Pequod's Pizza Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
Here's a revised version of your review: A friend
Here's a revised version of your review: A friend recommended this pizza spot to us, so we decided to give it a try. We arrived around 11:30 am, and the place was packed. We ordered wings and a deep dish pizza. While I'm not usually a fan of deep dish, I was willing to give it another chance at this place. We opted for pepperoni and Italian sausage on our deep dish. The wait wasn't too long, and when we finally got our pizza, I was disappointed. It lacked cheese, sauce, and was overly burnt on the edges. When I asked our waitress about it, she explained that it's how their deep dish is prepared, with the edges coated in burnt cheese. This style didn't win me over, and I prefer my thin slice New York style pizza. I was very disappointed with the overall taste, as it felt more burnt than perfectly cooked. Although we may have gotten a bad pie, I would still recommend to friends and family. If I come back to Chicago, i would try another local pizza spot. Additionally, I ordered a margarita, but it was poorly made and watered down. They also don't provide any fruits for your beverage, like orange, lemon, or lime, due to concerns about fruit flies.
Went for lunch, 3 guests total.
First time here. Leaning more towards 4.5 stars. Got 3 personal pan pizzas and a combination fried appetizer platter to share. Was seated upstairs exactly at the time of our lunch reservation. Location: this place is bigger than expected, and i expected it to be packed, but it wasn't even half full. 2 floors. It was classic old school pizza place meets sports restaurant. This would be a great place to watch a blackhawks game for sure. Booth seats were a bit worn (sinking in too far when you sit down) and could use replacing but in general all was clean and neat. Service: all staff members we interacted with were great, smiles, professional, they were quick on their feet and properly attentive to taking our order and serving us. TY Food: Appetizer platter was good, portion size could be a bit larger, but was served hot, crunchy and flavorful. none of that old oil taste or texture here. Pizzas were yummy, sauce was great. The first bite of the dark crunchy cheese around the edge was a bit worrying, but after a couple bites I was really enjoying it. It looks like burnt cheese around the edges, but I will tell you this is done the right way at pequod's and it adds to the flavor of it all together. Would I say it's the best pizza in Chicago? Probably not. Is it good, yes. Will I go back, yes, but no need to run back there super soon. But probably for dinner with a few friends to watch a hawks game and give a full size pizza with more toppings and some other menu items a shot.
My fave deep dish, and a convenient option before catching
My fave deep dish, and a convenient option before catching a movie across the street. I love the classic cheese pizza and the way the edges get caramelized! You'll need to make a reservation well in advance if you're looking to dine in, but the online ordering system also works well. The side of chicken tenders completed the comfort food circle.
This was my first experience with deep dish.
Placing the online pickup order was easy. Pick up was smooth, just make sure you have your digital receipt. The pizza had great flavor, but not enough cheese and way too bready.
The pizza was good.
We tried the first weekend they were named the best pizza in the country. I personally enjoyed the crust. The kids enjoyed the thin crust cheese. I definitely would recommend trying it out.
2024 update! We can get delivery now.
Treat yourself! You won't regret it! Always the best and we have never had a bad pizza here.
The pizza here was the best deep dish I've ever had after
The pizza here was the best deep dish I've ever had after living in Chicagoland almost 50 years. Service was good and attentive even on a busy night. Great pizza place with the feel of just a regular pub.
Me and my fiancé came on a Sunday afternoon craving some
Me and my fiancé came on a Sunday afternoon craving some pequods deep dish pizza as we took 15/20 min to find parking we finally found a spot and walked in just it be greeted so cold and to be told sorry we have all tables filled with reservations till 10pm. It's sad cause coming from the food industry most restaurants keep a couple tables for walk ins I guess to do business here you must need a reservation...
We tried all the top Chicago style pizza places and this
We tried all the top Chicago style pizza places and this was by far the best! Make sure you have a reservation though because they are packed!
Yes it's the best pizza in the USA! The crust is the best
Yes it's the best pizza in the USA! The crust is the best part for me. The sausage is so tasty and the cheese is so delicious. Excellent service. Waitress was very attentive and staff was accommodating for table away from heavy traffic area. The place was popping. The decor was ok but it didn't matter with this pizza. MUST try it
That carmelized cheesy crust around the edges, makes it!
