The show is outside of the plates
The chef is proposing a unique experience at the Europea. It is a « show » during which each plate is staged in an original manner and you will eventually even move in the restaurant, visiting the cuisine and … surprise. The show itself, the restaurant and the service is lovely, beautiful. But unfortunately the disappointment lies inside the plates. We did not enjoyed most of them, lacking taste to our opinion and being too simple : for instance the desserts (mainly an ice cream, a crep and few classic mini cakes you can find in a bakery).
If you can afford the try (it is very expensive), you can take your chance, but be ready that eventually you will be disappointed.
Theatre of food
This rates of one of my top food experiences. Each dish is good, not superlative but as a dining experience this is amazing. There are several top restaurants in Montréal but I chose this because the surf and turf menu appealed with a simple menu on paper eg chargrilled lobster. That is to completely miss what you will experience. We went for the 8 course tasting menu, of which three are desserts and two main elements. But around that the dinner begins with a succession of rapid tastes to signify east to west Canada so include beetroot cured “egg” scallop and hand tied mussels. A starter of hot lobster bisque cappuccino complete with croissant confuses and delights. I won’t spoil the surprises but safe to say the end of the meal is theatre. Go for that special dinner.

Though I went there long time ago I always wanted to go to write a review. As long as I saw it's number one restaurant in Canada and number 2 in the word as per TripAdvisor 2015 I decided it's a must. It is not a place where you order steak or chicken with fries. It's 2.5 hours culinary jorney and you have more fun than you expected. Tasting menu is incredible.

This was booked by a friend before the price increase of Dec. 1 so she was quite surprised to see the Bistro table was $120. per person, I was in shock. It apparently was about half the price this summer. You would think that for $120, tea or coffee is included. No. I paid $10.50 for one tea bag in a small tea pot. I think my friends even paid for their hot water.
I admit I did not know what to expect as I am not from Montreal and was never able to open their menu on the web to even see the prices. I found it extremely expensive as the portions are all small, 'nouvelle cuisine' for sure and I would be surprised if the food itself was worth $25.
It's definitely not the type of restaurant to go to if you are catching up with friends and are not there specifically for a 'unique' dining experience. We were not overly impressed by the food, different presentations and did not comment on it to the waiters as patrons probably usually do. Thankfully, we did not have the blue cheese in the shoe that some reviews mentioned.
As one reviewer wrote, the timing between the courses is short and we were constantly interrupted by the waiters coming and going and explaining the food and sometimes how to eat it as it was not always obvious. It got to be annoying. The staff was very nice and polite but it was not the right restaurant for our group that night. For me, it's a once in a lifetime experience and I can now check that off my bucket list as money not well spent in a very expensive restaurant.
Fun and Exciting Meal Experience
Such a fun dining experience! One of the most fun dining experiences we’ve ever had. It will be hard not to compare this with other Michelin restaurants because it should be. For the value, this is AMAZING! I would imagine each season,
there is a different experience. Since we’re in winter, the experience was like “At the cabin in the mountains”. You could smell the firewood smoke everywhere, which gives you that nice camp fire feel. The restaurant itself is very beautiful, high ceilings, sophisticated decor but imagine - At the Cabin.
We chose the 8 course…not sure how anyone can do the 10 course. The serving of most courses was very generous. The main course is a full size course, which alone can be a meal itself!
Amuse Bouche - Holy Cow!!! Talk about an introduction to the meal! “So glad you are here. Take off your coat, have a seat, get ready for an adventure.” describes the amuse bouche. This all happens before you even get your menu. You sit and you start eating immediately!!! This course had about 10 different mini courses. (Smoked salmon, mussels, 2 types of croquettes, Parmesan crisps, beef jerky, casava chips, truffle popcorn, scallops.) The amuse bouche was a tasting within a bigger tasting. So wild! It all started coming out super fast like rapid fire. As soon as someone dropped off one, another one came out. We both laughed during and after this course, a great way to making us feel welcomed and to let us know we’re going to have a lot of fun. I think about other tasting experiences where I feel a bit stiff and that was the total opposite at Jerome’s. I was laughing and wondering what’s next. Rest assure though, the rest of your meal is super relaxed and very well timed.
