to leftover rice in a foam container left in the fridge. Satisfying, but I could surely have gotten a better dish from any Indian or Mexican restaurant in NYC.I don't believe they're at a point of charging over $100 for this 11 course tasting menu which included bread as a course. The identity wasn't there nor refinement in ingredients either.Dessert courses were nice though I was craving a crunch that never came. Actually, with most dishes there was no unexpected textural play. The finishing fruits didn't pack a punch in freshness as I'd expect them to if served so plainly at the end of the meal. Plating was good but not remarkable. The service was courteous and efficient...yet there were a few spills. This place is worth going to once you've exhausted NYC options, but I'm not quite sure how they achieved a Michelin star just yet. Perhaps the tasting menu needs a refresh / review. We visited in the Spring. I can imagine greatness from this kitchen, it's just not quite there yet. I'll come back to try the a La carte seatings in the back patio - but likely won't be back for prix fixe again.Would honestly give more 2.5/5

Heard many great things about their tasting menu! Here are our thoughts on the courses:1. Celtuce, Sansho: very clean and refreshing appetizer. Good balance of sweetness and tartness.2. SunChoke beignet: the gravy was amazing, hearty and meaty flavour. I also loved the texture of the beignet, light crunch on the outside and soft on the inside. 3. Lion mane mushroom: this was one of my favourites. The mushroom had a meaty texture and was well seasoned in a sweet savoury sauce. The yeast and Toasted honey sauce was was great compliment to the mushrooms.4. Bread and butter: definitely the best sour dough bread I've ever had. The bread was super soft and the outside was light and crunchy. 5. Hiramasa, aji: the sashimi was very fresh and the tart and spicy sauce was a great compliment.6. Squash: the squash was lightly glazed with a savoury and sweet sauce. The smoked egg sauce was went really well with the squash7. Tautog: the fish was prepared by light searing and steaming, giving the fish a great texture. The carrot sauce added a nice subtle sweetness. 8. Duck breast: tho was the highlight of the meal! The breast was super tender and well seasoned. 9. Pear and sorrel: very refreshing sorbet, a little tart for my taste.10. White chocolate, Jupiter grapes: the white chocolate was amazing, very smooth and not too sweet. They also gave us some drinks and another dessert on the house for our anniversary :)Highly recommend this place :D

This dinner was one of the absolute best of our lives! The food was spectacular - every bite was mind-blowing and memorable. What was perhaps more surprising, however, was the impeccable service. Every single person we interacted with made us feel so special. An incredible experience all around.

Came here for anniversary dinner and drinks with my girlfriend, and had an AMAZING time. We chose to do the 9 course tasting menu plus drink pairings, which ended up being 6-7 total drinks and got us nice and buzzed by the end. They also gave us a complimentary glass of champagne and a bonus dessert to take home for our anniversary (a chocolate and coffee cream puff). This along with the table decor and the fact that every staff member we interacted with wishing us a happy anniversary made the dinner feel super special, and was really appreciated. Now, as far as the food itself, I thought it was all FANTASTIC. It has exactly the type of attention to detail and diversity in preparations and flavors you'd want from a tasting, and goes toe to toe with any of the heavy hitters in NYC. Many of those are more expensive too! I especially loved the cod, ribeye with miso and burnt garlic, and this unique smoky pork and egg soup thing I've never had before. Every course featured something refreshingly different, and all paired with the drinks very well. Overall, I'd give this place the highest of recommendations for a big celebration of any sort. The staff were wonderful, the food and drinks were outstanding, and the experience as a whole was truly amazing.
Be the first to ReplyThe service at this place was amazing.
Good service def makes a very positive overall experience. However, nothing in the tasting menu stood out for me plus multiple courses had severe unbalanced seasoning problem to the point of being inedible.Only the service is really worthy of recognition IMO.

Amazing food, staff, and service! Every dish from the tasting menu was unique and well executed. My only complaint, which is more of personal taste, was that I found the food to be a tad salty. The highlights for me was the dessert! The orange creamsicle was beyond anything I've ever tried.

