Q'Kenan Restaurant Orlando Reviews from The Last Year
Took me back to my origins
Named after the Matawi tepuy Kukenan Tepuy the name is already perfect. We came from Brazil to spend vacation in Orlando. We were wishing to taste again the missed flavors of our home land. No need to say that the food was marvelous and brought back many memories. We had cachapa, arepa, tequenios, empanadaa and malta. All was perfect. We landed there thinking we had a reservation but apparently we did not. Nevertheless, we were warmly received by the owner who is exactly as welcoming as all maracuchos are. After kidding each other, she made us feel at home. I recommend this restaurant to anyone that wants to taste authentic Venezuelan cuisine, and to any emigrated Venezuelan visiting Orlanfo who wants to be transported back to the once great Venezuela. I am happy my kids could experience a moment of the culture they always hear us talk about. Plates are well served. Tequenios are big, the Cachapas are generous and the arepa was a "truck wheel". I know ...we ordered too much but no regrets at all.
Great food and drinks
This restaurant has become one of our goto places when in Orlando. The smokey old fashioned and mojitos are fabulous. The meal is always outstanding We always look forward to stopping by.
Great experience
Alejandro was our server and he was fantastic. He guided us on what to get since we weren't sure what we were ordering. He made excellent recommendations and it was our best meal out of our entire vacation in Orlando. It was conveniently located near our hotel in a shopping mall area. We ordered the Mango drink and the Papelon. Mango was delicious and the Papelon reminded me something along the lines of an Arnold Palmer. Tea flavor with the tartness of lemonade. You could also taste the sugar cane. We ordered a Picanha with fried yuca and sweet plantains. Steak was seasoned great with fantastic fire/smokey flavor from the grill. My family also ordered the Cachapas and Patacon. Both were great in their own way. The flavors blended well together while not overpowering the flavors of the ingredients. The sweet plantains and the sweet corn were great paring with the ingredients inside the "wrappers/buns". Overall, great experience and I would certainly go back if we make our way back to Orlando. They were also very knowledgeable about gluten allergies and the amount of options for gluten free options were great. The patacon and cachapas were gluten free and that offers lot of options.
Yum!
Alfredo our server was great!! Try the pork belly.. the lime juice was fantastic on it! We tried a few other dishes, but the pork belly was by far the best
Sunday 2023/12/17 18:00 - my first time trying Venezuelan
Sunday 2023/12/17 18:00 - my first time trying Venezuelan food! - it was very loud because there was a big party happening at the back of the restaurant - we dined in as a party of 3 Montanita de Yuca ($7.00): "Fried Yuca Sticks Served with Red Paprika Sauce" - thick yuca fries with a satisfying dense texture - red paprika sauce was thick and creamy (maybe mayo-based?) Patacón With Picanha ($17.00): "Green or Sweet Plantain With Shredded Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato, and Tartar Sauce" with picanha (i.e., sirloin cap) - picanha didn't taste any different from ordinary steak - definitely a fork-and-knife sandwich with all the lettuce and cheese spilling out - I feel it would have tasted better if the cheese was hot and melted instead of just shredded Cachapa Queso Mano ($14.00): griddled sweet corn pancake sandwiching a thick slice of queso de mano, with sour cream on the side - queso de mano tasted really similar to mozzarella and had a rubbery texture, not melty at all - cachapa was pleasantly sweet and had a very soft, almost falling-apart texture
Definitely worth a visit!
Great value, nice service, food was plentiful-can’t go wrong with the lunch special, $12.99. I went midday so it wasn’t busy but I’m sure this place is busy when they have a live band.

We have been coming here for years when we take our annual trip to Orlando. It has grown so much but the quality of food and service has only gotten better! Gio took care of us today and he handled our large group with ease. Definitely recommend!!!

