Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud Dublin 2 Reviews from The Last Year
Worth its weight in gold!!
Worth its weight in gold!! We took our mother out for her 70th birthday and it was an experience we won't forget in a hurry. The food was sublime and the service was superb. We were well fed and not a morsel was left on any plate, the staff, atmosphere and the entire evening was absolutely brilliant!!
An exquisite evening in a very special place!
An absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. From the excellent bar staff at the start and their good fun, to the fantastic staff in the dining room. Everyone was so friendly, helpful, professional and nice. We had an amazing view of the full restaurant and it was like being on a movie set. The food was exquisite. So tasty and innovative. There were too many names to mention. Everyone we met was absolutely top class and we can’t wait to visit again.
Really good but really expensive (especially the wine)
I had been here for lunch before a few years ago but never dinner. Was the absolute bomb. We had lobster ravioli and truffle ravioli type things for starters which were really good. And had the lamb and the sole for mains, which were really excellent. You get little snacks and amouse bouches or whatever in between courses. Also had a delicious dessert and cheeseboard. It's ridiculously expensive and the cheapest wine is like 80 euros so be prepared for your wallet to take a hammering.
Fantastic
A spectacular jewel of a restaurant Amazing food and it’s my favourite place in Dublin to go for lunch or dinner Book you won’t be disappointed
Unable to get dinner reservations so we opted for lunch
We opted for lunch at RPG because dinner was not available and quite glad we had this adjustment. As with most tasting menu experiences the lunch was a 3 hour experience. Had we had dinner it would have been way too late. My suggestion opt for the lunch. We were first seated in a cozy bar area where we were served a cocktail by an attentive staff and were provided the menu to select from in this room (before seated in the dining room). The menu is a tasting and you can choose between a 3 and 5 course meal. We opted for 3 and that was quite enough. Everyone in the seating is asked to opt for the same number of servings. From the leisurely cocktail we were escorted into the dining room which was quite difference with high ceilings and bowed ceiling. The tables were appropriately spaced . The service was formal yet friendly. The servings were ample and tasty, as a matter a fact when served with pastries at the end of the meal we asked to take them away. Everything was well prepared and tasty. I will return to the restaurant when returning to the Merrion.
There is a reason this place has been the best restaurant in Ireland for the last 40 years!
Went for lunch here on 12 December with my wife and two friends, another couple. Stephane welcomed us at the door and offered us an aperitif. We had a lovely table surrounded by some beautiful Sean Scully paintings. The food was just beautiful - my game tart with jus and fillet steak were cooked to perfection. This was at the height of the Christmas period and genuinely - everything and service was to perfection. No detail missed. Mr. Patrick Guilbaud came to our table to check up on us and thank us for dining at the restaurant. We finished off in the cocktail lounge/cigar area with a gorgeous cigar and cocktails. This experience was just delightful and must be commended. Top class. Needs to be an annual calendar treat at Christmas. Looking forward to going back.
Amazing service, food and atmosphere
We opted for the tasting menu with wine pairing - it was delicious. such a treat. The staff are all so friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. Lovely to have Patrick Guilbaud greet all his customers and check in on how everything was. Well done to all, especially the amazing chefs. We can’t wait to go again!
The Complete Restaurant Experience
I read the last few reviews with a sinking heart just prior to going to the restaurant, but I needn't have worried. The place was professional to a degree that most restaurants can only dream of and the menu balanced in terms of range and portion size. The lobster starter, turbot and lamb mains, milk and honey and souffle desserts were exceptional. The meal started with a a canape so light it seemed to melt into nothing in the mouth and there were little flashes of equivalent culinary brilliance throughout the meal. Our wine choices were delivered with explanatory comments by our sommelier and even though by no means the dearest on the list, were still of excellent quality. The quality of this restaurant is not so much in fireworks or flamboyance, but rather in absolute mastery of the orchestration of a meal from start to finish. Add this to the quality of the meal you eat, not in individual course consideration, but in cumulative total, and what you have is a restaurant experience as near perfect as you are ever likely to encounter. This is dining as it is meant to be and I absolutely get why Restaurant Patrick Gibaud holds the acolades it does.