This is now in my shortlist of NYC restaurants that I recommend at this price point. The in-house jambon made from collar is insanely good and a highlight for me. Otherwise none of the other dishes were a miss and each was interesting in a different way. Our reservation was too late to do the tasting menu. Will have to come back. The cocktail menu did not blow me away, but the wines and service are excellent.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a lovely dinner at Oxalis early Sunday night.
We choose the carte blanche and it was overall an excellent meal.Their were definitely some dishes I preferred over the others. The meal started off with a kampachi, the flavors were so strong of citris and kosho didn't taste any of the fish and it kind of over took my palate. The next course brought some repreve with a crispy turnip cake; deliciously crunchy on the outside and smooth and creamy on the inside. The spring tart was also great with bright and fresh flavors. A bread course followed, which sounds weird but let me tell you that was the best sourdough bread and butter I've ever tasted. The buttermilk dip was also wonderful, I could not stop eating it. The fluke followed, it was nice and fresh. My favorite dish of the night would definitely be the rice dish. It was creamy kind if like a risotto but so much better. I was such wonderful balance of flavors, I wish I has a larger portion! The cod that follows was perfectly cooked and was served with a little seafood cake and a super flavorful broth. The last savory dish of the night was a perfectly cooked slice of beef which would have been delicious but my piece had a huge tendon running through it so I couldn't eat half of it. And with it being such a small piece it was disappointing. On the upside, they served this dish with a choice of red wine or a non-alcoholic "red wine" which tasted like a beet soda and was super yummy. For dessert they served us a rhubarb sorbet. I'm not a fan of rhubarb but it was refreshing dish with interesting flavors. The last dish was yet another sorbet, this time citris and served with a cream, it definitely lived up to its name and tasted of a super high-end Creamsicle. I like it but I though it was a bit of a cop-out to do two sorbets instead of a baked or patisserie. The meal ended with fruits, a few slices of blood orange and kumquat, and yummy caramels. The meal was a bit of a roller-coaster ride. They definitely like bold flavors and interesting combinations. A few disappointments here and there but the staff was very kind and accommodating. To make up for the beef dish, they took care of our drinks and sent us home with a chocolate and caramel cream puff, which was delicious Overall it was a good meal and would definitely come back for another meal, but would probably stick to the a la carte menu next time.
Be the first to ReplyIf I could give this amazing restaurant 10 stars, I would.
Chef Nico and his staff are top notch. We had a party of 4, expecting great things and they exceeded expectations in a very big way! The meal was truly the best I've ever had. Each of the 11 dishes were works of art, with flavors that were out of this world. The Kampachi, the first course was so savory, like nothing I've ever tasted. Literally, each bite, I closed my eyes to experience the incredible blend of flavors. We had two more appetizers that were equally fantastic. We also did the wine pairing which had perfect choices for all the courses. I added caviar to the fluke, which was outstanding. The beef with walnut miso, and black garlic melted in my mouth with the greatest flavors. Three different desserts put this evening over the top. Chef Nico and the phenomenal staff made us feel so welcome. Chef Nico, you truly love what you do and it shows in your creative food ideas, presentations and phenomenal food. This Michelin star restaurant is a real gem. Bravo, Nico and we will return! Thank you all!

We attended the Feeding NYC with 63 Clinton and City Harvest dinner. Since it's fine dining, I was a little afraid I'd still be hungry after the meal, but that wasn't the case and quite the opposite. I was so full from enjoying everything that I couldn't finish dessert. As you can see from the photos, each dish looks like a work of art and tastes amazing too. My favorite was the egg yolk and cabbage. I highly recommend Oxalis for special occasions and even a random weeknight. This dinner was by far the bright spot of my week. Thank you S.Pellegrino for the bottomless sparkling water!
Be the first to ReplyFirst of all, we were welcome by warm hospitality.
We ordered tasting menu for $125 ppl. Food is exceptionally creative, a beautiful combination of Eastern and Western elements. One of dish is tasted like fried Chinese turnip cake but with a twist of truffle that tickles your taste buds. Every course is definitely a surprise. Overall, the dining experience is enjoyable and worth every penny.

The menu here was surprisingly complex and insanely flavorful! I'd booked dinner here on a lark, not knowing what to expect, and was so glad I'd found Oxalis. Upgrade for the truffle supplement, you will not regret it!
Be the first to ReplyThere are some hits and misses with the carte blanche.
Their sourdough was truly phonomenal - crispy on the outside, warm and soft on the inside (it's SO GOOD). Some of the food was simply way too salty for my liking. Flavors at oxalis tend to be bold, and sometimes not matching. One star off for the taste of some of the dishes. But their service is amazing! Their mocktail pairing was also super nice!