Arrived late evening to a resort nearby, was pleasantly surprised I could walk across the street to this "strip mall" and find a Venezuelan restaurant. Although it closed at 9, and I arrived near to 8:30, I wasn't rushed nor did the crew make me feel like I was inconveniencing them. The server was really helpful with suggestions based on what I told her I THOUGHT I had a taste for, wanting something "different and authentic", and clueless about Venezuelan food: I went with the beef AREPA!! OMG!! Steak seasoned to perfection and perfectly cooked to a med-well!! ( a couple of fatty bites, but that's what makes any steak have a flavor!) The cornmeal "sandwich" was a unique bite, u could tell the corn graininess, but not in a bad way. Fresh avocado and sauce was awesome! Beans and rice were good, and I had enough to take home and eat on again the next day! Got a mango ?smoothie that was also good Will def look up Venezuelan when i return to the DMV area and try other things! There's an area for a band/Dj: so prob gets lively on the weekend
A local gem !! You must try
We found this gem in Feb 2023 on vacation And returned March 2024 to eat here twice in the week. The food is wonderful, fresh and authentic tasting. The empanadas and mojitos are a must !!! And the happy hour is the best too. Oh and the Black beans are amazing! Staff is very friendly too.
Great service and good food, the empanadas are awesome.
The mushroom chicken was also very good
Fantastic Venezuelan Food
What a great dinner. Their happy hour is on until 8 pm. We shared a tostones relleno appetizer with shrimp, it was delicious. This was followed by arepas with grilled chicken and another with beef and plantains. Both were cooked perfectly. The seasoning was perfect on the chicken and the pulled beef was very tender. Our server. Alfredo was friendly, checked on us a few times and made sure we had a great dining experience.
Ordered Reina pepiada.
So disappointing, it was so bland. No cilantro, no onions, shredded chicken and mayonnaise and some avocado on top. I guess I've been spoiled by my husbands Reina pepiada that is overflowing with flavor! Make it right!
OMGEEE! My first time trying Venezuelan food and I'm in
OMGEEE! My first time trying Venezuelan food and I'm in love!!! Good thing I don't live here it Id be eating here every day I ordered the Cachapa Wuezo de Mano with shredded chicken and ripe plantains on the side. It's just the perfect balance of savory and slightly sweet deliciousness. They serve it with a dollop of sour cream on the side that makes an already perfect dish even better. The atmosphere is lively with salsa music playing and the staff is friendly and accommodating. What more can you ask for?
Great food, Great service! Excellent, 5 stars! As a bunch
Great food, Great service! Excellent, 5 stars! As a bunch of Gringos, we enjoyed all of the great Venezuelan food so don't be afraid to ask questions! Gio was very friendly and took the time to help!
5 stars for the food...
We ate here twice during our Orlando visit; though the food was excellent both times, the service was varied. The facility is clean and well-maintained; nestled in a strip-mall, just down from our favorite area sushi restaurant. Fortunately, on our first evening visit, our male server was friendly, accommodating and attentive. Being this was our 1st encounter with Venezuelan cuisine, he was very patient in answering our questions about what were the selections. We had the Arepa Santa Barbara mix (cheese, beef, sausage, & chicken), and the Cachapas Queso Mano (soft cheese, with added ham). Both were delicious and amply portioned (with enough leftover for later enjoyment). On our 2nd mid-afternoon visit, our female server was intermittently attentive at best...spending much of her time in conversation with another staff member at the front counter. Thankfully we had been well-informed on our 1st visit, and had a good idea of other offerings. This time we tried the Maracucha burger (bacon, cheese, egg, sweet plantain, potato sticks, etc.); a tasty colossus of a burger with plenty leftover for later indulgence. We look forward to further visits here when returning to Orlando, and trying other options; since even though the service varied, the food was 5 stars.
Second time we've been here.
Last time was a year ago for the same conference. Both times there was an event going on inside the restaurant. However, this didn't stop us from being able to eat outside on the patio. The Pabellon Criollo is excellent! The service is always good and the ambiance is fine, but the food is incredible.
Racist
I was the only black person in the restaurant at that time. The server Carlos asked me for my name. I spelled it out for him. When I looked at the receipt, he wrote my name as Mogoso which means color of rust. When my order came out and placed on the counter. My order was left there. They didn't even hand it to me with 3 employees standing there. Racist as hell. My first and last time going there. NEVER AGAIN!!!
We ordered Reina Pepiada and was overflowing of mayonnaise
We ordered Reina Pepiada and was overflowing of mayonnaise and not much avocado, the rest of the food was decent, tequeños and yuca frita was good. Unfortunately they took almost 45 mins to serve and the restaurant wasn't even full just two more parties seated. My andino breakfast with my carne empanadas came in when my family was done eating their arepas, very slow service with no reason since they were not busy, they told me they had an inspection going but never saw any health inspectors coming in and if that was true they should have saying something in the beginning so we were aware, that's how you run restaurant businesses.
4 1/2 stars.
The food was fantastic. Everyone was happy with their meal. The yuca appetizer with the sauce was amazing. I would order that again. The empanadas were good. Service was okay. I would have liked for them to have checked on us. We would come here again.
Q’Kenan No More For Us!
Used to be a favorite, but our recent visit left much to be desired. We drove 40 minutes for lunch, and it turned out to be a mistake. The service was lackluster, and our waitress seemed disinterested from the start. The food was barely warm, and our appetizer was forgotten until we reminded her. No refills offered, and we felt ignored until it was time for the tip. Sadly, we won't be returning, as this once-beloved place has lost its charm.

I have some reservations coming up tomorrow that have gotten lots of views but haven’t sold yet. I haven’t made a sale yet since I just joined this week. I keep lowering the price, but am worried they won’t sell. How long did it take you to sell your first reservations? And did you have success being reimbursed by AT for no-show or cancellation fees? Just looking for a little reassurance. Thanks!

You should probably cancel prior to the cancellation date per the cancellation policy. I would imagine you would only get reimbursed for a sold listing if you happen to be charged?

My first sale took about a week. But as the other commenter said stay ontop of your cancellation windows. There’s no reimbursement for those so make sure you cancel in time then just try again.