Food overall was very good. Some of my favorites were the lobster cappuccino, duck dumplings, puff pastry, oil for breads, lobster claw soup, scallop, and the oyster.
Oh the 8 courses, dessert does account for 3 of them. The first was savory into sweet. You get a little meat pie before you get your mini surprise dessert and ice cream. A very cute way to allow you to walk through the kitchen. When you return, Santa dropped off some gifts. A box of beautiful chocolates and a stocking with a couple of fun take homes.
Next dessert course, a variety of baklavas, macarons, marshmallow, chocolate lollipops and cotton candy!
Last dessert course, a crepe of course, if you still have any room left!
The staff all did a great job being the best hosts and hostesses at this “cabin”. It’s not an easy job if anyone has ever hosted parties so to the staff…KUDOS! You worked very hard and it definitely shows!
Save your $700
Bizarre, chaotic, disorganized. These were all words we used to describe our experience last night. We had been to the original location 4 years ago where the service was impeccable, the communication was excellent and we felt like it was truly a culinary experience.
There were so many servers at our table last night, we had to tell them three times that we had the vegetarian meal instead of the standard meal. The first two appetizers were brought to our table before drinks, plates or napkins. We ordered the wine tasting menu where we expected that there would be a pairing with our meals and an explanation of the wines and why they were chosen. Instead, we all got the same glass of wine for the first glass (which came with our main course). The following two glasses were delivered at the same time (two glasses of white wine, left to sit at the table for the next hour + to get nice and warm) with only one dish left. I was drinking wine with cookies and cotton candy. The “sommelier” (I can’t imagine she would be one) clumsily poured all of our wines at the same time and then proceeded to tell us how the perfect starting wine for one person would be the perfect wine to end on for the other person (they were having the same meal). It was clear that she had no clue what she was doing and was just winging the whole thing.
One of the courses was delivered in a leather shoe. Later in the meal, they traipsed us through the restaurant to the “sugar shack” where they served us a warm piece of potato - not sure why they called it a sugar shack. Then they took us to the take out side of the kitchen and showed us where we could buy 50% off meals (this meal was $600-what is happening!!??) at the same time prompting us to use a coin we got during the meal to select a “prize” from a vending machine.
The quantity of dessert was excessive and had pop rockets in several of the options (this candies that children eat that pop in your mouth). Hilarious and so eclectic - really not a fit for a restaurant like this. Even with all of the desserts, we were not offered coffee, tea or any other beverages. After all, we still had a glass of wine to drink that had just been delivered for our tasting menu.
The whole thing was a real miss, unfortunately. It’s too bad, it was a beautiful experience at the previous restaurant. We had many laughs last night at the gong show of the whole thing. But for the price of the meal $700/couple, I most definitely will never return.
Save your money-this is not a fine dining experience.
The 8 courses meal was a disaster
When my friend booked for a simple but classy dinner, he didn’t do his homework well so we were surprised when we arrived and sat on our table that it will be an 8 course meal. “Doesn’t matter, it’s our fault and let’s try this experience” we said. But the result was simply a disaster!;
The couses were actually 11 not 8! The explanation and the timing between course an other are too short and fast. Staff were asked to be too nice but actually they only acted to be so. The reaction of the waitress was an unpleasant surprise when we said we'll not have wine but stick to the cocktail they served us. Presentation was too lavish. Believe it or not one of the couses (blue cheese picks was presented in a real leather shoe!! And we are supposed to like it and compliment the brillent ideas in presentation. The matching of the couses were too wrong which led my friend end same with me to having one of the worst sleeps at night of his / my life!!.
Bill was too high $220 per person.Advice: don’t try it. You’ll regret.
