TOUR of MULL EXCELLENT ACCOMMODATION
Myself and my wife booked into the delightful Pennygate Lodge to be met by Tony, who made sure we were both welcome and where to find everything. The room was excellent, the bed comfortable, the walk in rainfall shower was a delight. My only slight downside was the very intermittent wi-fi, something I'm sure Tony will address over the winter months ready for the 23 season.

What a lovely hotel, very smart decor, lots of attention to detail, friendly reception from Tony. The restaurant bar is run by Rema and her husband, the food here is top class, great taste, presentation, use of locally sourced ingredients. Breakfast too has a great choice prepared to your specific taste. I am so pleased we chose this accommodation, i would recommend without hesitation.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful suite, great views and ideal location for ferry
I stayed here for 2 nights with my husband. We received an upgrade to a suite that was nothing short of luxurious. Breakfasts and evening meals were very good. I received prior warning when I booked that the restaurant was closed on Sundays but we struggled to find another place to eat that evening.so be aware and try to book somewhere else on the island. I was slightly disappointed by the lack of gluten free options on the menu despite there being at least other 3 other guests who were on gf diets while we were staying and advising when I booked. The menu states that gf alternatives are available but actually non gf items were removed and more of another ingredient was added rather than a gf version. Overall, however, a wonderful stay and would highly recommend.

Its always difficult to get accommodation on Mull for business but this place is an excellent location and super quality. The check in is a little different but absolutely fine, The team are super friendly the rooms are lovely and the showers are great. Beds are super comfy. Breakfasts are to die for and you are really looked after. Will definitely return with my partner.

Our first time on the Isle of Mull and Pennygate was the perfect location to visit both ends of the island and with no rush to get to the ferry on the last day. The hotel has very comfortable and well-equipped rooms. We were made to feel very welcome. The hotel had been recommended to us and we would certainly recommend it too.

What a superb small hotel/upmarket B and B or possibly more appropriate ‘restaurant with rooms’. We stayed in the Duart room with the sensational bathroom with a view. So much to rave about this place. Owners are not obtrusive but there when you need them (no iron available so Fiona ironed for us), and they have a wonderful attention to detail. Comfortable beds, impeccable linen, fluffy towels and great Highland Soaps bathroom products (top tip aloe vera hand wash doubles as great shave gel if you run out!). And something I usually comment on - water pressure! Wow - rain shower was stunning, worth booking just for that! Location is incredible for most ventures around this stunning island, then quick trip for ferry!

We stayed two nights at the Pennygate Lodge. This is a VERY high end BB. Rooms are big, brand new, very well and nicely furnished and clean. Service is excellent. Breakfast is not a buffet, but the chef will accommodate your special requests. If we will be back on the Isle of Mull, we will come back to the same place. This is an Excellent price for value
Be the first to ReplyAbsolutely perfect!
We had dinner at the Pennygate Lodge to have a change from the hotel we were staying at and immediately booked a table for the following evening. For good reason. After having been the head chef for 9 years at a large nearby hotel, Noel set up his own business with Rema in April 2022. And what a success! The food was fantastic, easily the best meals we had during a 12-day stay in Scotland. The produce are all fresh and sourced locally, and are perfectly prepared by Noel, the chef. The service is adorable, with Rema extending a warm welcome and both Noel and Rema taking the time (when they had the time) to chat and tell us more about their enterprise. The setting is great: tastefully and elegantly decorated, the dining room looks out over Craignure Bay, with magnificent sunsets if you're there at the right time. To sum it up: absolutely fantastic. We didn't see the rooms as we were staying elsewhere, but if they are anywhere near the restaurant in terms of quality, they must be great. We wish Rema and Noel huge success in this new milestone of their lives... they really deserve it. Emmanuelle, Caroline and Elliott Geisinger

This is the place… Friendly, welcoming and so comfortable and beautiful decor. I would choose Pennygate over somewhere like Crerar’s Isle of Mull Hotel & Spa without a shadow of a doubt. No comparison whatsoever. A much better experience. And the food! The food Noel is producing there is most likely the best on the island by far. Perfectly conceived and executed, carefully plated, but most importantly of course, truly delicious. This place deserves to become a culinary destination in the Western Isles. Truly. And I hope they get there.

Fiona was an excellent host and provided lots of interesting information about the isle and various wildlife haunts. The location of the hotel was ideal just a few minutes walk from the ferry terminal. We stayed for two nights. Our room was very clean with superb views and an amazing bathroom! All areas of the hotel were exceptionally clean and decorated to a high standard. The lounge was a lovely room to relax in with a pleasant view of the garden which is well tended. Breakfast was served in the restaurant which is run by Noel, the chef and Rema his wife. We had dinner in the restaurant which was exceptional - almost fine dining. Rema’s attention to detail at front of house was superb, as was the food. A great hotel with a super host and an incredible restaurant. We would recommend it without reservation.