Was in town wanting to try deep dish pizza - just about everything I read online, mentioned the pizza here as one of the best. I had pizza at a couple of the other places too, but this one was my favorite. I loved that carmelized cheesy crust that formed around the edges of the pizza - that put it over the top for me and a major reason I enjoyed it over the competitors. Overall, really good texture of the thick crust, tasty sauce & toppings, lots of cheese, and just a really great pizza. I had half pepperoni, and half pepperoni with fresh garlic & anchovies - I've never had anchovies on a pizza before (or on anything come to think of it), and it was very good, without overpowering everything else.
Not a Fan
Not at all impressed! Burnt crust not tasty. Not getting the hype on this one. Very doughy, lack of flavor, meat burnt too.
Perfect Pequod's Pizza
We were recommended Pequod's Pizza as one the best places to try classic Chicago deep-dish pizza. They did not disappoint. The service was prompt and very helpful. The pizzas we ordered were delicious. High recommended.
PIZZA!
Somebody Feed Phil, Season 3, Chicago, on Netflix...this looked so good I had to go during my Chicago mens' wifeless weekend. And by the grace of Gawd, they do take reservations weeks in advance! We running late on our reservation time, but I called in advance, and Pequod's thankfully held my reservation. The interior is casual pizzeria, and it smells great! The staff are friendlier than most other eateries, thanks! $9 Fried Zucchini...cut into thin slices, breaded thickly, and deep fried crisp...yum! $40 Pequod's Chicago Pizza is really good! We got the large with pepperoni, meatball, and mushrooms. They put cheese high up along the edges of the pan, giving the outer crust a nice cheesy crisp. The cheese and fragrant red sauce are generous. Its a hot, thick, filling, and magical pizza! The four of us men were full and fatty. Large start at $26, $5 for meat toppings, $4 for veggies.
I guess I was expecting more
Being in Chicago for the first time, I felt that i had to have a deep dish pizza at least once. Doing some research, Pequod’s seemed to be the place to go. We made reservations for mid week. Traffic was terrible, so we called that we would be late, but they didn’t seem bothered by it. We arrived 30min after our set reservation, and it wasn’t that busy. The place is cavernous, but we’re eventually seated near the back. Our server helped walk us through the menu, and explained that it typically takes 45min to prep a pizza. Fortunately, it wasn’t too busy so it actually only took 15min. We ordered both a deep dish and thin crust. The deep dish was good, with the crispy edges. Personally, i think having so much topping is too much for me, but still enjoyed it. I thought the thin crust wasn’t special at all. I’m glad I got to try it. But didn’t find it particularly unique enough to desire it again
Delicious deep dish
Place to go to experience delicious deep dish pizza. Especially if you've had bad immitations around the world , this is what it's all about
My favorite option over Giordano’s or Lou Malnati’s
Great option before any game but would suggest making reservations- also like most Deep Dish options - be prepared it is about a 45 min cook time. Love the burnt cheese side-crust
Never again
Burned crust pizza. Not unique in anyway. Wait time horrible. Very bad service. Smile is an optional according to your color
Why did it take so long?
I've been a pizza lover since the late 1940s. My parents often entertained friends on Saturday nights in our recreation hall/party room/bar/basement. They would order several pizzas from the only pizza parlor in our area--they were big on pepperoni--and my brother and I would go downstairs in the morning to munch on cold pizza. Now there is a pizza parlor on every block. And pepperoni is as popular as ever. Lately, I have been looking for a new favorite pizza parlor. My old favorite moved out of our neighborhood. Another went out of business. One stopped delivering in our neighborhood. What to do? Recently, I have been sampling from one place to another. I've come to love Pequods Pizza. Why did it take so long? In recent years, Pequods has been rated as the No. 1 pizza in Chicago by several critics, pizza surveys and food magazines. So I finally decided to give it a try. Located at 2207 North Clybourn Avenue in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, it is everything that it is advertised to be. Personally, I prefer delivery. I enjoy eating pizza while watching a movie or sporting event on TV. And I always order a charge pizza so I can reheat some slices at a later time, maybe the late movie. I haven't changed my order in years...a large, 16-inch thin crust cheese and sausage pizza with extra sausage. I especially like Pequods pizza because the crust is thin and light and chewy. Not too much tomato sauce. Not too much cheese. Plenty of sausage. No pepperoni. More good news. It isn't likely that Pequods will be moving out of the neighborhood any time soon.

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