Underwhelming
Restaurant Patrick Guilbaud charges 2 Michelin star prices but does not deliver food or service to match these astronomical prices. Like €150 for a subpar 3 course meal. There was nothing special about any of those courses (scallops starter, duck main course served with watery mash potatoes and sponge drenched in rum for dessert) that I haven’t eaten in a decent restaurant, let alone in a 2 star one. Nothing imaginative or creative going on with any of the dishes myself or my husband had. The wine list is also ridiculously priced, the cheapest bottles being around €100/€120. Service was underwhelming, we’ve been to many Michelin starred restaurants but have never been treated with a mild but noticeable air of condescension like in RPG. The Dublin restaurant scene needs a big kick up the backside if this is one of their best and can get away with charging astronomical prices for subpar quality. To be fair half the tables were empty on a Saturday night so maybe they don’t…
Not up to the Two-Star Service Standard
Coming from Chicago, a city with superb restaurants, including Michelin-star restaurants, we were looking forward to a similar experience in Dublin. We tried two Dublin restaurants with Michelin stars. The other met, if not exceeded expectations. In contrast, this one fell short - far short on service. Though there were several empty tables nearby, the timing of the courses was off. For the dessert course, one in our party was not served her course until the others had already finished theirs, so she turned down the course. She was asked why and when she explained that her colleagues had finished, there was no apology. For the digestif, another in our party was not served hers. The rest of us waited and when it was clear that it was not forthcoming we tracked down another waiter to assist. Again it was brought out with no apology. The food was certainly memorable but the experience was offset by the failures in service.
This was an unforgettable dining experience to be sure and
This was an unforgettable dining experience to be sure and completely worth the splurge to not only get to experience 2-star Michelin food but also that level of service. The restaurant has romantic low lighting with generous spacing between tables for intimate conversation. The simplistic art and wall designs had an elegant upscale contemporary feel. My friend and I ditched our husbands for the night to treat ourselves to this luxurious experience. The kitchen had no issue substituting ingredients for my gluten allergy and made it absolutely zero effort on my part. I had alerted them when making the reservation, and in every course that came out, they addressed the safety in regards to my allergy. The food was superb. Artfully plated and presented and intricate in every detail. The 8 course tasting menu had many bonus courses as is customary with many prix fixe menus. Portion sizes were perfect, and there were so many of them we actually had to box up dessert we were so full. My favorite course was the venison, which was executed perfectly. Upon equal par to the gastronomic experience was the service. My friend and I have never felt so well attended to in our lives. You stand to go to the restroom, and someone is at your side to guide you. Need to take off your cardigan? Someone has magically appeared behind you to assist. I never had to touch my napkin..it was placed and replaced (if I got up) in my lap like some form of sorcery. The gentlemen serving us were beyond polite, professional, and masterful at their craft. If I find myself in Dublin in the future, I have no doubt that returning will be at the top of my priority list.
One of the best dining and food experiences ever.
We have been to some great places during our travels but this night was almost perfect. Seriously!!! Maybe the wonderful company of great friends made it over the top but the food and service was also truly amazing. They really know what they are doing for food, experiences, and service! No wonder they have existed for over 40 years. We enjoyed some cocktails then a tasting menu with a matching wine tasting. We ended the night on a fabulous patio with more wine. We had the food tasting along with wine paring and we all were full but didn't want the night to end. I'm still thinking thinking about the food..,I will be back soon.
This is no doubt the best restaurant in Dublin.
Located right next to Merrion hotel and Michelin two star rating. I had scallops for appetizers and blue lobster as a main. One of the best lobster dish I ever had. Not too chewy and perfectly seasoned. Sauce was not overwhelming and complemented lobster. My BF had veal dish he loved. He had chocolate tart and he almost leaked the plate at the end. My orange soufflé was reflecting and airy. Patric himself made a round and greeted all the guest was very nice gesture. Highly recommend for special night.
