Philippe Chow New York Reviews from The Last Year
never get tired of phillipes my favorite is beijing chicken
never get tired of phillipes my favorite is beijing chicken walnut shrimp pork fried rice lemon drop sugar rim with casamigos respasado or the phillippetini they never disappoint but i do prefer the meatpacking location calm setting great staff midtown more busy and loud
Went for dinner with a friend at 6pm on a weekday.
The restaurant was pretty empty and they tried to give us and another couple the worst two tables all the way in the corner in the back. We were both told that there were reservations for the tables that we had requested and the booth that the other couple wanted. We settled on tables next to each other in the front section and watched the tables that they wouldn't give us remain empty until we both left. The chicken satay was outstanding but the rest of the food was average at best. I WILL NEVER RETURN based on the attitude of the hostess and assistant manager, Christy Truong, who was beyond rude to us. The other couple was in town from Long Island and they said the same thing. This is an over priced Chinese restaurant that is past its prime. I'm sure the Miami location will close within a year.

Food was amazing, especially the appetizers which had a unique taste like no other Chinese luxury cuisine in so many years of NYC dining. The overall ambience in the main room had a classic UES buzzing energy as one would expect from PC. The waiter was not very professional; for example didn't seem to have heard of the items on the menu that I requested, and missed a few other key points such as hello, goodbye and how was your meal. MMA fight on TV gave more of a lower class feel as well. 3.5/5 this round but I will likely be back to try other dishes which looked truly mouth-watering as they came out.

Was delighted to get a reservation for 14 at the last moment, but now wish they hadn't had room for us. Experienced multiple disappointments throughout the meal. In priority order: 1) a server indicated that a dumpling dish was vegetarian when it was not, with subsequent consumption and emotional trauma, 2) the prix fixe menu items were quite heavy (e.g., with breading, oils, and sauces), 3) had to re-order drinks multiple times, 4) had to re-order two soup orders (which basically became part of the entrees), 5) service was not very attentive in general, and 6) desserts came without dessert plates and utensils for some diners. For as much as we paid, I expected a lot more.
I was shocked at how much I enjoyed this place.
Based on the reviews, I thought I wasn't going to but this place is still the GIRL. Been around forever and still thriving. Must get the duck (obvi) and lychee martini was so yum. Lettuce wraps were also a must get. Portions are big so share a few plates between your group. Obvi expect a little bit of a touristy crowd compared to other midtown restaurants in the area but for the food it's worth it.
The food is excellent as well as the drinks.
Service is spectacular and the environment is balanced with music and laughter.

Philippe Chow never disappoints, no matter the city! From Washington to New York, their consistency is remarkable. Our favorite dishes--filet mignon with sugar snaps, chicken satay, and Philip Chow noodles--are always impeccably prepared. The ambiance sets the perfect tone for a romantic date night. Can't wait for them to open in Miami!
Wonderful dinner.
Free champagne during appetizers. Music was low and appropriate. Food was excellent.
Excellent experience.
I had the Crispy Duck and it was perfect! Highly recommend. Will definitely return.
Sooo good in all aspects! My best friend and I came here
Sooo good in all aspects! My best friend and I came here for the first time the other day and it was AMAZING. We made a reservation maybe 30 minutes before online (you need one to dine in) and walked in with no issues. We were greeted right away and seated within 5 minutes after checking our coats. The ambiance in the restaurant was very warm and inviting. I will say that as the night went on, they appeared to dim the lights in the dining area so keep that in mind. As for the food, I ordered the vegetable fried rice with the sweet and sour chicken and my friend had the shrimp fried rice with the kung pao chicken. I kid you not, I will be having dreams about that fried rice and sweet and sour chicken for the foreseeable future. The rice was soo fresh and yummy and the chicken had the perfect mix of sweet and tanginess to it. As for the portion sizes, they are very generous so keep in mind you will be leaving with a doggy bag lol. During dinner, we were given complimentary champagne which was unexpected but a nice touch. We ended dinner with the warm chocolate lava cake which was delicious and the perfect ending to a great day/dinner. All in all, I cannot wait to go back!
How would you like to wait an hour on Valentine's Day for
How would you like to wait an hour on Valentine's Day for your reserved table? We had the pleasure of doing just that, when we arrived at Phillippe's Chow for our 9:30 reservation only to find a queue of over 30 people stretching right outside the front door into the frigid night air. We waited outside in the cold for 15 minutes, as harried wait staff briskly made their way through the plastic enclosure surrounding the outdoor seating area. As the make shift "doors' flapped in the wind, we remarked how lucky we were that we wouldn't be eating out there.Forty-five minutes later, when we were still waiting for our table, we realized we had spoken too soon. As the hostess shouted out names for waiting patrons like she was working in a 24 hr diner, we were told our reservation should be considered merely a place holder, ensuring that some time that night we would get a table. When, however, was anyone's guess. And yeah, all the other people waiting, they had reservations, too. We were finally seated at about 10:30 p.m., an hour later, and it was in the downstairs seating area, near the open front door, with a line of people with reservations STILL waiting to check in with the front desk. A nice gust of cold air from the people waiting in the open entryway made for a frigid dining room, so we were forced to put our coats back on. Ironically, we were eating outside after all. Finally, with our drinks served and orders placed, we thought we might just make the best of the night. Little did we know we wouldn't get our food until 1:00 am. That's right, we sat there for three hours, having only been served our appetizers, and waited as other patrons ate, paid their bill, left, and had their tables prepped for new guests, who also ordered and ate their appetizers. An hour in, at about midnight, we finally called for the manager but he didn't offer much in consolation. The kitchen was backed up, he said, but he'd give us a round of drinks on the house. He couldn't tell us when our food would be out but maybe, hopefully, soon. We bristled at the thought of paying for food that took hours to come out, but he said he couldn't comp us since we hadn't even been served yet. If and when we got our dinner, he assured us, we'd have to pay for it, in full. So we waited, with our waiter nowhere to be found. And then we got it, at 1:00 a.m., along with a hefty bill of over $200 for our pleasure. Should tourists and hard working New Yorkers looking for fine dining experience in posh Uptown New York go to Philippe Chow's? You can look all you want, but you won't find fine dining there. Go to a corner Chinese food spot, you won't notice the difference.

What a great night! Our waiter, Oscar, was very attentive and helpful. The atmosphere was beautiful. The food was amazing! My favorite was the chicken satay & the filet mignon with green beans, my mother loved the Peking duck. This was our first time at Philippe and it will not be the last!
