Far exceeded expectations.
I don't remember the last tasting menu I had where every dish was phenomenal, but Pearl Street managed to exceed every dish with their next just about. The fermented white asparagus was my favorite, but every dish was amazing. It's the perfect blend of approachable yet unique. It didn't try too hard or rely on classics. If you changed the setting and charged triple the price, the food wood be at home at any multi Michelin star establishment. The selfish part of me didn't want to write this review, because I don't want the reservations to become unattainable but Pearl Street deserves to be recognized. I don't know where their NY Times write up or Eater Mis En Place video is, but that's the only thing keeping them from being one of the hardest to get reservations in NY. Truly impressed.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a great intimate experience we had at Pearl Street.
We walked into the little 10 seat counter space and were immediately greeted by Charlie, a great hostess! We had seats at the corner and watching the crew in the small kitchen behind the counter made for a wonderful show. Both the raw and savory dishes were spot on. We had the sea-cuterie and the oysters were simply fresh and delicious; the shrimp were succulent; and the chili crisp tuna crudo was really excellent. The star of the seafood show was the scallops, perfectly prepared and exploding with flavor. Moving to land the Gambas Al Ajillo was creamy and delicious. The smoked waygu roll was super flavorful, and the PB&J Triangles With Foie Gras Ganache was a great experience. So book your reservation, be one of the ten people enjoying the show. You will not be disappointed.
Be the first to ReplyThe location is a bit hard to find, even as a (new) local.
But the waitress picked me up outside kind of expecting me to get lost in front of the restaurant. John, the chef, does a great job preparing the delicious food in front of you and then explain what you ordered. It gives you a feeling of being taken well care of. The portions are tiny and so you need to get more then one or two plates. The place is small, doable for 10 persons. They do private events, too.

Amazing service, amazing food, wish we would have came sooner! Can't wait to return. Every dish is very well thought out and having the tasting menu or Al a carte available is very convenient. Chef John and Franklin's attention to detail was impeccable and descriptions were very helpful and resourceful. All of the staff were very welcoming, a great addition to the neighborhood.

Last night, my wife, an out-of-town friend, and I embarked on a culinary adventure at this hidden gem, and what an unforgettable experience it was! We initially hesitated to try something new, but from the moment we walked in, the ambiance and the open kitchen setup put us at ease. The chef's dialogue and the meticulous preparation of each dish added a unique and fascinating touch to our evening. Opting for the Chef's tasting was a game-changer, offering an incredible value at just under $100 for an impressive 8-course meal--a steal in the heart of NYC. The food was a symphony of flavors, each dish masterfully crafted, clean, and bursting with creativity. The scallops with cauliflower puree, vibrant ceviche, and the delightful surprise of a PB&J were standout moments. What sets this place apart is the ability to enjoy the sophistication of fine dining without the pretentiousness and stuffiness often associated with upscale establishments. We left eager to return. Kudos to the chef and the team for an exceptional dining experience--we can't wait to indulge in more culinary delights!

I don't write too many reviews, but this place is a gem and just what we needed. Intimate space, great and unique food, excellent people, and great conversation. We tried a bunch of different dishes and chef's selections. A wonderful meal.

Pearl Street offers raw bar items as well as chef-inspired 'snacks' - they only have counter seating available, and you can also reserve for a chef's tasting menu that includes 8 courses. We came here to get some 'snacks', and tried: +Sea-cuterie for Two - includes 1/2 a dozen of oysters (served with apple/jalapenos, shallot mignonette, and cocktail sauce), shrimp cocktail (served with lemon, cocktail sauce, and yuzu Kewpie), tuna crudo (with kumquat, radish, scallions, and a chili relish), cured salmon (with everything crumble, cucumber, pickled shallots, and crispy shallots), cultured butter, and toasted brioche; we also added a couple of ounces of Ossetra caviar; generous portions +Wagyu Cheesesteak Rolls - thinly-sliced A Bar N Ranch beef, goat horn peppers, and 'whiz'; we weren't fans of this +Maitake Confit & Toasted Farro - with shiitake and truffle cream and a 2-year old Parm +PB & J Triangles with Foie Gras Ganache - on milk bread with strawberry Smucker's and Jif; more like pb & j sandwiches, as you can't really taste the foie gras The staff and service were both great. Intimate setting with a laid-back vibe. +friendly service +reservations made on Resy

BEST restaurant in dumbo , hands down what the neighborhood needed. service is amazing. for a small space, they create some really good dishes. scallops, wagyu cheesesteaks, tuna and frito pie were my favorites. Michelin star soon!