A wonderful b&b/hotel in a fantastic location with beautifully appointed rooms. Loved the abundant ground coffee, local biscuits and micellar face cleanser in the bath room. Very tasty food and great library of books on Mull, Scotland and wildlife.
Be the first to ReplyIncredibly beautiful place and wonderful hosts!
A beautiful cottage with gorgeous rooms, stunning garden and sea view run by a kind helpful family. The food is fantastic and service flawless. You can feel how much love went into this place! They organised a great wildlife tour for us and were very accommodating with our 8-month old son. There are also very tasty vegetarian friendly options on the menu, which is hard to find. An all round wonderful stay in a beautiful place with unrivalled hospitality. We will be back for sure. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyPerfect place to stay for a visit to Mull
My family and I stayed at the Pennygate Lodge in July and we had an absolutely fantastic time. The lodge is positioned on top of a hill overlooking Craignure bay. This means that the front-facing rooms have a fantastic view of the harbor and the sunset too. The rooms we stayed in were beautifully designed and appointed. Bathrooms are very nicely laid out and there is a great selection of snacks, tea and coffee in the room too. The rooms are quiet, peaceful and very comfy. Fiona and Steve looked after us very well, giving us great recommendations for activities and walks to do. The onsite restaurant serves the included breakfast as well as lunch and dinner. We ate breakfast every day which was delicious! We also ate in the restaurant twice for dinner. There is a great selection of dishes to cater to meat or vegetarian diners. Rema and Noel were kind, warm and accommodating, helping to make small changes to dishes to cater to dietary needs. In my opinion, Pennygate is the perfect place to stay if visiting Mull! The views are great, rooms/restaurant and owners are lovely, the location is ideal both for accessing the ferry and the island’s attractions.

We very much enjoyed a 4 night stay at Pennygate Lodge. This is a beautifully appointed house with a lovely garden overlooking Craignure Bay. On arrival we were welcomed by owner Fiona who showed us to our room (Staffa) which was extremely comfortable and thoughtfully furnished. The bathroom facility in particular is of a high standard. We booked dinner in the restaurant on three of our four nights (as it’s closed on Tuesday evening). The restaurant side of the business is run by husband and wife team Noel (chef) and Rema (front of house). The food is delicious and their friendly service make it a great dining experience. During our stay Fiona recommended some local walks and advised on boat trips to Staffa. If we return to Mull we would definitely opt to stay at Pennygate Lodge again and have no hesitation in recommending it to others.

Wow what a place , beautiful building and views to die for . Bedroom and bathroom top notch all quality stuff. Breakfast very good but you really must have an evening meal there, best meal of our trip in Scotland. Can’t wait to return. Mull is beautiful, roads are fine loads of passing places nothing to worry about . Craignure has shop, 2 cafes and a pub but is so handy as it’s terminal for ferry .
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing lack of hospitality from the owners and poor value
We are rather bemused by the number of 5 star reviews awarded to this hotel, in particular praise for the owners, as our experience was rather different. Although our room was perfectly clean and comfortable it was nothing special and certainly rather cramped given the price of £300 per night B&B, which was payable in advance. However our main criticism is the hands off approach of the owners, Fiona and Tony. After a brief welcome from Fiona when we arrived, we saw no more of the owners for the rest of our stay. It was left to the restaurant manager, a lovely lady named Rema, to explain the arrangements when we went for dinner. The restaurant is run as a separate business and the breakfasts and dinners were delicious but there was no-one to speak with local knowledge about our stay. Our impression was that the owners wished to distance themselves from the running of the place but didn't have the courtesy to explain to guests the new set up. Compared to the charming B&B we stayed at nearTobermory a few nights before,,run by a couple who took great care of their guests, Pennygate was extremely disappointing. Come on Fiona and Tony your guests and the Isle of Mull deserve better!
Be the first to ReplyMuch needed and appreciated luxury
A luxurious stay with a super restaurant right there as well. Having had our nerves wrecked by a week of Mull roads, this was the perfect route back to sanity. Best night's sleep in ages and a wonderful view to the sea. Very welcoming hosts and superb meal in the restaurant too, made a perfect end to our holiday.

After driving through the Highlands for more than a week on fiendishly narrow, relentlessly twisting roads amidst surprisingly impatient Scots, our three-night sojourn in the Pennygate Lodge was a wonderful and delightfully relaxing tonic. Mull exceeded our expectations, and this immaculately restored, beautifully appointed manse was the ideal base. I rarely write reviews, but Pennygate Lodge deserves it - very highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful in all respects
From the moment we phoned to say we were going to be late and on foot rather than with a car, we knew Pennygate Lodge was going to be a special place to stay. One where the proprietors go out of their way to provide a personal service. Despite its proximity to the ferry port in Craignure (which is super convenient) Fiona came down to collect us in her car as it was raining. She could not have been a more welcoming and friendly host. In addition to being a really welcoming place to stay, Pennygate Lodge also gets full marks for all the essentials, including a super comfortable bed and immaculately clean room. As it turned out, not having a car on Mull was awesome! It meant we ate at the fab restaurant in Pennygate lodge every night of our stay. And, having eaten there, why would you want to go anywhere else!? The food was delicious. We also got to travel by local bus, which meant we could enjoy the scenery and the wonderful commentary from the bus driver! We also enjoyed the gorgeous garden, sea views and spectacular sunsets. Pennygate lodge has it all. It will exceed your expectations.