Had one of the best hospitality experiences I've ever had at Oxalis tonight! I had mentioned on Resy that I would be there tonight for my anniversary with my husband and didn't think anything of it, but when we walked it they had a personalized note, a welcome glass of wine, and a gift when we left. The food was incredible and the staff was outstanding! In a time when special events don't feel as special as they once did, Oxalis made this a night we won't forget and we're so grateful!
Be the first to ReplyThis was really my first tasting menu I've ever had and I
This was really my first tasting menu I've ever had and I gotta say I was blown away with the experience. I came out of that place with a huge smile on my face and extremely satisfied. I think Oxalis has the whole package that was perfect for me.The environment was casual yet high end which really helps you be able to relax while enjoying their food. Once you go in you're greeted with smiles by everyone working there and I mean everyone because they have a their open kitchen right at the entrance so the chefs are there too. I would say it feels like going over to your friends nice cozy apartment to eat a really good meal. You could almost talk to the chefs while you're enjoying your meal. My partner and I had lots of fun just watching them cook and seeing how well they worked together and treated our food. The attention to detail the service staff had was on a whole other level from what I've experienced. Like I said before from the moment you come in everyone gives you a huge warm welcome and the hostess leads you to your table. The waitresses who come after every course was very friendly when checking up on us and seeing what we liked or disliked. They even gave us tips on how to better enjoy some of the courses. One other cool thing I noticed was how they even fold up your napkin when you go to the bathroom. That was a nice touch.Of course the food here was really amazing too. My partner and I got the carte blanche ($112 tasting menu) which came with 11 dishes which took about 2.5 hours to finish. I won't really go into specifics for each course since I think you should go into it as a surprise but you can tell each dish was thoroughly to have their own distinct complex flavor that makes it fun to try to figure out what they've done to make it so good. I think my favorite part was the dessert, probably because I'm more of a sweets person but there were flavors I have never experienced before. The drinks alone could be a reason to go there too. We didn't do a drink pairing but we both ordered a drink. My partner isn't really one to get alcoholic drinks so it was a pleasant surprise to see them having non alcoholic sodas. Honestly when we first ordered it we weren't expecting much since places usually put more emphasis on alcoholic drinks but damn, their sodas are not something to pass on. I would say it's on par with their seasonal cocktails which were amazing as well. One thing I gotta say is how much I loved their sourdough. They actually bake it dark which I rarely see but I think that's the best way since the crust gets this amazing crunchiness and almost caramelized taste to it. Pairing it with their butter and buttermilk made it even better. Man I will continue to dream about that bread and wish I could have that for breakfast every morning. Thank you to the chef who made this!Overall I would definitely recommend if you want great food with a comfortable environment. I can't wait to come back here when the seasonal menu changes!

Went to get fine dining from this Michelin-Star-owned restaurant. We got the Carte Blanche platter, which was $70 each. The food was admittedly very delicious, many of the bites were amazing and the flavors burst in your mouth. The tuna with squid ink was good. However, I have one huge gripe with this restaurant, and it was that we were here from way too long, from evening to nighttime. This is because the dishes came out super slowly despite finishing our portions very fast. The ambiance of the restaurant was excellent though.

Had been wanting to try this place for dinner but had an opportunity to check it out as a brunch option while in the neighborhood as part of pre-museum plans. There are other places nearby that offer brunch but I had already been to them and wanted to try some place new. Reading other reviews highlighting the "elevated" brunch experience, i thought to try it out. So yes, it is pricey for brunch but the pre fix brunch menu is unique - not your run of the mill brunch dishes but still "brunch-like" enough...and definitely filling and delicious. If you love has browns or anything potato - Do yourself a favor and order the potatoes as an add on if they aren't part of your pre fix - even if you don't live has browns, this dish may convert you. The staff also is amazing. This restaurant is all about quality service and making the diner feel like all attention is on them (in a good way), so friendly, pleasant and cordial. It is all perfection. Will definitely be coming back for dinner.