2nd time back here, first time we came here it was still only tasting menu allowed and it was genuinely amazing. This time it's a little different, here is why: 1. We have been a great fan of the tomatoes since last tasting menu we had an awesome tomato salad so we decided to give the shrimp piccata with bitter greens a try since they told us it will have the tomatoes. Im not a fan of this since the bitterness overpowers everything, even eating with the sweetest cherry tomatoes it doesn't help at all. Maybe tone it down a bit? 2. The cheese fondue is very bad, sourest cheese + super sour pickles? It wasn't enjoyable to be honest, I am a believer in balancing flavors and layers of them but this just sour on sour on sour, the sour dough was so tough it hurts to chew. Those above constitutes the 1 star off. It was just not good. Maitake confit is AMAZING, hands down the dish to die for, the portion is actually great I am drooling thinking about it, the wagyu bun is also amazing!!! Cheap sweet buns + wagyu + some jalapeรฑo and straw berry jam= BOMB!!!! The PBJ is ok, I can't taste foie gras much but it's delicious Now let's talk about services, we saw that on Resy there were a table for two available at 6pm and we were just outside so we directly stepped in, we were told that we absolutely cannot do a tasting menu since they need the table back at 7:30pm. Sure it's alright, but at least have 2 types of reservations on Resy to make it clear. It is confusing:) the chefs r amazing and friendly.

Question is where is the Michelin star??? Recently went to Kochi, Blue Hill etc, Pearl St is easily much much better no questions asked

Wine pairing was sensational! It went very well with all the food. Loved the caviar, skate, venison, bread and beat salad. The dessert was great too! Don't recommend using the facilities though as it is shared by the building. Inside is cozy and you watch them prepare all the food in a barebones kitchen very successfully. Sommelier was very knowledgeable

Wow. Stunning experience. Unique and laid-back atmosphere, probably the nicest fine dining in this area. Finally, we felt that this is a spot that warrants a reason for peopleto visit the neighborhood. We loved experiencing all the quality and class of a Michelin-starred restaurant without the pretentiousness. Everyone is jamming to the music, vibing, and having a great time. It's just so comfortable! Loved our host/server, he was incredibly charismatic and fun.The food was simple yet imaginative, and everything is prepped in perfect choreography in an impossibly small space. Kudos to the chefs. I am lactose intolerant and they accommodated my dietary restriction like a dream. In fact, my date felt that some of the courses I had were even better than his own. We'll definitely come back to visit. Thanks for an amazing evening.

Finally a restaurant that is creative and delicious. Loved every bite. We will definitely be back!

The food was incredible--creative, super elevated, and above all, delicious. It's by far the best food in DUMBO, and the only restaurant in the neighborhood that I think is worth a trip from elsewhere. (They have their liquor license now so there's also a wine pairing as well as an extensive a la carte wine list.) Service was warm and flawless. The atmosphere is relaxed but very unique: a tiny little closet-like storefront transformed into a high-end chef's counter. There's something exciting and special about the whole experience of a tasting menu of this caliber served in this tiny, unassuming spot. Would work for date night, impressing foodies visiting from out of town, or dinner with a couple friends. Stop reading reviews and book now before word gets out--this is your chance to actually be ahead of the NY food curve for once.
Be the first to ReplyDefinitely one of the most unique fine dining restaurants
Definitely one of the most unique fine dining restaurants in NYC. - The food is just as good, if not better than michelin-starred spots in the city. My fav were the fish dishes and adorable desserts!! plus i heard they change up the menu frequently depending on seasonal ingredients so you know you are only getting the freshest - The location and decor is very intimate and atypical of fine dining spots (it's in a small mall-like set up with a bunch of other stores), but it really embodies the NYC charm that you can't find at the other more stuffy joints- the price (at only 130 a person!!) is only the icing on the cakeSaw another review that someone left hungry so I was a little bit worried, but I was full at the end!

They create an amazing fresh, unique New England tasting menu in a space that no one in DUMBO thought could provide fine dining. The space works. Their temporary alcohol license is coming end of October. I feel like they may get a Michelin star.

Casual vibe. I had a really good time here130 bucks per person is definitely a bargainI left feeling fulfilled. The portion is big enough for me

I AM SO HUNGRY! SO, SO, SOOOO HUNGRY! Tonight, I had a slice of apple, tomato, 2 oysters, slice of fish, fish liquid and LOTS of water! "Dessert" was regrettable and tasted like baby food. No alcohol and it's ok that you don't have your liquor license yet, I get it, but there is NO EXCUSE for your patrons leaving hungry! Get a friggin' bread course or THREE! What a train wreck! Don't eat here unless you grab a pizza or dinner first.

Went on opening night - absolutely delicious, and such a special experience. The food is incredible and so unique. You'll enjoy tons of fresh seafood and produce that you maybe haven't even heard of. Service is incredible too. The best addition to the Dumbo neighborhood!
